A small, simple pub where food is still affordable. I like to come here just to eat good food. It is of course not high quality, but you shouldn't expect that for that price. If you are with a larger group, make sure to make a reservation.

Price per beer is very reasonable and the service is very friendly, I often come here with my friends and there is always a seat available. I would not recommend the house wine, it is really not drinkable, but fortunately it is not that expensive!

A lovely location, hidden away from busy Rokin, looking over the canals. However, the service was very slow and I'm pretty sure my fish was undercooked. I left the meal feeling unwell, maybe it was a busy and bad day for this place.

Unpretentious food with a very good price-quality ratio

The service was very nice, but unfortunately this soup tasted like water. It wasn't zupakrem, but a zucchini-based broth that had no taste.

Nice spot for a drink on the terrace along the canal, they make very good soup, the kitchens close at 10 p.m.

Gran almuerzo! Realmente disfrutamos de nuestra parada de almuerzo aquí. Almorcé sus croquetas que incluían dos croquetas grandes de ternera y ternera, dos rebanadas sustanciales de pan "marrón" muy bueno (como un centeno) y un bocado de lechuga con una rebanada de tomate muy maduro. Las croquetas eran increíbles! Nuestro segundo plato fue un sándwich "Toastie Italiano" de salami, queso, tomate y lechuga a elección de pan. ¡Muy bonito, de hecho! Acompañado de una copa de vino nuestro total fue de solo 18 euros. . . una gran ganga! Este pequeño pub tiene un ambiente agradable y acogedor y un personal que ofreció un gran servicio con una sonrisa. Muy recomendable.

Great lunch! We really enjoyed our lunch stop here. I had their croquettes lunch which included two large veal and beef croquettes, two substantial slices of very good "brown" bread (like a rye) and a bite of lettuce with a slice of beautifully ripe tomato. The croquettes were truly amazing! Our second dish was a "Toastie Italiano" sandwich of salami, cheese, tomato and lettuce on choice of bread. Very nice indeed! Accompanied by a glass of wine our total was just 18 euros...a great bargain! This little pub has a pleasant cozy atmosphere and a staff that delivered great service with a smile. Highly recommended.

You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors, and enjoy a drink while watching the boats on the canal. The staff are very kind. , It was good that he was so cute and friendly!! We also had snacks for the food, and it was delicious. I was surprised that a large draft beer costs 6.5€ even though it's in the center of town. The reasonable price is also highly rated.

Nice location and not expensive, but everything has already been said. Service was very unfriendly. They had forgotten one of the dishes, but they were not told. If you ask for it yourself, you get an indifferent look from your waitress and the answer is "being made". Then you wait another 30-40 minutes and no one pays attention to you when you want to order.

A great place on the gastronomic map of Amsterdam. Great views, good food, great prices!! The service is also very nice and friendly. I definitely recommend it! I will definitely come back.

There were 2 tables occupied on the terrace when we ordered.....after 1 hour we still had not had the simple toasted sandwiches, only drinks and a mixed plate. Meanwhile, the terrace was full of people waiting, the last of whom received their food first. A whole fuss because we no longer wanted the toasted sandwiches and only paid for what we had had, very incompetent staff....who were not there at first but suddenly came from all over when we complained...eventually one who made us pay what we got..... Location perfect.....staff a big 0. When we left the store we heard people complaining that they had had enough....says a lot I think......ah yes, the one star because otherwise you can't post a review.

Toen we aan kwamen waren wij het tweede tafeltje op het terras...we wilden iets eten, simpel, al was bestellen al niet zo simpel ! Uiteindelijk kwam de bediening, we bestelden drinken, bord gemengd en 2 tosti's...er stond op de kaart met panchetta...maar dat bleek de serveerster al niet te begrijpen....drinken kwam en nadien ook het bord gemengd voor 1 iemand. Het terras liep stilaan vol....we zagen bestellingen komen van eten....maar niet voor ons...2 simpele tosti's .. na 1 u ben ik gaan vragen waar ze bleven, lang genoeg gewacht vond ik...ze komen eraan....nee hoor ..''wel voor een andere tafel....dan gezegd dat het nimmer hoefde en ik enkel wou afrekenen wat we gekregen hadden ...moesten we ff mee naar binnen, werd er iemand bijgehaald dat dat niet kon want dat het klaar was....waar dan?? Stond 1 tosti op de toog koud te worden 🙄 nog iemand erbij....ja maar het terras zit vol....niet toen wij bestelden ! Ineens kwam er allerlei personeel naar beneden gedoken .. . En eindelijk iemand die de knoop door hakte......heb alleen betaald wat we gekregen hadden en tot nooit meer! Heel onbekwaam en onwetend personeel !

A cute Dutch bar located in the city center. We went with a friend on the recommendation of a free tour guide. We ordered two pitchers of sangria, which were delicious. It cost us 14 EUR in total. The kitchen closes at 10:00 p.m., so we couldn't order or eat because we arrived at that time. A point to improve since the city is full of tourists who eat at different times. It has a nice view of the Amsterdam canals. Good price/quality ratio.

We were looking for a nice place for a little lunch, not so crowded and preferably by the water. It was a chance find, in a small side street off the busy commercial street and there was a table available. We were thrilled that you could find something like this in the center of Amsterdam. Admittedly, the sun contributed to the great ambience, we sat right on the canal, a boat came by every two minutes to look. The food was good: salad with goat cheese was great, burrito was very good (only the guacamole was a little underseasoned, if I have to find something negative). Daily offer Sangria 1/2 liter 7€ - it's a shame I had to drive 😅 A real tip for us in this lively, great city!

I ate a burger which was tasty but the service was very unpleasant. Before taking the order, the young girl was busy with newly arrived customers while we waited 10 minutes. Before it was our turn, she managed to clean two tables.

Great little canal side bar just far enough away from the main tourist path. Had two giant aperol spritz for a great price and a really decent sandwich that was a fun take on a USA club. Highly recommend!

Excellent place to eat nice atmosphere

We ordered a burger each and without properly telling us, for whatever reason it was not possible, to order a burger without sides after 12 pm. Surprisingly the sides were pretty good, especially the salad. However, that is not what we initially ordered. Furthermore, we waited for a very long time. The main problem was the main dish the burger, which had very decent bread but a bun which was half the burger and which was absolutely raw ! I need to admit, that we ate most of the burger besides the bun, but we waited for a very long time and we were very hungry after a long time spent in Amsterdam. We complained and were offered a free drink each. After the waitress returned she gave us a discount which was the better solution in my point of view. The service was not the problem, but the kitchen, which served minced meat raw. This is not acceptable, as it is not excludable that one could possibly get food poisoning. Big thank you to the waitress but I would not recommend this restaurant. But for the clearance: it is better than the average restaurant in the more busy areas of Amsterdam.

We waited more than 40 minutes outside, after which we asked for news about our dishes, only to be surprised when we were told that the dish we had ordered and long awaited was no longer available. It's not over since when paying separately, the waitress flatly refused that we simply pay for our simple drinks. A deep disappointment.

Real authentic Dutch style pub. Staff seemed welcoming and friendly towards tourists of all ethnicities. Grabbed a Heineken and a club sandwich with chips, my partner had a coke with nachos. Both were absolutely delicious and the nachos were huge! Reasonably priced with great atmosphere.

Als Amsterdammer die graag de wat oudere kroegen bezoekt had ik gisteren een zeer slechte ervaring met een onpersoonlijke niet echt representatieve dame achter de bar . Groep van 9 man waar in korte tijd aardig wat gedronken wordt en als er dan nog een bestelling wordt geplaatst en een van de heren vraagt ‘mevrouwtje’ mogen wij nog wat bestellen waarna de bom barst bij deze zeer ongezellige dame dat zij daar niet van gediend is. De rekening is gelijk betaald en binnen 2 minuten deze kroeg verlaten. Een van de heren vraagt nog wat het probleem nu was , jullie drinken alleen maar bier? En zeggen geen dankjewel.

Wir haben uns durch einen Teil der Karte gefuttert: Bitterballen, Fish & Chips, hausgemachte Hähnchenschnitzel, daneben noch einen Burger sowie einen (wirklich hervorragenden) Ziegenkäsesalat und zum Schluss noch etwas Süßes. Alle frisch, alles sehr lecker und zu empfehlen.

Cosy, local pub and eatery. The dishes are plentiful, tasty and nicely presented. The music is folk a la music Grand Prix pop. Exciting to land in a completely local and overlooked gem.

Inexpensive bar in the heart of Amsterdam. Drinks and food were okay for the price.

I discovered this, my favourite bar in Amsterdam, in the late 80s when a colleague and I came over to my favourite city to write a commissioned script for a comedy show on the BBC. We sat outside the pub by the canal and were fuelled by beer and coffees to keep our creative juices flowing. After about three hours the bar guy came across and put a tray of sandwiches on our table. We told him we hadn’t ordered them and he said “On the house. You guys need to eat too!” Six months later I came to Amsterdam again and called in to the Cafe ‘t Gasthuys and the same barman was behind the bar. “Hi!” he said. “How did your programme go?” I was so impressed that he remembered me I have never missed dining and/or drinking in this hostelry every time I’ve visited Amsterdam (at least twice a year for over thirty five years!). Sadly, he’s no longer there, but the new guy in charge and his staff are very friendly and the food terrific. My sister and I visited yesterday and even though we were eating at our friends’ place in the evening I couldn’t resist the apple pie. As always - lekker! We’re in Amsterdam for two weeks so we’ll be dining in the Gasthuys a few times before our return to the UK.
