Nice bar but a bit noisy when it’s full, hard to talk to one another

For a long time I really only came here for drinks, but the food menu has really REALLY improved. With a new menu featuring products from Fort Negen and other local shops, the menu features tacos, toasties and sandwiches which are creative, hot and tasty. Will definitely be back here to try the mushroom tacos, korean fried cauliflower and chicken burger. Excellent experience.

Best smashburger and they have good thin french fries. Staff is friendly. Nice cozy atmosphere,but can get really loud in the evenings.

We had a wonderful evening; the atmosphere was cozy and the staff very attentive and helpful. The prices were disproportionate to the portions. I understand that Amsterdam is expensive, but €9.50 for three dried-out (small) pieces of brioche bread with a single anchovy isn't something you'd pay for dining out. €5 for a 25ml shot of salmari is also far too meager. I was a little embarrassed not to tip, but I really don't mean it to the staff, but to the owner who put the prices on the menu. At those prices, a tip should already be included, and a good one at that. I don't plan on coming back here until I become a millionaire. And even then, I'd rather visit a different bar. Truly Barbaric prices for the amount of food and drinks.

I was only briefly visiting Amsterdam and had dinner here. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was friendly, quick, and personable. The only thing that bothered and irritated me was the constant pedestrian traffic outside.

Just moved to this neighborhood, this was our third and final time. The waitress was rude, grumpy, and completely unhelpful. I certainly don't expect stellar service in a place like this. But friendly service seems like the bare minimum. We paid and won't be back. Response: see email

Very disappointed in both the service we ordered drinks and also wanted to eat something 1 of us ordered a smoothie which turned out not to be a smoothie € 5 because the kitchen had not yet opened, we ordered some bread to nibble on, what a disappointment when the waiter brought that bread at a raison d'être € 7.50, we looked at each other in disbelief, 3 and a half slices of hard brown bread full of air holes, well we were immediately lost our appetite, when we asked the waiter, he thought it was the most normal course of action, well we thanked him for it, paid for our drinks, except for the so-called smoothie and the bread and went to eat elsewhere nearby where you can still get a decent portion of bread for € 5.50, Look we don't want to come across as difficult or annoying, the waiter could have said the least we had to say we didn't have a smoothie, we think it's a shame we didn't take a picture of the bread because it was really too sad to look at!

What an overrated place, bad service (was simply overlooked for half an hour) and the food was also very meh.

This used to be a great place. Had wonderful experience here in the past. But this time they served undercooked chicken thigh, stale bread, and only told us after ordering that they had switched from their nice fries to new sweet potato fries with no option to choose.

Service was poor. The bar wasn’t even half full and we had to beg someone to take our order. I actually wouldn’t blame the waitstaff, they were young and obviously trying to do their best but a little bit of training could help them along and make it a much better experience. Food was meh. Tables are way too close together and the sound of metal dragging on concrete as people take out their chairs is a nasty accompaniment.

love this place. only really come during the day and it's the perfect cafe for getting work done, having a coffee snack maybe even a little wine. their rose is awesome, all the servers are lovely people and I just really enjoy the vibe here. the food is fine but I come more for the vibes (and rose) and will eat the food if i get hungry

Overpriced for small portions of mediocre food on the Mediterranean platter Edit: yes, my friend said everything was ok. My friend is entitled to her own opinion and it seemed impolite to interrupt the conversation to say I didn't agree.

It has now happened to me twice that I am simply not helped here. Probably because I don't fall into the yuppie frame. They saw me, even looked at me, but they just let me sit... Bad thing!

We had a reservation for dinner with a coupon. The tables are so close to each other, you have to eat all together. The service was slow. We ate chicken burgers, but the meat was all black, burned. We were indecisive to discuss it with the personnel or not, but after we decided to be silent and have some peace.

We had lunch during the week using the coupon. There was a small start-up problem that caused the kitchen to open later, but it did not cause any problems. Waitress was very attentive and cooperative. We had the sabich and burrata. Unfortunately, the sabich dripped into the oil, so much that it was a bit nauseating... otherwise the ingredients were fresh. They were only missing part of the tea range because that was gone. Inside are boxes of games. There is a pub atmosphere inside, but with the theme evenings the day also fits. Fortunately we sat outside on the terrace, which we thought was a nicer place. All in all, great experience. Service was very good.

waitress was impeccable! very kind and helpful. the vibe was nice aswell, good music and board games. the food: unfortunately not good at all. my bread was very hard and toppings were drowning in oil. very sad about this, as i am not a picky eater at all.

Had lunch here with a friend recently as we had a buy one get one free lunch coupon. Pros: service was great, Emma was very attentive and friendly, the bar is in a great location, with a large terrace, large selection of drinks (and they serve my favourite oedipus beer), good selection of bored games too. Cons: the food was below average. I wasn't expecting 5 stars but the burgers were really poor, very dry bread bun and over battered chicken. If we didn't have the 241 deal I would have been annoyed to pay €19.50 for that burger. Summary: Will definitely return for drinks, would hesitate to eat here again.

Bar Baarsch is a wonderful neighborhood cafe with food, drinks, and that quintessential Dutch cosiness known as "gezelligheid". My friend and I stopped by for brunch on the weekend and sat outside, just around the corner of the bustling shopping street Jan Evertsenstraat. A great place for people watching! The staff were super friendly and accommodating, albeit a bit slow at first to take our orders and bring us drinks. But service picked up as the place got busier. My friend had the smoked salmon sandwich and I opted for the eggs. The salmon was lovely and fresh, and my eggs were poached to perfection and finished with yogurt and spices – absolutely delicious! Coffees were great and my friend also ordered some refreshing homemade passionfruit lemonade. During the day this is a superb place to chill out, have a meal or just meet for coffee. At night, it turns into a bar, and besides beer and cocktails apparently there are also all kinds of activities (like pub quizzes, performances and speed dating). Highly recommended and we will definitely be back for more!

I had lunch here with a friend. It took quite a while before we got our food. The burger with fries was very tasty. The club sandwich was okay. It could have used a nice sauce to give it a bit more flavor. The remoulade sauce was bland. I think regular mayo would have been tastier. Next time I'll definitely get the beef or chicken burger with fries

It is always a safe go-to bar with nice cocktails. However, the burger is changed. It was a really good one before, now it is a store-bought patty with a weird smell and almost stale bread (or maybe it was a one time thing I don’t know). I still like it here, but I hope they bring the old burger back.
