It seemed like a tourist trap. The food was only possible and weight. Staff either did not care where it was too busy to do so. The place was crowded, cramped, and noisy. The cheese fondue was clumpy, but had a decent flavor.

The bar/restaurant is definitely my idea of a Dutch bar. It offered very Dutch food and it was a great experience for my friends who were visiting for one night only. We had a late dinner with three kids (total of 7 people) and the kids enjoyed it too. They reserved the perfect table for us…and even though they were packed, they didn’t give our table away when we were 10 minutes late running from a canal cruise. 10s across the board. Thanks for a great evening.

What a great find, the staff was awesome the food was great , mussels,stew, salad everything was fresh and tasty. And Amy our server was awesome.

The food and drinks were delicious (stew, Hemel op aarde liqueur, advocaat cheesecake). The service was enthusiastic, the decor beautiful, and the prices were reasonable. It's great that they focus on (among other things) typical Dutch dishes, but they also have a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Great experience! The atmosphere and decor felt authentic and homely. We tried the jenever tastings and they were all unique and enjoyable. It was quite busy and noisy, but if that does not bother you I can thoroughly recommend!

What a gem! As an Amsterdammer, why I've only just discovered this is a mystery to me. Everything here is perfect. And the cheese fondue... wow. And the liqueur tasting... it really tops it off. See you soon!

Lovely location with some outside seating facing the canal and some cosy seating inside. Food was comforting especially for a windy and cold day. Restaurant gets busy around 12.30pm, but if you go in at 12 on the dot it will be easy to get a seat without a reservation.

First time there as a tourist.. bar staff was friendly...greeted properly when we enter the restaurant...service was good...food was also good...would definitely recommend..

Food was good. Service was slow. We sat outside and didn't go in. Outside area was wet from it raining all day. It wasn't a bad experience but nothing over the top. A sweet thing was an orange cat joined us:)

Paired the Bitterballen starter with a Kopstootje and finished with the four cheese fondue and vegetables, very delicious. We liked it so much, returned the next night for dinner.

An ideal location slightly away from the busy centre. Thr staff that we spoke to could all speak perfect English and were very polite. The restaurant itself had a great atmosphere and feel to it, best described (IMO) as small and cosy. The cheese fondue and cheesecake were good and worth a try. Booking is advised.

Along with few friends, we randomly stopped by and had an amazing experience! The food was bursting with flavor and the service team was exceptional. We enjoyed the mussels, short ribs, pea soup and A Van Wees’ own cocktails. A must stop when you’re in Amsterdam!

We wanted to try the local pea soup and found this place. It was perfect for a rainy afternoon. And the bonus was there is a sweet orange cat named mango who manages the place!

We were there with a group of 15 people and had made a reservation in advance and pre-selected a set menu. - Our table wasn't available at the agreed time. - Then there weren't enough seats for everyone. - Nobody knew about us or what we had previously ordered. - After we ordered a set menu, no food arrived for two hours. Only the appetizer arrived, and then nothing else. After asking, we were told there was a technical problem with our order. Apparently, it wasn't prepared until after we had asked. It then took another 15 minutes for the food to arrive. Unfortunately, one dish was missing, which took another 30 minutes. The food was OK, but the portions were very, very small. The service was terrible. I wouldn't go back.

We had the jenever and likeur tasting. We also had a variety of snacks. The guide explained all the drinks in great detail and was very insightful. The cat at the bar was an additional bonus!

Very busy, and it certainly took a while to get our reserved seats. After that, things moved quite quickly; we ordered dinner and drinks. But after that, things went completely wrong. Every additional order either didn't arrive or arrived far too late. It's normal here to be busy, so don't forget your customers. We were upstairs, no, not the service you expect. My food was certainly good; I love cheese fondue. My companions had mussels, which were very tasty, though the mussels were too small. All in all, this restaurant has an opportunity to improve its upstairs dining area. The staff is positive and friendly. Stick with 2 stars; there's definitely a challenge ahead.

Cozy, you feel like you're in history. Delicious food, not too expensive for the city center. The acoustics are poor, so it's noisy.

We were recommended the restaurant/bar by our bike ride tour guide. We were so impressed. Friendly staff and lots of staff too, no waiting for too long. We had a drink then opted to eat inside due to smokers dining outside. We were accommodated without fuss. Food was delicious! The staff made our time there enjoyable, friendly team that work well together. All reasonably priced. If I was in Amsterdam again I’d definitely go back. It was beautifully decorated and seemed to be a historic building which created a great atmosphere.

A place with truly excellent food. We wanted to have dinner with Dutch food: we had the Dutch cheese fondue with steak, the chocolate cake, and we also tried a liqueur from their distillery: oud jenever. We really loved everything we ordered. The place is very quaint and the service excellent. Highly recommended.

Classic "sfeervolle" Amsterdam proeflokaal with hearty food and a wild list of jenevers. Solid rotating beer selection as well.

I'm only giving it two stars because the food was good, but otherwise the service and treatment were terrible. First, I arrived for dinner at 6 (the typical time), but it was full. Coincidentally, the two couples in front of me had walked in without a reservation, but not me. I was standing there waiting to be served, and after 10 minutes, after getting their attention, they told me they were full, but I wasn't in a hurry, so I asked if I could wait. They didn't know what to say and told me to sit at the bar, which would be fine if I wanted to make a sandwich. Not even that, because (I've attached photos) is it really nice to eat with the dishwasher rack in front of you? An elderly couple had also been sent there, and as you can see in the photos, they were reading the menu with their cell phone flashlights because the bar is unlit. After waiting another 15 minutes, supposedly memorizing the menu, I asked another colleague if I could sit outside, and coincidentally, other diners were just paying, so I was able to change seats. I was about to get up and leave because I found the waiting times and the way they tried to put you somewhere else disrespectful. It also took a while to pay, but I think it's more because they don't like tourists. I don't recommend it.

Loved this place! The beer and food are great, just really good quality. The service was awesome; they found us a table even though we showed up early. Drink menu offers something for all tastes. It can get a bit loud, but that just adds to the vibrant vibe. Overall, a great experience!

Had a great dinner with friends who were visiting the Netherlands for the first time. They loved it. Very nice unique place, variety of food including some tradition Dutch dishes and the staff is very friendly !

I had the best food and drink here in all of Amsterdam. The service was incredible our waitress was very helpful and passionate about the speciality drinks on offer and she made the experience all the better. I definitely recommend trying the Parrot Soup from the Old Dutch Liquers menu and the Genever tasting board. They even went the extra 300 miles and organised to send me a sentimental item I had left on our table. Everyone should go here.

Ate at Van Wees with two English friends. We started with young jenever and bitterballen, followed by beef stew and fries. All of this in a pleasant atmosphere and with excellent service.

Lovely spot, really friendly staff. Food was fantastic! Veggie burger was excellent, and my husband said the beef stew was the best meal he had on our trip.

The atmosphere was fantastic, and we had delicious mussels! Despite the traffic jam, we still made it to the concert hall on time thanks to the excellent service from the kitchen and staff. We'll definitely be back, but with much more time to experience it even better.

Dutch food with aplomb... stratospheric mussels thanks to the sauce... impeccable stew and fondue as if you were in Switzerland... a nice surprise and a great experience.

An absolutely excellent restaurant for those who want to try Dutch cuisine. The menu offers a variety of traditional dishes. Everything is excellent, from the food to the service, to the ambiance! Highly recommended. You must try their fruit liqueur!

The food was super tasty and the staff helped explain a lot of things. Definitely do a genever tasting and try some of their homemade liqueurs with dessert.

Very friendly service. I had the muscles in a delicious broth, they even gave me their homemade cocktail sauce for dipping when I asked. (not a cocktail sauce fan but this one had me licking my fingers!) Deducted one star for the food since the patat stoofvlees portion was very small for a main course. I ended up sharing my fries with my companion because he was still hungry.

We were hungry. Full of people, we sat at the bar, we were promised to go outside when it was free. When the promise was fulfilled, we had unfortunately finished eating. The food, the meat stew was awesome. The beer, a local beer, was perfect. Got a wonderful liqueur afterwards. The wife got a liqueur like limoncello. The staff were nice and offered a laugh. This place is recommended

Arrives quickly at the table (reserved in advance, recommended). Takes some time before you get the chance to order, but is completely local and in that sense understandable. Good food and cozy atmosphere.

It's the worst. The food didn't come out until the table next to me, who arrived late, had finished its food. I asked the waiter two or three times, but it still didn't come for 50 minutes.

My son and I arrived for a reserved jenever tasting. We had to sit down somewhere, and after 10 minutes, someone came and asked what we wanted to drink. 🤔 We had to choose a tasting from a menu, which wasn't entirely clear. After choosing, a waiter came and quickly explained the different jenever options, and that was it. We didn't get any snacks, which I had understood from the website. We thought it was a bit of a shame, because Van Wees has a good reputation for jenevers. My son and I once had a tasting at Cafe de Zilt, and it was much more enjoyable, with good explanations. So, no more Van Wees for us.

A great place for good food and drinks. The menu is varied and offers traditional dishes, revisited but never overdone. Everything is delicious, with truly excellent meats and, of course, cheeses and a fondue that's not to be missed. You can drink anything, but the beer and gin are top-quality; you can also order tastings. The place feels a bit dark inside, but you'll find it has just the right lighting for the perfect atmosphere. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
