Domenica in Jordaan

Discovered by chance online, given the excellent reviews, my partner and I decided to try it during our stay, right on Christmas Eve. We booked from Italy in advance, and it was a wonderful discovery that exceeded all expectations: we were pampered by a top-quality tasting menu, exquisite food, and an excellent wine list, all carefully selected and personally curated by the owners Flavio and Gian Luca, whose friendliness and helpfulness are hallmarks. You can immediately sense their extensive experience in the sector. The kitchen and dining room staff are fantastic: knowledgeable, prompt, and helpful, never intrusive. Five stars is not enough, absolutely recommended. It's located downtown in a quaint area, and it would be lovely to try it on a summer day when they have an outdoor seating area right in front. Booked in advance, easy, 40€ deposit that deducted from the bill later. My BF recommend place he was few years ago. Thats my review and experience. Michelin star, but I disagree for service also follows this rating. 4 waters coming to you asking same question, none explained the menu, none informed that lobster salad will be oily as literally you have bread stacked in Greasy oil. Didn’t enjoy it even for a second. Heart was served primally rare, more rare than I could even imagine I would eat in my life. None asked about level we prefer, shamefully. Vitello tonnato absolutely to go to this place for. 10/10. Service must be (!) improved; menu should be explained, and I won’t accept waiving for the order in any place especially Michelin. Disappointed not to say More. Luckily i haven’t seen my friend few years so we had a lot to catch up On so despite of service we were still happy seeing each other and very hungry till that time. (Btw, I have booked the place and my friend has 20 years in 5* hospitality Food and beverage, and in high level management, she was laughing after leaving the place) Hope you do something about that.

We had a lovely evening. We chose the 5-course menu. The flavors were exquisite. Compliments to the service; our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the speed at which the dishes were served.

A mixed experience. We were sitting seat-to-seat with the people behind us. The non-Dutch-speaking staff couldn't quite grasp what we were eating. One of our tablemates was very pleased with the pappardelle. Three of us had ravioli. The first found the flavor too bland, the second okay, and the third something less than okay. The ratings were 6, 6.5, and 7. One of us had the turbot, and only the tail was edible. The rest was inedible. Disappointing. The dark chocolate dessert was good. It was annoying that one of us ordered a cappuccino, which didn't arrive. She was given a spoon... We had to ask for the cappuccino separately. The thankfully clear menu was written in various languages, including Dutch, Italian, and English. I can make myself understood, but not in Italian. And there was no translation. The extensive, pretentious wine list was more reminiscent of a French or Italian Michelin-starred restaurant. A limited number of wines are available by the glass. But €15 or €20 for a glass of wine is truly ridiculous. The wine was fine, but you can find excellent wines on the market for (less than) half the price. Conclusion: a pretentious place that overprices and doesn't deliver. We won't be returning.

Best meal I had in Amsterdam! My girlfriend and I ate at Domenica during a trip to Amsterdam a few weeks back. We made a reservation for the bar on a Friday night and were seated promptly when we arrived by a very welcoming host. We sat down, ordered wine, and both opted for one of the two tasting menus (we opted for the non-truffle menu, though we saw the dishes and those looked great too). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, from a delicate fried prawn to homemade pasta, savory beef, finally dessert. The courses of the tasting menu were well-paced and well-portioned. Additionally, the whole staff from host to servers to the kitchen were incredibly nice and welcoming. I highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal in Amsterdam. I know I'll be back if I ever find myself in Amsterdam again.

We had reserved a table with no closing time for Sunday lunch. We had barely finished eating when we were asked to move to the terrace (6 degrees Celsius in the rain) because our table was needed for another reservation. The bill and the card reader were shoved in front of me in one go. There wasn't even time to check the bill. The price-quality ratio could be much better. The starters were fine, but very small portions. For our main course, we ordered a turbot for €125. It came with a small bowl of salad, cabbage, and potatoes. When we asked for extra salad and potatoes, we were told they were almost gone but that we would get an extra-large plate of cabbage instead. The cabbage portion was just as small as the first round, and we were charged €10 for it. A recommended open wine was €15 per glass. Espresso was €6.40. These are the prices you pay in Amsterdam these days, but you do expect good service and not to be ignored while the next reservation is waiting. This restaurant relies heavily on its charming ambiance and beautiful location on the Noordermarkt. And certainly not on its service and value for money. Italian hospitality is nowhere to be found. It's a shame.

We spent a good two hours as a couple. Everything was very good to high-class. The dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The service was very good, attentive, multilingual, and quick. They had a large wine list, but the wine was a bit too expensive (15€ per glass). Reservations are absolutely necessary and are only accepted with a 40€ deposit. That's not ideal. Nevertheless, we would gladly return.

Great place but 3 stars instead of 5. First and foremost, the toilets are really poorly cleaned and maintained. This restaurant is in the Michelin guide for goodness sake. Terrible. Then; when you serve a bottle of wine and you know it’s the last one, let customer know. And do not recommend a “similar wine” at twice the price! Finally, kudos for the fact they took one of the bill but three tarbot that were seriously undercooked is too many. Also, when you have a 5 course tasting menu don’t ask customers who have booked a table at 21.30 not to order it as it “takes really long”. We had a good evening but things can be improved,

The welcome was very warm, the food excellent - the vitello tonnato has never been so wonderful, only the menu could be a bit more extensive.

I’ve been here 3 years ago and I had a great experience for dinner. Today I was there for lunch, and I must say it wasn’t as memorable as before. I wanted to order the bone marrow it wasn’t available (yet! because they just opened-for a Bib restaurant this is not a valid excuse in my opinion, but maybe I am wrong) and I ordered the ravioli with pumpkin (it was such a sweet taste I couldn’t finish it. When I was asked how was it and I was honest with my response “yes, but it’s with pumpkin!” Indeed, but you can balance the taste by changing the cheese sauce …anyway! I let it go, it was my choice so I accepted it (I could have chosen something else) Then we asked for dessert and I pointed out with my finger saying “pavlova” and when I said to the girl that brought it this is not pavlova the guy who took my order had the audacity to come to me and tell me “I will change it for you but you said tart!” This literally pissed me off and ruined my whole lunch date (especially because today was a special day for me to celebrate) Anyhow, I hope things will get back as they used to be as this is not acceptable for a restaurant

My favorite place to eat in Amsterdam

A favourite place to bring friends and colleagues for a few years now. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the courtesy shown at the table. Always lively and jovial inside. I think I like the attention to small details the most and this is where service excels. The staff are attentive but not ‘in your face’ attentive. They are there when you need them. The wine selection is spot on. This time we left it to the maitre’d to select for us. One of our group had the tasting menu selected by Chef… just divine. The menu selection is broad but carefully curated to appeal to all tastes. The price range is mid and good value but to be honest, the taste and presentation far surpasses. Every visit to Domenica’s has been memorable and will remain a firm favourite.

Had a fantastic evening. The 5-course dinner was delicious, with lovely wines and superb service. Truly fantastic!

Good food - good service - sometimes can take a while but hey we're in amsterdam!

The staff repeatedly argued with us and kept unnecessarily reminding us of the reservation's closing time. The confirmation already stated we had two hours—perfectly fine—but there was absolutely no need to: 1. call about this in the afternoon, 2. repeat this upon arrival, 3. mention it again after the starter, 4. and then start a discussion about it. To be clear: we respected the maximum time and were perfectly on schedule. The problem was the way this was repeatedly emphasized, which made us feel very unwelcome. When we pointed this out, we received no understanding, just a series of "yes, but" responses. The final straw was that they even wanted the table cleared 15 minutes early to re-set. All of this made the service downright poor and unprofessional. The food and wine were fine, but because of the way we were treated, we will definitely not be returning.

What terrible service! We were called in advance to say we could arrive earlier because the table had to be cleared at 8:30. This already felt a bit strange. Upon arrival, we were seated and shown a table. Several waiters were at the table, and the food was nothing special and very salty. Once at the table, within an hour, we were told to keep an eye on the time because the next shift was arriving. So we had to leave the table at 8:15. We told them, which, again, came across as pushy and didn't feel hospitable as feedback. The lady started arguing with us, which I don't think was very polite, considering we were the guests. The tone was set for the evening. We then paid (we didn't have time for dessert and didn't feel like it either). What's clear to us is: we will never return.

We had an amazing Italian Dinner. Great food and fine selection of wine and champagne. Service could improve a bit(i understand that it can get busy) but bringing wrong appetizers and waiting for 30-40 minutes on mains can sometimes feel agitated. Plus the spacing of between tables were tight. I hope that can be improved but overall the staffs were amazing and accommodating. Food quality was good. We will come back for sure.

This is a total Italian gem in hart of Jordaan. I have been coming to this place for 3 years now, and it never dissapoints. I bring my familly, friends and even work partners here for dinners and celebrations. The wines are excellent and food is truly Italian, like most of their staff. Atmosphere is lovely and relaxed, with very friendly and accommodating staff.

Too expensive. The food is average. Understaffed. Boring dishes.

Great food. Beautiful location. I think they once had a Michelin star. There were a few things that made me think... well. It was a bit of a mess. Paint peeling off the restroom door. Paper tablecloths covering the linens. The staff regularly had to walk back or fetch a colleague. Not a problem at all, just the pretensions were higher than the quality of service.

This is a lovely place in the city. The service is great, and the food and beverages are outstanding. I would 100% recommend this place for fun with friends or even a romantic night.

One of the worst interactions I’ve ever had as a guest. I arrived alone and politely asked for a table. Instead of simply seating me, the server (she was nice ) told me to speak to the owner. When I did, the owner was incredibly rude and dismissive. Completely unprofessional and unwelcoming. Honestly, a disgusting experience—I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Update for Wednesday evenings: Still fanstastic. Old: Excellent lunch. Went here for Sunday lunch and where not disappointed, friendly staff and excellent well prepared dishes. Had some bone marrow with toast as a starter which was really good. The carbonara in between perhaps the best I've ever had. Also had some white asperges which were excellent. If you go a chance would definitely try to go here.

Last Sunday the four of us had lunch at Domenica, what a great place. Super relaxed friendly and attentive service. First we sat down at a table inside (beautiful interior) and asked if we could sit outside if a spot became available. After ordering a glass of wine and dishes we were quickly escorted outside by the owner where they had a beautiful white table set for us. Really delicious food and what was even better was the relaxed and attentive service. They make you feel completely welcome and that you absolutely do not have to look at your watch to make sure you have to leave on time. Absolute recommendation, and we will definitely come back. Bad service. At the end of the evening we got a glass of limoncello from the house, which was then added to the bill. When we said something about this, they reacted very aggressively and denied everything. In short, if you want to be ripped off, you should eat here!

Yes, the food is good - and the location of the restaurant is amazing. But next to being able to serve good food operating a restaurant also needs to include some hospitality. And we both missed that completely. I have never felt so unwelcome.

We visited Domenica last year for my birthday dinner and we had a great experience. Therefore we decided to re-visit the restaurant this weekend for a birthday lunch. The service was quite slow and at time careless even though the restaurant was not full at all (only the terrace was fully booked) and there were 3 servers + floor manager covering the whole area. As an example we asked the bread 3 times before it was brought to us. The atmosphere was okay. What ruined it for us was a big table making a lot of noise right behind us. What struck me was that one of the people belonging to the table was either an owner or part of the management of the restaurant, being so focus on their experience they actually manage to affect negatively the experience of others. The food was good, but oddly overpriced for what we actually had. Since at lunch apparently the Chef's menu is not available, we opted for the Sunday roast. Prices are not available for this, so we just decided to share the Cote de Boeuf. We ended up paying €110 for 1 steak to share with a little salad and some chips. When the bill arrived I was quite flabbergasted to see 3 numbers next to 1 Sunday Roast. To wrap up, the lack of attention to details from the service, the lack of awareness of the guests, and the increasing prices with declining food quality made sure that this will be our last visit to Domenica for at least another year.

We had a pretty disappointing experience here. The A La Carte food looked incredible to be honest, but we had the 5 Course Chef’s menu which was very disappointing although it looked very nice! The staff was clearly overwhelmed/understaffed, but the atmosphere in the restaurant is super nice, great vibe and great terrace! Sadly my partner took home food poisoning. The restaurant offered us a free bottle of wine on our next visit. Thank you but no thank you.

We really didn't like the food and were really disappointed. In addition, for these prices (and the mandatory deposit) you can no longer tell people to leave after 2 hours, that is simply not hospitable.

Very unfriendly host and half glasses of wine

Didn't have a pleasant experience. The service was not what you expect. The waitress could not explain the first two courses. The wine pairing was also explained properly only once. What has turned out to be a big downer is the bill. It was 300 euros for 2 pax. A wine pairing was not offered here as a set menu as I am used to, but a glass of wine was charged 5 times for 15-20 euros per glass. When I complained about this I was told that I should have said that I had to order half glasses. The feedback was treated a bit arrogantly by the man who came across as the manager. Understandably they lost the library.

We had the five course tasting menu and it really was delicious! The courses were diverse, well balanced and pared well with eachother. The staff were also very friendly and made extra efforts to accomodate us regularly throughout the evening. Can highly reccomend!

Impeccable food. This is one of the very few restaurants in Amsterdam where you can eat top-quality food cooked freshly for lunch. I don't usually eat pasta in restaurants, but the Primi course is a real treat.

Domenica is probably our favorite Italian restaurant in the neighborhood at this point. The staff is always warm and welcoming, the food is exceptional, and we always leave looking forward to our next visit.

The ambience and decor is lovely! Unfortunately it is over priced and the servers are a bit rude. Had the ravioli as the main and it was so oily, we couldn’t finish the dish. After hearing all the hype, sorry to say it was a disappointment.

The food was very tasty, but unfortunately the quality of the service lagged behind. Host was inattentive and did not feel the evening. When he entered, he was standing behind a desk and was busy with the iPad. Didn't say anything and were only helped after 5 minutes. Didn't take us to the table/bar. We ordered 3 courses and then we were asked if we wanted 5 courses because then they could still arrange and move something (with regard to the shift). Not done. At the end of the shift, this man brought the bill (yes, we had a time slot, but there were no new guests for our table/bar yet) while we had not yet finished our digestif. Even our coat was brought without asking (bag was forgotten) and placed next to us at the bar. When we left we were again not said goodbye. Not worth repeating unfortunately.

Everything was spectacular from start to finish! The service was great they were very warm, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. A big thanks to Elena! The food was amazing! From the oysters, to the burrata, the bone marrow langoustine, the tempura flowers, the ravioli and cote de boeuf! The meats were cooked amazingly and the oysters were juicy all the way from Zealand. For dessert we had the affogatos with hazelnut ice cream and the lemon tart which were spectacular!

Hartelijke ontvangst,frisse ruimte ,prachtige open keuken. We waren met een groot gezelschap. De ruimte geeft voldoende mogelijkheid om apart te kunnen zitten. We aten voortreffelijke amuses, ( een soort varkenszult en gerookte varkenshaas) daarna deelden we Vitello tonato, tomaat met mozarella,ceviche van zeebaars en warme hamachi stukjes. Tussendoor werd er spaghetti opgediend met gerookte sardines. Heel spannend was,dat we het alleen met een vork moesten eten. Het hoofdgerecht was sappige zwartpootkip en tot slot kregen we een heerlijke,machtige mousse van pure chocolade met kumqat. Er stond gedurende de hele maaltijd lekker brood op tafel,en er werden bijzonder lekkere wijnen geschonken. We hebben allemaal genoten. Wat een lieve sommelier.

Wat een grap. Trap er niet in! We hadden gereserveerd om 18:00 uur en arriveerden keurig 10 minuten eerder. Je zou denken dat dat een warm welkom waard is, maar bij Domenica blijkt dat niet het geval. In plaats daarvan kregen we een soort semi-goedkeuring om plaats te nemen in een volledig leeg restaurant. Teken aan de wand? Over die wand gesproken: de muur waartegen ons tafeltje stond, zat onder de vlekken en etensresten van de vorige tafelgasten. Charmant is anders. Maar goed, we waren er voor het eten, toch? De bruschetta arriveerde en leek qua smaakbeleving het niveau van een droge toast bij de koffie niet te ontstijgen. En dat brood? Taai. Als zelfs dát basiselementje van bruschetta al niet goed zit, dan weet je hoe laat het is. Het hoofdgerecht bood iets meer verlossing, maar voor de prijs die je ervoor betaalt, verwacht je toch een niveau dat verder gaat dan ‘enigszins beter’. De bediening? Ach ja, laten we zeggen dat ze de kunst van telepathie verwachten: wil je wijn? Steek een stadionfakkel in je zak want andere signalen pikken ze niet op. Het hoogtepunt van de avond was zonder twijfel het afscheid van de “gastheer”. Geen fooi geven – want ja, dat voelde niet echt verdiend – wordt bij Domenica niet gewaardeerd. In plaats van enige zelfreflectie werd ons direct de jas in de schoot geworpen, met de duidelijke boodschap: “Wegwezen.” Wat maakt het uit dat je nog met een vol glas wijn aan tafel zit? Hier word je naar buiten gewerkt alsof je een sluitingstijd van een halfuur hebt overschreden. Kortom: als je ooit zin hebt in een avond vol smakeloze gerechten, kille sfeer en gastheer die je liever kwijt dan rijk is, dan is Domenica je plek. Voor iedereen met een greintje eigenwaarde: loop met een grote boog om deze tent heen.

Very delicious dinner. Roasted bone marrow, a fish sashimi (I forget exactly), steak with asparagus, gnochi and a berry crumble with pistachio ice cream. We sat on the patio for dinner. It was a very nice dinner to have in a relaxed setting. The server was also very good, she was attentive, explained the dishes to the appropriate detail. I would visit regularly if I lived in Amsterdam!

Domenica provided an exceptional dining experience. I made a reservation in advance, and everything was perfect. Although their menu is concise, each dish features fresh, high-quality ingredients. I appreciate that the menu likely changes with the seasons and product availability, adding a dynamic touch. The staff was incredibly kind, engaging, and attentive, enhancing our enjoyment. The food was extraordinary, offering a symphony of flavors. I eagerly anticipate returning and highly recommend this restaurant.

Come here more often, very good kitchen and nice bar.. Furniture is a little in need of replacing.. We have a solution for that ;-)

Extremely poor service. We got in around 20:00 but it seemed that they wanted us to be gone as soon as possible. One of the waiters smelled terrible (combination of sweat and bad breath). We got the three course menu but no one of the three waiters that served us told us what we got on our plates. They just put it on the table and walked away. We had to ask the waiters to come back and explain what we were going to eat. Moreover, we bought two bottles of wine +- 100€ each. The smelly waiter who was supposed to be the one to have some wine knowledge could only MISread the information on the label.

Good food, great service, and a very cozy atmosphere. I'd definitely be back.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance while walking down the street, looking for a place to have lunch. Outside, there was a sign that mentioned "Michelin," and as we entered, we realized it wasn’t actually a Michelin-starred restaurant, but we decided to give it a try. The host was a bit condescending and unpleasant, but after looking at pictures of the dishes on Google, they seemed decent enough, so we decided to stay. At the table, we were greeted by a cheerful, friendly red-haired waitress who explained the menu and recommended the chef’s tasting menu, which included a starter, main course, and dessert for about €50 per person. She suggested a few specific items, and we understood that this was part of the deal, so we decided to go for it. For the starter, we had sea fish tartare, which was quite nice overall, although the turmeric flavor felt out of place and overpowered the dish. However, the bresaola we ordered was absolutely exceptional—an outstanding dish! For the main course, we received the fish of the day: red sea bass with mussels and mushrooms. Unfortunately, the dish was simply inedible—borderline disgusting. The flavors didn’t blend well at all, the mushrooms tasted unpleasant and unrelated to the dish, and I suspect they might not have been fresh. Hours later, I’m still dealing with severe nausea from that dish. We didn’t feel comfortable saying anything at the time, and no one asked for feedback until we had finished eating. Since we were very hungry, we added some salt and ate it as best we could. After we finished, the host came to clear the plates and asked how everything was. I told him it wasn’t very good and that I wouldn’t recommend the main dish. In response, he gave me a sour, angry look, which I found incredibly rude and unprofessional, continuing the unpleasant atmosphere he had created since we arrived. The set menu included dessert, and the host returned to inform us about the options. It turned out there was only one predetermined dessert—some kind of ice cream. On a freezing winter day, ice cream felt like an entirely inappropriate choice. We asked for something more fitting for the weather, and he became visibly angry and rude, pointing out that they had already accommodated us earlier by allowing a substitution for the starter. To be honest, we didn’t even realize that was an issue, and ironically, the bresaola was the only good dish of the entire meal. The rest ranged from mediocre to terrible and was absolutely not worth the price or the service level. Eventually, after making us feel very uncomfortable, the host brought the desserts we had chosen. One of them was bland and almost unidentifiable in flavor, while the pear tart was quite good. ### Service: - The service from the red-haired waitress was excellent (5/5). - The host’s attitude was abysmal (0/5) and far below the standard the restaurant claims to uphold. ### Food and Flavors: - **Starters:** - Bresaola: Excellent (5/5). - Pear Tart: Good (4/5). - Sea Fish Tartare: Okay (3/5). - **Mains:** Terrible (0/5). - **Desserts:** - The cream-based dessert: Mediocre to poor (2/5). ### Prices: The prices are on the higher end, at €50 per person. ### Conclusion: There’s a lot of room for improvement.
