Amstelhaven in Weesperzijde

Strange place… the location is fantastic, next to the water and very central. But… even for Amsterdam standards, the lack of service was a little ridiculous. They seem to be very understaffed. You have to order at the bar; the man who I assume is the owner was very grumpy to me and other customers. There was also a woman who appeared to be a friend/relation of the owners, who was either very drunk, high or both, acting quite peculiarly and walking into me whilst laughing as I stood waiting to be served. Disappointing as it has a lot of potential purely down to its location.

Very tasty snacks and a great selection of beers, but the bar owner is so disrespectful to his staff (and in my case, to the customers too...). It could get quite uncomfortable; I won't be back anytime soon.

This was the most strange and very impolite behaviour to mostly all guests I have experienced in my life . I think he was or the owner or the manager , he looked like Ali b only much older . He was making remarks to guests who just wanted to order some coffee, that was not possible he was to busy . Only alcoholic or canned juice . He started a discussion to a guest about his beer . He just dumped my wine on the table and spilled without refilling me . When I asked which wine he had he told me 1 the most expensive one . But he actually had house wine much cheaper as well . Some guest walked out because he was ignoring them . When I asked for menu he told me first now , then helping other guest . When they ask for some snacks like bitterballen he told them no and brought the menu finally to me , the other guest looked speechless. I was actually first . I was actually looking for a location for a business event , but after this experiment I will definitely . not . Also it was really dirty. This day was the second day of sail and a parade came bye the water . He was definitely not prepared also working alone .

Website says it’s open when it isn’t. Very poor!

Very rude staff ruin a great location by the canal

I don't often write a bad review. But this was really cringe-worthy. For context; it wasn't busy. And we had made a reservation. After taking a seat, we had to ask 3 times if the tables could be cleaned. Then we weren't offered a menu at all. We had to ask for it several times ourselves. After ordering drinks, which took a while, we ordered the main course. After 1 hour and 40 minutes we still had nothing! For 6 people... We weren't kept informed and asked several times what the status was. When I asked about this inside, I was referred to another colleague. In the end I ordered some snacks myself to improve my hunger and the atmosphere. The fact that you can moor your boat and the location is the only thing that would make me come back here. Fix your kitchen and customer service.

Always nice to stop there for coffee or a drink. Very friendly staff.

We had a reservation with a group of 7 people. We were delayed by 20 minutes but they still kept our table - that was very nice. But then there was only one food menu on the table, so i asked for more. The waitress told me that’s just how it is today - apparently they were more busy than usual and didn’t have enough menus. She brought over a second menu a minute later. When taking our order, she was asked what’s in the “Sate” that’s on the menu (my friend was visiting from abroad and didn’t know what it was) and she said fish - but sate in NL is famously a chicken dish. Her colleague walked past and corrected her saying it was chicken. We ordered and got our drinks and food - the wait time was fine, nothing to complain about. But halfway through a burger my boyfriend bit in a piece of plastic. I went to the server to tell them this, they took the plate away and immediately prepared a new burger. Other good things - location is amazing - burgers, satay, and sweet potato fries were tasty - wait time was not too long Other things that need improvement - my bf asked for sweet potato fries instead of regular fries with his burger and the waiter said this was ok but they just added an order of sweet potato fries instead of substituting it, this was not a big deal but not what they said during ordering. So we had an extra portion of regular fries that nobody really wanted - the regular fries were not very good - there is a smell of stale water on the terrace, probably due to the canal nearby so they might not be able to help it - staff was clearly overworked. Probably the warm weather brought an unexpected increase in business, but the end result was that we felt rushed and not listened to.

Super cosy but service was bad. It took an hour to get our drinks and had to ask multiple times after it. The karaf aperol spritz was very huge & good deal! Sangria wasn’t so good. Barely any fruit in it. But nice view!

Beautiful place, but too expensive for how horrible the service was. I waited more than an hour for a simple serving of fries.

This place used to be fantastic but we visited recently and it stunk with a very stale smell, the glasses were dirty and service took forever to get their attention. They also got our order wrong (missing some fries) and the chicken skewers were AWFUL! Super chewy and not appealing at all, when we complained about it the waiter said “ya we get that a lot but they are supposed to be like that”…

Sat on the terrace with colleagues after work. We wanted dinner. After having indicated several times that we wanted the menu and wanted to order, it took at least 30-45 minutes before our order could be taken. When it finally happened and someone appeared at our table, it was announced that the kitchen could not make anything at the moment because they were preparing for a large group. It would certainly take a while before we could order again. Which we found very disappointing because we had clearly indicated in advance that we wanted to order food.

Celebrated my birthday here with a group of about 45 people on a Friday evening in the indoor area. Good communication about the planning of the party and fast and friendly staff who thought along/worked well with the organization of the party and at the bar on the evening itself. In addition, a beautiful (and accessible) location with a nice terrace and a good-sounding sound system. Recommended!

Amstelhaven is a nice restaurant bar with a great atmosphere

Wow, what an amazing place. Friendly staff, good service and brilliant live music from Bring The Rhythm, definitely coming back. 😊

They only had one server for about 100 customers. It took half an hour to get one round of drinks, and over an hour to get someone to let us pay.

With a large group this is not the best place to go. Think with smaller groups. We had to try very hard to be served.

Even though I had made a reservation for 25 people, we were turned away because the business had a double booking for that day. So an agreement is not an agreement at Amstelhaven. So be careful before you make a reservation here for a large group. Contacting is also difficult... they just don't answer the phone In addition, the service is very slow... before you have a drink you are thrown out of the place. Or avoid this place.... there are much better locations in Amsterdam to organize a drink with a large group.

Saturday evening, beautiful weather. The terrace filled up. There was a large sign saying "order at the bar and pay immediately." There was still rubbish everywhere on the tables. The business was severely understaffed; 1 boy behind the bar and 1 person in the kitchen. After waiting in line at the bar for fifteen minutes, we left to have a bite to eat somewhere else. This looks more like a football canteen where you can quickly eat a burger after the match than a restaurant.

Visited two times 1) once seated waited 35’ just to order 2) we came back ! Waited TO BE SESTED 20’ and then they send the young waitress to tell us the bar didn’t accept clients anymore ! If you have time to loose and don’t wait for any excuses this place is yours …

No one to take me to a seat, had to go to the bar and asked to take a seat myself, dirty table and chairs, waited 10 mins no one even looked at me. Just got up and left

A very chill location to grab a drink or snack inside or right on the water, quite a peaceful location despite being next to one of the main roads, the service was good despite being a little short staffed and a very calm atmosphere.

The best time to moor at Amstelhaven? Around the golden hour, when the sun is low and the Amstel takes on a warm glow. Then the magic of this place really comes to life. On a sunny afternoon the terrace quickly fills up, so around four o'clock, just before the crowds, is perfect. This way you can relax, find a good table without haste and slowly make the transition from afternoon drinks to a long, sultry evening. And the wines? They fit perfectly with the relaxed atmosphere. A fresh Sauvignon Blanc for those who like it light and crisp, or a full-bodied Malbec if you fancy something stronger. For those who want summer in a glass, there is the rosé – soft, fruity, perfect for a snack board with charcuterie and olives. The glasses are generously filled, the view does the rest. So we moor, leave the buzz of the city behind us and step into a world where time and wine flow slowly. This is how an afternoon on the water should end.

I was there in NYE for a party. So i cannot review as if i was reviewing a bar hence i am giving it five stars as i had a great time on that night. Great spot, by the river pretty OK sound system. On that night the drinks (and (no)service) were direected at a younger crowd.

Deplorable waitress, takes 30 minutes to drink shooters with customers and when you say hello several times to get noticed to make an order she gets angry and refuses to serve you, simply unacceptable given the price of the evening and the location very dirty!!!

Cozy pub, nice location, friendly staff

We went here with a group of friends to have a beer. We came across the place by chance and the terrace looked really good. The location is great, by the water and near the metro at Weesperplein and other connections. Inside, we didn't think it looked exceptionally cosy but the terrace was very nice!

Nice place on the water with nice weather

We first sat outside, but it was chilly so we sat inside. That went wrong at first, but later it went well. There were several employees, but we got the impression that only 1 lady took the order and served the people. That's why it took quite a while before we received our orders. We got the impression that the lady and gentleman standing behind the bar were more for display than working. Despite the area for improvement in service, the food was very tasty. I had the burrito, which I definitely recommend.

Very beautiful and quiet place, but the service is incredibly slow.

We came from far away with my wife to eat here, suddenly they are closed 3 hours before closing and it says all the time on the website that it is open, while it is not even true. Really bad service. Not recommended

Please hire more staff. We went for lunch the other day, the place was full and there were only two people working. Food took +1 hour to arrive, and the waitress weren’t the happiest people, not even close. And although customer service in Netherlands is awful in general, this time I can’t blame them. The owner is 100% responsible. Summer is coming, two waitress for more than 50 people is not enough.

Super stressed staff and we had to wait for drinks and food for over an hour. Go somewhere else if you want to relax ☺️

Nice view of the water and comfortable chairs. Unfortunately, the service is a bit less. The young curly haired boy made strange jokes while serving and sometimes came out strangely with his comments. Would keep an eye on that.

As many places in Amsterdam is quite expenshive. The food is not particulary quality and the portions are small. Cesar Salad very small with few leaves trown in the plate from the plastic bag. I used to work in horeca and Cesa Salad can be much better considering the high cost. Service insanely slow.

Scheduled to open at 12:00, we docked up at 11:58 and a guy working there told us aggressively that they don't open until 2 and that we "would have to F off". I was there with my partner and my elderly parents. I was in disbelief, because we had been polite to him. Just showed up a couple of minutes earlier than they were scheduled to open and had a very chilling, confrontational reaction from the man. I'd been there a couple of times before and now regret ever giving them business.

Nice place to have a drink when the sun is shining. Friendly service. I can recommend this place.

I'm used to it better from Amstelhaven. It's a great bistro with food and drinks and sometimes something goes wrong. We ordered chicken satay, but the beginning and end were unfortunately lukewarm/cold and hard. The middle part of the chicken was excellent, as I have come to expect from Lima and the likes. Unfortunately, the Flemish fries were not Flemish. Those are thick and long fries, but Amstelhaven knows that too. Point of attention? The atmosphere and service were really good. On the water top! Friendly, fast and well-maintained is also a strong point of Amstelhaven.

Beautiful location! Also easily accessible by public transport.

Great beers, nice location on the canal

Unique Selling Point is it's location near one of the canals. It's lovely to see the touristboats driving by. Food is mainly Tapas style. Not exceptional but just good and reasonably priced. Staff is friendly

I had the opportunity to photograph a wonderful wedding party here. The wedding ceremony and dinner were at the Amstelhotel. That is within walking distance of the Amstelhaven. Everything arranged well!

Food and the vibe was great 😊 there was open mic when we visited so it was quite soothing to have many interesting performances.

Chill spot. The weather wasn't great, so that's probably why it was more on the quiet side. Drinks were good and I only had croquetes because the oven wasn't working. Overall a nice place.

Een bijzonder leuke plek in Amsterdam. Het terras ligt strak aan het water en daardoor is er met mooi weer altijd wel wat te zien. Ook de drukte van de erlangs gelegen wegen gaat langs je heen omdat je veel dieper zit, op waterniveau dus. Met name als watersporter kan je hier goed terecht omdat je heel makkelijk kan aanleggen en de steiger voldoende plek biedt aan meerdere bootjes Aanrader!

Hele gezellige avond, snel geholpen door een hele klantvriendelijk jongenman met een mooie knot in. Volgens mij genaamd danny.

Great place for a drink. Right on the riverside, wonderful atmosphere. A tad noisy, but no reason to not visit.

Heerlijke plek om te komen. Fijne sfeer met goede prijzen voor eten en drinken. Een plek waar het voelt alsof je thuis én welkom bent. Eindelijk een plek in Amsterdam waar niet het zien en gezien worden is. Als je het hoog in je bol hebt, loop dan aub verder!

Heerlijk eten, gezellig sfeer en mooi terras aan het water. Verder altijd leuke medewerkers die je van dienst zijn. Kortom, toptent!

The place looks nice and has a comfortable terrace. The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. The guy with the hair bun took some time to chat where he could, which made the time I was there more pleasant.

Wat een heerlijk plekje in Amsterdam! Leuk opgezet terras met verschillende zitjes, bankjes. Heerlijke wijnen en goed eten! En de bediening, vooral de dame met het donkere haar ( leek de manager?) is zoooo goed in haar vak! Aanrader dit! Tot snel weer ❤️

Amstelhaven had heerlijke spaanse tapas. Minder was de waterige espressomartini die ik moest laten staan.

Nice location but terrible service, didn't get served for ages, waited 20 mins for one drink to arrive and had to chase them on the other drink. Finally after chasing we found out they ran out of the drink I ordered. And then I wasn't given the opportunity to order another drink. Quite laughable how bad it was truth be told!

Descent food, if you like fried food and beer. They have salads too but mostly everyone order fish and chips, calamari or kroketten. Nice to seat by the water, enjoying the beer and boats passing by.

Leuke locatie. Leuke bediening. Eten was echt niet goed. Waren met een groep en alleen de biefstuk was redelijk.

Fantastische plek in de zon na 15 u Heerlijke cocktails; espresso martini! Smakelijke tapas en hele goede dorade Leuk personeel Aan het water; bootjes kijken!

Het personeel kletst liever met elkaar en is lekker op hun mobiel bezig ipv de bediening opnemen. Het eten was echt slecht, fantasieloos en smakeloos. Deze kok snapt echt niks van eten. Vorig jaar was de kwaliteit stukken beter. Ik kom hier niet meer terug.
