The Pantry in De Weteringschans

I really liked the food and the decor of the restaurant, everything is in the Dutch style. The Moulin plates on the walls, a goblin from Rembrandt's painting, the bouquets like in the paintings. The traditional soup, the sausage dish accompanied by three ladles of mashed potatoes (with carrots, with fermented cabbage, and with spinach I think), then a very generous dessert all for 25 euros. The beers are very good.

The food is excellent, but the quality is 0 points. The tables and chairs are crowded in the store. There are many empty seats in the back, but customers are still squeezed together (it is very uncomfortable to be pressed against other customers' chairs). It's crowded, and there is no air conditioning. It gets hotter and hotter as you eat.

The restaurant is very small and the decor is "old-fashioned," but impeccable! It feels like we're eating at our grandparents' house 😍 A restaurant offering traditional cuisine! The quality of the products is perfect, everything is delicious! The welcome is very friendly! We had lunch around 2:30 p.m. and had to wait 5 minutes for a table (2 people).

This is the perfect place to try some simple Dutch cuisine. We got an XXL set consisting of a large sausage and some potato-based garnishes, and it was amazing. The house beer is worth a try as well - a nice mild trippel that goes really well with the meat.

This lively spot is sure to be an experience in Dutch cooking! We had a great time in this small but mighty spot! The sausages were a bit hit as was the potato dishes that come with them! The fish and chips shined also!

The Pantry is well worth the visit for classic Dutch food. The ham was tasty as was the beef stew; the prices are very fair for Amsterdam. It’s possible that I’m just not a massive fan of the classic dutch dishes, I liked the food but wasn’t wowed by the flavours, still worth going to.

Believe the hype. It is worth every single bite. The first time I went to Amsterdam I didn't find a space to eat there and couldn't wait. This time, I went a bit later (3pm) and had a space for me. The end to end experience is delicious. I highly recommend the Menu 2. Don't go in a rush, as queue and service can be slow due to high demand.

Very good Dutch food. We each got the combo meal with an appetizer and dessert. The fish was delicious as was the caramel ice cream stroop waffle.

In Amsterdam wanted an authentic Dutch meal. Didn’t realise that it is essentially meat and potatoes- our meal wasn’t really cheap but that is probably more a reflection of our poor ranking AUD$. We shared the croquettes as an entree then also shared the minced beef and potatoes (kinda a mash with carrot and onion). Nice wholesome meal. What is interesting is the demand for this place with 5 to 10 people constantly waiting. Very friendly staff and efficient utilisation of a space like I have never seen. Fast and efficient but we never felt rushed.

The Dutch ham of the restaurant was perfect! The first time we came to the restaurant, we ordered pea soup, croquettes, meat ball and the sausages, which was also very tasty. But we didn’t ordered the ham. When we left the house, one of our friends told us had to go back and try again. Therefore we went to here for the second time, and the Dutch ham was just too good that we came for the third time afterward lol, it was so tender and juicy, not too salty, u can taste the pork taste of it, and served with mustard, I will rate 💯 for this ham and we’ll definitely come back again when we visit ams again next time😋😋

We went without a reservation on a Sunday at 4 p.m. It was packed, and after a five-minute wait, we were given a table inside. 10/10 food, fast service, and excellent value for money.

Walk in at 15:00 after a long stroll in the national museum. Order the menu 2 - grandmother, the 3 types of sausages and the classic Dutch ham — to die for - with sweet honey mustard sauce. Had 2 local beers and The Pantry one - delicious trippel 🍻

I think I know why The Pantry is so highly rated - not only is their food homely, hearty, and out-of-this-world, service was also really good. As we had a train to catch, we were there a little before their opening time and they so graciously gave us a table where we had our final meal before leaving Amsterdam. Suffice to say, bitterballen changed out lives...the kids asked for a second serving and I was like "take my money, just keep the bitterballen coming" :-) We also had the pea-soup, and a stamppot, all of which hit the spot and left us very happy and satisfied. What a great final meal and a great way to end our Amsterdam adventure!

In a fairly central area, an excellent restaurant where you can enjoy typical Dutch dishes. The place is always full, a limited reservation is possible. Otherwise you have to wait in line. The wait was not too long and the staff was extremely kind to keep us constantly updated. Very tasty and abundant food. We left more than satisfied. I recommend it to tourists and not only.

The Pantry feels like stepping into a warm, Dutch embrace. The decor, with its Delftware, Rembrandt replica, and cozy lighting, set the stage for one of the most comforting meals I had in Amsterdam. I started with the fish combination plate, smoked eel on toast, a mound of sweet little Dutch shrimp, and perfectly cured herring with pickles and raw onion. It was everything I hoped for in a traditional starter. The beef bitterballen that followed were golden, crisp, and paired beautifully with the sharp, grainy Zaanse mustard. For the main, I had the stamppot trio: hutspot, boerenkool, and zuurkool. all classic Dutch mashed potato blends, served with a juicy rookworst sausage. It was hearty, homey, and deeply satisfying. We ended with a slice of warm apple pie, dusted with powdered sugar and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. A perfect finish. This place isn’t just about Dutch food. it’s about Dutch feeling. Welcoming, unpretentious, and memorable.

Friendly service in a charming, unassuming Dutch influenced restaurant. Enjoyed an appetizer of mixed fish and the priced fixed menu of #3 & #4. Fresh assortment of sausages, bread & mustard, then a delicious beef stew with red saurkraut and mashed potatoes, followed by an decadent chocolate dessert of mousse, chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and a brandy egg sauce. All was delicious, but the dessert was to die for.

The staff here is excellent! They were quick and much nicer than what you would get usually which is fine but appreciate them being kind! Food was not bad everything had portions for one person. Amsterdam prices so can’t complain. Oven dish tasted hearty but croquettes felt a little too creamy. But still good place to visit.

Stopped by recently for lunch without a reservation and were nonetheless graciously received and promptly seated. The quarters are tight and casual, the service friendly and efficient, and the food hot and tasty. They offer a variety of three-course menus featuring traditional Dutch cuisine that would be a good deal anywhere, and are especially so adjacent to Amsterdam's busy museum quarter. Special features included home-made deserts and a full-size length of bottled beers. We'll definitely return next time we're in town!

Great location, great food, great welcome! Book if possible, because there isn't always room. The line can be moderately long depending on the evening. You can eat inside or at the tables outside, equipped with a blanket against the wind/cold. The space inside is small but welcoming. You eat very close to other people and the atmosphere is a bit noisy. The staff is very polite, understanding and kind. The quality-price ratio is excellent: although the prices may seem high, you have to consider that Amsterdam is one of the most expensive cities in Europe. For two people you spend about €60. The restaurant's proposal consists of 5 menus with increasing prices (from €25 per person and up) and an à la carte menu. Satisfied!

Simply the best place in Amsterdam, a must for first timers. The restaurant by itself is an attraction. We had dinner and ordered a local beer and 4 types of mashed potatoes with sausage and meatball, it was a happy susprise, our first dutch course of the trip and one we will always remember

Overrated. Overhyped. Average Dutch restaurant. Don’t waste your time to queue here (especially if you are Asian). The guy with white hair waitress absolutely very racist. I sat outside and see how he treated customers very differently. If it’s Asian he kept saying the restaurant is full and still waiting for the reservation and we don’t know how long it takes, meanwhile if it’s white people - he said ok come with me inside straightaway and asked “Where are you guys come from and make an conversation” LOL what a joke! Absolutely rubbish. Just go somewhere else tbh! It makes me so upset for 2025 and he is still so racist! Definitely will never come back! And he didn’t provided me a cutlery. Meanwhile the other customer he provided straightaway after they order from menu.

First time having Dutch cuisine, ordered Menu 2 (Grandmothers kitchen menu) with Dutch wine. The goat cheese croquettes was so crispy outside, rich and creamy inside. The oven dish was okay, but still tasty when added salt and pepper on top. The Poffertjes was delicious! Gooey but not too much, sweet but not too sweet. It was prefect!!!😭

The Dutch say they don’t have good food but I beg to differ. I really enjoyed my meal here and I picked from a set menu option to get a taste of three items. Goat cheese croquettes were delicious!!! The main entree reminded me of a shepherd’s pie, but Dutch style and the mini pancakes for dessert hit the spot!! Highly recommend reservations to eat here

There's usually quite a line. You can wait for over an hour. We weren't lucky enough to get a reservation and had to wait. If we return to Amsterdam, we will definitely return to this restaurant. The gentleman who served us was very pleasant.

We just had lunch here and ordered menus 1 and 3 and both were absolutely delicious! Plus the space is very cozy and you really sense you had the true dutch experience, really lovely staff as well! Really great choice to taste true dutch gastronomy!!

A cozy and eclectic restaurant serving up very tasty dishes. The servers were very friendly (interacted with 4 of them during our visit) The space was definitely tight, but the food and atmosphere are worth it.

The pork chop was stellar. It was thick and juicy. Pork chops tend to run dry but this was perfect. Everything else was a bit heavily salted for my preference but it could be a me thing. This place seems to fill out quickly and it’s really small so get in early or call to book.

We really enjoyed the food here - this restaurant is a hidden gem in Amsterdam! From the moment the food arrived it felt like we were eating warm, comfort food straight from a Dutch grandmother's kitchen. The pea soup with sausage was rich and delicious, served with delicious rye bread, bacon and mustard - a perfect start. The main course was an amazing trio of traditional Dutch dishes topped with the most delicious meatballs and a delicious gravy. Every scoop was full of life and flavour, prepared with such care. The relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and authentic food make this one of our favourite places in the city. If you want to experience real Dutch comfort food, this is the place for you!

We love the food here, and the owner was very kind to offer us seats, though we didn't make a reservation. The pea soup was lovely, and the steamed bass was cooked well. Both are also lactose-friendly.

Everything was delicious, beautifully cooked and served, the service was spectacular, and the price was very reasonable. If I return to Amsterdam, I'll definitely come back to try more dishes!

I ordered the main course called split peas. The meat was VERY salty and dry. It tasted weird. The bitterballen were great, but my main course oversalted and burned. I am sorry.

Excellent Food service and atmosphere. I booked in advance to ensure we got a table and glad we did as they were very busy and turning people away. We had the Combination of fish as a starter which was very good the smoked eel was lovely. For mains XXL Combination which was very tasty and plentiful and fillet of seabass. All was good value and very tasty well worth the trip we made to visit. Recommend wholeheartedly but book so your not disappointed

Very delicious food. The Dutch Ham and combination traditional Dutch sausage mains were both very good. The smoked eel starter was delicious. And the apple tart I couldn't share with my partner because it was so good. Romantic, cozy, tight space between tables.

Local cuisine. The plates are generous and everyone is cheerful. A pleasant surprise: two waitresses spoke French and helped us choose our typical dishes. A very pleasant break. I recommend it.

A small but fine menu. The food was excellent; we opted for a suggested set menu. Three courses plus a drink—I think it cost around €100. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table because we didn't have a reservation, but reservations are recommended. The noise level was high throughout, but not unpleasant. The servers were friendly and had no problem with special requests. The food was served hot on really hot plates.

Recently went to eat at The Pantry with my girlfriend. I chose the seafood platter and it really surpassed everything. The mussels, shrimp and fish fillets tasted like they had just come out of the water that morning. Super fresh, nothing tough or dry. We were both enjoying ourselves and didn't even need sauce. That's how it should be.

Have to make reservations in advance in order to avoid long waiting time. Food feels homely, and there are a wide variety of selections!

What a cool restaurant highlighting Dutch cuisine! Service staff are amazingly welcoming and seem genuinely happy to share their food culture. Restaurant is a physically small space and is extremely popular so I would recommend having a reservation if you want a prime dining time. They have a nice, reasonably priced selection of three course lunch meals at a pre fixe price as well as a full a la carts menu. Great place to introduce yourself to the classic food of the Netherlands!

Loved the staff. The day my friend and I wanted to try this place out they had a LOT of reservations. The host gave us the option to be seated outdoors if we really wanted to (it was raining but the restaurant's banner would keep us dry, a blanket and heater was there too!) The food was great. Shared the XXL dish and a beer with a friend. Highly recommend the place. Also highly highly recommend making a reservation. My friend and I got lucky because soon after we were seated a whole lot of people tried to dine in here as well.

2025.6.2 A popular Dutch restaurant We went in almost at the same time as the restaurant opened at 12 o'clock, so we were able to get in without a reservation, but it filled up soon after and there were many customers waiting outside. The restaurant is quite small and there are only a few seats, so if you don't go early, it will be around 1pm before you can get a seat. The food was very delicious, with a homely taste that wasn't too strong. Since many dishes are made using the oven, it takes time to prepare the food, so it's best to go with plenty of time. All the staff were friendly and left a very good impression. Credit cards are accepted

Arrived at about 5 o'clock and there was no queue at all. The boss is warm and humorous, which makes the dinner atmosphere more interesting. The English menu is clearly marked and it is easy to order wine 👍🏻 When you ask the waiter about the differences or contents of the dishes, they will explain them very clearly and in a very good manner. The food is delicious, it is the best place to experience Dutch cuisine!

Food was good, but as a tourist I'm not sure if this is the best Dutch food restaurant to go.. The queue is taking so long and after we've got the seat, it still taking so much time for the food to arrived. So I think there might be a better option nearby. Poffertjes and the ham was good though..

The gratin curry was delicious, topped with a layer of potatoes. The pickled sauerkraut in the beef stew is sour and sweet, and goes well with potatoes and beef. Desserts are highly recommended, the muffins are freshly made, and the yogurt is not sour at all, very delicious! The staff are very friendly and kind, which makes people very happy after eating!
