The wait was far too long (even though we were there on a weekday), the food was poor quality, and the portions were too small for the price. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, but it's definitely not the place for brunch.

One of my favorite places in the Netherlands, the service from the owners and staff is excellent. It's one of those places where you could spend hours working on your laptop or chatting with friends. The decor is modern and inviting. I always visit it when I'm in Amsterdam. The prices are good, and the products are great too. Quality, price, and service are guaranteed, and the ambiance adds a lot.

Lovely Breakfast. Fantastic mix of everything along with a freshly squeezed orange juice, fruity yogurt. Best croissant I’ve had in a long time and scrambled eggs with salmon or bacon. Super coffee. We also tried the good for you breakfast with hummus and red pepper sauce. Also delicious. Would definitely recommend.

The food is subpar and overpriced. Additionally, the male owner (or manager) was rude and pushy when I visited.

Anne & Max Oostenburg, our worst experience ever! We chose a table in front of the café and ordered: Two filter coffees A piece of apple pie called “ambachtelijk”, meaning artisan, baked with craftmanship A “mediteraanse Bowl” On our table were dirty dishes from other guests, this was taken away when we asked for it after about 30 minutes. It took ages until the filter coffee arrived, the coffee was lukewarm or cold. The “ambachtelijke” apple tart is an industrial product probably from a freezer. Our bill had to be paid in advance when the coffee arrived. We asked if we might have a bit of milk for our coffee. The lady returned with one mini plastic cup of milk. We were two people with two filter coffees, so we asked for more milk. This milk never arrived. I went inside to ask for a drop of milk and was told that this is the kitchen area and I must ask at the bar area, which I did. After this terrible service and waiting for more than 30 minutes for our bowl, we decided to give up and leave. We went inside to complain and asked to get the money for the bowl back. The miraculous word “het spijt me”, Dutch for “I am sorry” came not over the lips of any of the staff. But the chief of staff or owner appeared, and a big discussion started before we finally got the payment for the bowl back. The owner agreed to return the payment for the bowl, if we would never return to his café. He can be assured that we will never return. And we very much recommend not to visit this unorganised and unfriendly café.

I’ve been here to this location now a third time and have had great experiences until now. Unfortunately, today after ordering online at the table as requested, a vegan version of the eggcellent start the cook comes out and tells me they do not have the vegan version today. I say OK I’ll take eggs and I forgot to ask for scrambled hard as I have a texture thing and cannot eat them wet. So they come out wet and I wait for someone for 15 minutes. No one comes out so I go inside and ask a waiter if they can be remade for me he comes back outside and tells me the chef will throw them back on the skillet. No, I do not want eggs that are going to be rubbery. Then the chef comes out angrily, says to me why didn’t I come to him first that he is always behind the counter however he was at the barista station not at the cooking area after I waited 5 minutes for someone inside and I had already waited 15 minutes for someone outside and then finally went inside to ask for help. Yes, it’s SAIL, yes they are busy but I can’t eat the eggs and he refuses to give me new eggs or a partial refund as I feel sour and want to leave already. I told them “I know you are busy, but I cannot eat these.” Then the nice waitress comes by after discussing this issue with him for about seven minutes which costs them more time and money I guarantee than giving me two more eggs. She says a new vegan version is coming out for me… I said to her, “but he said they didn’t have it and now you have it?” There was no delivery of food while I was there. He obviously just did not want to take the time to make the delicious sauce that comes with the tofu dish. I am extremely disappointed and began crying at the restaurant because I had already been to a different one that day that was closed because of SAIL. The waitress was very kind, but I cannot believe that he refused to make the vegan version because they were too busy snd that he came out angrily to me, even though he had been a nice person the previous two times I had been there. I feel very uncared for and will never come to this location again. I had very warm feelings for this place as I have only been here 7 weeks and the one in Eindhoven was very friendly at all times. It was my “third place,” but honestly, the chef treated me very poorly, that I hate to say it, but I’ll never be back to this one, not that they care, anyways. So I wasted 14 euro on one bite of eggs. Thanks, Anne and Max!

Found this lovely restaurant recommended by Frank's Smoke House just down the street. The husband and wife, Max and Anne, take great pride in all they serve... the soups, spreads, and breads as well as coffees and teas. Love the atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant. I will definitely visit again and again when in Amsterdam.

This is the best coffee in Amsterdam and the staff is very friendly, especially in this cafe, these are wonderful people who create a family atmosphere, I highly recommend it to everyone.

When they say “your living room in the city” they aren’t kidding. This location has a lovely atmosphere and we come here a lot. The food is good and always served with care. It’s quick but comfortable and makes working from here a pleasure as well. Good outdoor areas on both streets give a lot of summer options. Great staff as well!

I've been coming here few times in the past, and overall the coffee is good, the place is spacious and cozy. My opinion of this place has changed since I tried to work from here with my laptop. First I sat outside by the lounge chairs and ordered coffee, but was told that it's not allowed to sit with a laptop in such chair, only by the bigger table (such policy isn't written there, and initially the waiter didn't mention anything when I was ordering coffee, so how was I supposed to know). I agreed to change places, and was moved by the lady working there to a bigger table with 4 places. Then after a while, the owner approached me and asked to move again to a smaller table. This started to feel like a harassment and so I left. I get that not every coffee places like people with laptops, but there are better ways a business can handle this, instead of playing this comedy.

We are obsessed with this place! Every time we come to Amsterdam we have to have brunch here. The food is 11/10 so fresh. There’s not many good food places in Amsterdam, a lot of overhyped places too but this place stands out for sure. Can’t wait to visit again.

Our regular spot when we want to drink coffee together after a walk. So cozy, a really nice place and nice decor. Service is always very nice and attentive.

I hadn't been to Anne & Max for a while, about six months ago and I was shocked by the quality, especially in relation to the price. The scrambled eggs with minimal cubes of zucchini and some cold tomatoes were quite tasteless. A tuft of arugula and some thinly spread hummus next to it and two thin slices of bread, which they say is sourdough, I can't check that but it looked like supermarket bread. Finished all that with a dollop of cottage cheese, good for the proteins, no idea what the purpose was. In summary, a rather loveless plate, which should really be better for €13.

The food taste nice, but the portions are ridiculously small. The juice included with the breakfast was small espresso cup size. And the pancake menu was more like an appetizer. I wouldn't recommend this place because the price doesn't justify the amount of food that you get at all.

The food was wonderful! A must when in town.

Had a latte and an apple tart and honestly the coffee tasted horrible, tasted very milky with no taste of coffee and was very foamy like a cappuccino which is not what I ordered. The apple tart on the other hand tasted lovely. Staff weren't quite friendly either which is what makes the business for me.

Very good food and coffee. It is a nice atmosphere to work. The service is not good though. When I ask for a glass of water while I didn’t order but my 6 friends did, I am expecting to get it without being said « Did you order ? It is not normal, we are not at the library. » Even though I came alone and asked for water, it is a necessary good and I would expect some empathy from the person serving me. Some humanity feels good sometimes !

We were waiting for 2 to go drinks for almost 20 minutes. You should warn people who come for to go drinks in advance that it would take so long. Additionally, my matcha latte had insanely lot of sugar in it, also not something I was warned about in advance.

This Anne&Max café is spacious and attractive, with luxurious seating that is comparable to other Anne&Max locations. I was very happy that they were open on Christmas Day, a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee! As for the cappuccino: the milk foam and the taste were fine, but not comparable to the high standard of Anne&Max on the Oostelijke Handelskade. The barista here seems a little less experienced, although the coffee remains tasty thanks to the organic top quality beans that Anne&Max uses.

Sorry, but having to wait more than 45 minutes (close to an hour, actually) for an ordinary, cold .Club sandwich is just too much. People have other things to do on a Sunday. I understand its busy and its hard to find staff but then at least say sorry or warn people that you are unable to serve an order in an acceptable timeframe....

The ambience and staff are very good. Although it may seem like a white-collar coffee spot, it will be good for those who are stuck in the crowded coffee shops in the city center with its spacious structure.

Not recommended: it took a very long time before I got my food and then I got something completely different than what was on the menu. 'Klutsvrei' with sourdough bread, generously topped with hummus and paprika spread...well no (see the photos for a comparison). First there was no bread at all, then I was given a plate with only bread and I had to explain that there should be a spread on both. Very special, how can you serve this while presenting it very differently on your menu? Scam and it didn't taste good. Would you spend your money somewhere else?

Nice tent and fresh tasty drinks. And the cappuccinos are always good too. But what a disappointment the Nachos from the oven were. Understand that you want to make money, but for almost €11 you can put some more taco chips in the container. This was just pathetic…. Furthermore, it should also be a bit clearer that you can only order via a QR code (which was on the floor under the table with us).

Cafe with really relaxed vibes. Could have spent the entire day chilling watching the world go by! Had a nice homemade tomato soup and an orange & ginger tea which were both great. Partner had sourdough with dips which looked nice. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Everything very clean and tidy. Would love to come back again. October 2024 A pretty large place nicely located. Just went in for a flat white and a piece of apple pie. Had the impression the Apple pie was not freshly baked and had been frozen before ... tast was oke. Staff was attending very friendly and really fast. Ordering by QR code a real advantage.

I initially visited this café for a lovely afternoon lunch and gave it a 5-star rating due to the great experience. However, during my return visit for coffee and a tart while working on my laptop, the atmosphere changed significantly. The owner repeatedly insisted that I order more, which disrupted my experience and was quite off-putting. As a recurring client over the year, I was disappointed by this pressure to consume more. This inconsistency in service has unfortunately led me to reconsider my rating. It’s important for businesses to understand the value of customer satisfaction and trust.

Breakfast galore! 🔋💪🏻 The basket containing all the nutrients needed to face the expensive Dutch days with the right energy! Terrine with evergreen eggs and bacon, for the right protein intake, very tasty 😋 Glass jar with very delicate Greek yogurt, cereal cherry jam, grapes and fresh blueberries... a boom of fresh flavors Croissant... nothing special but ok Cool, healthy and concrete. A guarantee! 👍🏻

Not the most attractive tent.. It's fine to have a quiet coffee with your laptop. What really disappointed me was the acai bowl... It doesn't even look like it. That they dare to serve this. It really ruined my morning.

Normally I'm fine here, not excellent, but this time I had an iced cappuccino to take with me, which I thought would be with ice cubes, that's silly of me; But honestly, one of the nastiest iced coffees I've ever had Tasted like it was made with oat milk, even though I didn't ask for it... too gross for words... I'm not coming anymore.

Just a fantastic place, food and people are so nice. Perfect breakfast, coffee, everything. We were here twice. Wonderful. Go there and enjoy...

The Anne & Max is just unique. The whole crew is friendly, the breakfast was just fabulous. My personal highlight was the cat that does not belong to the restaurant but she’s there from time to time. It’s lovely to have a cup of an amazing tasting flat white coffee and petting the cat. Fore sure a must visit off the busy central. And I also wanna mention the ambience, it’s clean, modern style and great music. It has a very special vibe to it.

What a wonderful place this is. There is clearly a lot of love and attention put into the food, the interior, the music. Delicious lunch and especially the smoothies are highly recommended. Good service too and everything is nice and hygienic. Recommended.

I never leave bad reviews. The owners/employees of this cafe are incredibly obnoxious. I came in, ordered a drink, and sat to work on some schoolwork with plans to order lunch later in the day. In the 1.5-2 hours after I ordered my drink, employees came up to me at least 4 times asking if I would like to order anything else, eventually resulting in one saying I couldn’t expect to stay the whole day just ordering one drink. I left a few minutes later, deciding not to order food anymore because I felt uncomfortable and didn’t want to give them any more business. I would have come in regularly and ordered drinks and food the next few months, but now will never return. The whole time I was there, there were maybe 10-15 other people in the cafe and over 40-60 open seats. For a cafe to advertise free wifi/laptop use etc and be relatively empty, this is bizarre - and regardless, to order a drink and spend 2 hours at a cafe is a normal expectation/activity.

Good but very slow service no spoon no napkin

Not a coffee house for all residents of the neighborhood. Pure gentrification I find it regrettable that, first of all, ordering two cappuccinos to-go on a Sunday morning around 9am takes forever. Secondly, that the large version is super small so you have more foam than coffee in your cup, thirdly, that the coffee was lukewarm and fourthly, I paid €9.20 for it. What if it was quick service that you paid for or delicious hot coffee that sometimes runs out in one sip. Or that you will be entertained while making coffee. None of that From now on, I will make sure that coffee is well stocked at home.

We loved Anne&Max! We came twice on our recent trip to Amsterdam. The food is very healthy, filling, and affordable! The music is chill and really adds to the ambiance. I like that the space is big with a variety of seating options from tables to couches! The final and best part about this place is the friendliness of the staff. Anne and Max themselves are the kindest people! The recognized us the second time we came and made an effort to talk to us and get to know where we were from! We had the best experience and we really enjoyed our meals. If you want a planet friendly meal in good ambiance, in a quiet beautiful cafe, I highly recommend taking the time to visit Anne&Max!

The food here is good and the atmosphere is good - it's a great place to come to work and there are plenty of seats and lots of windows so you get a lot of light. But the service is never as good as I hope. I've come pretty often and everytime it takes forever to get the coffee, and maybe nobody comes to your table at all. Today my coffee took about 20 minutes and my sandwich took about 45 minutes and nobody apologized or even acknowledged the wait. On a few different occasions I've come up to the coffee bar to ask a question, and you can literally stand directly in front of the workers and they don't even acknowledge you or look at you. I find it very strange. I keep coming back hoping it will be better but most of the time I'm pretty disappointed by the service.

I went in for about 20 minutes between 2 appointments to have a cup of coffee and work on my laptop. Unfortunately, someone only came by after 10 minutes to take the order. So I kindly thanked you, because I had to move on quickly. Then the manager comes up to me and publicly starts a whole discussion about how I should have called someone earlier or walked to the bar. If you want to sell coffee, I think you should send your servers to the table sooner. This is very unfortunate.

Just wanted to thank Enid and Flip for looking after Tom and i for breakfast during February while we were at a conference. Because the conference started early we were there at the opening time. I recommend the drip coffee and the yogurt and granola (kept me going and was the healthiest meal i had all day). We loved the cat even though it didn't love us

Extremely disappointed with this branch. Slow service, waited for more than 25 mins for a coffee. The middle aged blonde lady looked so confusing about the orders and obviously not trained for making drinks. Coffee was bitter and didn't taste good at all.

the large coffee is very small the take aways! priceyyy, space is quite big and cake and pastries are not worth it for the price... czaar peterstraat coffee shops have better to offer never again...

Owner approached me after being there 3 hours and told me in quite an unfriendly manner that I’ve been sitting for a long time and I haven’t ordered anything recently. This was after I had ordered a croissant sandwich, a latte and a pot of tea. So I ordered 1 item per hour, probably more than other customers on average. I’ve NEVER been approached in this manner at a cafe. If there is an expectation of a time limit or order minimum, it should be communicated clearly, not in this rude, unfriendly manner. And anyway, I did order several items in the time I was there. And there was plenty of open seating, so there wasn’t any issue of other customers waiting. You cannot have a successful business if you are so unwelcoming to your customers. I would not recommend supporting this business.

Terrible service - waited for two simple black coffees for 25 minutes, the lady making the coffee was clearly not trained in working as a barista, which can happen however: the other employees were stood around doing nothing.

Altijd lekker eten en drinken bij Anne & Max. Wel is het soms wat aan de prijzige kant maar de bediening is altijd goed en je krijgt er lekker eten en drinken. De ambience is altijd mooi, netjes en onderhouden. Deze Anne & Max zit nog niet heel lang op dit adres maar bij alle zaken van deze onderneming geldt het voorgaande. De wc op dit adres is zeer ruim en op een paar mis schieters bij de urinoir is het schoon. Ook is deze wc rolstoelvriendelijk met de bijbehorende beveiliging langs de vloer randen. Ik kom altijd graag bij Anne & Max filialen en zo ook bij deze. Een hele mooie en fijne plek om een hapje en drankje te nuttigen.

We just had coffee here one morning, but the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating to us (Americans, first-time visitors to Amsterdam). And the coffee was excellent.
