Amsterdam Roest in Oostelijke Eilanden/Kadijken

Everything from start to finish was absolutely beautiful. Because it was snowing heavily outside, we had the entire place to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. The wines, the dishes we chose, the team’s warm approach and the quality of service were all excellent. The atmosphere is calm, refined, and thoughtfully curated, minimal yet enriched with eclectic touches. Truly a memorable experience.

A really cool venue: nicely decorated and it's really buzzing inside. That's nicely done. We received a friendly welcome, and the service started off strong, but gradually became slower and a bit sloppy. The main course took over an hour (without a refresher), and no new drinks were served in between. It was nice that they came up with a solution themselves. It was very busy, so that was partly understandable. The food was tasty but not exceptional; the ravioli was quite greasy, although it tasted good. All in all, a great place with room for improvement in service.

very nice atmosphere but the service was sooo slow and the portions so small. i ordered the fish as main dish but no way i am close to satisfied so i guess i will go home to have some more food. i paid 65€ for our meal.

We and our group of friends enjoyed a beautiful pre-Christmas dinner at Roest on a lovely afternoon, enjoying the ambiance, service, and delicious dishes. This is a wonderful establishment run by professionals. Kudos!

Great fun restaurant! Good service and delicious food!

So… this blonde young dutch Waiter was making out behind the bar with another waitress when I entered the restaurant . I like to mind my business so I just ask for a beer for take away as i did at least a dozen times as i live behind the place and supermarkets are closed when I get home late. Dude steps away from the girl and walks towards me almost squaring up with the shoulders and tells me no in the harshest possible way . When I explain that I live behind the place and this happened one other occasions before , he comes back with an even more aggressive : I don’t care who gave you what I ain’t t serving you and gets even closer at me 😂 as lil bro was probably not even 18 with 0 self awareness, I just left the place but I am leaving my first ever review. Honestly,I don’t care about the beer at all, could have been that it was a new rule from today and I would have happily moved on with my day. But you my friend, were just trying to impress your girl so shame on you 😂

The food took a long time to arrive and wasn’t what we expected. The staff was rude and unprofessional, which made the whole experience very disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Very nice cozy restaurant with decor and dishes of today, a DJ mixes the slightly too loud music but the atmosphere is great, the staff excellent, the service perfect and the dishes excellent, very good, keep up the good work!!

The food was delicious. The Brussels sprouts and chanterelle starter is highly recommended. The industrial building is beautiful, and the decor is superb. We had the early shift, and everything went smoothly. The service was pleasant. We will definitely be back.

The inside of the restaurant is stunning, super well taken of and very modern and elegant. The food was delicious, good portions too. The staff were super attentive and very friendly. The menu is however limited so don’t expect a full usual menu, but you can see that they make the most of what they serve, as it is super good.

Four of us dined at Roest Amsterdam, and the food was truly excellent. The menu offered a variety of options, something for everyone. The dishes were well-seasoned, beautifully presented, and the plates arrived hot. The service between courses took a little longer than usual, but that allowed for good conversation, so it didn't bother us. The ambiance is very pleasant: a beautiful building, neatly arranged tables, and good acoustics, allowing for easy conversation without too much background noise. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The atmosphere at the table was good, but the staff seemed uninterested. Glasses were left empty, orders were forgotten, and the atmosphere was downright disinterested, which was difficult because it was a quiet restaurant. One waitress even took things off the table with her hands down her pants—not very charming. Even when something went wrong, there was no real engagement. Now, I have to say, this can happen. The young man/kitchen (I wasn't sure at the time) behind the bar was definitely in a good mood; his energy was incredibly funny and enjoyable. In summary: if the staff gave as much love and attention as they put into the food and atmosphere, Roest would be a fantastic place. The food and the location deserve a big thumbs-up, but the service was unfortunately subpar.

Beautiful location. We had a picnic in the orchard, followed by a tour and wine tasting. What wonderful wines they make here! Highly recommended.

I came back to this cafe after almost 6 years, what a surprise, not only the restaurant but the whole neighborhood has changed. Some of the pictures in Google still show the cool lay back atmosphere it had and the sand terrace. Not is not bad but not what I was looking for, nevertheless a beautiful building and atmosphere

Nice terrace outdoors to enjoy the sun on a sunmer day! We only had drinks, the service was fine but the waitress didn't know what a lager beer is, which us ok I guess, they are mostly students working in the staff team.

Had lunch at the new Roest for the first time. Wow, what a beautiful renovation! It's a shame the rest of the place needs some attention. The service was friendly, but not exactly hospitality-savvy, and the flat white was shocking. The mackerel and steak tartare sandwiches were good, the salad was awful. I was still hungry after the €15 sandwich. It's a truly beautiful place, but there's definitely still a lot of room for improvement.

Admittedly, a true Amsterdam experience. It feels as though too many kitchens here host a talented and able team while front of house across the city recruits the least capable people to support them. We had a brilliant Smoked eel, fresh tartare and a lovely Halibut. Unfortunately it was a challenge to truly appreciate it. Between a hostess not letting anyone know we’ve sat down, to a waiter taking a while to bring a menu, not bringing water until halfway through or meal or coming back for any drink orders until literally flagged down at the bar and music being turned up to the level of a corner bar at 1AM on Oosterpark, even discussing how tasty the food was was a pain. This was not the worst experience. However, more establishments need to show a little more passion when it comes to the restaurant experience if they’re choosing to price a main at 35 euros and kimchi croquettes at 10 euros. The idea of value for money seems to be drowning in a sea of same same Amsterdam restaurants. I wouldn’t recommend a visit here. And I would advise the front of house to re-visit their approach and maybe hire more attentive staff. Or, simply lower your prices to match the bar-like experience you provide.

Worst service I've ever experienced. We sat for 20 minutes, and no one came to us for drinks or even to give us a menu. We tried to make eye contact with the staff several times, but were simply ignored. After 20 minutes, we left and went to another restaurant. Nice location, though.

Roest has a really nice atmosphere with a great ambiance that makes it a pleasant place to spend time. The food was tasty and enjoyable, definitely a highlight of the visit. The only downside was that the service was lagging and a bit slow at times, which could be improved. Overall though, it’s a spot worth visiting and I would come back again

Good place. But sometimes overcrowded, so it is the reason for slow services. Waiter forgot to bring a bread about which we asked twice, and wine which we wait more than 20 minutes. And we received an order after asking an another waiter. In general place is nice and has an interesting location. Waiters were in biggest part nice and pleasant. Good place for drinks, but not for food.

We ordered 3 ribeyes and asked for medium rare but all three were overcooked and looked grey. Not to mention each steak were presented differently (garnish). Steak tartare was ok. Would not come back here.

We had a reservation for 2 at 7pm. By 7:40 we had still not received our drinks. I went to the bar to try and find out where it is but was met with a very sarcastic response and was told they are doing their best. If 40 minutes for a drink is your best, then there might be an issue 😂 Food came out quicker, but unfortunately when it arrived it was completely cold. By that stage we were so over it we just ate it cold. Cool spot, hope you can sort out the lack of service.

Beautiful architecture. Horrendous service. We waited for ages to be served, we were asked to take a seat by one staff member and acknowledged by two others then ignored - literally the waiters’ eyes quickly darted away if I caught eye contact. Very weird and antisocial behaviour from staff, I feel sorry for the owner to be honest. Another table walked out at the same time we did. Very disappointing wont be back.

The place has a nice industrial feeling. The service was good. The food was not worth the price, we tried different dishes and they were not impressive. Presentation, size and taste were lacking. I would not recommend either the rhubarb dessert. The chocolate one was okay. The rib eye was full of fat and soaked in sauce like a soup, and tasteless. However, the staff was very nice to make up for that.

Beautiful industrial place. Food was ok-ish, price/quality not really in balance. Rosé wine, lovely but really overpriced! Staff was friendly but could be a bit more active on the floor. I do see real potential for this location, keep working on it!

The food is really comfortable here, and it's also suitable for larger groups. The food isn't particularly exciting, but it's quite classic and delicious. The wine is excellent!

Lovely place by the water. Food was really really tasty, personally a bit on the pricey side regarding the portions. Also, would have loved to see more veggie options. Other than that, loved the atmosphere of the building and the outside terrace!

They're working on a fantastic new hotspot there! The staff is chatty and willing to help, for example, with suggestions for delicious wines to pair with the dishes. Moving from the terrace to the inside went smoothly; no hassle. All the dishes were delicious, but the halibut was my favorite for the second time already. The decor is "less is more" industrial and stylish. I'll be back soon! Marco

Great place to sit outside with friends. They have a nice menu and good cocktails too. The service is a bit slow but overall ok. I highly recommend the paling for the starters.

It seems like the restaurant is under new management - a bit chaotic with service and staff don’t seem knowledgable. When we asked about prices for the set menu, we were told we should know from when we booked. Luckily another waitress came over and helped us out. I had the steak and being the most expensive dish on the menu, it was dry and a bit overcooked. The cut was lower quality that felt tough to chew. Ambiance was nice, I liked the rustic and warehouse feeling. Perhaps something to dampen the noise a little cause I found myself yelling across the table, with my throat hurting after dinner.

First: This is a new business, so all reviews older than one year should be removed or ignored. It’s a complete different place with a different vibe and targeted audience. I’ve been here before and loved the cool laid-back vibe. That’s no longer the case. That being said; this new version of Roest looks great, the building is gorgeous and well renovated. The food: It’s nice, not wow, but definitely not bad either I think because I was expecting the ‘old’ Roest, this all felt a bit posh to me. The service: I think the team is fairly new and therefore still needs to find their flow. There is room for improvement. I think my biggest issue is that this new place is still using the old photos and reviews from it’s former existence and that feels like misleading. It’s no longer this place, so simply remove those reviews and photos.

What a shame, this restaurant is in such a beautiful spot and was excited to have a new restaurant in the neighborhood but we will not be returning. The service was so slow, we waited for over two hours for our dinner to arrive, they kept assuring us the food was coming, offered nothing else while we waited over two hours, and food finally came and even as hungry as we were, food was not good. The sauces were bland, and the meat was under cooked. Don't bother coming here for anything more than drinks.

When we first arrived, the service was a bit mediocre. When Jesse appeared at our table, it changed immediately. What a service, what an atmosphere. Jesse knows how to completely unburden his guests and make them feel at home with his great service. Jesse, thank you for the great evening. We will definitely come back for you!

Roest remains a nostalgic place with good memories, but the newly opened restaurant disappointed. The location is beautiful and the welcome was friendly, but the kitchen could not live up to this. The ribeye was too salty and was drowned out by a much too strong pepper sauce, which lost the flavor of the meat. The fries were fried too long and tough. Unfortunately the chicken turned out to be dry. The bill was also incorrect; there were dishes on it that we had not received... Only positive note: the bread with butter beforehand was tasty and the wine was well chosen. However, the price-quality ratio leaves much to be desired. All in all, a missed opportunity in a place that deserves better.

Ok food, worst service I've had in Amsterdam for a long time. Above all: this used to be one of the most special places in the city, it doesn't shine anymore in any way. Old love rusts, unfortunately

Very nice new place in Amsterdam, very tasty food the fish in combination with the salad is really tasty, the entrecote was tender and the chocolate dessert is also really great:)!! In addition, the ambiance is also really cozy and the decor is homogeneous and interestingly approached.

The location, the interior and the atmosphere of the new Roest are great! Unfortunately I am not so happy about the lunch. As a vegetarian there is only one option, so if you don't like it you have no other choice. In addition, a mistake was made and I got a different order. No problem, it can happen and I got the right dish quite quickly. Unfortunately, the right dish was incomplete. Because I felt bad about having to send my plate back a second time on a crowded terrace to the slightly indifferent service, I only ate a greasy croissant with only mushrooms and lettuce for €12... which made me feel sick afterwards. Maybe the dinner can still surprise me positively, but otherwise I will only come here for the coffee because that was very tasty!

Ate here for the first time since it opened last weekend. It remains a beautiful building with a nice atmosphere, now only with delicious food! I will be back soon!

Service was okay but not eaten so mediocre in a long time. Ravioli was served in a kind of tasteless soup that made it look like dumplings. Supplement nduja (3€ extra) had no taste or smack to it. Other main course (fish) was in watery margarine sauce that had to pass for beurre blanc. Dessert skipped. Too bad, because nice location. This was more like a bar where a restaurant was played.

Mediocre, this way it won't work. Unfortunately the menu on the website does not match the current menu and no gesture is made to offer a solution for this. On a quiet evening the ravioli is sold out early. Kitchen is not special. Rhubarb dessert is ridiculous, large pieces of rhubarb thrown in a bowl with some meringue. Staff is not yet trained and very junior. Beautiful location but that's it.

The service and food did not disappoint. Ordered multiple courses of food and was impressed with every serving. My favourite snack was the San Marzano flatbread (which is identical to pizza) and main meal was the ravioli with n’duja. The triple chocolate is very well-made with a good texture.

My girlfriend took me here for a glass of wine. Despite the fact that it was completely full of people dining, this was no problem! Enthusiastic staff, good service, good atmosphere. Oh and delicious olives! And also water for our dog 🫶🏻🎀

I do enjoy this place, it has a good vibe and the drinks and food are well priced. However the service needs a lot of work, I can understand a lack of experience given the current staff shortage in horeca, however a good attitude and a smile can bring you a long way! Alongside this, the opening hours should be updated, if guests arrive within opening hours, they should not be treated as a burden, the staff seemed very annoyed when some friends and I came for a drink 2 hours before closing and said we had to be extra careful with our drinks as they had just cleaned! It is ok to close early but the opening hours advertised should reflect that.

I will start by saying this is a new business and I hope the issues are just growing pains that they will overcome. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous. I like how they have decorated it. The music and atmosphere is quite pleasant. The coffee, tea, beer, and house wines are a good price. It feels like quite a fancy place, but the food/cocktail quality, service, and outdoor seating do not live up to this. We had three of the snacks which we found poor quality and expensive. Twice we ordered cocktails, and after 15 minutes we were told the ingredients were not available. This seems quite a slow feedback; especially since the bar was not busy. The cocktails tasted unbalanced and not the quality I would have expected. The outdoor seating area feels quite cheap compared to the interior. I do believe these issues can be resolved in time. I’d recommend this place for a beer or wine for the moment; and perhaps in a few weeks or months I’ll give their cocktails and food another go.

Stunning place with overpriced but average food and disastrous service. Waited 35 minuted for this “snack”. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Food couldn’t have been worse. Starters extremely simple and small. Calling “flat bread” a small tasteless pizza. Simple cherries with “babagaboush”… while then we waited for 1h to the main courses. For the main course we had the Rib-Eye, it was extremely salty, and for some of us the plate they used to serve the meat it was too small. Salad was decent and the fries had no taste. Although they offered not to charge the desserts because of the delay between the courses, the chocolate desert was not balanced between the flavors of the “kinda fermented cherry” and the chocolate. This just summarize the food experience, but the music although it was a party vibe and we understand it was too loud so eventually we couldn’t talk anymore. We will not come back.

We had a pleasant evening at the new Roest and really enjoyed the atmosphere -it’s a beautiful space with great potential. As a neighbor, I was genuinely excited to visit, but I felt that both the food and service didn’t quite live up to the high standard set by the interiors and location. The service, in particular, is an area I hope will improve. It felt quite slow, and the staff didn’t seem very attentive or experienced, which is a shame given the concept and ambition behind the restaurant. We waited a while before receiving the menu, and the dietary restrictions we had noted during our online reservation weren’t acknowledged-we had to bring them up ourselves. There were also some other moments, like the waitress clearing the table and asking about dessert while some of us were still finishing our main courses or bring the desserts and not cleaning the table from the left overs on the table, we had to ask for it. Not major issues, but a more welcoming and attentive service would go a long way in creating a better experience. I understand that the restaurant is still new, and I hope this is just part of the early adjustment phase. A warm and efficient team can really make a place feel special. Regarding the food, there’s definitely room for refinement. Some of the dishes felt a bit unbalanced or lacked the finesse expected at this price point. The tartare, for example, was plated quite plainly. The ribeye didn’t leave a strong impression and the ravioli were overcooked, likely due to the generous amount of sauce on the plate. I’d love to see a more well-presented menu that really highlights the quality of the ingredients. All in all, the new Roest has a lot of potential and I’m rooting for it. It’s an incredibly beautiful space, a true architectural piece of art!! Far away from the low-key and beach vibes it used to have, but more industrial and modern, different and still unique. I look forward to coming back and hopefully seeing the improvements that could make it a go-to spot for my neighborhood.

There is nothing left of the old vibe and the memories of this place are hard to find. Had reserved lunch at 3:00 PM via the website. But when I arrived I was told that lunch only lasts until 2:30. After I indicated that I had actually reserved lunch via the website, they checked whether something was possible. Then a boy from the kitchen came and explained to me that lunch at 3:00 PM is really too late. At no point did they seem to understand that we expect lunch when we make a lunch reservation. That boy made it seem like it was my fault. When I asked if it was going to change on the website, he said that was a good tip. But he didn't really mean that Unfortunately. Update: After a second chance, we had a wonderful lunch and afternoon! :)

Disappointed in this place, poor service, decent food but otherwise no reason to come back again. Price quality really not okay. Coffee machine was cleaned when there were still a lot of tables (reservation was 7 p.m.). Main course fish, the only thing on the menu was sold out? Really strange turn of events.

When I heard that Roest would reopen in Oostenburg, I immediately had high expectations, but after eating there today I was disappointed. The price of the dishes is quite high, but the quality is comparable to what you can expect in a cafe, only a lot more expensive. Many of the dishes we wanted to order were also out, it would be nice if this was communicated immediately. The place is beautifully decorated, but it is clear that more attention is paid to the interior than to the food. It's a great place for a drink, but for the food it's not worth the money.

New neighborhood restaurant in the Oostenburg area. It had a nice atmosphere, with a lounge area to drink a glass of wine after dinner. Price/Quality for the wine and food is good. They also have an outside terrace.

Beautiful restaurant. Beautifully spacious and furnished with care, but that's about it. Ordered drinks three times and finally walked to the bar myself. Scanty menu without vegan options. 1 vegetarian option….Small portions. Sloppy operation. Missed opportunity when you've just opened. Everything must be right!

It's nice that Roest is back after so many years. The interior space certainly reminds me of the old Roest, the atmosphere is now also good and the lunch was delicious. ... but the liberality, the non-conformism, the freedom of the old Rust is - unfortunately - no longer there. Urban development is -again- in the way. And that is a loss for Amsterdam…

Such a jaw dropping bar/restaurant! Let's just put a beach in the middle of an industrial facility. There's so much going on. I'm still inspired years later!

Roest is located at an industrial area with old warehouses. I just love the vibe at Amsterdam Roest. It’s so laid back and relaxed. A bit underground as well. Since this winter you can grab dinner at the Red Snack, a huge red English bus, where you can get snack food like a burger and roti roll with chicken. On Sunday’s there a special brunch concept at Amsterdam Roest between 12 – 4 pm. Expect sandwiches, eggs, fruit and pastry. When the weather is nice and warm. It’s such a great spot to relax in one of the beach chairs with your feet in the sand. All year round there are events at Roest. From markets to warehouse parties and festivals.

Nice place but not as a neighbor. As a local I lived right next to it for almost 10 years (at the czaar peterstraat), and Roest visitors make a lot of noise at night. I moved to a quiet street in Amsterdam Noord but now the owners of Roest want to start a big venue in my new, very quiet, rustique neighborhood. Not good. They want to turn the whole of Amsterdam into a hipster version of Disneyworld.

26 juli 2019 Ben ik er geweest! Achter de bar staat een hele onbeschofte barvrouw!!! Ze kan niet eens een normaal biertje tappen 🙈 Deze is zeker niet geschikt voor in de horeca, deze dame had ik als het mijn tent was per direct ontslagen!!! Ze kan beter soliciteren als schoonmaker. Voor de rest is het wel een leuke tent Een tip voor de eigenaar van Roest! Het gaat niet om een slecht getapt biertje!! Maar om personeel die echt met plezier achter een bar willen staan!

Geweldig sfeervolle locatie voor eenvoudige lunch, drankje of dinerhap. Zitplaatsen binnen, buiten en strandje.
