A superb experience for my husband's birthday. We opted for the Signature menu and it was flawless from start to finish. A huge thank you to the dining room staff, who were incredibly kind and carefully adapted all my dishes to accommodate my pregnancy. Even with these restrictions, the experience remained amazing (the macadamia lobster and Wagyu beef were exceptional). The ambiance and service fully live up to the restaurant's reputation. We will definitely be back.

This is what 2 Michelin stars gets you vs. 1 star. We’ve been to numerous 1 Michelin star restaurants before, and the majority have been between quite good to very good. But Aan de Poel is in another league. The food (both taste and presentation) was very good, and consistently so with each course. The pacing of the dishes was excellent, and service was top notch, from everyone from water fillers to the sommelier & head waiter. Higher prices often mean more staff to serve you (but not always)! Warm, inviting room too. Value is borderline OK, but when everything is so perfect, you don’t really mind. If you want a special dinner book yourself a night to remember here. Brad & Sharon (Canada)

What a fantastic experience. The food was truly stunning, and every plate was a small work of art in itself. Our party particularly enjoyed the refined preparations with the fresh green accents and the rich sauces. The wine list is also excellently curated. We enjoyed, among others, the Neumeister Straden Sauvignon Blanc from 2023, a delicious choice that paired perfectly with the dishes. Everything was perfect down to the last detail, from the personal name cards on the table to the beautiful presentation of the plates. We will certainly be back here soon for another evening of culinary delight.

By far the best! Lovely place with a beautiful view over the Poel. The food is indescribably delicious and the people who have turned their hobby into their job here are happy! And you can see that reflected in everything! You do have to save up a bit, but it is more than worth it!

We had a wonderful lunch at Aan de Poel for my husband's birthday. We had pleasant contact beforehand via email regarding our baby, who would be joining us. The welcome was incredibly warm, and to our surprise, several staff members congratulated my husband on his birthday, even though I hadn't even mentioned it in the reservation. The wine pairing was excellent, with surprising choices that complemented the dishes perfectly. And the view over the Poel completes the experience perfectly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

A very nice restaurant and well deserving of their Michelin star. The overall experience was very good. We were there for a business dinner. We had the private room, which is nice and quiet, so it's not only great for business but maybe also if you have a big group of friends or family. We were there with 12 people, and that fitted right comfortably. The menu was very nice, presented every time with a great explanation and matching wines. Overall, the service was excellent, and we were there for way longer than we expected, but that was actually a good thing because time flew by without a hitch. I would highly recommend it for both family, business, or friends. They also have a great terrace with an outdoor view.

It will come as no surprise that this is highly recommended. From the moment you step inside, you are well taken care of – as you would expect. Before you can even think about what you want, your needs are already met. Wonderful. The dishes were exquisite, pure works of art for the eyes and the taste buds. They were also able to accommodate my vegan preferences very well. All in all, we had a wonderful evening!

Some restaurants live in your memory as a kind of gold standard - a reference point against which all others are measured. For me, Aan de Poel was exactly that after my first visit in 2017. The plating, the storytelling on the plate, the warmth of every interaction - it was, without exaggeration, the finest dining experience of my life at the time. Which makes this review all the more painful to write. Returning in March 2026, we were greeted by a half-empty dining room - a silence that, in retrospect, said everything. The team remains exceptional. The service is gracious, attentive, genuinely lovely - and honestly, the only reason this isn’t a one-star review in spirit. The view over the lake at dusk is still quietly breathtaking. But the food? The tasting menu was a disappointment from start to finish. Not just underwhelming - actively oversalted(!!!), course after course. Whether it’s an overreliance on umami or something else entirely, the effect was the same: flavour obliterated rather than elevated. For a two-Michelin-star kitchen, this is not a stumble - it’s a fall. A small but telling detail: there was no hot water in the bathroom to wash your hands. At a two-star restaurant. I’m not sure what to say. What also struck me is how out of step the restaurant feels with the times. A significant share of today’s diners - millennials, Gen Z - don’t drink alcohol. Yet Aan de Poel offers no non-alcoholic pairing menu whatsoever. And this isn’t about budget - we were perfectly happy spending €300–400+ on dinner. What we wanted was to feel respected as non-drinkers. A thoughtful non-alcoholic beverage menu costs the restaurant almost nothing to create, but it signals something important: that you see your guests. Right now, that signal is missing. The tea selection is limited to black and green, with no indication of brand or origin. At this level, that’s not an oversight - it’s a statement, and not a flattering one. I find myself wondering: has the chef changed since 2017? Was this simply an off night? I genuinely hope so. But I can’t return on hope alone. Never again - and that, more than anything, is what saddens me most.

Everything was perfect. We got the signature menu with the wine pairing. Our favorite dishes were the bluefin tuna and the steak tartare. Everyone was so kind. They even wrote us a card for our anniversary and gifted us a chocolate bar. Maybe the portions could have been a little bigger, both for the food and the wine, but we have no complaints other than that. We will definitely visit again!! 🫠🌟

The food was delicious. Good ingredients were treated with respect. I thoroughly enjoyed the chef's specials (e.g., truffle ravioli and wagyu). The food was absolutely top-notch. The atmosphere was great. Cozy and warm, the restaurant was a bit larger/busier than I'm used to, but a more intimate setting is purely personal and doesn't detract from the ambiance here. My criticisms relate entirely to the service. I didn't think it was appropriate for a two-star restaurant. It's not a huge deal, but taken together, it does detract from the overall experience, which is a shame. A few examples: - Initially, there was no clarity about the menu and specials. The menu was listed, and apparently, there was an extra special included without it being explicitly mentioned. We would have definitely wanted it, but I expect a clear selection. - Bread and spreads were brought to the table without any explanation. - There are practically no decent non-alcoholic alternatives. - When I indicated that I (almost) didn't drink any wine because I was driving, no alternative was offered or recommended. - I asked for a dessert wine, which was forgotten. - Because it was so busy, everything felt a bit chaotic, and I sometimes felt like I was being overlooked. All in all, a great experience with delicious food. The staff was friendly, but there were some (hopefully minor) minor flaws that affected the overall experience.

Well, about every five years I give myself a double star. It's also easy because this one is practically around the corner. The interior is warm and chic, with lots of black interspersed with enormous bouquets of pink flowers and rose gold chandeliers. The spacious open kitchen, which is still quiet, catches the eye. You also immediately notice how many people are serving food and that every now and then a chef from the kitchen also serves and explains a dish. During the three amuse-bouches, you can decide which menu to choose. We all chose the signature menu, which featured all the best dishes. Each dish was served on a different plate. The downside of such a menu is that the individual dishes don't quite add up. When you normally build a menu, you consider the buildup of flavor and depth. For example, our fourth course was smoked eel with a glass of Sauternes. A flavor bomb, delicious, but a bit much for the ladies. The portion of eel was also generous; one instead of three would have been enough. Wagyu, personally overrated for me, often a bit too high in fat, and the texture doesn't really remind me of meat anymore. But that might just be me. That doesn't change the fact that we thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes; there were some real gems among them. Instead of wine pairings, we opted for a glass of champagne beforehand, followed by a bottle of Condrieu with the first courses, followed by a bottle of CS from California. It's a bit more relaxed, and we really enjoyed it. I couldn't resist a glass of Graham's port. The service was flawless, as you might expect. The candy cart is also a nice change of pace, so yes, if you can afford it, go for it.

Because of that, it might not have been the best fit for me personally. That said, the atmosphere was refined, the service attentive, and sharing the evening with great company made it an enjoyable experience overall. In my view, however, the restaurant may be slightly overrated compared to the expectations set by its Michelin status.

Friends often recommended it to me, and now I took the opportunity to have a lavish dinner with two friends. I made it very clear when making my reservation and arriving that I was pregnant, but this wasn't a problem. The explanation at the table was always excellent, and the food—and even the non-alcoholic bubbly—was exquisite. A major drawback, and actually unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber, was the fact that I was supposed to get a spoom with ginger, while my friends got a champagne spoom. After a bite or two, I thought, "Hmm, this one turned out really well for a non-alcoholic version." Until my friend said, "Mine really tastes like ginger," and I said, "Huh, mine doesn't taste like that at all?" And then we realized they'd given us both the wrong ones. The colleague in question didn't come to our table to apologize, but another colleague came to tell us that there had indeed been a mistake. I would have found it more elegant if the colleague had come to our table herself. Normally, it might not be a big deal to have a few drinks or sips of alcohol when you're pregnant, but given my history with fertility and my extreme caution in announcing it several times beforehand, this had a huge impact on our evening. My friends were given a glass of wine on the house as compensation (it was also quite strange that they were offered something while I was the one who suffered), but oh well, that was polite. All in all, it wasn't a great experience for me, unfortunately, although the team was otherwise very friendly.

The ambience was great , sommelier stood out because of his personality and his service , the rest of the service was ok as the explanations of the food was not as explicit as other Michelin star restaurants I have been. The portions were really small , the bread , butter and the sauce was plain to be honest . For me this was one Michelin experience but not 2, I have been to better 2 star restaurants but this one didn’t do the cut for me somehow, however the food was still good, just didn’t meet the expectations of the 2 star. The red wine could have been a bit better I think , as compared to the other ones.

I was in Amsterdam for 2 days, and I wanted to spend my last night dining here because of its quality reputation and lake locale outside of the city. Chef Stefan Van Sprang guides you through the menu and continually checks on you. The restaurant has a very peaceful and relaxing vibe. The menu was quite diverse with the best curry sauce and eel I've ever had. The caramel tart dessert had no business being that good. The non-alcoholic wines and service were top notch. This is one of the top restaurants in The Netherlands. Such culinary artistry 🎨👨‍🍳🤤

We had a wonderful and surprising evening at Aan de Poel. After a warm welcome and an aperitif, we were immediately taken on a culinary journey. Delicious dishes, including a fantastic tartare with caviar and langoustine. With a wide selection of wines, the evening flew by.

Very good restaurant, the food was totally amazing! Loved the amuses and all the courses we had! Someone in the group had a shellfish allergy and the restaurant vhanged the courses for this person and still were amazing. We did call ahead for the allergy though. The allergy might have mixed a little as there was a small allergy reaction but nothing serious. The service was a little behind, food served without wine filled 2 times some interruptions during the speech. Overall great experience with every dish being amazing and really a small art piece. Just the service that could improve a little.

Fantastic food, but mediocre service, and a poor ending to the lunch. The reception was poor; no one greeted me in a two-star restaurant. It then took 10 minutes before anyone even came to ask what I wanted to drink. All the dishes were of a very high standard, the kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine, and the quality and inventiveness are exceptional. However, around three o'clock, the staff visibly loses their enthusiasm, and one of the chefs is already on his phone on a couch inside. After that, it gets progressively worse, with tables being moved around loudly while at least six tables are still occupied. When we leave around five o'clock, we are stunned to see a large portion of the staff sitting on the floor and slouching in the hall. This was a disappointing experience, and certainly not worthy of a two-star rating.

Top experience at aan de Poel, all details are correct. The service is formal but courteous. The food divine. The chef walks through the place and chats with every table. You pay the main price but certainly compared to other 2-star restaurants this is a lot of value for money. An absolute must.

What a nice and quiet atmosphere, the food was good in taste. It could have been a bit more challenging for me. We chose a wine arrangement with it, but unfortunately our glasses were already empty before the food arrived. These glasses were also not refilled by themselves.

Went for lunch on a Friday. Opted for three courses, skipping the cheese dessert. Overall meal good quality though some dishes were a bit heavy on sauce/seasoning, leaving me feeling very thirsty. Beautiful presentations throughout. Main knock was around service. Fairly poor to be honest. Mistakes w refilling sparkling water w still and taking 15 minutes to remedy. Napkins and breadcrumbs not attended to. Clearly favored the tables next to us. Maybe because we aren't Dutch? Anyway, I assume no ill intent. I believe you can find warmer places around Amsterdam operating at a similar level. Places like Vinkeles and Jansz come to mind.

The best lunch we have ever had. If it were Dinner - I would say the same. The service here is a level above everything I have experienced. The staff is always there to help, answer questions, and hear your feedback. The chef is there to serve some of the dishes by himself. The scenery and atmosphere was a work of art on its own. We had a table were both seats turned towards the glass wall fronting the lake. We Watched the birds flying over, sometimes catching fish, with the high vegetation bending to the strong winds. And inside - a complete calm and warm atmosphere. The interior and the garden fronting the lake were really nice, we couldn't look at them enough. And the food- every single dish was beyond what we could imagine was possible to make with these ingredients. Top notch. I think the only thing that needs improvement is the coffee.

Absolutely astonishing experience. I have tried plenty of great restaurants and I highly recommend to live this experience. A beautiful wine selection. Some of the bites will remain engraved in my memory it is real art. The chief is really inspiring and his interventions were highlighting this moment. The place in terms of service and atmosphere lends itself perfectly to spending a total experience more than a meal.

Everything you'd expect from a Michelin Star restaurant. The staff, from the head chef to the sommelier to the servers, were all professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. The food was intentional and absolutely delicious. We did the signature menu (a tasting of the most popular dishes) and were not disappointed. Every component worked harmoniously to create a delicious bite. One (minor) criticism would be with the eel dish. It was called a "yakitori," but was neither served on a stick nor (as far as I could tell) wood-fired. It was still delicious, but a bit confusing. Again, a very minor criticism. As you might expect from any highly rated establishment, the meal was not cheap. For the two of us, the bill was around 600 euro. The majority of this was the meal itself, as the drinks were rather reasonably priced. All in all, if you're intent on treating yourself and others to a wonderful culinary evening, and cost is not a factor, I highly recommend Aan de Poel.

Terrible treatment of the staff. I came to the restaurant at 4pm for a coffee and wine with my wife. The restaurant was empty with only a few tables outside, but the staff refused to serve us claiming they were fully booked. People on the terrace also seemed to just enjoy the beautiful sunny weather with a glass of wine. But I think because we spoke English we were considered tourists... I am deeply disappointed and will not come back again, neither for lunch nor for dinner with my wife or family

Overall, the food was too salty. The service at this two-star Michelin restaurant did not live up to its rating. I had the wine pairing, but for two of the wines, the staff simply poured them without any introduction. The best dish was the refreshing peach amuse.

My mother, sister and I had lunch here last Friday. We received a surprisingly friendly welcome, and my car was parked for me. We started with a delicious glass of Champagne. My sister and I chose the vegetarian menu. I now know what is meant by the term “flavor explosion”! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were well looked after and we lacked nothing! What an incredibly nice afternoon we had today at Aan de Poel. The service was smooth, knowledgeable and attentive and there was enough time and peace to have a nice chat with them. It was also nice that the chef leisurely visited all the tables to introduce himself and start a conversation: proof of an organization in the kitchen. Delicious appetizers, preparations of crustaceans, scallops, Texel lamb, cheeses, a nice fresh dessert and then good coffee with tasty chocolates and other goodies. Beautiful white Vouvray and delicious Pinot Noir. The valet parking is handy and don't forget to walk into the Amsterdam forest after your meal. What a great experience, thanks Aan de Poel. We will definitely come back!

The dish was served on an impressive, organically shaped plate that resembled a raw stone—an aesthetic masterpiece in itself. Next, we enjoyed a delicate langoustine, topped with crispy Dutch shrimp, adding a perfect contrast in texture. This was followed by a dish featuring turbot, cooked to perfection, with flavors that were both refined and well-balanced. The main course was a highlight—a combination of a small shot glass filled with a rich and flavorful soup, paired with crispy-skinned guinea fowl, elegantly finished with freshly shaved truffle. The depth of flavors in this dish was remarkable, making it a true standout of the evening. Moving into desserts, the first sweet course featured a champagne mousse topped with a delightful sweet treat, offering a perfect balance between lightness and indulgence. My girlfriend and I share a hobby: visiting European restaurants from the Michelin guide. Last week we were at Aan de Poel. What a party. The dishes were beautiful and the combinations with the wines truly sublime. The yakitori eel was our favorite. We had a wonderful evening. An embarrassing situation arose for my girlfriend when she choked just before we left. The staff acted very kindly and discreetly.

Absolutely fantastic food!!! I have never eaten in a restaurant like this, the explosion of flavours and textures in every bite is surreal, the presentation of the dishes is like a work of art. They have an infinite variety of wines. The service of the staff is excellent, they take care of every detail, the restaurant has a sober but warm and contemporary atmosphere. Coming to eat here is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their life.

Yesterday I stood with my then-future wife and family at the jetty at the restaurant to take wedding photos. There was quite a wind, which made it very cold. So we stood out of the wind, in front of the restaurant. Then suddenly a valet driver in a guest's BMW drove towards us at high speed, in reverse. The bride (now my wife) had to quickly jump out of the way to avoid being hit and it was close, but the car stopped just in front of her grandmother in her wheelchair, who of course could not have moved out of the way. She had to recover from the shock for another half hour. The valet driver got out and shouted (with a very unfriendly and aggressive undertone) that we were not allowed to be there and that we had to go to the jetty. Why not just ask in a friendly way first? When we asked that, we got the answer: "this is how we work!". For a restaurant with this reputation, I don't understand how you can treat people like this. Especially on what should be a festive day for us. I would have liked to eat here once, but I'm deciding against that now.

What a fantastic time I had! Each dish bursted with lively colors and flavors. The wine selection was spot on, and the lovely ambiance just tied everything together perfectly.

Uitstekende lunch locatie - het begint al bij aankomst - valid parking - daarna een vriendelijke ontvangst die je naar je tafel begeleid. Nadat de chef het menu komt voorstellen ( nog nooit teleurgesteld) kan het feest beginnen. Ieder gerecht is als een schilderij, smakelijk en rijkelijk en dan vergezeld van bijbehorende wijnen, en dat alles uitgeserveerd door vriendelijke en correcte bediening - blijer kun je mij niet maken. Zeker een aanrader.

Was really surprised to find bullet in my meat, which could break my teeth or be swallowed ….. and they just apologized and said “we should have WARNED YOU” , so I guess it’s normal to leave so much money and have some metal bullets in your meat

Extraordinary experience, excellent service, food presentation and flavors. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice, they have a terrace with a lake view and once dinner courses start will be seated inside.

Solid 2 michellin star tasting menu. Visiting every time I'm in town, never disappointing.

Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location on an enchanted lake. The food and matching wines are of an unprecedented high standard, excellent. We have been coming there for years at the invitation of the late Pietro and will continue this tradition of enjoying all the beauty there at least once a year and thus keeping the memories alive. One of the best restaurants in the Netherlands, you simply have to do it!

This was the peak of two weeks of eating at other Michelin-starred and rated restaurants in Netherlands and Denmark. Every course and amusement-bouche from the chef’s seasonal menu was outstanding. Our waiter was outstanding (Indonesian fellow with glasses) and made time to converse briefly on a few our prior experiences. He had eaten this year at many of the restaurants we had visited. This allowed him to offer us deeper understanding of the food scene in Northern Europe and better appreciate our meal that evening. The clientele was mostly couples with about a third of the tables for business groups. Would strongly recommend to others. The 30 euro Uber each way from central Amsterdam was worth it. It was way to get a ride back.

Echt een geweldige belevenis in een prachtige ambiance. Elk van de 7 gerechten (signature menu)een wow effect. Fijne bediening en de chef-kok kwam met veel passie voor zijn vak het menu toelichten.

Not 2 star We arrived at a small and completely full parking lot. There was a guy who let us in and said nothing. After some turning, we asked the guy. It turns out there was parking at the charging spots (which was blocked by an SUV parked over the 2 spots or we could drive up. Not the expected welcome for a 2-star place After entering the restaurant, the people were friendly and took our coats. Someone took us to our table. Despite the large group of servers it took some time to get informed about the menu. They seemed to push the experience menu which was twice the price of the menu posted on the website. After asking about this I t was also possible to order the chefs menu. Nothing mentioned about the possibility of wines which each course. There was a wine menu. It were countless pages in some cheap plastic. Only 1 (!!) red wine per glass and 2 (!) white ones. The bottles were only from the old countries and really nothing special (expect from a few bottles) The prices however were staggering. The nice thing was the chef coming over to explain the menu and also sometimes during the meals. The food was great though. Overall not 2 Michelin star experience. Very disappointing. Our children had given me a voucher for this restaurant for 300 Euro for my 65th birthday. We went to this restaurant with 2 Michelin stars for dinner with positive expectations. However, 300 euros turned out not to be enough for 2 people. 364 euros for 4 courses, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water. That's quite a lot!! But the place was full and apparently there are still enough people who can easily afford this. You have to walk a short distance from a parking lot and the door will not be opened for you. We were taken to our table and a girl serving, who looked a bit angry and disinterested, loudly barked the options across the table. Boy, that scared us. According to her, the most chosen menu was the 7-course signature menu, but we didn't feel like that. The Chef came to our table to explain everything, she then barked. That took a while, so we went through the map. The sommelier asked if we wanted an aperitif and we opted for two glasses of white 'house wine'(?) at 7.50 per glass, which turned out to be a tasteless Languedoc wine. The map is quite simple. In addition to the 7-course signature menu (small card on the table), you can choose a 4-course or 5-course menu and there are a number of choices ''a la carte'', which changes every so often, according to the chef who tells us everything. kindly came to the table to explain (The barking girl had already informed us that 5 courses was very normal and when I asked whether 4 courses were also possible (it was on the menu), the answer was curt, that is also possible.) We opted for the 5 course menu with fish and poultry (quail, which was quite salty, but the Chef had warned us about that) for 159 Euro. A nice bottle of rosé seemed like a good fit, but there was no 2023 vintage on the menu, only older. It was in another store, the sommelier explained (?????????). And very little rosé was drunk during this period (end of September). Strange that a table next to us was served a glass of rosé. The appetizers were on the table in no time. Fortunately, we noticed that the tiny clothespin on two appetizers was not for eating. I would warn against that. Would we like a bottle of water on the table? Yes, flat. It is striking that the service continuously replenishes/places and pours the bottles of water everywhere without any questions. The water is actually sloshed into the glasses. The prices on the wine list are extremely high. We were really shocked by that. A bottle of white Austrian wine, for example, will not cost less than 100 euros. We opted for a white Crozes Hermitage, which I thought cost 69 euros. Delicious wine, but later it turned out to cost 99 euros (when the bill came). Another friendly girl served us. A bottle of water was also brought to our table without asking, while our glasses were still full. We refused, because I am very annoyed by this revenue model. The dishes are beautiful and delicious! We decided not to have dessert and asked for the bill. Unfortunately, our voucher was not settled, but a 100 Euro deposit was paid. So I complained and walked to the cash register. Everything was corrected there. I asked the friendly girl (probably a manager) why the water was replenished without asking. That is our service. But service is free and not 7 euros per bottle. Peculiar. After that there was no more attention for us and we left the building. All in all an interesting evening, delicious food. We were surprised by the enormous amount of staff, especially in the kitchen. Apparently it is no problem to find staff here.
