What a professionalization leap De Bakkerswinkel has undergone sometime in late 2024! I realized then, on January 25, 2025, that I called twice at times when I would otherwise have gotten an answering machine, with the certainty that the sun revolves around the earth. Now I have a human being! And Dutch speakers, where previously they increasingly had to rely on English-speaking staff. Not to be xenophobic. Well, I only come here for the Imperial Regal Vanmenno. The rest is beyond me. 😎

Food was tasty and the place was cute (has lots of extra seating underground, super cozy). The staff was nice but we had to constantly get up to find one of them if we wanted to order something more, I guess the disposition of the place is kind of like a maze so hard for them to see all tables at the same time.

Best apple pie I've had in the Netherlands so far

A bakery with basement rooms at canal level. The food and drinks are good. The old shipyard cellars also have a certain ambiance. However, in heavy rain, the ceiling can drip.

Bad food and bad service. Staff are pretty rude and unhelpful, I see other reviews here saying they ignored customers and this is indeed what they did to us. The scones are tiny, half risen and overpriced. We got a club sandwich which was made with the end slice of bread from a loaf and was incredibly dry. We also got a hot chocolate and this was simply a cup of warm milk with lumps of unmelted chocolate at the bottom, the milk wasn’t even hot enough to melt the chocolate.

When you visit,go downstairs! Such a cute cafe! We've had a sandwich, scone,and farmers yoghurt with fruit,all fresh and tasty! Service was so friendly and made us feel at home!

The service was excellent and exceptionally friendly and attentive. The lower floor was cozy and spacious. The food was delicious.

This charming local shop perfectly captures everything you need to start your day! I really liked how compact and detailed the interior was that made the atmosphere cozy, and the lady working there was very delightful in helping out! The pastries seem high quality and the coffee is quite rich. Definitely recommend stopping by for a quick breakfast or take a moment to savor treats!

Recently, we had high tea with a larger group. Lots of (same kinds of) cake, not much pie, and the sandwiches weren't great. The service in the basement was also mediocre. It's a shame, because the coffee and cake are always good here.

Great small place to have a good lunch

A place with a lot of Utrecht soul to have breakfast, brunch or simply enjoy a coffee or natural infusion accompanied by a good cake, cookie or freshly baked bread.

Enjoyed a delicious high tea. They also served delicious and delicious vegan options.

I tried to order my birthday cake by calling and no one answers the phone. So I went there, the person said they didn’t have any carrot cakes, so I tried to reserve/order one for the next day and they said “I don’t know if they will bake any carrot cakes tomorrow. Come tomorrow at X time”. They also said that their phone doesn’t work very well, without seeming to care much or give any other solutions. So I go the next day and they only have cake slices, same person told me that I should have ordered in advance 🥲. They don’t seem to have interest in selling much. Typical Dutch service.

A delicious breakfast. The homemade granola had a pleasant cinnamon flavor. The yogurt wasn't too tart either. The coffee could have been a bit more aromatic, though. Otherwise, it was well-prepared.

We had an absolutely outstanding breakfast there! The shop is a bit small and confusing at first, but it's definitely worth eating there or getting something to go.

We had a scone, coffee and tea downstairs. In the meanwhile, we did an extra order for one more of scone to one of female staffs. But she never served it to us so we just thought she forgot it so we were trying to make an eye contact to remind her. However, I found that she was ignoring us on purpose though she looked at me, still not giving us the second scone. So we just left to pay for what we had but there were two scones and an extra cost in the bill even though we only got served 1 scone. We couldn’t even know where the extra cost came from so we told another staff everything and she brought the staff who ignored us to figure out. At the moment, she kept insisting that she gave us the second scone, which made us so mad and we felt it as racism obviously. She also even said that ‘what would you want me to do?’, ‘what is the solution you want?’ without any apology. Eventually, she fixed the bill correctly after an argument but we all know that she was not supposed to treat customers like that. What a disrespect treatment and she is a ridiculous racist.

Absolutely amazing, sweet and savoury. Really cool interior and the absolutely sweetest mugs 😍 I don’t regret the purchase because the food is amazing, but honestly, this has been the most expensive baker visit of my entire life. Two smallish Stückchen for 7,60€!!! I am speechless 😶

Ochtend Ritueel bij de Bakkerswinkel. En ik heb gekozen voor een Bakkers Onbijtje maar ik miste me Potje Thee - het werd nu in glas gepresenteerd dat vond ik jammer volgende keer weer wel hoop ik 🙏 .

Slightly too small portions, not enough choice for sandwiches, friendly staff, no extras compared to other cafes, dated interior. Was fine. No more and no less. Wouldn't make a detour for it.

I went there in the rain and they weren’t open

Food was fine, atmosphere was small and stuffy. Service absolutely not repeatable, were avoided while other customers were helped. Don't come back again

Made reservation at 9am. Upon arrival at 8.58 the door was still shut. They saw me standing outside but seem to completely ignore me.... waited till 9.02 and than decided to visit the neighbours across the street (de ontdekking). Here we where warmly welcomed and had a lovely breakfast.

The best bakery in town. Their bread is legendary. The cakes are fantastic.

We sat downstairs by the window, it was freezing so don't sit there in winter. I thought high tea was way too expensive for what you get. Scones were delicious. Sandwiches with savory fillings were tasty but not special. Sweets were just a blondie and a brownie so no cake or pastries. Which is actually part of a high tea. Then 33.50 euros per person is really too expensive.

Delicious cheese fondue in an old wharf cellar. We went for French and Dutch fondue. Friendly, fast, attentive service. The old wharf cellar has a nice "authentic" atmosphere that you could perhaps also describe as old. A bit fresh.

Delicious apple pie and friendly service by Floor

I'm coming here on December 31 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are put away in an ice-cold cellar. The guest business is almost closing Vacuuming and cleaning takes place. And then the cold shower on the bill. 33.50 pp for a high tea! Calculate the price for January 2025 while I booked in November 2024 for 28.95, which is also quite expensive. Too bad it used to be so much fun.

Visited Bakkerswinkel many times in the past on all sorts of occasions (e.g., breakfast, lunch, just coffee and cakes, or just the shop to buy stuff). Last week I finally went for high tea and now have a more general (and perhaps also objective view). First the good things: - very tasty cakes, scones, bread and in general all the bakery-related products - lunch dishes are really nice, especially the ones including eggs Mediocre things: - tea selection is not large enough and tastes OK-ish - coffee is OK - sandwiches are poor - high tea offering is uninspired, but most importantly very pricey - price in general. Everything is crazy expensive for what you get.

Delicious cheese fondue, friendly service, cozy atmosphere!

We enjoyed high tea here. It was sufficient in quantity and taste but not more than that. You get a scone with clotted cream (not real) and 1 flavor of jam (not a free choice). Then an etagere with some sandwiches and sweets. Unfortunately, tea is supplied in standard bags, with the option of fresh mint tea. Again, everything is sufficient but does not deserve more than that, especially considering the price, which is very high. For that price I expected more. In addition, you are in the basement, which is very noisy, you almost have to shout to make yourself understood.

Unfortunately, they didn't have apple pie and red velvet at 2:08 PM.

Lovely place with unique cellar that is cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately, very limited teas were available and the service was a bit lacking. We did sit for 2.5 hours and enjoyed our High Tea, but could have used a check in for more tea or even water. Quiche was extra special. Scones really nice. Sandwiches were a bit uninspired. Too many bread layers, would prefer more traditional savory sandwiches and variety.

Truly a dream come true. I was there for a KPN malfunction and they were very nice. I immediately got coffee and cake.

Vorig jaar kwam ik hier na jaren weer eens terug voor een high tea. Toen was het prima, dus afgelopen oktober nogmaals gegaan. Toen we binnenkwamen bleek het best druk te zijn. We kregen een tafeltje middenin. Het was erg gehorig, we konden elkaar bijna niet verstaan. Op de tafel stonden vergane bloemen (zie foto). Het begin was dus niet zo best. De high tea werd op tafel gezet. Het zag er minder goed uit dan vorig jaar, maar we gaven het een kans. Helaas smaakte het ook veel minder. Het brood was superdroog, gelukkig hadden we thee om het weg te spoelen. De brownies waren heel hard. Al met al zat er niks bij wat echt goed was. Ik schaamde me dat ik deze high tea cadeau had gedaan.

Hands down, the most delicious cheese fondue I have ever eaten. We go again every autumn and it is always wonderful.

Today we went to the Bakkerswinkel for the first time. I found the wharf cellar attractive, but also very moldy and damp. Unfortunately the coffee was very sour and not at the right temperature. Vega quiche had a very monotonous taste. 'Fresh Salad' had a very simple and monotonous dressing and limp tomatoes. Too bad, but I found the food mostly boring. Scones and carrot cake nothing special. I think it would be a nice view of the quay wall if the windows had been removed. Also very expensive, we felt very embarrassed for that price.

I had the Dutch cheese fondue at the Bakkerswinkel! The strong taste of the fondue, including Dolaner cheese and based on Dark Abbey beer, was very tasty. The fondue was served with bread and vegetables such as broccoli, radish, carrot, tomato and pepper. We also ordered a charcuterie board. The atmosphere in the basement of the Bakkerswinkel was cozy and the service very friendly. Definitely worth it for anyone who loves cheese fondue!

Lovely place, I will definitely come back. I tried their sweet bread cake and it was really tasty. The atmosphere is so chill and the music very nice.

such a sweet place to have breakfast. we ordered 2 breakfasts for 3 people and it was the perfect amount of food. their hot chocolate is incredible!!

Very tasty cake, tasted very fresh. Very friendly staff, asked if you wanted to get your hot drink with the cake. Unfortunately, the cappuccino was not hot enough, but the taste (type of coffee, how the milk was frothed) was tasty.

If you are craving cream tea, this is the place to go.

I loved Bakkerswinkel! The servece is great, and the staff is very kind. They have different menus during the day, on for the morning and other for the afternoon. I went there at 11 am of saturday and ate the bread breakfast. In my opinion, this can serve two people, because came a lot of food. The price was around 18 euros. It came 2 slices of bread and one slice of brioche, 1 croissant, cheese, ham and Jam. The breakfast include a hot drink (coffee or tea) and a Orange Juice. My friend ordered the french toast. In a nother visit I ate a delicious cake and drink a tea. I didn't eat the apple tarte yet, but I am going to try on in my next visit, for sure. The atmosphere is cozy and cute. It is a good place to go with girlfriends, family or on a day date, why not?

We are doing the "scone route" and this is the best! They are full of flavour, great texture and smell. The jam is delicious and the cream is perfect. Best of the best 👌 The place is just beautiful, you can sit in ten historic cellar, it is a great experience 😀

Way too expensive for what you get. Staff not really friendly. €5.50 for a jug of water. Can of lemonade at the bottom of the limo that is impossible to stir and was not really possible. €17.50 for a “club sandwich” with some chicken and bacon. Way too expensive

Delicious lunch. Delicious food, friendly people and what a beautiful store.

Their breakfast menu comes with an orange juice and tea/coffee. Tried French toast made from brioche bread. I loved their setup. Took a wrong turn twice to their kitchen but there is a downstairs setup along the canal which is ideal for an high tea date. Make a reservation if it’s more than 2

Delicious scones and you can eat delicious cheese fondue in the basement. Jummy . It took me years to make equally delicious scones, but I finally succeeded. Have fun.

I have been coming to the bakery in Utrecht for at least 20 years. The food was always delicious but.. today it was and unfortunately it was pitch black again. Don't understand why they don't put up decent lighting there. In addition, the ham/cheese/mustard croissant was very disappointing (maybe incorrectly reheated?). It had a different much less tasty taste than normal. We were also not given a knife, fork or napkin and we had to wait 30 minutes while it was only 10% full... had to ask 3 times for a knife, fork and napkin... a huge disappointment. We will go to another restaurant next time. Plenty of nice breakfast places in Utrecht. A shame for the Bakkerswinkel!

Lovely small tea room with welcoming friendly staff. Myself and my partner were looking for a quick delicious snack before dinner. We enjoyed a nice coffee together with an amazing ham and cheese croissant swirl with a side of their own special mustard (i highly recommend you try this) and a lemon cheesecake was shared and also a poppy lemon cake. The poppyseed lemon cake had a hint of a lovely aroma to it. We were trying to work it out, possibly lavender?! I’m unsure but from that first bite i knew they were seriously great cake and pastry makers :)

Lovely place for a meal, their cakes looked delicious but sadly I couldn't eat any more after such a fulfilling meal! They have a "meal deal" with soup, quiche, and salad that was really good. Nice, cozy place downstairs with a view to the Canal. Friendly service.

Went today and had coffee and cake. We can't say anything other than the cake, boy, how delicious, coffee also tasted good. However (unfortunately this is often the case) I have less and less understanding of the prices. I think 6.50 for a piece of cake, and almost 6 euros for a larger cappuccino. And then you really don't have a mega point on your plate. Very tasty tip.

Really cute and cozy bakery with breakfast/lunch options. Had the “Wittevrouwen” Breakfast, which came with a coffee and juice - and was tasty and very filling. I wish I had room for the baked goods as they looked really good - maybe next time!

Keuze uit verschillende Onbijtjes en dat is moelijk kiezen - ik ben voor het Wentelteefjes Onbijtje gegaan - het is behoorlijk machtig eten maar wel onzettend lekker.

This is my favorite bakery in Utrecht. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is nice and cozy, perfect for a tea time with friends or a lunch. Cakes are great too, I've ordered full cakes and they were on time and delicious.

This place transports you to a different country and time. The tofu scramble and eggplant sandwich were delicious, as was the lemon poppy cake! Great spot for both sweets and lunch.
