- A bit pricey, but some authentic and local dishes compared to other, overly exotic restaurants (I'm a tourist looking for local food to try). - The advantage is that you can come without a reservation, without getting the "no" look from other restaurants when you walk in without one. - I was also impressed by the speed of the food and drinks service; it was efficient. - One star less because the waitress forgot to put a flowerpot on my table, even though it was on all the other tables. I'M NOT HAPPY 🤣

What a delightful afternoon we had here on the Herengracht. The atmosphere in this tasting room is incredibly authentic and cozy; truly a perfect place to unwind. We enjoyed the snacks on the plate, with the crispy bitterballen and cheese cubes being particularly to our liking. It is exactly what you look for in a classic Amsterdam establishment. The presentation is simple but very well-cared for. It is highly recommended for anyone who loves a good atmosphere and honest dishes. We will certainly be back soon for another round.

Wow, this is truly a delicious restaurant! The ingredients are excellent, the decor is exquisite, and the service is incredibly warm and welcoming. I especially recommend the Glen salad, which is only 21 yuan per serving.

By chance, just outside the center of Amsterdam, I stumbled upon this tasting room and they immediately invited me inside. Once inside, you find a tastefully decorated space with service that takes plenty of time for you, despite the crowds. A former distillery where I got to experience my first 'kopstoot'. Highly recommended, and I will definitely be back again.

Honestly probably ordered the wrong thing, wanted to try some authentic flavors but the snack plate was disappointing. It is in a neat area and the outdoor seating is superfluous in Amsterdam for good reason, the staff were perfectly nice as well. Just felt that it was a little lack luster in taste for the price.

Friendly people and they had time for a chat about the history of the building. Had a delicious meal and enjoyed sitting cozily in the gateway.

One portion of fondue is enough for two. But the fondue was not melted enough and was a bit much (on the taste and size)-would not recommend. The steak was 15/10, amazing! The atmosphere was amazing as well.

A very cosy place in the heart of Amsterdam. The service is excellent and the staff friendly and polite. We have tried the Swiss Fondue which was ok. I expected the taste to be a bit tastier but it was decent!

We had one night in Amsterdam and choosing A. van Wees for dinner was a perfect choice. Situated in a historic brown bar we were able to taste different genevers and local Dutch cuisine. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the Dutch snack plate, chicken satay, and ice-cream with drunk raisins.

Very cozy atmosphere. Relaxed and nice space. The mussels were superb. And with a nice glass of wine, it was top-notch.

We enjoyed the 4 course wine tasting menu. Elsa was our server and she was so helpful and professional and so sweet. The food was perfect and and outside patio very nice.

Had an amazing experience here sitting at the bar on June 24. All the staff were great, but the bartender was outstanding. The building is so cool and full of history. The food was so yummy. The beer selection is solid, while the liquors they made are unique and interesting. My only regret is getting the Heineken at first because they have much better options.

We were absolutely delighted with the restaurant. It's not a bad idea to reserve a table, but they seated us even though we didn't have a reservation. Very kind waitresses, fast and friendly. The food is excellent! We really enjoyed it. The location is also great, by the canal, it's quiet.

It's touristy but enjoyable nevertheless. Bitterballen is very good. Plenty of outdoor (and indoor) seating. Lots of gin options. Well situated in the Jordaan.

Bad espiriance with the beef stew

I had an excellent meal here. I sat inside which was a very nice, classic bar experience. I had the beer & genever tasting flight - the server was very kind, informative, and shared his pride of the genever. I ate the fried cheese which came with a delicious sweet/mild spice sauce (reminded me of a mild hot honey or Thai chili sauce). I also had the beef stew over fries. Everything was great!

Nice place, did a gin tasting. Ordered some snacks and drinks. It was very noisy inside, so we went to sit outside afterwards, it was great!

Simple, local, authentic. Grab a seat and people watch. Food was great too - loved the eggplant, bitterballs and wild boar sausage sandwich.

This place is a great find. The genever (gin with mulled wine) tasting flight was fantastic. Their tribble beer was the best I have tasted We ordered pea soup with boar sausage and carpachio with fig and walnuts and both were a big hit. I will definitely come back next time I am in Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful steak here while sun was out and a big thunderstorm broke out. The staff made sure everything was amazing and carried on with full service in the rain amazing

Great local gem! Had the homemade Dutch pea soup and it’s so flavorful and tasty! The small platter was great to try out the famous Dutch snacks and cheese. Finished it off with Dutch spirit Genever pure malt. They also offer great tasting flights here! Great service, great food, would totally recommend!

Food was amazing! We ordered the Stew & Fries and the snackboard which are all highly recommended! Price is okay. Took some time before we got served cause the restaurant was packed and busy but all the staff are nice and friendly. Better to make reservations as this is a very busy and packed.

The food was good, the mussels were excellent, but the staff should keep the tables clean. We waited a long time for the next course. The beer was very good, the waiters were very nice, and the dog received a royal welcome.

We went there as a large group with a reservation. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait too long. Everyone enjoyed their food and left satisfied. At the end, they served chocolates filled with alcohol (€1.50 each) with various fillings. They were really great too.

The food was good, but nothing exceptional. They have a good beer selection :) The place smelled strongly of sewage, but I guess they can do that a lot. The place was nice, but I didn't love it and wouldn't go back.

We had dinner last night. Food was Ok. Mussels were interesting, rib- eye was ok, but the waiter focused on all other tables but ours. Empty drinks, no water, I got up and paid at the bar. 0 service.

Great traditional restaurant, we came for the cheese fondue, it comes with bread (you can ask for free refill of the bread) or add vegetables and/or steak for extra charge. The cheese fondue was so good! It was my first time trying this dish and I was so happy with it. We originally came to just try the cheese fondue, but stayed because the menu had other great options! We tried the beef stew and fries, it comes with mayo and red cabbage on the side. What a delicious dish. It is important to make a reservation, all the tables were busy.

Wow! A truly Dutch experience. It's a very traditional place, you can tell as soon as you walk in. We ate really well, the timing was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and their homemade spirits are a must-try. I highly recommend making a reservation. Perhaps the only thing that could be improved is the table layout: it would be helpful to ask in advance if you plan to eat so they can assign you a larger table. In our case, the dishes were quite large, and the space available was a bit cramped.

An authentic Amsterdam experience. Busy. Buzzing.

I ordered my steak medium-well, but it arrived medium rare. When I asked for it to be corrected, they returned the same piece of meat to the grill. It came back unevenly cooked: one small portion was well done, while the rest was still medium rare. Additionally, we were served the wrong beer.

They were supposed to look for seats. We ended up finding one ourselves. The waiter never returned. Service took a very long time, and the cheese fondue wasn't very tasty.

Super fun visit. Our Genever guide Gijs (sp?) was excellent in explaining all of them in details. Genever will never be my go-to spirit, but a tasting while in Amsterdam is well worth it. There were a couple of pretty tasty ones in the lot. We got some snacks and they were very tasty, some of the best fries around, crunchy and flavorful. And the bitterballen were top notch. The atmosphere in the place is great, too, mix of tourists and locals. Make a reservation or go super early, by 4.30 the place was packed.

Really good spot to chill and have a good time. Food is great and the people are really nice. The only down side was that it took a little long for the waiter to ask us what we wanted but nothing too bad. Really good fondue and stew. I would highly recommend this place.

Loved this very authentic Dutch eatery. They make their own Genever. The staff explained what it was and I had a tasting plank. We had Mussels and Stewed Beef on Fries. Quite delish!

I had a fantastic evening! There was some confusion about my reservation, but the manager was able to resolve it effectively, and we were completely pampered afterward. The entire service was very friendly, the setting was very pleasant, and the food was excellent. I'll definitely be back!

Van Wees is a beautiful location, with an interior that evokes a bygone era. The menu is extensive and lovingly prepared. The service is also excellent.

What a surprise, typical Dutch food!! It's a tavern where they know exactly what they're doing, great service, and even better food. I recommend the beef stew (very good), and it's not expensive for the Netherlands; it's more expensive in Germany, and we ordered three dishes... I highly recommend it!!

This is one of the oldest distillery of Amsterdam. They have their own types of Dutch Genever(Father of Gin), beers, and other alcohols. Very sweet staff who will tell you regarding the history, what to order and how to drink in the traditional Dutch way. Please try the Dutch bitterballen with your drinks.

We had an amazing evening! The steak tartaar, paté and cheese fondue were amazing. Absolutely outstanding service by Daphne made our night complete. House wine slightly chilled with the fondue was a great match. As a born and raised local my new favorite place!

Lovely restaurant. Warm welcome despite not having a reservation. Always packed with a great atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying good local gin and fondue. Expect to pay around €50 per person for appetizers, drinks, and a main course.

Such lovely attentive staff despite a very busy night in December. Atmosphere was cosy and perfect. Satay chicken was delicious!

Unfortunately, the service was extremely poor. We mentioned that the portions were very small and received a very lukewarm response. We should have mentioned it sooner. We did, however, and the portions didn't improve. It's a shame that such establishments are primarily concerned with profit and no longer care about proper portion sizes.

I loved this place! They have several traditional dishes to try, and the food is delicious. The service was excellent; our waiter even spoke some Spanish. The place is small but cozy. We went on a weekday around lunchtime and were able to get in without a reservation.
