Café 't Gasthuys in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

Perfect spot to get a bit to eat and a brew. With outdoor tables canal side which is where I sat. Had the burger & fries, salad, and of course a beer. Service was good, fairly quick, & reasonably priced. Eat while watching several boats big & small pass by. Little bit out of the centre in Rokin area and not as hectic. Definately worth a visit.

Very pleasant place in a beautiful neighborhood @Rokin - not as hectic as the classical city centre, there are all types of seats, great for large groups or couples. During the summer ☀️ there are seats outside next to the canal where the little boats are passing by with cheerful tourists & locals. The inside area is cozy, the staff is friendly and there is a decent selection of food & drinks typical gastropub Amsterdam. Loved this place.

Excellent burger with very tasty meat and sauce! The people working there are very nice and polite and welcoming! The snacks are not that tasty though. They are small and dry.

The food and drinks here are excellent. The selection is good and the prices are fair. The atmosphere is pleasant and it's not too noisy. The staff is very friendly and the restrooms are clean. It's definitely worth a visit.

Good pub for dinner and drink. The food is quite good (better than expected for a pub with food) We ordered bread with spreads (the bread is quite a lot for small portion of spreads) Beefstuck and spareribs (served with salads and fries), they are good taste, personally I find the spareribs is better. Dame blanche (normal ice cream with choco sauce and whippin cream)

Nice place, nice staff, nice beer. What more can you say? Well, the following: A pleasant find near the centre of the 'dam. I was wary of the more 'touristy' cafés/bars one would find near the centre, so was overjoyed to find this establishment. Tucked out of the way with a bustling yet welcoming vibe, this ticked all my proverbial boxes ✅ They say when in Rome, so when in Amsterdam, I partook in a Heineken. With the local water, not that Tadcaster muck, it was a tasty beverage for sure. Chased this up with another local tipple, the Skuumkoppe - yummo! All in all, an awesome time, just what I was looking for ☺️

Gezellig plaatsje midden in de stad. Uitzicht op het water en de mooie gebouwen van de universiteit. Die uitleg kregen we van de vriendelijke serveuze. We dronken hier een lokale Gin en een Limoncello spritz! Leuk, gezellig en rustig. Totaal niet te druk. Even totaal ontspannen! Hier moet je zijn!

If you could give more than 5 stars I would have done so! I have known 't Gasthuys for at least 30 years and used to go there more often when I still lived in Amsterdam than now, since I moved. There is more and more to criticize about the catering industry, a reason for me to go less and then prefer to go to the familiar establishments. Yesterday in 't Gasthuys no predictable service (standard questions and comments) and just good food as I knew it for a remarkably reasonable price: apparently it is still possible, even in the heart of Amsterdam. But that service... wow! What a relief not to hear 'completely good' and 'everything to your liking' and to be addressed 'normally' in Dutch. Again: in the heart of Amsterdam. They take your order without a mobile device (or do so remarkably inconspicuously) and not only remember your order but also put it in front of the right person, both the drinks and the food. Maybe they know it so well because the drinks and food come from the bar and kitchen in no time, no idea, we're not even going to think about that. The way they stood at the table and walked across the (full) terrace was so smooth and with verve as if they had been working here for 30 years. But I can't remember being served by toddlers back then. I heard from a reliable source that a few younger employees recently took over 't Gasthuys. By people who get it, are clearly into it and know how to make your guests happy, thank you! ******

Me gusta este lugar porque está en el centro de la ciudad, pero especialmente en este canal la multitud no es demasiado grande. El lugar podría estar lleno si el tiempo es bueno (fuera), pero la gente rota rápidamente según mi experiencia. Sirven un montón de bebidas alcohólicas, cervezas, cócteles, etc .. y hamburguesas, otra comida rápida, guarniciones, por lo que se recomienda para comer algo también. Mi experiencia fue diferente con el personal. Están sobrecargados de trabajo lo admito, así que siempre corren a algún lugar pero definitivamente no son groseros. We had a family dinner here with about 13 people. Everything was excellently prepared, the food delicious, the service friendly and attentive, and the place very cozy and clean. I've also been there several times for lunch, and it's also been excellent and great value. I think this is the only place in Amsterdam where you can still eat well for a reasonable price and with excellent service. Plus, they have a beautiful terrace next to one of Amsterdam's beautiful canals. You can also simply have a drink here and experience the original atmosphere of a typical, authentic Amsterdam bar. Highly recommended!

To be honest, we went here to eat because there wasn't anything else available nearby. But the food was good. Just home cooking. Burgers, chicken schnitzels and the like.

Very expensive 10e for Ij Wit beer, Not pleasant service, terrible energy. The service is very long, you have to wait for more than 45 minutes. They don’t look at you on purpose, they ignore you when someone looks at you, they don’t notice when you raise your hand, you have to yell or break dishes to get your attention. Buena ubicación, pero como otros han señalado en sus comentarios el personal es muy grosero y desdeñoso. Supongo que cuando estás ocupado está bien. Muy diferente al resto de Amsterdam

Good vibe, cozy and very affordable. Just a cozy brown cafe, but the food is really tasty. No soggy or dry fries. I am pleasantly surprised. Staff is also super nice. I always find Amsterdam a bit... it doesn't feel like my place often... All the tourists and the massiveness. Now in the palace surrounded by grumpy security guards and impressive marble. But the guest house was like coming home. :)

Visité este pequeño lugar durante una visita de un día rápido con mi esposa. Hemos estado en Amsterdam un par de veces, así que sepa qué esperar. El lugar parecía limpio y agradable y voy a notar en este punto que mi crítica no se basa en la comida, no comimos allí. Pedí bebidas para mi esposa y para mí, que el barman confirmó como dos pintas. Después de recibir las bebidas, le pedí amablemente al barman que recargara la una para mí, ya que no estaba cerca de una pinta, era casi un cuarto corto. Él respondió con un "No, lo he tirado ahora y ya está" Le recordé amablemente que sí dijo pinta en el pedido y que lo que me había dado era bien, bien corto. (Especialmente a las 10 . 50 euros). Toda su actitud era extremadamente grosera y degradante. Incluso citó que tal vez debería visitar la cervecería local Heineken para probar que tiene razón. Le recordé que la cervecería Heineken es solo una de las muchas, solo porque son locales no les permite cambiar lo que es una pinta. Era un barman joven así que tal vez aprenda Tengo más de 50 años de edad y he trabajado muchos bares antes en la vida. Traté de explicar lo que era una pinta y que en realidad es una medida (568 ml) en lugar de una cita como cerveza grande. Aprecio que una cabeza pueda participar, pero como puede ver en mi foto, no hay cabeza aquí. Muy decepcionado con lo grosero y arrogante que era el barman, el servicio al cliente extremadamente pobre e incluso condescendiente. A small, simple pub where food is still affordable. I like to come here just to eat good food. It is of course not high quality, but you shouldn't expect that for that price. If you are with a larger group, make sure to make a reservation.

A lovely location, hidden away from busy Rokin, looking over the canals. However, the service was very slow and I'm pretty sure my fish was undercooked. I left the meal feeling unwell, maybe it was a busy and bad day for this place.

The service was very nice, but unfortunately this soup tasted like water. It wasn't zupakrem, but a zucchini-based broth that had no taste.

Nice spot for a drink on the terrace along the canal, they make very good soup, the kitchens close at 10 p.m.

Gran almuerzo! Realmente disfrutamos de nuestra parada de almuerzo aquí. Almorcé sus croquetas que incluían dos croquetas grandes de ternera y ternera, dos rebanadas sustanciales de pan "marrón" muy bueno (como un centeno) y un bocado de lechuga con una rebanada de tomate muy maduro. Las croquetas eran increíbles! Nuestro segundo plato fue un sándwich "Toastie Italiano" de salami, queso, tomate y lechuga a elección de pan. ¡Muy bonito, de hecho! Great lunch! We really enjoyed our lunch stop here. I had their croquettes lunch which included two large veal and beef croquettes, two substantial slices of very good "brown" bread (like a rye) and a bite of lettuce with a slice of beautifully ripe tomato. The croquettes were truly amazing! Our second dish was a "Toastie Italiano" sandwich of salami, cheese, tomato and lettuce on choice of bread. Very nice indeed! Accompanied by a glass of wine our total was just 18 euros...a great bargain! This little pub has a pleasant cozy atmosphere and a staff that delivered great service with a smile. Highly recommended.
