Wow! A truly Dutch experience. It's a very traditional place, you can tell as soon as you walk in. We ate really well, the timing was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and their homemade spirits are a must-try. I highly recommend making a reservation. Perhaps the only thing that could be improved is the table layout: it would be helpful to ask in advance if you plan to eat so they can assign you a larger table. In our case, the dishes were quite large, and the space available was a bit cramped.

Pleasant atmosphere, very good food and beer, and excellent service. Good selection of beers, especially from the Netherlands.

An authentic Amsterdam experience. Busy. Buzzing.

I ordered my steak medium-well, but it arrived medium rare. When I asked for it to be corrected, they returned the same piece of meat to the grill. It came back unevenly cooked: one small portion was well done, while the rest was still medium rare. Additionally, we were served the wrong beer.

They were supposed to look for seats. We ended up finding one ourselves. The waiter never returned. Service took a very long time, and the cheese fondue wasn't very tasty.

Super fun visit. Our Genever guide Gijs (sp?) was excellent in explaining all of them in details. Genever will never be my go-to spirit, but a tasting while in Amsterdam is well worth it. There were a couple of pretty tasty ones in the lot. We got some snacks and they were very tasty, some of the best fries around, crunchy and flavorful. And the bitterballen were top notch. The atmosphere in the place is great, too, mix of tourists and locals. Make a reservation or go super early, by 4.30 the place was packed.

Cozy cafe/restaurant with excellent cafe food. Tasty beers, wine, and friendly service! We arrived 1.5 hours early for dinner, were able to have drinks first, and then proceed straight to our table! 🙌👍

Really good spot to chill and have a good time. Food is great and the people are really nice. The only down side was that it took a little long for the waiter to ask us what we wanted but nothing too bad. Really good fondue and stew. I would highly recommend this place.

Lovely authentic feeling restaurant. Although winter, it was good to sit outside to see the world walking past both off and on the canal. Service was excellent. It’s definitely a good idea to book in advance!

Loved this very authentic Dutch eatery. They make their own Genever. The staff explained what it was and I had a tasting plank. We had Mussels and Stewed Beef on Fries. Quite delish!

I had a fantastic evening! There was some confusion about my reservation, but the manager was able to resolve it effectively, and we were completely pampered afterward. The entire service was very friendly, the setting was very pleasant, and the food was excellent. I'll definitely be back!

Van Wees is a beautiful location, with an interior that evokes a bygone era. The menu is extensive and lovingly prepared. The service is also excellent.

What a surprise, typical Dutch food!! It's a tavern where they know exactly what they're doing, great service, and even better food. I recommend the beef stew (very good), and it's not expensive for the Netherlands; it's more expensive in Germany, and we ordered three dishes... I highly recommend it!!

This is one of the oldest distillery of Amsterdam. They have their own types of Dutch Genever(Father of Gin), beers, and other alcohols. Very sweet staff who will tell you regarding the history, what to order and how to drink in the traditional Dutch way. Please try the Dutch bitterballen with your drinks.

We had an amazing evening! The steak tartaar, paté and cheese fondue were amazing. Absolutely outstanding service by Daphne made our night complete. House wine slightly chilled with the fondue was a great match. As a born and raised local my new favorite place!

Lovely restaurant. Warm welcome despite not having a reservation. Always packed with a great atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying good local gin and fondue. Expect to pay around €50 per person for appetizers, drinks, and a main course.

Unfortunately, the service was extremely poor. We mentioned that the portions were very small and received a very lukewarm response. We should have mentioned it sooner. We did, however, and the portions didn't improve. It's a shame that such establishments are primarily concerned with profit and no longer care about proper portion sizes.

Such lovely attentive staff despite a very busy night in December. Atmosphere was cosy and perfect. Satay chicken was delicious!

Mussels, fries and fondue— exactly what I wanted after running the Amsterdam Marathon. Food, service, beer and atmosphere were awesome.

I loved this place! They have several traditional dishes to try, and the food is delicious. The service was excellent; our waiter even spoke some Spanish. The place is small but cozy. We went on a weekday around lunchtime and were able to get in without a reservation.

Typical Dutch restaurant, very cute and quaint. I loved it! The tables were too close together, there was practically no space, and it was too loud! The staff were well-trained, the service was quick, and the food was excellent: I tried a typical Dutch meat stew with onions (hachee), which I found very good. The prices were excellent. Recommended! Reservations are required for the meal, which can be easily made on the website.

Got really lucky and got here right before 6pm on a Wednesday night and was seated along with my parents at a small table (totally enough space). Only had a day in Amsterdam on the way to Paris while on vacation from the US. Was very glad to be able to get to eat here with no reservation. Had the Venison Bitterballs and were amazing along with the various Dutch draft beer selections. The woman that seated and took care of us was great - she tried her best to accommodate us as walk-in guests. Overall will remember this experience fondly and will come back the next time I find myself in Amsterdam. Many thanks again!

The friendliness of the staff, the atmosphere, the interior decoration, and even the architecture of the restroom doors — everything was amazing. I had an americano and a latte here to relax during the daytime. I can honestly say, congratulations to your barista. It was the best latte I’ve ever had in my life. The temperature of the coffee and the coffee-milk aroma were perfect. Of course, I also learned that this place is animal-friendly thanks to this chubby cat. I wish I had discovered this place at the beginning of my trip, not the end. Thank you! I hope on my next trip to Amsterdam, I can come in the evening and experience it again.

Absolutely fantastic! They found us a table without a reservation! The place and atmosphere are so cozy. It's not easy to find good places, but this one is truly superb, and the food is local! I highly recommend it.

Four of us ate dinner here, it was very busy which provided a great atmosphere. Please book in advance if you want to guarantee a table. The food was lovely and staff were very attentive. There's some traditional / local dishes as well as other meals for those who want to stick to something they're used to.

We had a wonderful meal. Great atmosphere, nice and cozy. We will definitely be back. Friendly service. It's a bit messy 😂 after the starter. Don't clear the plates, but put the fondue set down. I think that's part of the atmosphere. Another tip: clearly indicate that there's a time slot, so there's no need to awkwardly turn around to ask if you want something else. It's actually meant to ask if you want to pay. 😂 But it wasn't annoying. The cheese fondue was truly fantastic. The soup and the quality ratio are good. Thanks for the lovely evening. See you soon.

The fries were coarse. Only small pieces. The portion of stew was also on the small side.

Very friendly service. I had the mussles in a delicious broth, they even gave me their homemade cocktail sauce for dipping when I asked. (not a cocktail sauce fan but this one had me licking my fingers!) Deducted one star for the food since the patat stoofvlees portion was very small for a main course. I ended up sharing my fries with my companion because he was still hungry.

We came because we wanted to try typical Dutch food and avoid the trendy places where there are always queues. What a great choice! The place is absolutely charming, with a lovely little terrace at the entrance and a great atmosphere. Plus, we enjoyed a gentleman playing the accordion during our meal. The food was fantastic, the service perfect, and the price super reasonable. Highly recommended!

The atmosphere is really cool, quite old, but well preserved. I ordered a veggie burger which was delicious and a generous portion. They have several food and drink options. We arrived without a reservation and the waiter who greeted us, even though the place was packed, managed to find a table for us. They were very kind and friendly.

Stopped here for a bite to eat on way back to our hotel after visiting Rembrandt House. We had been in the area for a few days and noticed it was always busy, but we caught it just before the lunch crowd arrived. The food was excellent (had mackerel on sourdough with local beer). Service was prompt and friendly. Would definitely go back if we make another visit to Amsterdam.

I honestly love this place. Came back twice in 2 days. Service is a huge plus, all the guys were great and friendly, they made us feel very welcome. Drinks were perfect too. We will never forget the mussels, that was special!!

Best bitterballen in Amsterdam. We arrived on a Sunday at lunchtime where it was as busy as it gets however only a short wait for a table. Even with it being busy, service was great and food and drinks arrived very promptly. Good atmosphere and bitterballen was excellent. Good value.

Such a wonderful experience. We were keen to try the local cheese fondue and found this place. What a delicious choice! The fondue came with bread only, so we ordered the well done steak with four small pieces for €10 to go with it. The fries were really good too.
