Argentinian Steak Ancho in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

This people or dont care about food and shouldnt be running a restaurant or they just dont care about customers. I am still sick since i ate their nachos and i couldnt even stand the smell of the chickenwings so thank god i didnt try them.

The meat was delicious, it's a good place to eat, but the staff were clueless and made us wait an hour, forgot our order, and brought us something we didn't ask for.

My partner and I visited Argentinian Steakhouse Ancho using a Social Deal voucher. The deal gave us several dishes to choose from. My partner opted for the steak, while I chose the ribs. Unfortunately, we didn’t really get the impression that the staff were particularly happy to have us there. Even though we speak Dutch, the entire conversation had to take place in English, despite being in Amsterdam. The lady serving us also seemed to have some difficulty understanding our order, which unfortunately resulted in me receiving a different main course than the one I had ordered. I had chicken wings as a starter and ordered ribs as my main course. Instead, I received another portion of chicken wings together with some ribs, so I essentially ended up eating chicken wings twice. My partner’s steak was tasty, while I found the ribs a little dry. Overall, the experience wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t particularly memorable either. Based on our experience, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend visiting through Social Deal. The à la carte experience might be completely different, but our visit unfortunately didn’t convince us to return.

After waiting an hour for our “starter,” we were served a Coca-Cola in the meantime from their own-brand bottle. While we were receiving the starter, it was tasteless and we saw cockroaches crawling on the walls.. the waitress wasn't surprised and indicated that she was scared too, chased the creature away with a napkin, and offered us another table.. never again!! What a filthy place!! People live up there too, because there was a constant coming and going!

We were the second table in the room and waited an hour to eat just one Milanese each. Furthermore, the low price of the dish was offset by the cost of water, €4.50 for a half-liter bottle. Highly not recommended.

The 5 star reviews on this place have got to be bots or sell outs. Horrible, bland food, from the steak to fried chicken to rice and beans. Everyone at our table ordered something different and none of it was good. The food wasn’t entirely overpriced, but they made up for that by charging 5.50 euro for each cup of soda, for which they poured straight out of a 2 liter bottle. The worst part was watching them hand over bills, and realizing they overcharged the two tables in front of us. Just as we expected our bill came with extra charges on drinks we didn’t order. Watch out for this tourist trap, and definitely watch your bill.

The service was extremely slow. It took over an hour for our food to arrive, and unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The chicken was overcooked, extremely dry, and had a tough, leathery texture. We were also overcharged on our bill, and when we pointed out the mistake, the waitress became upset instead of handling it professionally. To make matters worse, the restaurant charges $5.50 for a soda, which is excessive. The restroom had no hand soap, and the doors were visibly dirty, raising concerns about cleanliness. Overall, the experience was not worth the money. Between the poor service, disappointing food, billing issues, and lack of cleanliness, I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

What a horrible place. They bring you in with great prices on food. We walked in and waited over 40 minutes for the food. The food pretty much sucked. The ribs tasted horrible, the chicken was super dry. After all of that when the bill came we were charged €5.50 per coca-cola, and they tried to charge for two extra drinks. When confronted with the mistake, the lady was very upset at our group! No Air conditioning and the restrooms had no soap. Place felt dirty too!! Stay away!!

It gives the impression that the restaurant is simply a front for a brothel, where dozens of people come and go while you wait for your food. The food took about half an hour and was a supermarket pizza, raw on one side and burnt on the other. It didn't taste good, and we had to send it back. We started hearing shouting upstairs, and I stumbled upon an explicit scene. A very unpleasant surprise.

Only came here on the off chance as the Mexican a few doors down had stopped food service, was very good and steak cooked to perfection amd good portions. The service was excellent with the team very happy to help and checking in all of the time. Bloody lovely

The staff were unpleasant. I ordered a mixed grill and it was awful—greasy meat, not good at all. The Roquefort sauce was watery, a layer of grease... Disgusting... honestly, avoid this place.

Professionalism and delicious meat!

Unfortunately, there's no zero-star rating option. The restrooms were filthy, there were empty bottles on the floor, and a cat was by the counter. Sadly, we had already ordered, but we'd lost our appetite.

If you want diarrhea, you should definitely come here. For the steak, you might as well have thrown a shoe sole in the pan without spices like black pepper and salt, since they apparently don't use those either. Half a tomato without dressing and large slices of lettuce. She might as well have dumped a whole head of iceberg lettuce on top. Otherwise, the cola was tasty and the atmosphere itself was quite cozy. The service was also fine.

HORRIBLE!!! (from someone who never leaves reviews) To begin with, the restaurant has the same name as the one next door. They just reversed the words. If you see positive reviews, it's most likely from people who came to the wrong website… They have "two restaurants" side by side, and it's easy to fall for it because the man seems very friendly and sells his restaurant well. When we sat down, we were given a menu, and the prices were outrageous. €4.50 for 50cl of spa water. We were alone in the restaurant; the woman was always sitting behind us at a table instead of in the kitchen. When our food arrived, we tasted it, but it was inedible. It's frozen food. Nothing is made by them. We also found an insect in the iced tea we were served. When it came time to pay, we decided to split the bill into four, and I could tell that bothered them. I stood my ground. I later realized he was adding extra dishes and that splitting the bill would make us more careful. As we were leaving, the man pretended one of my friends hadn't paid. He had just paid, and he showed him the charge on his bank account. It was difficult to leave because he wanted my friend to pay twice. In short, it was a DISASTER!!! I do not recommend it.

Terrible, dirty atmosphere, and the lady/waitress sitting there watching you move. The food arrived that I can't decipher, but it was awful! The hair on my plate was the icing on the cake! I wouldn't go back even if they gave it to me for free!

Visited this restaurant expecting a proper steak experience, but it was very disappointing. The steak was really chewy and not as described on the menu. The food overall was bland and it lacked flavour. The whole restaurant also felt neglected, dirty, poorly maintained and generally uncared for. Wouldn’t recommend this place .

We ordered a steak (I asked for blue steak and that's how they made it; it's rare that they've made it exactly as I request). It was incredible, the meat was super tender and the charcoal flavor gave it a special touch. Friendly service.

Had a great meal through the Social Deal. The steak I ordered was good, but you have to pay extra for everything (sauce, fries, etc.). A beer was over €4. The cappuccino was surprisingly good, which is important as a finishing touch.

Decent food and service but when we asked for water we got two water bottles and we asked for tap water instead since we hadn’t opened the bottles and we were told that it would not be possible to remove the bottles from the system. Ended up being charged an extortionate €4.50 EACH for one tiny bottle of water. Very disappointing.

Super expensive; you end up paying more than you thought because “you didn’t ask for the smallest one”. Small portions. Clearly a tourist trap.

Nice restaurant with nice service

Not immediately inviting from the outside, but once inside, this restaurant turns out to have very friendly service and very good steaks. Different cuts of the cow, and it's also nice that they can explain the differences between the various cuts. Had a lovely meal, thank you!

We stopped here by chance and we had the steak with chips and salad for lunch. The food was delicious, served quickly and the wine was nice as well. Price, quality and atmosphere were great. It was spacious and quiet so we could actually talk to each other unlike other places. Would recommend coming here!

The starter was okay. The steak was large and well-cooked, the dessert was very bad, there were chunks in the ice cream. No cassis, no banana split, no dame blanche, mediocre service.

I was surprised when I saw the price list and I was afraid of the quality, but when the food was brought, it was excellent and the quantity was very large. I recommend going to the restaurant.

I thought I'd have a nice evening at Restaurant Ancho. Last Friday, I booked a 3-course meal through Social Deal. Well, it was terrible; there was only one waitress. We waited 30 minutes for drinks. Then, a good hour for my starter, and I even got the wrong one. Then, after 40 minutes, I still hadn't received my main course, so I asked. It wasn't even on the grill yet; it was steak, so it wasn't that big of a deal. So, I spent over 2 hours in the restaurant and only received the wrong starter. We told the waitress we were leaving because we had other appointments and I didn't have time to sit in a restaurant for 4 hours. The poor woman also kept hiring people instead of turning them away, even though they couldn't handle it! People also experience walking out. We lost our money and, hungry, ended up getting a sandwich at the Albert Heijn supermarket at the train station. Very disappointing!

We had a wonderful meal with our family. The meat, in particular, was cooked perfectly. Delicious spare ribs.

Even dogs wouldn't eat it. It's terrible. Don't go here just for the cheap price; there are many similar places nearby. The music is good, and the flies and mosquitoes are dancing around.

We visited this venue as it stated it served gluten-free pizza, this was supported by the menu but the staff insisted that they did not serve it, only pasta. I had the pasta and it was lovely. My daughter had pizza which was large and delicious. It is on the pricier side and I do not believe that it offers value for money. As a restaurant in the heart of the Red Light District you would have expected it to be busier but there was only one other table at around 8.30pm. It is an ok place. Needs to ensure its menu matches its offerings.

We reserved a table through Social deal, but it was all just a weird experience. The atmosphere and vibes in the restaurant were very odd. It was dusty and dirty, (especially the toilets) and the people who worked there were kind, but not professional. Staring while you eat your food, forgetting people's orders and which table ordered what (they didnt write any orders down, just memorized it.) And the food was bad. The food wasnt enjoyable at all. We ordered 2 salads with mango, chicken and hearts of palm and 2 portions of bbq chicken wings. The salads were just two big piles of cheap lettuce with 5 pieces of what we assumed were canned mangos and 5 strips of dry chicken filet and there were no signs of hearts of palm. The chicken wings also came in portions of 3, also on a pile of the cheap lettuce, and just tasted like chicken wings that you get from the freezer in the supermarket with cheap bbq sauce poured on top. As main dishes we had 2 steaks and 2 portions of lambchops, all 4 dishes were just dry, tough to chew and some pieces of lambchops were burnt. And all these dishes also came with the same cheap lettuce on the side, none of the 'salads' we received had any kind of dressing on it as well. The chimmichurri sauce we ordered with the food was also incredibly oily, didnt taste like chimmichurri at all and had a bit of an old taste to it. The food overall was just dissapointing. As dessert we had 4 dame blanches, none of which came with chocolate sauce even though it was mentioned on the menu that it did have chocolate sauce. It was a bad experience and I dont recommend coming here.

The worst experience in the Amsterdam . It was really baaaad, i am writing almost still good reviews, but here is not possible. Service guy was really unfriendly and quality of the food was one big disaster. Tomato soup from can ..... Fajitas where was not possible to cut the meat, it was really hard. And pasta ? No need to write something. It was one big mistake....always check the quality of thw restaurant by google.maps. Aaaaach.. this is not restaurant.... it is expensive VISIT TRAP

My honest review: I didn’t like the restaurant at all. There was no sense of professionalism in how the food was served, and the ingredients didn’t go well together. We ordered two different cuts of steak — one top sirloin and one ribeye — and were shocked to receive what seemed to be the exact same cut for both. To be honest, we even doubt if the meat served qualifies as any real steak cut. The steak was far from what I would consider a proper steak. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, and I will definitely not return. It deserves zero stars — I truly hate paying a high price for such a disappointing experience.

Booked through a social deal, but the food presentation wasn't ideal; it was served with just some iceberg lettuce without dressing. A staff member sat down at an empty table halfway through, his phone at full volume. And our waitress disappeared outside.

The steak was cooked on high temperature or recently taken out of fridge cuz it wasn’t cooked and was cold on the middle. I ask for medium but got an uncooked one

What can I say, it tasted good and the price was right too.

Shrimp tasted strange and smelled very raw. Chicken enchiladas were pale and bland, had little seasoning and only had onions and a few peppers with it inside. The cream served with it was not sour cream, it was regular cream. Beans were just boiled beans, no seasoning and tasted strange.

Besides the fact that the waitress practically met us at the door and kept coming to the table to ask if we were going to order yet, even though she saw that we were choosing. The food is excellent.
