They advised with a smile on the choice of dishes, made sure that we lacked nothing, and were happy to answer all questions about the menu. As a Rotterdam tour guide I was happily surprised by this all-vegan lunchroom in the city center. The food was pretty good, fairly priced and that staff was kind as well. Though, I am strongly against the trend where the menus are English only (so not in native Dutch). My nephews needed translation help, while they're in their home city. Which is ridiculous in my opinion..

Incredibly good food. Tasted of quality. The iced tea was fantastic, the “salmon” sandwich too, well actually everything we ordered was 10/10. The only negative was that we had to wait a while for the food, but the service was otherwise good.

Ate here today. Tasted delicious. Ordered an Asia bowl. This contained tempeh but it tasted like chicken to me. Was very tasty and nutritious. Service was smooth. Prices are ok. Ingredients are fresh and products used have a high cost price. A smoothie made from fresh products is therefore not expensive.

Great breakfast! I loved the açaí, the overnight oats, and definitely the cappuccino with oat milk.

The service was very friendly and attentive. The wait times are relatively long, but that's because there aren't enough people on the counter and the counter staff aren't helping out. The food is average; you can get it anywhere else. The shop is really nicely decorated.

When I arrived, I had to wait more than 20 minutes to receive a menu and another 15 to place my order (I believe the place must have been short on staff). The waitress was nice, and the food was brought relatively shortly after I ordered. I am a bit disappointed with the quality-price ratio: the food was good, the portions were very little, and it was too expensive overall. The place, on the other hand, has a very nice and quite vibe, very lovely environment.

The atmosphere of this cafe is very cozy but the food is quite expensive. It will cost around 30 to 40 euros per person for a hot drink, a savory plate and a dessert. Know before you go! The welcome is otherwise very friendly!

I love this place, tried all the burgers, all of them are super tasty, I liked the green sauce which came with the falafel burger, super! Editing my previous review hoping that the quality gets better. April 15 Came to have my favorite falafel burger with sweet fried potatoes, they were cancelled from the menu! The vegan chicken burger was cancelled as well. So my friend ordered the Backyard burger with the kimchi with regular fries. The fries were ok, the sauce as well. But the burger was definitely not fresh, neither the bun. The next day he did not leave the toilet.. I ended up ordering the falafel plate, it was an overpriced dish, with stale three pieces of falafel (perhaps from the day before?) Very dry and hard and almost burnt on the outside, and some vegetables on the side. There was no zero alcohol beer with lemon, so I had a sparkling water. The peer juice of my friend tasted like water with sugar. Paid 44 euros in total. Definitely not worth the price. There is a lot of room for improvement. (Please stop taking out the good options off the menu) this used to be my favorite vegan place, but I am not going there soon again.

Took a beer couple times with some friends, not a huge choice of anything, but a nice cozy place, with friendly staff and good tasting beer, did not dissapoint at all. Recommend for someone looking to spend chill evening

I am surprised by the quality of the food it was delicious. I am a vegetarian but my wife is not, but she also really enjoyed the genuinely delicious dishes. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere very pleasant. I would say go eat there sometime, we thought it was great.

At first I saw the burger arrive and I thought I would still be hungry and ultimately not at all, we eat really well and the price, although a little expensive, is still affordable for a taste that is largely up to par. Really really good and the room is really beautiful, I will come back if I come back to Rotterdam one day.

The food was mediocre and little!! Coffee was good. I wouldn't come here again anytime soon unfortunately. My honest opinion. Furthermore, the staff was friendly.

I love it here but I have now seen MICE there twice: once in January, and I let them know then - and once today, so it is clearly an ongoing issue. In addition a millipede was crawling around on my table… which was dirty even though I asked them to clean it, it wasn’t cleaned properly. There were dried specks of sauce all over it.😃 I am thoroughly confused and unsettled. I did let the staff know. Hope they resolve this, as everything else is great about the place.

Lick-your-fingers kind of food. Also vegan. Absolutely delicious and wholesome. Super friendly staff. Would wholeheartedly recommend. Update: revisited Rotterdam and of course Backyard again in August 2024 and the food is still so good, I love so much the Oreo cake, can't get enough.

Relaxed atmosphere on the Sunday evening, friendly and helpful service and the flavours of the foods are great. We initially wanted to go for pancakes or waffles, but realised after asking that this only available on the breakfast menu. It was rainy so we didn’t want to go out and search further so instead we had a delicious carrot cake and chocolate mousse. Both had a balanced amount of sweetness and flavour from the ingredients. After we were still a bit peckish, so we took the sweet potato fries. Decent portion in a surprisingly small and near tumbling over cup, but really delicious. Location is 1 min walk from the metro station Beurs and with the vegan ingredient options it was more pricey than other restaurants perhaps, but the quality was good. Interior design was somewhat industrial and the R&B / rap music didn’t fit the cozy rainy day feeling in my opinion. This is more a personal preference an may appeal to other people. Overall we enjoyed.

The vegan food is very tasty. We received drinks and food quickly. The music could be a bit softer. I didn't like/polite that the menu is only in English and the clerk doesn't speak a word of Dutch. You quickly learned words like please and thank you! The clerk was also very friendly/helpful.

Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. Our kids aged 18, 15 and 11 were pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian hair salon, it tasted even better than real meat!

Very good restaurant in Rotterdam, delicious food. I didn't have time to take a picture of the food, we were hungry. The staff was friendly and smiling, the vegan dessert was delicious.

The food was delicious, but I think they could have made it something more special. The possibilities with plant-based ingredients are endless. But again, fine. Don't expect anything grandiose, but maybe that's not the approach. Atmosphere is good and so is the service.

De bediening was gewoon slecht, en eten viel ook tegen. Hier met mijn vrouw geweest, kregen de indruk dat we niet echt gewenst waren. Moest iedere keer naar de bar lopen voor drinken of bij te betellen. Het dessert werd om een bord gesmeten engeserveerd.

I had an unfortunate experience at this establishment that I feel compelled to share. While I won’t comment on the food or the ambiance, the situation we encountered after our meal was disappointing. After dining with my wife and our 2-year-old daughter, I asked for the check, which came to 46 euros. I handed over a 100-euro bill to pay. Five minutes later, with my daughter growing restless (it was her naptime and she needed a diaper change), the waitress informed me that they do not accept 100-euro bills. This was a surprise to me, as I’ve never encountered such a policy before. I was asked to either provide smaller bills or pay with a credit card. I explained that I didn’t have smaller bills, and that using my credit card—since it’s not from Europe—would likely incur additional fees and taxes for me. The response was simply, ‘That’s the house rule.’ Not wanting to prolong the situation, especially with my daughter needing to head home, I reluctantly paid with my credit card. Unfortunately, this ended up costing me at least 10% more due to taxes and exchange rate fluctuations. I can’t help but feel this was an unnecessary inconvenience. If this policy exists to prevent counterfeit currency, I understand the intent, but there should be clearer communication or flexibility for guests—especially those from abroad. The experience left a sour note on what could have been an enjoyable visit.

Vegan super tasty cuisine, good specialty coffee and nice staff

I think other things are relatively priced but 9.95 for one slice of bread with kimchy and a tofu spread?! Didn't think this was normal.

Todo alrededor fantástico lugar. Fui a desayunar, me quedé a trabajar. Estábamos muy contentos con el ambiente y el personal así que pedimos el almuerzo también! Gran café, zumo de naranja y té de menta, el personal muy amable. Muy recomendable!

Update: 29.10.2024 Bowl is super delicious and healthy, had some of the amazing smoothies and love the teriyaki cauliflower snack! Check the specials on the menus! Service is still amazing. Lovely atmosphere, nice ambiente, a lot of vegan options (food/drinks), friendly service, regular prices and definitely the best indoor swing in town! Also take away service during this period! Super friendly service staff.

Super tasty curry and loaded fries. Both pleasantly spicy if you like spicy. Really good portion sizes and desserts that are pleasantly sweet.

Vegan style cafe with wonderful chill vibes and nice worker. Breakfasts taste great and fresh, you can choose different milk type if you’re finding soy or almond milk flavor one.

Someone tried to steal our phones and wallet from the pocket of our jackets while sitting here. When confronted no one really stood up or helped us. the waitress faked nothing and just asked him what he wanted to order 😅. A cola if you are wandering. 😅Food was on the pricy side, tasted bitter after the whole experience tho

The drinks were very tasty, but unfortunately the atmosphere was not suitable for work or study. The music was way too loud, which made it difficult to concentrate. When I politely asked the manager if the volume could be turned down a little, this was unpleasantly refused. This was a shame as it could have made the experience a lot more enjoyable.

The food is not healthy at all. I have diabetes and I had a sugar peak while taking all precautions as I took a dish that usually works for me.

After a full day, we opted for the 3-course menu and made the perfect choice! We wanted to have some peace and quiet, enjoy our meal and recover from the stressful day, which worked out 1 to 1! The restaurant was almost empty as most people were upstairs (a creative workshop was taking place there), which worked in our favour. We decided to go for the respective courses and I have to be honest, the starters blew me away! The hummus was just perfect and looking at someone else's order I could tell that the portions outside of the course menu were huge! I was more than full after the smaller portion! The burgers were also very tasty, as were the desserts! The service was very nice and attentive and we had a great time there! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy good vegan food!

Had a brunch here. Waffles were good, so was coffee. Service is slow, as I think they are short staffed. I loved the ambiance, except for fake plants. (Some real, some fake).

Food was very good, (half Toast with "Smashed Avo & Sundried Tomato" and half " Smoked no Salmon"; creative prepared, me and my friend wanted to share so we could try these two different sandwiches, also the dessert two different pie pieces, was also a delight! kind waitresses, but I think they were too short handed, Smoothie Purple Rain I can also recommand! I will come back

We opted for a smoothie with mango and coconut, which was super tasty and refreshing. And for food we opted for a vegetarian kapsalon. It contained: shawarma strips, cucumber, tomatoes, sweet potato as an alternative to the fries, in short, tasty for those who want to eat vegetarian. Also super fresh. Definitely worth it.

I was the only plant-based eater in a party of six but everyone else enjoyed their food! For real, they would say.

A good vegan option in Rotterdam! Inside is cute and comfortable. They try to keep the vibe downstairs inviting so you can only work on your laptop upstairs, love that they cater to both. The take on kapsalon was nice and refreshing with the addition of cucumber. They do keep the door open in the summer so when we visited there was a (very cute) little mouse running around but that is not surprising in Rotterdam center. Overall, glad to add another vegan spot to my list!!

Everything was fine until we saw a mouse. This is unacceptable and we’re very disgusted and couldn’t finish our food. Plates were still full and after we complained about it the response was oh sorry. We paid the full amount. And will never ever go back there. They know nothing about hygiene and I also threw up after leaving.

Had lunch here with 2 people on a Monday. Very quiet, attractive tent where you can enjoy a delicious meal! Recommended: smashed avocado sandwich, grilled vegetable sandwich and especially the cakes.

What.. a… BAD COMPANY! I felt like going out for something to eat, I looked for businesses in the area and saw “Backyard”. I wanted to reserve a table and then I hear the person who is apparently the “owner” laughing about my accent? Then I get scolded and they hang up laughing. You won't find me here!

I can only recommend this place! Came here based on a personal recommendation, and I was not disappointed. The food is delicious and the homemade drinks are really marvellous! For dessert, I had the Blueberry No Cheesecake. Perfect way to top off a perfect meal. The prices are all very reasonable. Last but not least, the staff are all incredibly friendly and happy. I will certainly come again!

Good vegan food in a cool atmosphere. Really worth a visit, convinced me even as a non-vegan.

I've been here a few times and they've mostly been pleasant experiences. The service is fine and relatively swift. The menu is diverse and caters to the fried, boiled, cooked, grilled and raw food eaters. The quality and freshness of the ingredients is good and the dishes are proportioned well and taste nice. The drinks are made well and as yet I've tried the hulk smoothie and some others and they've been on point. Prices are fine and I'll visit them again soon.

A great lunch stop for my boyfriend and me - one vegan and one very much not! We shared the backyard cheeze burger and the backyard healthy kapsalon. We both found these delicious! A lovely atmosphere and good service
