It was Boxing Day, busy and an earth leakage fault, but very nice service. Cheese fondue 25 pp, we were very disappointed in terms of taste. The Dutch version is not for us. Also very mealy/snotty; seemed to contain too much binder and soggy baguette. Very small bowl of salad for 5.50. So price quality... hmmm

The reservation was adjusted without any problems and during our visit it was also noticeable that people work here who are still looking forward to it, very nice. This was a highlight of our trip the food was amazing the staff were very knowledgeable and great all food was from the local area a real taste of Holland. We had the fondue for 4 and some sides and it was all brilliant. Got speaking to our waiter about the local Genever and tried some of their recommendations again spot on. Next time we’re in Amsterdam we will definitely be making a point of coming back here.

Great restaurant. Really recommended. Service top. Food top. Ambiance is nice. Even at the small tables there is plenty of space for eating. Reservations are quick and you're sure to get a spot. If you are in Amsterdam you should stop by.

The Belgian waitress in particular was great

My husband and I went here last minute very late because I was looking for Dutch pea soup. After going late we went the very next night with our friends. It was our last night in Amsterdam and we canceled dinner elsewhere because my husband and I enjoyed it so much.

We went there to have dinner on christmas, the place was packed. The service was good, a bit confused but okey ( when we arrived there was lots of people but when we started eating there were only a few tables left. The food was very good and everything came very fast. I would go back for sure, it is a bit pricier but worth the money

Despite multiple people suggesting to avoid trying Dutch fare, the food was delicious and hearty, especially the fondue. Stew and fries was great as well, but heavily seasoned with pepper. Our waiter was awesome and he even gave us recommendations on other local places. You can’t go wrong with any of the drink options. Don’t skip dessert!

Very heartwarming place with a great atmosphere, good local food (the bitterballen were delicious) and very nice thoughtful waiters (special mention to this adorable waitress, with a great smile, who dedicated off-duty to have us try the local liqueurs :)) The liqueurs are indeed as good as they are the place's specialty, and I loved my Parfait Amour one ! I'll recommend the place to friends for a local experience

When I travel abroad, I usually prefer Irish pubs. The place we visited this time was a local establishment with an Irish pub vibe, and I really liked it. I especially loved their beers and had a club sandwich alongside. I highly recommend the place. If you enjoy choosing local pubs in the places you visit, this is a must-try. The reviews already speak for themselves. Thank you for the great hospitality. It will definitely be a regular stop for me on my future visits.

We had a reservation for a genever tasting. We were promptly seated. After a quick explanation of the different types of genevers, we selected our flight. The 4 genevers came with small bites as well. A fun experience. Highly recommend.

Definitely a place to check out for their jenever

The service is phenomenal, the vibes are high, and the food is delicious. The reason for 4 stars is because I ordered the mussels (which are a great value, not pictured for a reason…see below) you get about 100 mussels (not joking) for $20 or so. With this, I personally ate 84 mussels alone thinking nothing of it since it was served to me. I guess this is a Dutch standard meal. Unfortunately, about 10 hours later I was hit with a terrible case of food poisoning that lasted about 12 hours just nonstop. I do not blame the restaraunt at all as this can happen with any shellfish but I do warn guests to possibly eat only a few mussels or share the dish amongst others to decrease the chances. They were DELICIOUS but yeah 84 mussels for one person is an unhealthy amount 😅 love this place though, just can never eat mussels again.

I expected much more considering the reviews, but the burger was average, the appetizer average, the meat dish served on fries leaves you stunned. The mussel dish, not bad. Service could be improved, the environment is nice, that of a former distillery

Beautiful food, excellent vibe and friendly staff that were happy to explain the product and how to consume it. Recommended by our tour director happy to pass on the recommendation ourselves. Will be back on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Amazing little quirky place with amazing food and great drinks!

This local pub style restaurant was like having Amsterdam wrap us up in a big hug. The food was very comforting and tasty. The pea soup and beef stew were delicious and reminded us of home with a Dutch spin. Johan offered wonderful conversation displaying his love for his country. It was an excellent experience on a rainy cool night.

The fondue is excellent. The cheeseburger could have been better, but still liked it. The french fries are also excellent... worthy of fame!

Great service, setting and food!

Wonderful local restaurant. Lovely service and nice atmosphere. We were there for lunch and it was quiet on arrival. Got busier as lunch progressed. Food was delicious. We had the Mussels & the Beef Stew. Both were full of flavour and good serving size. Very happy to recommend.

Super busy and it looks very cute, the guests are still on the terrace at the end of November with a mild temperature 🌞 only I thought I ended up in the hard rock café because iron maiden and creedance Clearwater are coming out of the speakers loudly 😵‍💫 not really pleasant when you are eating cheese fondue 🙄 shame!

We called to see what time kitchen is open until. Girl said 12 midnight. We arrived at 10pm and they said kitchen is closing soon and and there's no seats available. We said we can wait and she said they only take reservations. So we booked through their website on the spot since there were still reservations available and the lady said we can't book on the spot. The worst part of our whole Amsterdam visit

The service was excellent and the staff were very hospitable. I enjoyed the Dutch ambiance and the decor very much. Unfortunately, the food quality was disappointing, and we experienced some discomfort afterward.

I was looking for a traditional Dutch place to seek refuge and respite on my way out of Amsterdam. A.v. Wees Proeflokaal was a perfect place for that. The food, service, welcome and ambiance of the place were top notch. I had coffee to warm up, upon arrival, followed by a pint stein of Heineken (of which I’m growing quite fond) and then a bowl of traditional Dutch stew with frites. What a deliciously heartwarming dish that was. So flavorsome I could have made a second order (and almost did!). The friendly staff were happy for me to take the photos I’ve added here. A great place and I highly recommend it.

This is a lively and great spot to have food and drinks. The service staff was some of the best we encountered in all of Europe. Super friendly and great advice on the food and drinks. Be sure to make a reservation before coming. We have seen lines spilling out to the street here. Mussels: 8.5/10 - Mildly spicy soup forms on the base Fries and Beef Stew: 8/10 Pea Soup: 8/10

Authentic place, hidden gem. The food and service were great. Highly recommend!

A beautiful and cozy location! Four of us were there on a Saturday and had reserved in advance. We decided on four cheese fondue options – two with steak and two with vegetables. We unanimously agreed that it was the best cheese fondue we have ever tasted. The service was first class and we felt completely comfortable. We can absolutely recommend this restaurant!

It's a great place to try local flavors and it's really delicious. Only the floors and the table were a little dirty and smelled of beer but it wasn't a big deal for us.

Really nice experience except our first waiter disappeared in first third of night. We enquired and another waitstaff took over and was even more pleasant! A nearby group discussing the US election results was too loud and was a bit annoying. Nothing the restaurant could do about this. We just wanted to escape the issue of Trump for the night.

Very nice place, fun and jovial atmosphere. I was there one evening for dinner with my father, we had a pea soup each and a fondue with only bread. Everything is very good, the portions are generous and Vai di Gever is a beauty! We had a lot of fun, I recommend it if you want to spend a nice evening in an original place!

One of my go-to spots when I have visitors. It combines staples of the Dutch cuisine, Jenever tasting and the typical gezelligheid one needs to experience once in Amsterdam. It's almost always easy to get a table without a reservation, staff is attentive and relaxed. They have a very cute cat too

Absolutely amazing experience. The staff was SPECTACULAR. We tasted so many jenevers and the staff knew so much information. They even brought me a free one to try because we were having so much fun the liquor chocolate is DELICIOUS - we tried like 6 flavors! The chicken satay and the beef stew fries were to die for. Shame on me for not stopping by on one my many bike rides as I was gliding by. Returning from Jumbo at 10pm and seeing many happy blokes enjoying the vibe and night. I chalk it up as a NIYBY vibe. I live one block away and thumbed my big noise at this establishment. Why ?? My little brain doesn’t know. Big thumbs up. Huuuuuge thumbs up! O can see this will be a love- lhate relationship. Love this place, hate that I will spend my retirement pension here. Great service!!! It’s my new happy place !! Great mussels. For two $23, mas quantities of beer and solid wine selection. Whether you are here to drink outside or dine inside I highly recommend with spades. I’m still here as I post, and that’s all for now!!

Nice atmosphere, it feels like being in a Belgian cafe. The service was friendly but the food was average overall: the stew with fries was the best dish, we had a steak tartare which was too dry and the meat quality wasn't great and finally the cheese fondue, which was also average.

Such a tourist trap. €27,5 for just 2 short ribs, incredibly over priced. That melanzane costs 7 euros at better places in Amsterdam, but no they have to charge 16 for that small plate. Taste okay, but terribly overpriced.

A.van Wees Tasting Locality is such a charming spot in Amsterdam! The place itself is beautiful, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious, and they have a great selection of local beers that pair perfectly with the dishes. One of the highlights is Mango, the friendly cat who greets all the customers at the entrance—such a cute and fun touch. Whether you’re stopping by for a drink or a full meal, it’s a really nice place to relax and enjoy great food and drinks. Highly recommend!

There are plenty of places in Amsterdam to go once to. Somehow we managed to go to AvW twice - For dinner and then lunch a few days later. Great service and hard to fault food. Don't forget to book otherwise you may be disappointed.

Arrived early for our reservation and sat at bar but were seated quickly. Tried the fondue, stew and burger. Great drinks too.
