This is our favourite restaurant in Amsterdam! The food is always impeccable, the service is fantastic and the owners are so welcoming and go above & beyond. It’s small, intimate and the food (from the bread to the pasta) is all made fresh there every day, plus all ingredients are organic and sourced locally or from specific Italian regions, which is what makes them so delicious. We’re so sorry to hear they’re closing soon and we’re losing our fave local restaurant, but excited for their next chapter and everyone should go before they’re gone!

Reading the menu you would want to order everything and the dishes did not disappoint expectations. It is a refined tavern. Cuisine and environment that actually make you feel like you're in Veneto, which I really appreciated as a Vicenza native.

This review is overdue. I dined here in July. This is the best Italian restauraunt I have ever been to. When we arrived we were the only people in the restauraunt, which is crazy. This place should have a line down the street. The food was magical. The pasta was fresh and bouncy in texture. The ingredients were fresh and so thoughtfully chosen for each dish. There was no ingredient that overpowered the dish, and you could taste the way everything complemented each other. The service (who I believe was the owner) was welcoming, explained all the dishes, and was super attentive. There was also a language barrier and he was incredibly patient with us. We had the mushroom pasta, a special pasta with speck, and the chocolate cake for dessert. We returned after dinner the next night just for the cake and a glass of wine.

Very cute restaurant with excellent service. They were able to make the menu gluten free and even made a special pasta for my son that was not on the menu. The prices are a bit high but the food is really great. We will be back for sure!

A terrific experience in a small Italian restaurant. Great staff and great food. Since the primi are not very large i recommend getting a starter also. The mixed starter for two is an amazing collection of cheeses, meats, and vegetables and will be a highlight of any meal.

Amazing and authentic food. Not your basic Italian fare; dishes have thoughtful flavour and texture combinations and the restaurant has a daily menu with seasonal ingredients. The tiramisu was incredible.

Delicious steak, amazing service!

Excellent restaurant: food with excellent quality ingredients and with a lot of love (it's the first time I've eaten so well in an Italian restaurant abroad). The kitchen was "open": a challenge that very few restaurants are able to take on. The lady who welcomed us was very friendly and had really nice manners (you can immediately sense the passion with which she carries out her work). The atmosphere of the place was very pleasant. The price is absolutely in line with the quality provided. The only negative thing: having only discovered this place the evening before leaving!

An intimate, charming restaurant. Pasta and Risotto dishes are delicious, but the cold starters (beef and fish carpaccios) and the main dishes could be better.

I really don't understand why this one has such a high rating. The food is mediocre and really pricey, the latter is not a problem if it is worth it, but it is certainly not. It is once again clear that restaurants in Amsterdam make their money too easily

One of the best italian restaurants i‘ve ever been!

Delicious food! You could easily walk past it (the restaurant is a bit hidden on a stretch of Vijzelstraat that you usually cycle through), but what a treat to eat here. The house smoked swordfish carpaccio was delicious, as was the mix of antipasti. Main courses were good, I had a pasta with deer ragu. Tiramisu was fantastic, as was the chocolate mousse. The wine was good too. Service was friendly and Italian. A hidden gem!

Elegant Italian restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam, with a kind and welcoming staff. Tried it out for dinner, but was unfortunately disappointed with the food. We're Italian and the taste wasn't fully to our expectations, plus the portions were a bit on the small side. Started with some olives and bread with oil (offered by the house), both very tasty. Then moved to the off-menu parmigiana, which to our opinion was lacking a kick, followed by gnocchi with a cheesy sauce and a pasta with a fish sauce. The latter two were good, home made pasta cooked perfectly, but the sauces left us disappointed in their simplicity and plainness. Desserts, however, were delicious. The chocolate lava cake was absolutely stunning, one of the best I ever tried. With two glasses of wine and 2 bottles of water it was 100 euros, which we found on the expensive side. The restaurant though was full of people on a Tuesday night, so try it out to form your opinion!

I have been there yesterday with some colleagues. Amazing restaurant in a nice area, cozy atmosphere, food of incredibly high quality, owners/employees very kind and flexible to adjust to our last minute requests. Everyone in the kitchen and in the restaurant is Italian, which really made me feel like back home. Definitely going to come back, and will recommend others to go 10/10

The pasta Carbornara was perfectly made and flavored together with the wine. Then enjoyed the deer steak and for dessert of course tiramisu with a delicious dessert wine of course. And finally a delicious Italian espresso with limoncello. Very friendly staff with good knowledge. The quality was definitely worth the price. What a disappointment...the fave e cicoria was gone. Unfortunately, I have to go back. Fortunately, there was parmigiana di melanzane that takes me back to my summer holidays with family in Puglia. But the one from la mamma remains the tastiest 😉

Italian restaurant that celebrates 13 years of activity and maintains, although a little expensive, several strong points. The staff is very kind and welcomes you in a small environment reminiscent of Venetian taverns. the kitchen is open. The quality of the products starting from the oil and the preparation with "home" tricks are excellent. Weak points: small-medium portions. The white wines are acidic by the glass (however, being from Trentino, the judgment could be a little harsh).

Ate here on August 3. Ordered spaghetti pesto. Meal was almost tasteless and not very much either. People at the table behind me had the same experience and also reported it to the staff.

One of the best Italian restaurants I've been to in a very long time. Can't recommend it more. Try it, you won't be disappointed. We had the best plateau of Italian meats and cheeses, parmigiana, and all our pastas. The primitivo was delightful as well. Give it a try, you won't regret it

A fantastic meal - food was incredible and we didn’t feel rushed. Enjoyed the 3 course meal - food was fresh being made on location. Staff were very friendly.

A rare find in the old town of Amsterdam, this little restaurant is tucked away between old shops, if you don't look for the house number, you could not notice it. The chef and patron, Vezio, comes from Mestre, a little city a few km from Venice, you can find nice fish courses from that city in the menu. Last night we had as antipasto the carpaccio of home smoked sword fish and the carne salada, something in between beef carpaccio and bresaola, also home made. After that, we had the spaghetti alla carbonara di mare, home made pasta with a delicious, creamy, eggy, fishy sauce with prawns. No sweet dessert for us but some amazing cheese from the Alps of Friuli, the formadi frant in 3 different flavourings in it: apple, horseradish and the very traditional black pepper. We all loved the one with horseradish also because of the texture. Their wine list contains some very rare pearls. We (I, actually) choose the Spumante Metodo Classico Alta Langa "Leonardo", a millesimato 2019 by Piemontese producer Ferdinando Principiano. A very nice spumante, a good pairing from the antipasti to the cheese. Extra nice to know: Luca, the maitre, is a certified Italian sommelier and can tell everything about the wines and the pairing.

Came here with a large party. The service was wonderful. The pasta was amazing! Ravioli and the red sauce is scary to get some times. This was amazing! The filet in the wine sauce with carrots and potatoes was wonderful. I will struggle to find something that good in Indiana

We have been living for 10 years in Amsterdam and never heard about Al bacaro. What a shame! I found this restaurant by filtering on the best noted Italian restaurants in Amsterdam, and I have been delighted. From the mixed antipasti to the chocolate soufflé, with in-between spaghetti al tartuffo and meat tagliata, everything was delicious and authentic! The service, Italian way, was very friendly. certamente, a presto!

Really good food, unfortunately a poor service.. when you reserve a table you don’t need a waitress (long curly hair) to go shout on you. As my job as well I would never act like this. Your own problem need to stay private. Not respectful at all. Thank you to the two other nice waiters who had took care of us during our meal. I put a 5 stars two months ago… unfortunately a bad waiter can kill your crush. Amore ;)

Very disappointing food and wine were terrible and service very slow

Pasta was mediocre. Specialty sea bass was over cooked, and not fileted correctly. Took 50 minutes to get our order ready, although there where only 2 other tables at the restaurant.

It certainly reflects Italian cuisine: recommended. The place is quite small, narrow and popular, so booking is recommended. The food is good. We chose the three-course menu, with the chef's starters, a first course of your choice and a dessert. The bread and desserts are made exclusively by the kitchen and you can feel it. Definitely fair quality/price.

Being Italian, I was disappointed in the flavor of our pasta. My wife loves pesto and it was over powering. Needed a little salt. I had a seafood pasta and it was bland and had little seafood on the plate.

As an Italian, I can say that here you really eat Italian cuisine! The location is intimate and charming, it feels like being in a Venetian tavern. The staff is friendly and courteous, the quality of the food is excellent, as is the oil and the fish. I also recommend getting at least one of the desserts! Special thanks to Veronica and Maria Vittoria, they made the evening unforgettable.

Amazing restaurant with real authentic Italian disches where the ingredients are fresh and of very good quality! You can taste that there is a lot of passion! The people of Bacaro are always nice and attentive. The wines are great and paired very good by their sommelier. I always come here when I have something to celebrate and I am never dissapointed.
