It’s a nice place to sit outside and enjoy the late afternoon, with a great atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout our visit. The food was exceptional, offering a lovely taste of Dutch culinary tradition. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to relax and experience traditional Dutch food in Amsterdam!

Wide selection, good quality, and perfect service!

Lovely place with Dutch specialities. I had a Dutch Pea Soup, a lovely Apple Pie from a local bakery and a rare genever. Both were very good. The staff is amazing there, kind and helpful!!! Lovely atmosphere and this pub/ restaurant is really popular. I was lucky to able to sit down, but better to book a table in advance if you can!

The food was good, but the service was terrible. We were told we could eat at the bar, but they kept placing dirty glasses next to us. We tried to move away, but they kept putting them closer and closer, until finally the waiter, while collecting the dirty glasses, got confused and took my glass and poured out the remaining water before we had even finished eating. Some of the waiters were also quite rude.

Really a great place! A nice spot in Amsterdam; the place is cozy, Burgundian, and atmospheric. The food was tasty; the short ribs are highly recommended, as are the mussels. It was also nice that they had a gluten-free cake, which was good too. The service itself was fine, but we often had to wait a long time before being served. We were often forgotten, especially with the drinks. Additionally, it wasn't always clear what was or wasn't gluten-free. Some staff members knew this, while others didn't. This might not feel comfortable or safe for people with allergies. Again, a nice place, but the service could be a bit better. Oh, a tasty gin!

The platters portion for 1-2 person is too small for 17.5 euros, it includes 4 cubes of cheese, 4 piece of small cheese and meat balls and several slices of salamis. We left hungry((

A very charming, traditional restaurant with excellent local specialties! The food was consistently delicious. The authentic atmosphere was particularly lovely – it was refreshing to hear only Dutch spoken in an Amsterdam restaurant.

One thing we wanted to do in Amsterdam was enjoy a traditional Dutch dinner, and A. van Wees turned out to be the perfect place for it. All four of us ordered the traditional beef stew and fries: tender, slow-cooked beef in a rich gravy served with fries and pickled red cabbage. It was hearty, flavorful, and exactly the kind of Dutch comfort food we were hoping to experience. Sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable, and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, a traditional Dutch meal wouldn’t be complete without a few good local beers, and A. van Wees has plenty to choose from. The cold beers paired perfectly with the rich beef and gravy and added to the whole experience. What we really enjoyed was that A. van Wees felt authentic rather than touristy. The atmosphere (we sat outside) was warm and inviting, the service was friendly and attentive, and the combination of traditional food and local beer made for a fun and memorable evening. If you’re visiting Amsterdam and want to experience a great traditional Dutch meal in a classic local setting, we highly recommend A. van Wees. Great food, great beer, great service, and a wonderful taste of Amsterdam!

Always very cozy and delicious cheese fondue, but sitting upstairs is really too hot. But otherwise, a fantastic, cozy atmosphere with super friendly staff. We will definitely come back.

Nice little restaurant with professional service. Despite being busy, they regularly check if you would like another drink. The food is good, and much of it features products from the old distillery, such as liqueur. It is better to make a reservation or otherwise wait for a spot.

Wow, what an experience, I loved it! The place is beautiful, warm and authentic. The young guy who served me was so kind and skilled that made me feel like a special guest. It's a cozy spot, decorated with wooden barrels, where it's always fun to enjoy a beer or a small genever ;-) while strolling along the canals. The 20-year-old genever is fantastic and definitely worth trying.

Had a delicious cheese fondue with my colleagues, highly recommended. A gingerbread with a small glass of wine is also a winner! I will be back soon. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about all the drinks on the menu.

The staff is great, the atmosphere is fantastic, and it feels like a lovely traditional pub. You can also sit by the canal. The price is on the high side because the main course does not include any side dishes. Everything then has to be ordered separately. The food is of good quality. Tasty wines.

This place is really good. We ordered the "stew & fries" dish, the crispy chicken burger and the small dutch starter plate. We also ordered some local beer. Really delicious.

Disappointing experience: a fondue with a strong white wine flavor and three measly vegetables for €4. The typical starter was nice. Tourist trap? At least the beer was good... And the accordion player created a pleasant atmosphere.

Great little pub-style restaurant. Very authentic, the service was lovely and impeccable, and the meal was excellent from start to finish. We had the fondue, the beef stew with fries, and the apple pie. They gave us a very interesting explanation about the drink, which has been made here for over 600 years. A truly excellent experience! I definitely recommend it.

Lovely local experience with great food and really enjoyable local beers. The staff a are very nice and you know when you are in an unpretentious, non-tourist-trap when tap water is an option. Sadly this was our last holiday stop before the ferry home. We would love to have stayed longer, tried more beer and eaten more food. My daughters say that it felt like a traditional local pub, homely, and had great steak. A perfect recommendation from 'We Bike Amsterdam' guide - my husband had asked somewhere to try local beer, but they clearly have a good chef too.

Lovely interior setting and authentic cuisine. We had the surprising Dutch cheese fondue with four local cheeses. A truly pleasant surprise. We also ordered the small raw vegetables to dip in the fondue as an extra. A very good find. Reasonable price.

Iconic place to hang out, drink a kopstoot and eat a borrelplank

Mussels are certainly not a specialty. Sandy, small, and many closed ones. Many were still stuck, and they were too hot and cooked quickly. Three pathetic pieces of baguette. Sauce from jars, two teaspoons of cocktail sauce. Definitely not a second time. This was not good.

Exceptional, some of the tastiest food had during our stay. It was a short and memorable pit stop at this gem. Fries were soft and crunchy, sauce was surprisingly good, who would have thought a peanut sauce, mayo and fresh onions blend well together.

What a find! We were having trouble finding a cool place to eat typical Dutch food at night without spending a fortune. Then we stumbled upon this place, a bar with a great atmosphere and really friendly, energetic service. It was packed, so be patient or make a reservation… We ordered a large platter of assorted local snacks, fries, a couple of beers (Heineken, of course!), and soft drinks. They even brought us complimentary water. And for dessert, we had apple tart with cream. Everything was excellent! And it's open late. We'll definitely be back.

Very nice, characteristic place with excellent food. We had Dutch snack plates for two, stew and fruit, and Chicjen satay, all excellent, accompanied by beer.

This was our favorite meal in Amsterdam. The warm goat cheese on salad was a surprise! The Texels Skuumkoppe beer was great as well.

Unfortunately, this was one of the worst service experiences we’ve had in Amsterdam. We sat at the table for around 15 minutes and nobody came to us. One female staff member was very nice and told us that her colleague would come over, but that never happened. We tried several times to get the waiter’s attention and were simply ignored. After about 15 minutes we finally managed to get a menu, but after that nobody came back to take our order. Eventually we just got up and left. I understand that restaurants can be busy, but this one wasn’t. Very disappointing experience. 1 star

The food was really blend, the stew was tasteless, no spicies, notbeven salted. The burger wasnt great, too much ketchup you cant even taste the meat. The food came cold. Totally overpriced would not recommend.

Delicious cheese fondue, steak, and satay. Tasty bitterballen and gin beforehand. Ginger liqueur after the meal. We enjoyed the atmosphere, fantastic service, and all the delicious food. It was busy (many tourists), so hats off to the wait staff and the kitchen team (we heard there were only two of them). Impressed by this service and quality! Cheese fondue even better than at our favorite Cafe Bern!

I have to give this restaurant two stars. To begin with, the food was frankly excellent, however, in terms of portion size, I recommend not ordering the lasagna; I was left a little hungry. A minor problem arose: we waited about an hour and a half before being served because our order was forgotten. No compensation was offered, and for French customers, bread is extra...

Unique authentic location, good food and affordable

The food was delicious, but in my opinion, the fondue had too strong an alcoholic flavor. Also, the waiter forgot one of the dishes we ordered.

Such a cool place. Our table was in the little covered courtyard at the front, which was perfect on a rainy night. We visited on a weekday and it was packed, so Definitely need to book ahead. We won't to experience the ginever (which didn't disappoint) and weren't really expecting too much from the food but were blown away. The beef stew was probably my favourite meal during our Amsterdam trip. Highly recommend!

Family dinner in August; a very quaint place; quite small inside, crowded until 10 pm; reservations are recommended and easy to do on the website; the wait is a bit long; the stew is good even when served with fries as a base (which therefore loses their crispiness); expect around €30 for dinner. Highly recommended!

Lovely place to sit outside for the views or inside in a beautiful historical pub. We got the famous bitterballens! Perfection. A sample of 4 Genevers, very strong little shots of their local juniper-flavoured traditional liquor. A must in Holland! Also had some local beers. The place is just beautiful! Quite busy but we still managed to walk in and get a table outdoors. They also have a cat there! haha so cute. The waiter explained loads of facts about the Genever that we had, so that was quite interesting as I love learning about the history and culture of every place I go. Also, the strongest Genever that they have in that sample is made in house, which is so cool. 10/10 and they take cash and card!

So, so...short menu for small meal. We've quite problem to choose something to eat, especially for vege... salad is aways a good alternative...

The service was polite and quick, and very helpful during the gin tasting. However, a few things were disappointing: for 10 euros you can order steak with the fondue. These were 4 mini slices of meat, truly pathetic. We wanted a kids' menu for our 4-year-old son, but they didn't have one. We asked if they could give us a croquette with some fries, but they only serve croquettes for lunch. We were told we had to order bitterballen instead, which were very bland. Our eldest son's hamburger was quite overcooked.

Fondue - just stick to bread and steak which was delicious / I paid €5 for literally a super small bowl with a few strands of celery radish and carrots to dip in the fondue. (The people next to us had not realised and were not informed they had to order vegetables as extras with their steak. They left disappointed). Although we booked in advance We were on the mezzanine floor which was like being slow roasted. I am super allergic to cats and there was one roaming about the restaurant. I thought it was the heat bringing on my breathlessness and use of inhaler until the cat appeared in our eating area.

Such a cool restaurant and amazing food! We tried the Genever flight so we could discover the new and old tastes. The snack platter is the way to go for an appetizer. Our server was so sweet and explained each of the four types of Genever. It was a perfect way to end our time in Amsterdam. Highly recommend!

What a delightful afternoon we had here on the Herengracht. The atmosphere in this tasting room is incredibly authentic and cozy; truly a perfect place to unwind. We enjoyed the snacks on the plate, with the crispy bitterballen and cheese cubes being particularly to our liking. It is exactly what you look for in a classic Amsterdam establishment. The presentation is simple but very well-cared for. It is highly recommended for anyone who loves a good atmosphere and honest dishes. We will certainly be back soon for another round.

- A bit pricey, but some authentic and local dishes compared to other, overly exotic restaurants (I'm a tourist looking for local food to try). - The advantage is that you can come without a reservation, without getting the "no" look from other restaurants when you walk in without one. - I was also impressed by the speed of the food and drinks service; it was efficient. - One star less because the waitress forgot to put a flowerpot on my table, even though it was on all the other tables. I'M NOT HAPPY 🤣

Wow, this is truly a delicious restaurant! The ingredients are excellent, the decor is exquisite, and the service is incredibly warm and welcoming. I especially recommend the Glen salad, which is only 21 yuan per serving.
