Spectacular meal. We had no idea what we were going to eat. No menu, just sit down and pit yourself in their hands. Hans was a wonderful host, he provided detailed descriptions of the wines. Pricey but a good value for what we got.

We were in de Utrechtse Dwarstafel 10 years ago and we loved it, so we decided to come again to celebrate our 10 years anniversary and we had again an amazing experience. We had a food and wine pairing, every dish was carefully explained and every wine had a story to be beautifully told. Every bite we took was an explosion of delicious flavours and the wine was the cherry on top of the cake. Can’t recommend it enough!! We will not wait again 10 years to come back 💛

Definitely not a typical experience you have at a top restaurant. And that makes it ten times better. Hans is a unique host. His knowledge of both food and wine is fantastic. Each wine complemented the dish, and all five dishes and wines were excellent. A very pleasant, almost homey setting with his dog happily wagging his tail. We will definitely be back! More than just a top restaurant.

My favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. I have been coming here for years, and everytime has been an absolute pleasure. The atmosphere, is casual and intimate. The food is michelin level. The winepairing is exquisite. Hans takes his time explaining dishes, wines and always up for having a chat with the guests.

An incredible experience. We walked in spontaneously and had a wonderful evening. The food was exceptional and the owner’s slightly quirky personality made for an entertaining meal. Breaks away from the standard “modern European” restaurant in Amsterdam - it is not pretending to be anything it is not. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a super special occasion in Amsterdam.

After two years, I returned to enjoy it again. What a fantastic place, atmosphere, and setting. I really don't understand why they don't have a Michelin star yet. The food is delicious and beautifully presented at a high level. The wines in the menu are excellent. They pair so well with the food. Fantastic.

We are so glad to share that our experience dining here validated and even transcended what people said in prior reviews about this restaurant. It felt as though Hans welcomed us into his home- it’s certainly his domain, which features Chiara- his best friend and beautiful shar pie. The atmosphere is unpretentious almost casual. The food, presentation and wine pairings are as good, if not better than any Michelin restaurant we’ve been to. It doesn’t happen often that you marvel at the fresh ingredients and innovative combinations of each and every course. Appetizer to dessert, each course was enhanced by Han’s thoughtful wine pairings. We were never rushed - stayed almost four enjoyable hours. Bravo and thank you to Hans, the talented “Princess” in the kitchen…and of course, Chiara.

So sorry for the owner to read about the very few and extreme reviews. Our experience was pleasant enough, food was great, owner was friendly, ambience very nice, nothing to complain at all. The cost is certainly not low but where we came from, we usually pay 50% more for the equivalent standard, or instead of 5-6 courses, we get only 3 courses. The only thing I noticed, being a dog lover myself, the Sharpei was noticeably thin. Hope the owner is feeding her regularly.

We had a wonderful meal during our early 6 p.m. shift so we could head straight to the theater. The food was delicious, lovingly prepared. The host was super friendly and passionate about his work. He provided detailed explanations of the wines. Highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant during our honeymoon and unfortunately had a very uncomfortable experience with the owner. During the meal, he pulled a chair to sit next to my wife, repeatedly touched her arm, and asked her to roll up her sleeve. This was alarming, and we wanted to leave immediately. When I confronted him to end the service and settle the bill, he offered what we had eaten at no charge and apologized, but the incident still ruined the night and made us too uncomfortable to continue the meal. While the food and wine were fine, the experience overshadowed it, and we will not be returning.

Very stuffy inside, and when I walked in the dog growled at me and then I thought he calmed down and when I went towards the bar, he growled at me again, so why would you have an aggressive dog greeting your customers?

Unfortunately a total miss for us. Expected a very professional fine dining establishment, but instead got: - Average food that lacked imagination - 0 consideration for allergies (which we forgot to mention upfront) - Extrenely rude owner - Dog walking around - No half wine pairing possible - Wines were excellent but not worth it (as some point you're too drunk to appreciate the quality) We paid 280e pp which is more than any Michelin star restaurant we've been to in Amsterdam where I've had astronomically better experiences. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Dinner here was one of my best meals ever. The owner was very nice - he even hung our coats to dry by the heater. He paired the dishes with wonderful wines. The plates were not only beautiful, they provided an amazing combination of tastes and textures. We also enjoyed the fact that it was a surprise set menu that took into account our likes/dislikes. A special thanks to Chef Esther for amazing food.Every dish was bursting with flavours ,which was augmented by Hans the sommelier on the floor who paired beautiful wines to compliment each dish. The restaurant is still as fantastic as it was 20 years ago! All the wine was perfect, the food was delicious, the explanation of the food and drinks is nice and is given so enthusiastically that you already get hungry while he is just talking. Hans has created a truly special place for memorable meals. I visit every time I'm in Amsterdam, and I've never been disappointed. Esther's food is as delicious as it is beautiful. Good food; good wine; good service. Each of these is a very specific art form that ties restaurant has mastered. I sat next to a piano converted in bottles, giving a hint of what was to come. The waitstaff is attentive and unobtrusive, though more than willing to engage in conversation if you desire. As one should, I chose the level 2 wines and six courses. Don’t short yourself—you deserve to taste every thing this establishment had to offer. Each course is delicately prepared. Every component is delicious in its own right and becomes part of a symphony when combined and paired with the wines. Han’s explains the wines and courses in a matter of fact way, though with the underlying playfulness that you need for a good menu. He is personable and delightful. The chef is an invisible force, creating her complex works of art in the kitchen. But you can see her dedication and desire to make good food in every plate. I’ll confess, I poked my head in the kitchen to show my appreciation and she smiled in return. The food and wine play together, highlighting different elements. A desert course brings out a licorice in the wine. A starter calms a wild briney Chardonnay. Treat yourself to De Utrechtsefwarstafel. You won’t regret it.

Ich habe das Glück genossen einen Tisch für eine Person zu ergattern was sonst schwierig ist und kaum hingesessen, wurde ich ganz charmant gefragt ob ich denn mutig bin oder nicht und diese Herausforderung liess ich mir nicht nehmen. Gestartet mit einem Glas Montre Cul Champagner und aufgehört mit einem starken Schnaps an den ich mich nicht erinnere, nach dem feuchtfröhlichen Abend. Die kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten die die Prinzessin zaubert sind mit den edlen Tropfen perfekt abgestimmt das ich etwas wie nie zuvor erleben durfte. Ich fühlte mich willkommen wahrgenommen und als Gast sehr geschätzt. Bleibt so wie ihr seid, ihr macht das perfekt. Ich versuche sobald wie möglich wieder zu kommen nur wegen euch. He introduced each course and wine pairing, explaining each dish and creating an immersive experience for both the mind and the mouth. My husband and I enjoy fine dining, and we both felt that this was the best dinner event we have ever had. It was truly special and such a memorable way to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. We also loved the owner's sweet little dog!

We had our Amsterdam Date Night here in Feb 2022, and we STILL talk about this dinner almost 2 years later. It's definitely one of the best meals of our life so far. We got the set menu with the wine pairing, and it was just perfect. Of course, it was also the most expensive meal we've probably had, but it was definitely worth it. The atmosphere is very cozy. Our host was friendly and gave us a whole background to the food we were having and made it very personal.

Ciara the sharpei greeted us and from there we had the most excellent meal. Around 8 tables perfectly orchestrated over the evening with some of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. Thank you!
