A bit too salty for my taste, but delicious! A couple searches showed that it's first come first served, but they do take reservations. Fun little place with Dutch authenticity.

I was there years ago and had the best stew I ever had, to this day. The chips and mayo are also awesome. The service is most kind and the place is cosy. I recommend the place to everyone I know.

reservations definitely recommended. we came here without one and it was quite a wait (our choice to do so!) and people who lined up after us got turned away. i feel very lucky to have gotten to eat here on my last day in the netherlands 😭 the food seems simple but the execution is without flaws. the dishes LOOK unassuming, possibly even underwhelming, until you taste them we got the schnitzel which was perfectly fried, seasoned, clearly good quality pork, and the "grandma's meatball" which was bursting with flavor. and it was extremely juicy, and the size of my fist 😂 the vegetables that come with the dishes are steamed or prepared otherwise simply but they are paired thoughtfully with the main you selected. and they are not flavorless mush like you might expect when you hear "steamed vegetables" - they are still salted, cooked the perfect amount to preserve the essence of the vegetable boiled potatoes might sound boring but they are damn good potatoes. the quality of them matters and they had a great texture and flavor. have them with some of the sauce from the meatball... heaven definitely recommend this place if you are looking for traditional dutch cuisine 💖 p.s. the restroom is laughably tiny. it's clean! usable! but it's very small in a way that i've never seen before 😅

Great place to eat. Food came out simple but so well prepared. Really happy to try local food and not the mediocre tourist trap area restaurants. Possibly the most satisfying meal we had in Amsterdam. The schnitzel was so crispy and delicious. Stewed beef was fantastic. Pork chop was juicy and tender. Concerned it was a bit undercooked in some areas though. Liver was very interesting but delicious.

We ordered traditional Dutch dishes, although they are nothing special like in Croatia where we come from. Quite expensive prices for such simple dishes - chicken breast fried in a pan with pepper sauce and classic beef goulash (the meat was excellent) and a side dish of boiled potatoes and vegetables (it was not presented what the vegetables were, in the end it was boiled carrots and peas and something else we were not sure what it was, but it was not delicious). The employees were very friendly.

This was the most amazing restaurant. It is a family- style restaurant with authentic Dutch food. The place is tiny so a reservation is ideal, but they were very generous at fitting me in as a solo traveler. The food was SO good. This was my favorite meal in Amsterdam. I highly recommend!

Hands down the best Dutch food I've ever had. On top of the amazing food was the phenomenal staff. A lot of restaurants don't have the personal touch feel, this absolutely felt like a homemade meal.

Small restaurant, very much recommended reservations. We lucked out by being there when they opened. Solid food, schnitzel with boiled or fried potatoes. Super pork chop. Meatballs. All delicious. Lots of veggies including simple but addictive cooked cabbage and carrots.

they didn't give me any sauce, for 20 euros I got 4 asparagus, 2 slices of ham and 2 boiled eggs for the main course, the 3 of us got the same portion of potatoes in one bowl as the 2 people on the tables next to us got, but the waitress lied to us, these people got a smaller amount when they got the same amount, the food had zero spices and looked like random shopping on a Sunday evening, after which you make a healthy meal to add macronutrients, not a tailored dish a restaurant with a rating of 4.7 and a cost of 20 euros per meal, I do not greet you.

Absolutely delicious and delightful atmosphere

Order carpaccio, tomato soup, liver and onion, Amsterdam chicken, beef stew and schnitzel. Carpaccio had fresh ingredients, good quality beef, pesto had good flavour. Slight disappointment is the carpaccio has sinew which affected the texture. Tomato soup has strong smoky flavour, was yummy. Liver is normal, how you expect it to taste. Onion was very flavourful. Chicken was white meat and flavourful. Meat was not dry. Would probably taste better with dark meat. Stew beef has good flavour but is quite dry even with the sauce. Some might find it to be too salty Schnitzel was yummy. Crispy, meat is tender and has good texture. You get a TON of potatoes. The chocolate soufflé is a lava cake and not a soufflé. Probably just translation error. Lava cake is very meh, too sticky, too dense, not enough lava. Favour was alright though. The house special lemon ice cream is good. Strong and clean lemon flavour.

We love mediterrean food and we loved this restaurant. Excellent flavours, good wines and a special liquer tia maria at the end. It is understandable why you have to do a reservation due to the high quality Affordable prices and well served dishes. Very recommend to try dutch food.

It's a shame that a young foreign couple (me and my boyfriend) is not treated the same as a national adult couple (40-60 years old). To make a long story short, the treatment felt very different and even a little bad. Additionally, they omitted extra pricing information and we ended up paying more. They didn't offer us the daily specials or the option of which vegetables we wanted. I compare all this with the table next to me (I understand Dutch quite well and I listened to the conversation with the waitress), they were informed of all the extra prices, the specials of the day, the vegetable option they had and several other recommendations. Although the food was very delicious.

Super cozy restaurant, we ate there 3 days a week for a few weeks because we were working in Amsterdam. The food is really delicious and plenty of it so your belly is nice and full. Owners and staff very friendly and it is as if you have known them for years. Greetings recycling company pol from Enschede, by the way, see you soon because then I will come with my wife 😂😂💪

The schnitzel and all the boiled vegetables that came with it were amazing, our family loved it very much.

A perfect place to go after a long day. Warm and comforting. The stewed beef was extremely satisfying and the broth went well with the boiled potatoes. My wife and I left full and there were sides leftover. I would highly recommend it to everyone. They did have vegetarian options. Highly recommend making a reservation as it's very popular.

Visited Amsterdam in 2019 and the meal I had here is still a highlight of the trip. Schnitzel was delicious, with vegetables - it was like a home cooked meal. Large portions as well. Found out about it from the front desk at my hotel - it was a top notch recommendation. Highly recommend.

Typical Dutch food at the highest level at a moderate price. This was the first but not the last time I will visit it. Hmmm….

I emailed about 10 days beforehand & received a reply really quickly confirming my booking. Sadly they couldn’t find it when I arrived but accommodated us as we were there at 6.30pm. Phew The staff were friendly, approachable and made us feel welcome in “Yummy bites”. I had the stewed beef which was tasty, filling and just the right portion size. Also thought I’d try the home made pudding, sadly not to my type as it was really sweet and an odd consistency but I’m glad I tried it. Would recommend a visit but if you want a table and haven’t booked then go early.

Fantastic Local restaurant that serves authentic Dutch cuisine. The award winning Viennese Scitchzel was really good and the stewed beef exceptional. It is a small and cozy place so make reservations in advance as it is ofen full. The service was fast and friendly, we will definitely be back when visiting Amsterdam.

We really enjoyed our visit to Hap-Hmm. The interior is less a restaurant, more a home and has an atmosphere to match. We were warmly welcomed and appeared to be surrounded by locals and I would assume regulars. Meals were very good and great value, service was excellent. Would highly recommend

Nice family restaurant serving hearty, simple, down-to-earth homemade dishes and frequented by locals. I liked the beef stew, which is delicious and comes with generous portions of beans and potatoes. The restaurant is very small and reservation is highly recommended. I tried to go to this restaurant twice: first time I showed up around 6pm and all the tables were occupied; second time I showed up around 5pm on a weekday night and managed to snatch one out of two empty tables, except that my table was spoken for starting from 6pm. So if you plan to dine there between 6-8pm, I highly recommend you make a reservation because all their tables get booked up starting from 6pm even on a random weekday. I really like the photos/pictures hanging on the walls.

I went there for dinner. I don’t eat meat, but I do eat fish. I asked for a fish dish, but they said they didn’t have any for today, so I went for a vegetarian schnitzel (one of the three vegetarian options on the menu). The taste wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The main issue was that the portion was very small, and the side dishes weren’t anything special. My boyfriend’s meal (he ordered meat) was delicious. We mentioned this to the waitress so that maybe they could improve this in the future. Just because it’s not a vegetarian restaurant doesn’t mean the vegetarian dishes on the menu should be bad; they should have the same quality as the meat dishes. During the meal no one came to ask how the food was, but at the end, after paying, we told to the waitress. She offered me a coffee but I didn’t want it. She apologized

This local spot was filled with people every night. The food was home made and Dutch. My husband got one large meatball and fixings and I had a chicken dish. Everything was good. Very authentic local experience.

Everything is excellent, from the welcome to the bill! The dishes are authentic, tasty and plentiful, served with kindness and a smile. The prices are very reasonable. We thank the whole team for the good time spent in their restaurant, and we recommend it without restriction, except to think about booking.

Had a great evening here with my mother. I have rarely eaten as well as we did here this evening and the 3 ladies who served here were friendly and hospitable and certainly not shy of a chat! This restaurant is 100% worth it!!

Wonderful and very cheap place to eat homemade Dutch food. A little far from the center but well worth it. Few tables and always full but with luck you will find a place.

We wanted to know a little about Dutch gastronomy so we stopped at this house-restaurant at 5 in the afternoon. Good service and good food, what we liked the most was the dessert, I recommend ordering the homemade pudding.

Fantastic no-nonsense restaurant. Delicious freshly prepared vegetables and meat. Real old Dutch, such as stewed meat and veal liver. Super!

The first time I ate the stew here I was crying over my plate. I haven't eaten this so well since my mother's death. Stewed pears are also so delicious and then the macaroon pudding, so nostalgically delicious! The second time I ordered exactly the same thing again, luckily I kept it dry and I enjoyed it again.

Delicious Dutch food. You can't go wrong with the schnitzel. Be sure to make a reservation, email has worked best. It's a small place relative to the number of tables and you may sometimes have to wait a little while even with a reservation. They even have a vegetarian schnitzel!

It was so much fun again and we had a delicious meal with the beach neighbors. Bas can cook Dutch cuisine so deliciously and Lia ensures a cozy living room atmosphere with the service and that the delicious food comes to the table quickly. Fantastic!!!

This is a real gem in the center of Amsterdam. Family owned restaurants with traditional, tasty Dutch food. Almost impossible to reserve, it's worth the effort :)

I was so pleasantly surprised when I came to this restaurant. Nothing pretentious, nothing fancy or over the top, just a simple small place where people come for a home cooked meal with simple yet high quality ingredients ( and with a helping of love for the craft of cooking). If you get hot easily, do not come here because the restaurant does not have air conditioner and it gets stuffy. It absolutely gave me the endearing impression of a meal at home. Creamy mushroom soup elicited nostalgic emotions. The delicious and cooked to perfection schnitzel with a balck pepper sauce was a celebration of quality meat. The simple sides of cooked leeks and fried ( real, not French fries) potatoes made it so much homier. For dessert , we went for the pudding of the day, which was a tapioca pudding ( not the nursing home kind, but the delicious and thick kind) with whipped cream and a liqueur-used thinl layer of sauce with have a gourmand bitterness, toning down the sweetness. My sister had an airy chocolate souffle ( which is exceptionally hard to make, despite the seemingly easy recipe) with a cherry preserve, sweet, yet tart. Two things to note, you absolutely need a reservation here!!! To the owners, please change "whippet" cream to "whipped", because it gives the wrong impression;).

Amsterdam is not Texas because bigger is not necessarily better. Case in point is Hollands Hap Hmm restaurant. This tiny restaurant is truly a gem, and if you're lucky enough to get a reservation, you'll see why local folks rave about the traditional delectable meals, awesome service and like home vibe.

My favourite restaurant in Amsterdam since I moved to the Netherlands 3 years ago, simply because it knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else (hard to find in this city). They are the best at what they do. Food is great quality, nothing too fancy but its all delicious and comforting. Seasonal vegetables so you always get to have something different every time you go. The prices are so reasonable and such a breath of fresh air in a place where you feel you are getting ripped off at every corner. I brought my dad here when he visited me over 2 years ago-and we have been coming together ever since, and have brought other family members who have come to visit me in the Netherlands too. He talks about it to anyone he knows who is visiting the city. The families who run it are so lovely and have amazing, old school service. I have never been disappointed here. Special mention to the Amsterdam Beer Chicken and the Chocolate Fondant!!!!

So glad we found this restaurant! The service was great and the food felt like a little piece of home. The dining area is set up in a space that feels like someone’s home (and probably was) and had a cozy feel. I got the award-winning schnitzel and highly recommend getting the sauce. It was tasty and not overly oily with a good ratio of meat to breading. The fried potatoes were crispy and worked well with the mayo and the sauce! My partner ordered the beef stew and high was delicious with the boiled potatoes and had a great depth of flavour.

One of my favorite meals in all of Europe. If I could give 6 stars I would. Everything was amazing, stewed beef, beer chickens, mushroom soup (soup of the day). Service was excellent. Finished with some amazing deserts and a pleasant walk back to the hotel. If you find yourself in Amsterdam this is a must visit restaurant.
