I was in Amsterdam for 2 days, and I wanted to spend my last night dining here because of its quality reputation and lake locale outside of the city. Chef Stefan Van Sprang guides you through the menu and continually checks on you. The restaurant has a very peaceful and relaxing vibe. The menu was quite diverse with the best curry sauce and eel I've ever had. The caramel tart dessert had no business being that good. The non-alcoholic wines and service were top notch. This is one of the top restaurants in The Netherlands. Such culinary artistry 🎨👨‍🍳🤤

Culinary delights by the water Restaurant Aan de Poel in Amstelveen offers the perfect combination of refined food, a beautiful ambiance, and exceptional hospitality. From the moment you step inside, you'll feel welcome, with a team that pampers you. The food is simply top-notch; every dish is a taste sensation and a feast for the eyes. And a special high five for the sommelier, whose wine selection elevates the dishes to an even higher level. Aan de Poel is an experience not to be missed. Very good restaurant, the food was totally amazing! Loved the amuses and all the courses we had! Someone in the group had a shellfish allergy and the restaurant vhanged the courses for this person and still were amazing. We did call ahead for the allergy though. The allergy might have mixed a little as there was a small allergy reaction but nothing serious. The service was a little behind, food served without wine filled 2 times some interruptions during the speech. Overall great experience with every dish being amazing and really a small art piece. Just the service that could improve a little.

Fantastic food, but mediocre service, and a poor ending to the lunch. The reception was poor; no one greeted me in a two-star restaurant. It then took 10 minutes before anyone even came to ask what I wanted to drink. All the dishes were of a very high standard, the kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine, and the quality and inventiveness are exceptional. However, around three o'clock, the staff visibly loses their enthusiasm, and one of the chefs is already on his phone on a couch inside. After that, it gets progressively worse, with tables being moved around loudly while at least six tables are still occupied. When we leave around five o'clock, we are stunned to see a large portion of the staff sitting on the floor and slouching in the hall. This was a disappointing experience, and certainly not worthy of a two-star rating.

Went for lunch on a Friday. Opted for three courses, skipping the cheese dessert. Overall meal good quality though some dishes were a bit heavy on sauce/seasoning, leaving me feeling very thirsty. Beautiful presentations throughout. Main knock was around service. Fairly poor to be honest. Mistakes w refilling sparkling water w still and taking 15 minutes to remedy. Napkins and breadcrumbs not attended to. Clearly favored the tables next to us. Maybe because we aren't Dutch? Anyway, I assume no ill intent. I believe you can find warmer places around Amsterdam operating at a similar level. Places like Vinkeles and Jansz come to mind.

The best lunch we have ever had. If it were Dinner - I would say the same. The service here is a level above everything I have experienced. The staff is always there to help, answer questions, and hear your feedback. The chef is there to serve some of the dishes by himself. The scenery and atmosphere was a work of art on its own. We had a table were both seats turned towards the glass wall fronting the lake. We Watched the birds flying over, sometimes catching fish, with the high vegetation bending to the strong winds. And inside - a complete calm and warm atmosphere. The interior and the garden fronting the lake were really nice, we couldn't look at them enough. And the food- every single dish was beyond what we could imagine was possible to make with these ingredients. Top notch. I think the only thing that needs improvement is the coffee.

Everything you'd expect from a Michelin Star restaurant. The staff, from the head chef to the sommelier to the servers, were all professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. The food was intentional and absolutely delicious. We did the signature menu (a tasting of the most popular dishes) and were not disappointed. Every component worked harmoniously to create a delicious bite. One (minor) criticism would be with the eel dish. It was called a "yakitori," but was neither served on a stick nor (as far as I could tell) wood-fired. It was still delicious, but a bit confusing. Again, a very minor criticism. As you might expect from any highly rated establishment, the meal was not cheap. For the two of us, the bill was around 600 euro. The majority of this was the meal itself, as the drinks were rather reasonably priced. All in all, if you're intent on treating yourself and others to a wonderful culinary evening, and cost is not a factor, I highly recommend Aan de Poel.

A Culinary Masterpiece at Aan de Poel Dining at Aan de Poel in Amstelveen was an extraordinary experience that combined impeccable service, artistic presentation, and outstanding flavors. From the moment we arrived, we were treated to an unforgettable culinary journey, starting with a series of amuses that, while not pictured, were absolutely delightful and set the tone for the evening. We were having dinner in their private wine chamber with a small group. The first course was a beautifully presented piece of se-naka from bluefin tuna, complemented by the natural sweetness of red beet. The dish was served on an impressive, organically shaped plate that resembled a raw stone—an aesthetic masterpiece in itself. Next, we enjoyed a delicate langoustine, topped with crispy Dutch shrimp, adding a perfect contrast in texture. This was followed by a dish featuring turbot, cooked to perfection, with flavors that were both refined and well-balanced. The main course was a highlight—a combination of a small shot glass filled with a rich and flavorful soup, paired with crispy-skinned guinea fowl, elegantly finished with freshly shaved truffle. The depth of flavors in this dish was remarkable, making it a true standout of the evening. Moving into desserts, the first sweet course featured a champagne mousse topped with a delightful sweet treat, offering a perfect balance between lightness and indulgence. The final dessert was a playful and innovative trio: a refreshing ice cream, a crisp taco with the nostalgic effect of popping candy, and a visually stunning meringue, meticulously decorated to perfection. To conclude this incredible experience, we were served coffee accompanied by an exquisite selection of petit fours, including a Portuguese pastel de nata, rich fudge, and a chocolate-lemon curd combination, each piece carefully crafted and bursting with flavor. From start to finish, Aan de Poel delivered a flawless dining experience. The ambiance was elegant yet welcoming, the wine pairings were expertly chosen, and the staff’s passion for gastronomy was evident in every dish.

Yesterday I stood with my then-future wife and family at the jetty at the restaurant to take wedding photos. There was quite a wind, which made it very cold. So we stood out of the wind, in front of the restaurant. Then suddenly a valet driver in a guest's BMW drove towards us at high speed, in reverse. The bride (now my wife) had to quickly jump out of the way to avoid being hit and it was close, but the car stopped just in front of her grandmother in her wheelchair, who of course could not have moved out of the way. She had to recover from the shock for another half hour. The valet driver got out and shouted (with a very unfriendly and aggressive undertone) that we were not allowed to be there and that we had to go to the jetty. Why not just ask in a friendly way first? When we asked that, we got the answer: "this is how we work!". For a restaurant with this reputation, I don't understand how you can treat people like this. Especially on what should be a festive day for us. I would have liked to eat here once, but I'm deciding against that now.

This was the peak of two weeks of eating at other Michelin-starred and rated restaurants in Netherlands and Denmark. Every course and amusement-bouche from the chef’s seasonal menu was outstanding. Our waiter was outstanding (Indonesian fellow with glasses) and made time to converse briefly on a few our prior experiences. He had eaten this year at many of the restaurants we had visited. This allowed him to offer us deeper understanding of the food scene in Northern Europe and better appreciate our meal that evening. The clientele was mostly couples with about a third of the tables for business groups. Would strongly recommend to others. The 30 euro Uber each way from central Amsterdam was worth it. It was way to get a ride back.

It turns out there was parking at the charging spots (which was blocked by an SUV parked over the 2 spots or we could drive up. Not the expected welcome for a 2-star place After entering the restaurant, the people were friendly and took our coats. Someone took us to our table. Despite the large group of servers it took some time to get informed about the menu. They seemed to push the experience menu which was twice the price of the menu posted on the website. After asking about this I t was also possible to order the chefs menu. Nothing mentioned about the possibility of wines which each course. There was a wine menu. It were countless pages in some cheap plastic. Only 1 (!!) red wine per glass and 2 (!) white ones. The bottles were only from the old countries and really nothing special (expect from a few bottles) The prices however were staggering. The nice thing was the chef coming over to explain the menu and also sometimes during the meals. The food was great though. Overall not 2 Michelin star experience. Very disappointing. The good • Very good food, very nice presentation • The Chef coming to the table multiple times The Bad • No accompanying wines possible • Only 1 red wine by the glass and also a standard one • NO WOW factor • Although good service by the staff it was somewhat scripted

Our children had given me a voucher for this restaurant for 300 Euro for my 65th birthday. We went to this restaurant with 2 Michelin stars for dinner with positive expectations. However, 300 euros turned out not to be enough for 2 people. 364 euros for 4 courses, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water. That's quite a lot!! But the place was full and apparently there are still enough people who can easily afford this. You have to walk a short distance from a parking lot and the door will not be opened for you. We were taken to our table and a girl serving, who looked a bit angry and disinterested, loudly barked the options across the table. Boy, that scared us. According to her, the most chosen menu was the 7-course signature menu, but we didn't feel like that. The Chef came to our table to explain everything, she then barked. That took a while, so we went through the map. The sommelier asked if we wanted an aperitif and we opted for two glasses of white 'house wine'(?) at 7.50 per glass, which turned out to be a tasteless Languedoc wine. The map is quite simple. In addition to the 7-course signature menu (small card on the table), you can choose a 4-course or 5-course menu and there are a number of choices ''a la carte'', which changes every so often, according to the chef who tells us everything. kindly came to the table to explain (The barking girl had already informed us that 5 courses was very normal and when I asked whether 4 courses were also possible (it was on the menu), the answer was curt, that is also possible.) We opted for the 5 course menu with fish and poultry (quail, which was quite salty, but the Chef had warned us about that) for 159 Euro. A nice bottle of rosé seemed like a good fit, but there was no 2023 vintage on the menu, only older. It was in another store, the sommelier explained (?????????). And very little rosé was drunk during this period (end of September). Strange that a table next to us was served a glass of rosé. The appetizers were on the table in no time. Fortunately, we noticed that the tiny clothespin on two appetizers was not for eating. I would warn against that. Would we like a bottle of water on the table? Yes, flat. It is striking that the service continuously replenishes/places and pours the bottles of water everywhere without any questions. The water is actually sloshed into the glasses. The prices on the wine list are extremely high. We were really shocked by that. A bottle of white Austrian wine, for example, will not cost less than 100 euros. We opted for a white Crozes Hermitage, which I thought cost 69 euros. Delicious wine, but later it turned out to cost 99 euros (when the bill came). Another friendly girl served us. A bottle of water was also brought to our table without asking, while our glasses were still full. We refused, because I am very annoyed by this revenue model. The dishes are beautiful and delicious! We decided not to have dessert and asked for the bill. Unfortunately, our voucher was not settled, but a 100 Euro deposit was paid. So I complained and walked to the cash register. Everything was corrected there. I asked the friendly girl (probably a manager) why the water was replenished without asking. That is our service. But service is free and not 7 euros per bottle. Peculiar. After that there was no more attention for us and we left the building. All in all an interesting evening, delicious food. We were surprised by the enormous amount of staff, especially in the kitchen. Apparently it is no problem to find staff here.

We have been there a few years ago for the first time, but they are more and more concentrating on business people who have less problems with the bill. That is why they are closed in the weekends. We were enthusiastic about the first time, but this time we did not meet either the chef or owner. Most important is the quality of the food, but this time it did not at all meet the expectations of a 2-star restaurant. It is not very costly, but to keep on pouring the water bottles without asking is far from correct. The wine card shows fantastic bottles, but hardly bottles below 100 euro’s!? Even with their high mark-ups, one can find good quality bootles far below 100 Euro’s. All in all, when the bill is not paid by the superior, don’t go there. For us, we delete this restaurant from our wish list, as similar restaurants with only 1 star could be easily found at far lower prices.

5 sterren!

Amazing dishes by the chefs and the waiters were nice. Unfortunately, we left the restaurant with a bitter taste. At the end, we received the incorrect bill. If we were not careful to spot this, we had to pay almost double the amount. Also, at very beginning we selected the 4 course menu, but we later realised that they made a mistake and served us and charged for the 5 course menu.

Recommend! Restaurant “Aan de Poel” is located conveniently off the highway in Amstelveen. After a warm welcome when you enter, staff is there to guide you to your table/ the terrace. Both are overlooking the lake and offer an incredible view Dining room. The room is comfortably decorated, with dark colored walls, high ceilings and thick curtains, color elements being the various plants and flowers. The seats (with armrests) are comfortable, and the table is nicely set up, with delicately thin wine glasses. Privacy-wise, the dining tables seem to be quite close together. Depending on your table, you are sitting rather close to your fellow diners (50 cm to 1m at certain tables). There is a large amount of tables in the restaurant, making it noisy. For a restaurant of this rating, more privacy would be expected? The food. The food is a-ma-zing. We had the signature menu. After getting seated and enjoying some treats, chef Stefan came to personally introduce himself along with the menu. Though perhaps small a gesture, personally i absolutely love this and it definitely improves the experience. Chef personally takes note of requests/allergies/etc, making us feel confident in our choices. All requests perfectly followed up at the table and throughout service, chapeau! Fantastically fresh fish and other ingredients, a true treat. Recommend: the Lobster & sauce, incredible. The Wagyu, especially the slow cooked parts, wow. Hats off to kitchen staff! Service. Overall service is good. Credits to the staff for kindness. Service was quick and efficient, especially early in the evening. Staff is really helping you to enjoy the evening. However, later in the evening, it became more “quiet” in regards to staff, up to a point where i found myself looking around before being able to get their attention. This was unexpected for a 2 star restaurant. These are details of course. Overall, we had an amazing experience visiting restaurant “Aan de Poel”. Credits for the Chef, Menu / Food was simply superb in quality. Though some minor feedback, I would recommend this restaurant. Please note, the photos do not do the dishes justice

We enjoyed lunch here, thanks to a gift card from former colleagues. The servers are very meticulous, from arrival to departure, including the valet parking. We had a dietary restriction (pregnancy) which was taken into account at all times: the adjusted menu was perfect! As well as the wine (?) pairing, with some beautiful ciders that were gradually built up during the dinner. This truly completed our experience and has inspired us to try those more often. Although I would've liked to hear about and possibly try the additions to the menu, we were never offered any.

Lack of attention? We visited on Friday 16/8, booking made for 2 at 7pm. After enjoying the beautiful view (see picture) we struggled, although by foot, to make our way through the stairs to the reception as it was blocked by parked cars. Talk about a a missed entrance. From there on I spend the evening being struck by the lack of attention to service and details, bad signs for a 2 Michelin Stars... We were seated facing the entrance of the restaurant, our backs to the view, not having been left with a choice between the multiple tables for 2 that were then empty. I find this strange in a way. From the 2 menus we picked up the seasonal one, a great value for money 5 courses including fishes and meat (€170pp), and did not go for the "all time favourite" menu of 7 courses, way too loaded in meat and slightly prohibitive in price in my view. Food was very good. Not great. Very good. I missed the genuine creativity of combined tastes and textures, the continuity in the menu and attention to the last detail (e.g. orientation of the plate). We absconded from the slightly forced-upon-us wine pairing - diving in the wine list I went into shock really: the wine card suffers some issues... firstly it is overpriced, with wines we would normally expect around the €90-100 mark being at €125 and plus - someone here knows where to make the extra buck but this is slightly indecent. Secondly, upon requesting the Vaqueyras 2018, the sommelier gave us some confusing explanations that the last bottle was served the day before. When I commented that in that case the wine should have been stricken from the list, the sommelier then offered another year of the same producer "but it is my last bottle"... We settled for the 2022 (not that we had a choice) which is a mostly average year vs. 2018. I guess at €69 (the only bottle in the 2 digit range) this is not a great multiplicator for them. Casing point! Thirdly, whilst the wine card has a good selection of Californians, SF and NZ wines, absolutely no representation from South-America. Let me go back to the car that was parked blocking the drive way and reception entrance. The new sport car buy from a guest, invited to the dinner by his car dealer... early dinner the full restaurant went silent when they started revving the engine of the gift outside. Why oh why...? Service was about ok although we could never identify our host, nor the maitre d'hotel... end of dinner some confusion around coffee tea and pre-deserts with two identical request in 2 minutes by different members of the staff... l guess that could happen? But no, it shouldn't. Talk about perception but I found the service to be stressed and not working in harmony... not a lot of smiles on the faces. Maybe it was one of "these" evenings? All courses were introduced to us by the kitchen staff. Some taking a lot of pride in their creation, some less. Speaking English or Dutch, depending on them, vaguely inconsistent though: either you identified us speaking English or Dutch, but please ensure this is passed on within the staff? All in all an okay experience, but it could have been so much better - maybe next time!

Do not get me wrong. It was delicious food in a beautiful location. But to be honest, we expected more from a restaurant with two Michelin stars. The price-quality ratio was therefore not in balance as far as we were concerned. The dishes were tasty but not very innovative. Intuitively safe choices and no surprising combinations of flavors. The service was ok, but no more than that. They felt somewhat 'understaffed', which meant that they were sometimes late with the wine or too early. We had to ask for an extra sandwich. It's more about the details, but that's exactly why we go to such a restaurant with such prices. All in all, we expected more and were not positively surprised in any respect.

We had a mixed experience at Aan de Poel. Some of the food was great, and some was flavorless. The service was the weakest part of the experience, especially for a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars. Overall: Skip this place, there are plenty of better restaurants in Amsterdam. Note: Due to Google review character limits, I had to cut the nice things I wrote about this place. When we arrived, I found a hair on the tablecloth. Not a catastrophe, but not good - they place utensils directly on the tablecloth, so it's kind of gross. A server came to ask us if we wanted any cocktails, and we asked twice for a drinks menu, but she just said they can make any drink we want and never brought us a menu. The Head Chef came out to describe the available dinner menus to us, and he was delightful. He must do this 10-15 times every night, and he was still enthusiastic and obviously passionate about the food. The pre-amuse bites were great, if a little too salty. The amuse was pureed peas, and it was beautiful, but the texture was mealy and unappealing. The first course was a delicious crab and octopus in a citrus sauce. My husband found a piece of crab shell in his. Then langoustine with mushrooms in a brothy sauce poured warm at the table. The langoustine was served on a cold plate. As the sauce cooled, it congealed into an unfortunate lumpy jello-looking texture, like the color and texture of snot. Next was a spear of white asparagus with fish and caviar on top served in a smoked butter sauce. The fish and caviar contributed little flavor, but the asparagus itself was divine. The main course was lamb in a red wine jus with grilled leek, tomato salsa, and a mini tomato stuffed with a bundle of raw veggies. Nothing on this plate belonged in this restaurant. Most dishes served up to now had a bit too much salt, but I had to sprinkle salt on this meat to make it edible. It was also hard to cut and not served with a steak knife. The sauce tasted like nothing. The pre-dessert sorbet was very good, as was the raspberry and yuzu dessert. There were no additional sweet bites or goodie bags to take home, which was strange. Now for the worst part of our meal, payment. A server approached with the bill and told us service was not included in the total and would we like to tip. We were surprised, as Europe generally has service included at all restaurants. We expressed our surprise and asked how much is typically expected. She said 10%. So we just paid it. But were we swindled? According to Dutch people, the Netherlands has a very anti-tip culture, and tipping is not expected at any restaurant, including fine dining establishments. Never in my entire life have I experienced a server ASKING me to tip, not at high end places or holes in the wall, nowhere. We assume the server noted that we're American and went in for the kill, knowing we tip automatically back home and would feel compelled to do so here. She was right. To top it off, the service was the worst part of the evening. First the drinks menu thing. Then for the first half of the meal, no one scraped breadcrumbs from the table. This usually happens between every course at such restaurants, at least the ones that serve crusty bread. Halfway through the meal, they scraped crumbs from my husband's side but not from mine, which was equally messy. When they finally scraped crumbs from my side near the end of the meal, the server left the hair. She saw it but ignored it. Our water wasn't kept topped off, often getting to empty before someone would come by to refill. I debated sliding the bottle closer so I could just do it myself. When we left the table to use the restroom, no one came to fold our napkins and straighten our chairs. These wouldn't be issues at a normal restaurant (except the hair - eww), but here? With this service, how did they even get 2 stars? This level of service wasn't worth tipping at all. And no one working at a 2 Michelin star restaurant in any country should be asking patrons for tips.

The chef comes to say hello and talk about the menu choice for the evening, leaving a very pleasant impression. The waiters tried to quickly talk about the dish in memorized patter and run away, which left a feeling of haste and fuss, but we came to have a good time, we were in no hurry. The bread was burnt, which was an unpleasant surprise. The sauce in the vegetable appetizers was incredibly vinegary. Two sorts of meat and langoustine and their sauces were just impeccable. The asparagus pleasantly surprised me with its cookedness, softness and unusual taste due to boiling in an unusual seafood broth. The bread crumbs were lying on the table for 3-4 courses, only after they were removed from the spotless white starched tablecloth. The interior is quite simple without sophisticated beautiful details. There was only 1 pouf for 2 handbags. The pouf was an awkward shape. Handbags rolled off it and fell to the floor several times. By the end of the evening the restaurant was full. The service at the reception was good, a nice girl gives you your coat and helps you put it on, which is unusual. The bill was 180 euros without alcohol for a menu of 5 courses and 2 desserts. The dishes are very small, the fact that there were 7 of them is equivalent in weight to 1-2 dishes in an ordinary unpretentious restaurant. Overall, expectations were higher for this place than what actually turned out to be. I won't go there a second time.

Beautiful setting near the water, in a spacious, elegant, and comfortable dining room, with a service that is both impeccable and personable. The menu is interesting through-and-through, well balanced, sophisticated, and subtle, with innovative takes on seasonal products. The execution is bordering perfection, both technically exceptional, and creatively genius. The whole is complemented by an extensive wine list, including an incredibly large and diverse selection by the glass, and a very good balance between established winemakers, and rising stars. I have dined in a handful of 3-Michelin-star restaurants that cannot compete with Aan de Poel. So, the 2 Michelin stars are solidly deserved, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 3rd star in the not-too-distant future.

We ordered a few things to share: the Pahari Chicken, Butter Paneer Masala, and Masala Chap. Each dish was a knockout. The chicken was unbelievably tender, and the paneer and chap were so rich and flavorful they literally melted in my mouth. It's clear that Chef Sachin has some kind of magic in his hands. Every bite was an explosion of flavor and left me wanting more. Beyond the amazing food, the experience was made even better by the staff.
