I expected more. The girl from Ciel Bleu, blah blah. I thought it was average to mediocre. I hate to say it, but for what you're paying, I really want to see chef skills. Courageous, cool, tough, superior surprise. It's hard to believe.

Increíble buena comida y experiencia de vino. Extraño en que es un menú fijo por lo que la elección es si tomar los 5 o 6 platos y luego puede elegir vino maridado de buena o excelente calidad. Cada plato era delicioso y nos presentaron algunos vinos nuevos y deliciosos - porciones muy generosas también ! No me habría perdido la experiencia por el mundo, pero espero obtener lo que se le da. Dinner here was one of my best meals ever. The owner was very nice - he even hung our coats to dry by the heater. He paired the dishes with wonderful wines. The plates were not only beautiful, they provided an amazing combination of tastes and textures. We also enjoyed the fact that it was a surprise set menu that took into account our likes/dislikes. A truly enjoyable evening, well worth the money. Thank you so much! (We would definitely recommend this place to our friends visiting Amsterdam if we could read the name 😳)

This restaurant is a hidden gem.Our dining experience here was nothing short of exceptional . We had the tasting menu. A special thanks to Chef Esther for amazing food.Every dish was bursting with flavours ,which was augmented by Hans the sommelier on the floor who paired beautiful wines to compliment each dish. Hans told a story about each bottle of wine which gave the impression he knew each bottle of intimately.When we return to Amsterdam this will be our first port of call. The restaurant is still as fantastic as it was 20 years ago! All the wine was perfect, the food was delicious, the explanation of the food and drinks is nice and is given so enthusiastically that you already get hungry while he is just talking. Hans has created a truly special place for memorable meals. I visit every time I'm in Amsterdam, and I've never been disappointed. Esther's food is as delicious as it is beautiful. Her white asparagus soup was one of the best things I've ever tasted. Hans' wine pairings are well considered, and his stories and presentation are delightful. Not to be missed!

The waitstaff is attentive and unobtrusive, though more than willing to engage in conversation if you desire. As one should, I chose the level 2 wines and six courses. Don’t short yourself—you deserve to taste every thing this establishment had to offer. Each course is delicately prepared. Every component is delicious in its own right and becomes part of a symphony when combined and paired with the wines. Han’s explains the wines and courses in a matter of fact way, though with the underlying playfulness that you need for a good menu. He is personable and delightful. The chef is an invisible force, creating her complex works of art in the kitchen. But you can see her dedication and desire to make good food in every plate. I’ll confess, I poked my head in the kitchen to show my appreciation and she smiled in return. The food and wine play together, highlighting different elements. A desert course brings out a licorice in the wine. A starter calms a wild briney Chardonnay. Treat yourself to De Utrechtsefwarstafel. You won’t regret it.

Liebe Ester Lieber Hans und Neil und natürlich Chiara ! Ich kann mich garnicht genug für den wunderbaren Abend bedanken. Ich habe das Glück genossen einen Tisch für eine Person zu ergattern was sonst schwierig ist und kaum hingesessen, wurde ich ganz charmant gefragt ob ich denn mutig bin oder nicht und diese Herausforderung liess ich mir nicht nehmen. Gestartet mit einem Glas Montre Cul Champagner und aufgehört mit einem starken Schnaps an den ich mich nicht erinnere, nach dem feuchtfröhlichen Abend. Die kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten die die Prinzessin zaubert sind mit den edlen Tropfen perfekt abgestimmt das ich etwas wie nie zuvor erleben durfte. Ich fühlte mich willkommen wahrgenommen und als Gast sehr geschätzt. Bleibt so wie ihr seid, ihr macht das perfekt. Ich versuche sobald wie möglich wieder zu kommen nur wegen euch. Absolutely outstanding culinary experience, from start to finish. The owner was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his restaurant. He introduced each course and wine pairing, explaining each dish and creating an immersive experience for both the mind and the mouth. My husband and I enjoy fine dining, and we both felt that this was the best dinner event we have ever had. It was truly special and such a memorable way to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. We also loved the owner's sweet little dog!

We had our Amsterdam Date Night here in Feb 2022, and we STILL talk about this dinner almost 2 years later. It's definitely one of the best meals of our life so far. We got the set menu with the wine pairing, and it was just perfect. Of course, it was also the most expensive meal we've probably had, but it was definitely worth it. The atmosphere is very cozy. Our host was friendly and gave us a whole background to the food we were having and made it very personal.

Ciara the sharpei greeted us and from there we had the most excellent meal. Around 8 tables perfectly orchestrated over the evening with some of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. Thank you!

The slightly worn, cluttered setting when you walk in belies the elevated dinner experience that lies ahead. Although the ingredients are simple, the flavors and presentation are captivating. There are five courses (€95pp) with the option of a good or exceptional wine pairing at higher rates. We opted for a nonalcoholic dinner, but friends who have visited highly recommend the wine pairing. Note that it's important to make a reservation in advance and even more important to confirm it when the owner reaches out via email, lest your reservation gets canceled. Which would be a real shame. The pork cheek was absolutely delicious, the cod melts in your mouth like a warm hug, and the nectarine iced dessert was hands down the best dessert we've had in a long time. As for what can be improved, the first course of brined tuna was only good, not great. The various elements in the dish didn't love each other, the union more closely resembled an arranged marriage. However, the one thing I'd really change is the bread; no butter on Earth can improve the experience of crunching on a rock hard dinner roll. Those minor points aside, we had a delightful dinner and left more than satisfied. My partner loved how intimate the atmosphere felt. It's like you're in someone's home, and they're taking good care of you with the freshest ingredients. Their dog, meandering around without a care in the world, adds to the cosiness.

Although we somehow missed the arrival confirmation mail, and our table was cancelled, we were still seated by the owner, who is the wine expert that did the pairings throughout the dinner. There was a bit of a communication barrier due to his English but he was interesting and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, the chef did a great with each element of each dish. The sea bass over barley was just amazing!! The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.

Additionally, I must mention my concern about the restaurant founder's stance on certain issues. I was disturbed to learn that the founder has shown tolerance towards Russian individuals and appeared to have an indifferent attitude towards the war in Ukraine. Overall, I cannot recommend Restaurant De Utrechtsedwarstafel based on my experience. The food was subpar, the prices were unjustified, and the founder's views were concerning. We were given this suggestion by someone who called it his favorite restaurant of all time in Amsterdam. Excellent off the beaten path restaurant near Prisengracht where the owner of 26 years exudes the pride and love you would imagine one has for their family. And he treats all there as family, explaining with care the appellations of wine, the ingredients of the food and the precise preparation. It is literally a surprise fixed 5 course menu - you are 100% able to notify them if allergies etc and they accommodate you. I could tell you what we had, yours may not be the same at all. We started with a leek consommé amuse bouche, then a fish course with smoked salmon and warm smoked salmon topped with a birds nest to add the crunch. Superb. There were several other delicious courses and the main meat was an excellently prepared lamb chop. Each course is prepared with several sauces and complementary ingredients. You can pair courses when “Level “ 1 or 2 wines - the difference at this point is €30 more pp to jump from. My friend who suggested I come here will often ask for a beyond Level2 experience and he is always happy with that choice! We loved the location off of one of the canals - it’s worth finding it here yourself

1st impression looks a bit wear and tear image but what a fantastic place with great food and super wines. The service is done by the owner himself and he does a great job. Highly recommendable.
