Complicated and downright disgusting combinations, uninviting, almost frozen wine, steak in a pool of grease, and refried fries. Easily one of the worst restaurants in town.

Very tasty and well presented food in a great setting

This is the second time I've dined at Bar Baut. The staff was once again friendly and professional, the restaurant has a very homey atmosphere, and the wine list is full of excellent wines. The three-course chef's menu was also delicious. The vegetarian cheesi with grilled peach was intensely flavorful and had a delicate texture. It was followed by a tender picanha with polenta and bourbon sauce. Finally, the dessert was made with chocolate, redcurrant, and salted caramel. Highly recommended!

Friendly service. The price-quality-quantity ratio wasn't right. Portions were very limited. The oysters were also a bit dry and the cheapest from the wholesaler. I used to be a big fan of Baut, but that's about it.

The service was chaotic and lacking in expertise. For example, the waitress claimed the peach ceviche was actually a fish dish (even when I asked). But it turned out to be thick chunks of peach. It didn't even remotely resemble a ceviche; a huge disappointment. Furthermore, the dishes were very small and very expensive. The drinks were also really expensive. I know everything is getting more expensive, but I thought what we got yesterday was absurd and disproportionate. Not in terms of food and not in terms of service.

What a wonderful spot in Zuid. Great atmosphere, surprising flavor combinations, and excellent service. In short, a truly great night out!

Complaining about money isn't cool. We all have different budgets/jobs/incomes, and that's how it should be. But €6.50 for a glass of IJ Wit... after two glasses with friends, I'm done. Sorry, Baut, forever.

A good bar/restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and quality food. While there’s nothing that makes this place truly stand out as unique, it’s definitely reliable and won’t leave you disappointed. I especially enjoyed the cocktails and starters. I recommend going for the four-dish menu: it’s diverse and offers great value for the price. Also, the bread served at the beginning was surprisingly delicious!

A few years ago we came here regularly. Back then it was always very good for the price and the service was very friendly. Unfortunately, we have not experienced that at all now. A few years ago the steak tartare was always very good. Now it has crab and crayfish, which makes the texture unpleasant and the taste is also substandard. The bouillabaisse was a large bowl of watery soup with little fish. The white chocolate mousse had barely set but the panna cotta was rock hard and really inedible. In addition, my partner had a lamb chop that they had only fried on one side, which meant that it was still half raw. When he pointed this out, the plate disappeared, 10+ minutes later a completely cooked chop (clearly thrown in the oven) came back on a small plate without sauce. The service is incredibly disinterested. First a portion of fries with mayonnaise was thrown over the table, it can happen and the waiter found it very unpleasant. A little later another waiter threw the cutlery on the floor, which created stains on my father's shoes. Because we had already said something about several things (cutlet and panna cotta) we just let it be. The whole service is very slow. We spent 3.5 hours on 3 courses. Only after 20 minutes we got a replacement fries. We had to beckon someone for new drinks every time because the service certainly does not come and ask if everything is to your liking. Unfortunately, it used to be nice, now it is really not worth it.

Very tasty food with friendly and fast service

The food and deceijn were delicious. The service was mediocre, messy drinks often took longer than the food and on the cramped noisy terrace the waiter walked hard against my chair. After 20 times that really gets annoying

Creative food, staff was warm and the ambiance was welcoming. Not overly expensive for what you get. Hard to get a cab due the one way street, so plan accordingly.

We went to Baut for Mother's Day for dinner. A nice location with a spacious terrace. We opted for the Mother's Day menu with deposit. The dishes had to be shared. Oyster in advance with different garnishes (Asian, Steak Tartare, etc.). I find the flavors too overpowering, so the taste of the oysters took a back seat. The main course was a Dorado. This was certainly nicely prepared, but we had to share a relatively small fish per 2 people. That was really not enough, even for lunch. This was served with tasty fries. The salad was tasteless. Just lettuce and something croutons-like. The gusts of wind caused sand to get into the food. Of course they can't do anything about that, but it is annoying for the customer. The dessert was separate from the menu. We had a scroppino and it was perfectly made. The wine list deserves compliments. This is divided according to tastes and there is a wide choice of beautiful wines from different countries. The service was clearly (too) busy. You had to regularly ask for attention. But this is often standard in Amsterdam. Real catering people are still a small group.

Amazing service at Bar BAUT. English and Dutch menu was available. The staff was attentive and very friendly. Ordered frites, Bok Choy, Bouillabaiss, monkfish, Truffle Ravioli. All of the food tasted amazing. I highly recommend any of the dishes. Top notch food quality. Nice staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommended

We had a great night here! Well thought out menu, everything was so flavourful and also beautifully presented. Had the bouillabaisse and roasted bloemkool to start and then took on the cote de boeuf 🥩 💪🏼 and the best scroppinno I’ve ever had. Excellent service and we loved the high table at the bar, the barman really knows his stuff and the cocktail menu is innovative. Cosy atmosphere and dimly lit which adds to the ambience.

We love this place for their flexibility in tweaking the menu for vegetarians and kids.

Nicely decorated restaurant with pleasant service. Nice acoustics too. We chose this restaurant because it was well regarded in the Michelin guide. We opted for the surprise menu, but unfortunately the menu was not very surprising. We started with the burrata, which was delicious and well seasoned. This was followed by the tartare (not surprisingly) which was finished with some kind of pate, which did not match the rest of the dish. Next we got the diamond tenderloin, not surprisingly. Fine, tasty, nothing special. One of our table companions ate a vegetarian menu. As a main course she got a head of cauliflower, which was not really seasoned. This felt like a lot of the same on one plate. For dessert we got a kind of dry gingerbread-like cookie with grapefruit ice cream and a kind of mocha-like mousse. Separately, the flavors were fine, but none of our table companions thought the flavors came together well. Excellent value for money, but the surprise was a bit lacking. We also thought it was a shame that not all flavors went well together. Perhaps this is better coordinated with other dishes.

The decoration is very stylish, but the seats are small and it feels crowded when there are many people. The food is okay, I heard it is recommended by Michelin, but Asians may not like it very much.

Simply amazing! We took the 3 course menu and everything was delicious. We had burata, tartar beef and steak. As side dish bok choi. The restaurant design and atmosphere is very vibrant. Stuff very welcoming, friendly and kind (kudos to them)!

So far one of the best Caeser salads in town.

We went for lunch. The poached eggs with salmon wasn’t all that tasty. The burrata was fine.

Had dinner here with a group of 8 people. My expectation was more of a cafe, but the food is very tasty but also quite expensive. We paid EUR 650 for dinner with 8 people. Service was friendly but sometimes chaotic (order forgotten).

The ambient was very nice! The interior is unique and portraits a mix of an alternative, artsy vibe but in a very high class way. The Pinot Grigio we had was fine but not outstanding and the same goes for the food. It’s a shared dining concept (like every other restaurant in Amsterdam at the moment). The portion sizes are fine. They recommend 3 per person but we shared 3 in two and it was more than enough. We had vegan croquettes as an appetizer and they were nice but again, nothing too special. As a main course we had the roasted cauliflower, which was a bit over spiced for my taste and the fish soup. Firstly, the two things did not harmonize at all, which is not necessarily the restaurants fault but I do think the staff should be able to recommend or comment on this, given that it’s a shared dining concept. The fish soup with mussels was good in taste and with plenty seafood in there. Service was friendly and attentive but it took very long for the food to arrive and to shift from starter to main course even though it was not really that busy. Overall I can say it was good but nothing too special and for the prices I think it’s not be best value for money.

We came in due to the nice reviews and were truly disappointed. We had the chefs menu but the fish was bitter, the meat tough and chewy and the burrata just didn’t taste like burrata. No harmony, in general. It’s a pity because the place is cute but 6.5€ for water is ridiculous.

Nice tent, but a sandwich for €12 is a bit too crazy for me, my children really liked the sandwich😉

Another place to recommend. We ordered a 4-course lunch set and the starter was delicious burrata with dried tomatoes and a hint of sweetness. Next was tartare with corn and popcorn. Main course: beef with potato cake in mint sauce and green peas, and for dessert, chocolate mousse with blueberry ice cream. Everything was delicious and fresh. Affordable prices. It's worth checking out.

Had a delicious lunch during Dim Sunday. Very nice service.

We went for a Dim Sum Sunday. Service was very friendly and good. Klara did a good job. The Dim Sum were good though average in taste. The same was extremely good. All in all a nice experience.

Got there via Heerlijk.nl, with a 4 course chef's menu offer (not possible to choose any of the meals, except for the vegetarian choice). Decent first 2 courses (not out of ordinary), main course an absolute disaster with some pork belly not cooked, chewy and the whole plate cold. Desert was an average tiramisu. Vegetarian option for main was better (risotto with vegetables). We were offered free coffee or tea for the failed course, which we refused. Would have been good to have been offered the drinks for free, if you really wanted to save your reputation. Very overpriced at €41 / person for what the chef's menu is offering, therefore recommend negatively.

Bar BAUT is amazing, and I wanted to share my sincere appreciation to the staff. I'm visiting from aboard, and my wife had an emergency half-way through the dinner, the staff were able to accommodate all our requirements. On the food side, this is a fine dining experience with a bar atmosphere. All the dishes come in decent size, well-balanced ingredients, and cooked with top notch techniques. My personal favorite is the risotto.

Food was delicious, service was extremely quick and the place was vibrant. Buttery soft fish with crab sauce - cannot reccomend enough. Portions are on the small side you will probably want to start with 2 per person.

When booking, 15 pp is charged. Share dining or not. You can divide the dish by 2, but you don't have to. Beautifully laid out plates. And food was good too. We “took” 5 dishes from the menu plus 2 x side dishes. Everything tasted equally delicious. Cod on crispy bed with mushroom was very good. And for dessert a cheese board. Staff very friendly. The only downside was the cigarette smoke coming in from the terrace.

Atmosphere was nice until two ladies next to us demanded us, a table of 4 people, to quiet down. While we were of course happy to lower our tone, the waiter was very rude and pressured us to leave. In addition, up until that time we were enjoying our nights and had a very normal conversation amongst the four of us. What started out as a good evening had a bitter after taste. Maybe it was bad time, bad place but all-in-all a bad experience (unfortunately)

It was my first meal in the Netherlands and it was delicious. Burrata is delicious :)

I recently dined at BAUT and would like to share my experience, which led me to give a rating of 3 stars. Upon being seated, we were promptly served two plates of bread with dip. While this gesture was appreciated, it was unexpected as we weren't asked if we wanted them. To our surprise, these were later included in our bill, amounting to 12 euros, which seemed a bit steep for something we didn't explicitly order. Regarding the food, I found the risotto to be overly salty, which detracted from its potential flavors. Despite this, the overall quality of the service and the rest of the food was quite fine. The staff was attentive and the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant.

Cozy place and good food. Really had a good dinner! We ordered different plates and shared among each other. The tartare and the ceviche were really great! Loved the chocolate cake dessert, very well balanced. Good selection of beers and wines.

Les plats sont inventifs et pleins de saveurs différentes. Il s’agit de petites portions à partager ou à garder pour soi. Les serveurs sont agréables et attentifs. Un vrai moment de détente. La deco est contemporaine type loft. Seul bémol, les tables sont petites pour disposer l’ensemble des plats commandés. On a adoré.

Oktober 2023 A special lunch in combination with Kef (famouse cheese monger) it was superb. Good wine and cheese combination. Little bit more food would be recommendable with 6 glasses of wine. The served baguette is the only bad remark, this is a retail baguette - white bread with a bit of a crust. ... They made a nice place again, loved it. Review 2 (June 21 - 2019) The start of exibition with Elysanne Schuurman #elysanne (really love her art) together with good music (DJ in the house) and of course really good food. A little more people than expected, some delay in getting our table but service was excellent, she made the difference, so we go from 4 to 5 stars. We'll be back -x- P. Review 1 (Sept 15 - 2018) Only took the dessert since we already ate. They were really good. Next to excellent service stunning place. Pop up number 6 for those guys. Large quantities for a tasty menu of 5 courses, you will not be disappointed. It was lacking uniqueness in some dishes. Wine pairing fit very nicely and staff were super friendly.

Wat me speciaal opviel in dit restaurant was de enorme gastvrijheid van het personeel. De tijd van onze reservering verschuiven was geen enkel probleem. Het gekozen driegangenmenu werd vlot geserveerd wat ons goed uitkwam i.v.m. nog lange reis voor de boeg. Onze serveerster, een jongedame uit Polen, verdient echt een extra compliment. Zelden zo leuk en attent bediend. De zaak zat vol en dat verbaast me niets. De prijzen vond ik normaal.

Zeer goede plek voor vrijmibo om vervolgens te blijven eten. Erg fijne brigade!

We were really looking forward to trying this place, as the menu looked good and the atmosphere was cool. It was a Monday night, pretty dead and the service from the server was not great, we rarely got checked on by her and we would have ordered more drinks if she had. We chose the 4 course chefs choice. The first two courses were really rich and could have been shared by two people - the buratta was covered in a really sweet jam and it was too much with the rich flavor of the buratta. The tartar was also very rich and could have been shared, the balance was off and the richness could have been offset with something else. Our main course was the most delicious, a perfectly tender and tasty pork. That made it more worth while. The desert was good, but I can’t remember what it was now… it fell a little flat for us. A bit disappointed for the reviews and being recommended by the Michelin guide.

So uhhh i was really excited to try this restaurant howsoever, it was a little disappointing First of all, the waitress that was with us did very uncomfortable remarks regarding what the other people in my table where ordering (cheaper plates), but I was probably the most uncomfortable with those comments. No need to be passive aggressive because not everyone wants to spend 100$ in a restaurant. Very disappointing in that part The drinks were really good, special remark to mixology. Good prices - quality The dinner was incredible, I can’t deny it, I ordered the 4 plates chef order and it was really enjoyable. Wouldn’t come here again but that’s bc of the service :) Ps: also even though I was “praised” for being the person who ordered the most expensive plates, they kept forgetting my allergies which I mentioned 3 times, and still got my dessert with it lol. Quite funny.

Fijne plek. Heb hier geluncht, eten was prima, je kon vrijwel alles van de diner kaart ook voor de lunch bestellen. Bediening was fijn. Verstand van wijn, Pinot Nero was lekker gekoeld en kreeg top tip voor dikke Chardonnay bij desert.

Service was very good. Food in a la cart menu was interesting and pretty good. From lunch menu we had steak which was ordinary nice meat, nothing more, but with good sauces. Cocktails good. Expected more

Fantastic food & service. A hidden gem

Heerlijk gegeten op het terras. Ik was bent dat we veel lsst van verkeer zouden hebben, maar dat was helemaal niet het geval. De medewerkers zijn professioneel en vrolijk.

Have been here all ready three or four times and haven’t been disappointed. Yesterday sat for the first time outside for dinner. We were a party of four and chose to take the five course menu. The waitress were accommodating in changing dishes or having allergens removed from the dishes. The food had well sized portions with good taste and textures. The choice of included dishes from the a la carte was good. When we came to dessert it was no problem not to include it in the meal.

Great place. I think the staff is relatively inexperienced (and young), so they don't really see when to be pro-active or not, but you can clearly tell that they are super willing. I think the manager created a phenomenal team of positive minded people, you can just feel that they enjoy working there. In these days of limited availability of staff it's a true blessing to experience something like this. Food is great! Rendang steak tartare a bit boring, but ok, all other dishes amazing. Good wine-list, correct pricing, nice terrace. Just a super relaxed evening out. If you fancy good food and nice wines with a friendly no-fuss attitude: go here! If you are a food-snob looking for perfection; still go here, but just enjoy and change your mindset.
