Amsterdam Roest in Oostelijke Eilanden/Kadijken

The food was fantastic tonight! 😋

We had dinner at Amsterdam Roest in the trendy Oostenburg district shortly after arriving in Amsterdam today. The service was very attentive; we were greeted warmly and only had to wait a few minutes to order. Our drinks arrived promptly. The short wait for the food suggested it was freshly prepared. We ordered an appetizer and a main course. The portions weren't particularly large, but perfectly adequate, and we all enjoyed them very much. For a Monday evening, the restaurant wasn't overly busy, but a party created a pleasant atmosphere. There are numerous restaurants near our hotel, the Inntel Landmark, but unfortunately, most are closed on Mondays. We highly recommend Amsterdam Roest.

We were a big group. So much was missing. The menu was set so It was disappointing to have food missing. People waiting. The server was moody and you could tell she was not happy to be there. It is a pity because the place itself is very nice.

The idea of sharing different main course is great. Small selection of main course but again makes it so easy for all. Looks great inside.

Beautiful location, delicious food and good service!!!!

The atmosphere is beautiful and there are some tasty bites on the menu. But service is indeed very slow and unfortunately the vegetarian options weren’t really to my taste. Not sure I’ll be back for a meal, maybe for a drink and some snacks.

In Amsterdam, but off the beaten tourist track, we found this restaurant occupying a former industrial building in a rapidly transforming port area. The atmosphere was relaxed, youthful, and dynamic. The restaurant project has successfully maintained that nautical simplicity. The menu is straightforward. We opted for brunch and were delighted. The desserts were a 10/10. I especially loved the fries—extra crispy. And the staff were eager to please. The place is quite spacious, perfect for a beer and a bite with friends or a celebration with a full meal.

We had a delicious meal and the service was very friendly. The starters were really tasty; we shared them. The sirloin steak was very good, the only downside is that not many vegetables are served with it. For dessert, the Milk and Honey is highly recommended.

Good food, so there is probably a good chef in the kitchen. Cool place (old industry). But… The wait staff really let down the impression: they were confused and disorganized. Smoked? Someone dropped our lamb on the floor, so we had to wait. It was unclear who served us, we got the same info several times, one of the party had to wait an extremely long time for their order. Embarrassingly bad actually.

Location is nice. The staff is nice but unorganized. Once we got to the table we found crumbles all over the chairs and a dirty glass. We ordered food and waited for ~50’, until we asked and were told we would get something out of the kitchen hopefully soon. After that, the steak that we had ordered was brought to the table burned on the outside and raw on the inside.

The chairs outside are the only thing that isn't very comfortable, but otherwise it's a great spot!

Fresh, young establishment in a beautiful and quiet location. Well-balanced food and wine menu. Attentive and welcoming service, and you can enjoy lingering at the table after dinner or sit or stand at the bar. Spacious terrace too! A tip for the owner is to pay some extra attention to the capacity of the toilets. They are neat and clean, but not in proportion to the size/capacity of the location.

We had a decent meal and the atmosphere was quite nice, but the quality of the food was nothing to write home about—certainly no more than pub level. The service was friendly but not very attentive, we were served a new type of wine in the same glass, the cocktail was mediocre and weak, and the bill we had to pay was absurdly high. The price-quality ratio is completely out of balance and not recommended, unless they significantly lower the prices or substantially improve the overall quality.

My wife and I had lunch here. Unfortunately, we found a hair in her food. The waiter initially indicated that it was probably a piece of salmon. After examining it more closely, they eventually offered to replace the dish. However, the plate was taken away with visible reluctance and rolling eyes. Additionally, it took quite a long time before we were served, and in the meantime, no one came by to ask if we wanted another drink or to inquire if everything was to our liking. The restaurant wasn't even particularly busy, which made the lack of attention to service stand out even more. Perhaps it would be a good idea to invest in staff training regarding customer focus and hospitality. It's a shame, because the restaurant itself looks nice.

Very good small plates, delicious food, delicious wine, great ambience.

I had dinner at Roest Amsterdam yesterday, and it was such a great experience. Located on the waterfront in the Oostenburg district, Roest combines a raw industrial interior with a warm, relaxed atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for a long evening with friends. We shared several dishes, including fresh oysters, crispy bitterballen, and a beautifully presented salmon crudo to start. For our main courses, we had the Piri Piri chicken and the beef, both prepared perfectly and full of flavor. The menu focuses on seasonal dishes with French and Mediterranean influences, and every plate was fresh, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing. What made the evening even better was the friendly service and the vibrant atmosphere. Roest is one of those places where you come for the food but end up staying for the ambiance. I’ll definitely be back!

Food is good but expensive and not a lot (e.g. Entrecote has no chips and hardly any veg; steak tartare nice but not main meal quantity). Good place for lounging and drinks though.

Beautiful location with delicious food. Super attentive and friendly staff who know what they are talking about. The only minor point is that it is very noisy inside with many guests. Not a criticism, but perhaps something for improvement.

What a wonderful establishment! I attended a company event, and unfortunately, it fell on the hottest day of the year, Friday, June 27, 2026. Incredible thanks to the guys who served us – their work in such heat was invaluable. The food was delicious, the presentation was interesting, and the drinks were plentiful. And the highlight was access to the canal, where we successfully cooled down after the official part. Highly recommended!

Nice restaurant. Good food, and good service. On nice days it's fun to sit outside and enjoy the quiet. We ordered bread with butter which was excellent, a beet and cherry dish which was excellent. The main courses are also good.

The staff is really unbearable. They stand behind the bar the whole time. They don't come by our table. They don't ask if we want anything to drink. We constantly have to walk over to them to order something. It's a real shame for such a beautiful place and delicious food.

We booked a table at your restaurant for our last night in Amsterdam, eager to end our trip with a nice dinner. We arrived at 9:45 PM, even though our reservation was for 10:00 PM. We were seated, given the menus, and the waitress told us she would be back shortly to take our order. That "shortly" never came. After waiting for more than 20 minutes without anyone approaching us, we had to get up and find a waitress ourselves to politely ask her to take our order because we wanted to have dinner. We were utterly shocked when she told us the kitchen was already closed because it closed at 10:00 PM… and it was 10:05 PM. It's incomprehensible that, having a reservation for 10:00 PM and having been seated before that time, no one was able to attend to us during those 20 minutes, and then the solution was simply to tell us we couldn't have dinner. We tried to explain the situation to the supposed manager of the restaurant, hoping for at least some empathy or an alternative. However, whether due to a lack of professionalism or an inability to communicate properly in English, we received no solution whatsoever. Not a sincere apology, not a gesture, not even the slightest attempt to resolve a problem that the restaurant itself had created. The result was that we went without dinner on our last night in Amsterdam. And, to top off an already regrettable experience, a severe thunderstorm began as we left the restaurant. After cycling there from quite a distance, we returned to the hotel completely soaked and with empty stomachs. It was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant experience we have ever had. Not only because we went without dinner, but also because of the absolute lack of attention, empathy, and professionalism. We will never return, and we certainly cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Nice place, delicious food and fast service!

They have an incredible brunch menu at lunch time that offers great value. The industrial vibe is really well polished off and all together with a decent wine menu, makes the place great. There's room for improvement with service, both in speed and quality.

I just got undercooked chicken on my plate. It was still red on the inside. It's also boiling hot inside because the doors aren't allowed to be opened opposite each other. Not my kind of place. The cola was already gone by 7 in the evening too.

Very nice place, industrial look. You have to like that, I think it's great. The shared lunch is very tasty; it looks like a lot of food, but there is a bit little. A little more bread would have been nice; I got hungry again quickly, but then again, I am a big eater :)

Place looks great yet service was horrible. Not being welcomed at all and serviced like what are you doing here? Also very sloppy with providing cutlery and napkins when food was served. Our feedback to the staff was met with arrogance. Avoid at all cost.

Good food and a cozy atmosphere

The food is quite good, the place is nice, but the menu is misleading: my friend and I ordered a pork dish advertised as 800g for 2-3 people at €69. However, we only received barely 400g, a small bowl with 2 or 3 potatoes. So basically, half the dish that was advertised on the menu… After calmly expressing our dissatisfaction, the waitress offered us only a meager compensation…

Super cool place, beautiful interior, relaxed and customer-friendly staff, truly excellent food, dog allowed inside. You get the idea: highly recommended and we will definitely be coming back here!

We came to dine at Roest last Sunday and wow... what a beautiful location you have. It has exactly that casual chic atmosphere: stylish, warm, and at the same time wonderfully relaxed. The combination of the industrial interior, the water, and the cozy vibe makes this a place where you really want to hang out for hours. But what made our evening truly special was the service. We were served by Louisa (if I remember her name correctly😄) and she really helped us out excellently. Super attentive, enthusiastic, and she gave our evening just that little bit of extra flair. We even got to take a tour of the wine cellar with her, which added a really nice and personal touch to the whole experience. We had also ordered a bottle of wine that unfortunately wasn't chilled, but even that was resolved very professionally and pleasantly. You can just tell when a team is truly dedicated to giving guests a top-notch evening. In addition, we had a delicious meal!! Beautiful dishes, fine flavors, and just a really good atmosphere throughout. Thanks for the lovely evening, we will definitely be back ✨🍷

Place looks great. Food was delicious but a bit odd with the menu that has to be ordered for 2 but we got only 1 dessert but supposedly that's how it is but i question that the service just didnt take the order correctly cause the service was soooo bad. Haven't experienced this in a long time in Amsterdam.

This place could be very nice if they would hire decent staff that understand service at even a moderate level. Some of the worst I have seen in years (taking into account that expectations in NL need to be severely lowered)

Nice place (very nicely decorated inside), a bit ‘simple’ outside. A nice tablecloth and set tables make a world of difference. You can technically moor your boat. The food was fine! However, the service was not yet quite up to the level you would expect. We had to repeat our question several times... the staff seemed brand new and not yet in sync with each other!

Beautiful location and tastefully decorated. Private wine cellar, so everything was set for a lovely evening, but unfortunately. The food was very disappointing. If steak is no longer available on a Friday, that is not good. Very young staff, super friendly, but a bit chaotic. The wines were good, though!

Perfect for dinner with friends!

In the past, with the beach, Roest was perfect. The location and the building still are. But... if you charge such high prices for your dishes, everything has to be okay. The food was good, but we almost had to stand on our chairs to get the wait staff's attention, and that makes the evening tiring instead of relaxing. The price-quality ratio is not balanced, so... A shame, but we won't be returning for the time being.

We had to wait an extremely long time between the appetizer and the main course, and again between the main course and dessert, and were barely acknowledged. A real shame, otherwise the restaurant was very good and lovely.

The beetroot starter was excellent, the chicken was a bit disappointing. It was a bit on the dry side. There were several large groups that evening, which might be the reason. Overall, a nice experience.

I celebrated my 50th birthday here on Sunday. Over 50 people. Delicious appetizers and attentive staff. Roest has a beautiful look and atmosphere. My birthday was a huge success and I can recommend it to everyone.

Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to have dinner there (yet) but I did had some delicious wine! The atmosphere is very cozy and warm, the staff is friendly.

Of course, it's a different concept and has a different atmosphere than the former Roest, but the food was delicious, the welcome and service very friendly, and the staff was efficient and fast. Definitely recommended!

Unfortunately, there's nothing left of the old rust. Everything looks too polished. We made a reservation for three people, and even though the restaurant was only 30% full, we were seated at a table for two. The food was okay, but the portions were far too small. Prices are high compared to the portions. Disappointing; rust is clearly rust no more.

We went here for my birthday, but I wouldn't return. It took ages to get served, and although the waitresses were very kind, they weren't very attentive. It took ages to get our food, both for the starter and the main course. It turned out that the chicken we ordered was raw, and because they didn't check to see if everything was to our liking, and the waitresses unfortunately didn't see us trying to get their attention, we only managed to tell them when they were clearing the table. I do have to say, though, that the waitress asked if the person who ordered the chicken was hungry and gave them both the chicken and a portion of bread on the house. However, we then asked for the bill. Such a shame.

It was delicious and cozy, and the service from a very sweet waitress was truly superb. Her name was Amelie. Thank you, Amelie!

One more of the same. An alternative place, something different has been turned into a generic "fancy with an industrial twist" restaurant. Sad...

The food was delicious – especially the halibut with gnocchi – but around 9:00 PM, the music was cranked up to the point where we couldn't hear each other. Really, it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, I'd definitely like the music a bit louder than average, but it was clear the DJ was enjoying it more, not the people at the table. After asking if the music could be turned down a bit – no response – we ended up having dessert around the corner at V R R.

The space is absolutely stunning and so was the food! My only wish would be some fruit instead of walnuts in the dessert. Otherwise, it was quite empty and peaceful at lunchtime on a Saturday and the staff was friendly.

A beautiful industrial space in the heart of a rapidly developing neighborhood in Amsterdam. I remember Restaurant Rust from 10 years ago, when it was indeed a rusty place, a bit raw. The new Rust looks sleek. It has a charming atmosphere with candles on small tables in the industrial setting. We only had drinks, so I can't comment on the food. The neighborhood it's in is still developing, so that makes it a bit less inviting now. But when this neighborhood is bustling, Rust is also a great place to be.

Everything from start to finish was absolutely beautiful. Because it was snowing heavily outside, we had the entire place to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. The wines, the dishes we chose, the team’s warm approach and the quality of service were all excellent. The atmosphere is calm, refined, and thoughtfully curated, minimal yet enriched with eclectic touches. Truly a memorable experience.

A really cool venue: nicely decorated and it's really buzzing inside. That's nicely done. We received a friendly welcome, and the service started off strong, but gradually became slower and a bit sloppy. The main course took over an hour (without a refresher), and no new drinks were served in between. It was nice that they came up with a solution themselves. It was very busy, so that was partly understandable. The food was tasty but not exceptional; the ravioli was quite greasy, although it tasted good. All in all, a great place with room for improvement in service.

We and our group of friends enjoyed a beautiful pre-Christmas dinner at Roest on a lovely afternoon, enjoying the ambiance, service, and delicious dishes. This is a wonderful establishment run by professionals. Kudos!

So… this blonde young dutch Waiter was making out behind the bar with another waitress when I entered the restaurant . I like to mind my business so I just ask for a beer for take away as i did at least a dozen times as i live behind the place and supermarkets are closed when I get home late. Dude steps away from the girl and walks towards me almost squaring up with the shoulders and tells me no in the harshest possible way . When I explain that I live behind the place and this happened one other occasions before , he comes back with an even more aggressive : I don’t care who gave you what I ain’t t serving you and gets even closer at me 😂 as lil bro was probably not even 18 with 0 self awareness, I just left the place but I am leaving my first ever review. Honestly,I don’t care about the beer at all, could have been that it was a new rule from today and I would have happily moved on with my day. But you my friend, were just trying to impress your girl so shame on you 😂

Very nice cozy restaurant with decor and dishes of today, a DJ mixes the slightly too loud music but the atmosphere is great, the staff excellent, the service perfect and the dishes excellent, very good, keep up the good work!!

The food was delicious. The Brussels sprouts and chanterelle starter is highly recommended. The industrial building is beautiful, and the decor is superb. We had the early shift, and everything went smoothly. The service was pleasant. We will definitely be back.

The inside of the restaurant is stunning, super well taken of and very modern and elegant. The food was delicious, good portions too. The staff were super attentive and very friendly. The menu is however limited so don’t expect a full usual menu, but you can see that they make the most of what they serve, as it is super good.

Four of us dined at Roest Amsterdam, and the food was truly excellent. The menu offered a variety of options, something for everyone. The dishes were well-seasoned, beautifully presented, and the plates arrived hot. The service between courses took a little longer than usual, but that allowed for good conversation, so it didn't bother us. The ambiance is very pleasant: a beautiful building, neatly arranged tables, and good acoustics, allowing for easy conversation without too much background noise. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The atmosphere at the table was good, but the staff seemed uninterested. Glasses were left empty, orders were forgotten, and the atmosphere was downright disinterested, which was difficult because it was a quiet restaurant. One waitress even took things off the table with her hands down her pants—not very charming. Even when something went wrong, there was no real engagement. Now, I have to say, this can happen. The young man/kitchen (I wasn't sure at the time) behind the bar was definitely in a good mood; his energy was incredibly funny and enjoyable. In summary: if the staff gave as much love and attention as they put into the food and atmosphere, Roest would be a fantastic place. The food and the location deserve a big thumbs-up, but the service was unfortunately subpar.

Beautiful location. We had a picnic in the orchard, followed by a tour and wine tasting. What wonderful wines they make here! Highly recommended.

I came back to this cafe after almost 6 years, what a surprise, not only the restaurant but the whole neighborhood has changed. Some of the pictures in Google still show the cool lay back atmosphere it had and the sand terrace. Not is not bad but not what I was looking for, nevertheless a beautiful building and atmosphere

Nice terrace outdoors to enjoy the sun on a sunmer day! We only had drinks, the service was fine but the waitress didn't know what a lager beer is, which us ok I guess, they are mostly students working in the staff team.

Had lunch at the new Roest for the first time. Wow, what a beautiful renovation! It's a shame the rest of the place needs some attention. The service was friendly, but not exactly hospitality-savvy, and the flat white was shocking. The mackerel and steak tartare sandwiches were good, the salad was awful. I was still hungry after the €15 sandwich. It's a truly beautiful place, but there's definitely still a lot of room for improvement.

Admittedly, a true Amsterdam experience. It feels as though too many kitchens here host a talented and able team while front of house across the city recruits the least capable people to support them. We had a brilliant Smoked eel, fresh tartare and a lovely Halibut. Unfortunately it was a challenge to truly appreciate it. Between a hostess not letting anyone know we’ve sat down, to a waiter taking a while to bring a menu, not bringing water until halfway through or meal or coming back for any drink orders until literally flagged down at the bar and music being turned up to the level of a corner bar at 1AM on Oosterpark, even discussing how tasty the food was was a pain. This was not the worst experience. However, more establishments need to show a little more passion when it comes to the restaurant experience if they’re choosing to price a main at 35 euros and kimchi croquettes at 10 euros. The idea of value for money seems to be drowning in a sea of same same Amsterdam restaurants. I wouldn’t recommend a visit here. And I would advise the front of house to re-visit their approach and maybe hire more attentive staff. Or, simply lower your prices to match the bar-like experience you provide.

Worst service I've ever experienced. We sat for 20 minutes, and no one came to us for drinks or even to give us a menu. We tried to make eye contact with the staff several times, but were simply ignored. After 20 minutes, we left and went to another restaurant. Nice location, though.

Roest has a really nice atmosphere with a great ambiance that makes it a pleasant place to spend time. The food was tasty and enjoyable, definitely a highlight of the visit. The only downside was that the service was lagging and a bit slow at times, which could be improved. Overall though, it’s a spot worth visiting and I would come back again

Good place. But sometimes overcrowded, so it is the reason for slow services. Waiter forgot to bring a bread about which we asked twice, and wine which we wait more than 20 minutes. And we received an order after asking an another waiter. In general place is nice and has an interesting location. Waiters were in biggest part nice and pleasant. Good place for drinks, but not for food.

We ordered 3 ribeyes and asked for medium rare but all three were overcooked and looked grey. Not to mention each steak were presented differently (garnish). Steak tartare was ok. Would not come back here.

We had a reservation for 2 at 7pm. By 7:40 we had still not received our drinks. I went to the bar to try and find out where it is but was met with a very sarcastic response and was told they are doing their best. If 40 minutes for a drink is your best, then there might be an issue 😂 Food came out quicker, but unfortunately when it arrived it was completely cold. By that stage we were so over it we just ate it cold. Cool spot, hope you can sort out the lack of service.

Beautiful architecture. Horrendous service. We waited for ages to be served, we were asked to take a seat by one staff member and acknowledged by two others then ignored - literally the waiters’ eyes quickly darted away if I caught eye contact. Very weird and antisocial behaviour from staff, I feel sorry for the owner to be honest. Another table walked out at the same time we did. Very disappointing wont be back.

The place has a nice industrial feeling. The service was good. The food was not worth the price, we tried different dishes and they were not impressive. Presentation, size and taste were lacking. I would not recommend either the rhubarb dessert. The chocolate one was okay. The rib eye was full of fat and soaked in sauce like a soup, and tasteless. However, the staff was very nice to make up for that.

Lovely place by the water. Food was really really tasty, personally a bit on the pricey side regarding the portions. Also, would have loved to see more veggie options. Other than that, loved the atmosphere of the building and the outside terrace!

They're working on a fantastic new hotspot there! The staff is chatty and willing to help, for example, with suggestions for delicious wines to pair with the dishes. Moving from the terrace to the inside went smoothly; no hassle. All the dishes were delicious, but the halibut was my favorite for the second time already. The decor is "less is more" industrial and stylish. I'll be back soon! Marco

Great place to sit outside with friends. They have a nice menu and good cocktails too. The service is a bit slow but overall ok. I highly recommend the paling for the starters.
