Christmas dinner with the whole family was fantastic. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was fantastic!

The meal on Christmas Eve was delicious and a lovely evening, especially thanks to the fantastic service that made us feel alert and cheerful, which also made it a festive evening.

The price-quality ratio is quite lacking. Positive points are the friendly staff and the beautiful location, unfortunately with poor acoustics. Points of concern: Red wine served ice cold (Beaujolais really doesn't need to be chilled) and very expensive (charging fifty bucks for a ten-euro bottle is ridiculous in my opinion). Some portions were truly meager. The squid appetizer was very bland, colorless, and more like an amuse-bouche in size. The main course, gnocchi with mushrooms, was more like a small entrée and had an uninteresting flavor combination. The same was true for the salsify appetizer. Furthermore, there was a strong emphasis on upselling through the offered supplements with almost every main course on the menu. All in all, a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. In my opinion, the owner seems a bit too driven by his wallet. A missed opportunity at such a fantastic location.

We had a really good time at Cantine Carron! We went with a group of friends, and it’s honestly a great spot for that kind of dinner—nice vibe, relaxed atmosphere, and perfect for catching up over good food. Everything we ordered was tasty and well done, no complaints there. They’re also very accommodating for large groups, which is a big plus when you’re planning a friends’ dinner. Definitely recommend the set menus too—the value for the price is solid and makes ordering super easy. The only thing we’d love to see is a bit more variety in those set menu options. Overall, fun place, good food, and a great choice for a night out with friends

Fantastic, I went twice this week for lunch (actually dinner...). Both times were excellent. The quality of the food, the service, and the ambiance were all excellent.

We had a wonderful meal at Cantine Caron. We opted for the 3-course a la carte menu. Each course was delicious, with a picture-perfect scene on the plate. Wine lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent.

Cool location, okay food, basic drinks selection

Had a pre-Christmas dinner here with colleagues. The food was excellent, the wines were lovely, the atmosphere was superb (beautiful industrial building, high ceilings), and the service was sharp and welcoming. What more could you ask for?

After visiting the museum, we wanted to eat something other than fries and deep-fried food in the Netherlands. :-) There are many options in the Westerpark area, but we liked the impressive architecture of the Cantine. At least the architecture wasn't a disappointment, although it was so cold that even my husband kept his coat on and warmed his hands by the tea light. When we arrived, seven tables were occupied, and the service consisted of two waiters. After an hour, a third, inexperienced waitress joined them. The drink menus arrived after 10 minutes, and the food menus after another 10 minutes. After 20 minutes, we finally received a bottle of tap water that tasted slightly of chlorine. This wasn't free, as you might expect on vacation; it cost €7.50. It would be nice to know the price beforehand; you're better off ordering different water. My rosé wine never arrived, and I had to ask for it to be removed from the bill. The small chicken and duck were okay; the sauce was the best part. We ordered fries as a side dish. The fries arrived lukewarm in a cold porcelain dish. On top of them was a cracked little tureen of mayonnaise – very unhygienic. Since street parking costs €7 an hour, we quickly asked for the bill. It was already quite uncomfortable because of the cold. I don't even want to imagine how bad the service must be when the place is full. The people at the next table waited just as long. They received their appetizers twice and twice pointed out that they wanted to eat the oysters first. The waitress then spent 20 minutes preparing them, which of course left little time for good service. I understand the kitchen's approach. But after that experience, we were glad we hadn't ordered the set menu. We're nice, relaxed customers, but if you're looking for a more upscale experience, the whole package should be right.

Nice restaurant. Busy, but good, efficient service. The food is good. I had the set menu. Beef tartare as a starter and the poussin (spring chicken) as a main course. Both were very good. There were two of us, but you can also go here with a group. I like the industrial setting.

Delicious food, fantastic ambiance, but above all, incredibly friendly staff, so attentive and customer-focused. Our waiter (from Aruba) was a gift, a great guy, humorous, a true hospitality enthusiast. The only downside were the restrooms; they weren't kept up to date, the trash cans were overflowing, and they weren't clean. That was a shame, but otherwise, highly recommended.

A truly honest lunch with equally excellent and super-friendly service. The room was practically empty, hence the mediocre atmosphere rating. I think it would have earned at least one more star if it had been full.

We celebrated my partner’s birthday here and it was so special. The service was fantastic, meaning: they were friendly, attentive, informative about the menu, kind, funny and gezellig. The food was 10/10, amazing! We loved all the dishes to literally the end of every bite. The place is beautiful, very high ceilings, beautiful decoration and atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff that interacted with us tonight, thank you to the Chef’s for the delicious food and for all the special aspect delivered to the birthday man. Dankjulliewel!!!

A wonderful experience with delicious dishes: I highly recommend the charcuterie with sourdough bread, and the polpo was truly fantastic! (It did cool down a bit, unfortunately.) Friendly service, and the atmosphere is very nice and warm. Highly recommended!

Had a lovely lunch - fish for two- monkfish- came with safrane rissotto- salad was a bit disappointing. Desert was nice - wine bourgogne excellent . Very good service .

The problem was the service. Far too slow. A table was available for 2 p.m., and a sandwich wasn't delivered until 3 p.m.... They weren't unfriendly, just incompetent.

I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but my experience was disappointing because of the way the lunch manager, Mirte, treated me. Her attitude came across as unpleasant and condescending, which completely overshadowed the atmosphere of the place. Hospitality should feel welcoming and respectful, especially in a restaurant. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. Instead of making guests feel comfortable, Mirte’s tone and approach made the experience awkward and uninviting The food itself was ok, but service matters just as much and in this case, it really let the restaurant down.

Yesterday we enjoyed a wonderful evening at Cantine de Caron. The menu offers a nice selection of classic French dishes. The service was attentive, knowledgeable, and kept the pace just right. Cantine de Caron is a gem for lovers of French cuisine. Authentic, atmospheric, and cozy. We will definitely be back!

To my surprise, I'm reading bad reviews about this restaurant. My opinion is as follows: the waitstaff is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional, the kitchen staff is thoughtful, humorous, and also very knowledgeable, and the location is fantastic! I think a large part of the experience depends on the guest's attitude. Those who act like a king will be treated like a king. If I could, I would give another star. Thank you! We had a delicious meal in a beautiful location with very nice people.

Overall experience was 3 out of 5 Starters and sides: 3 / 5 Main: 3 / 5 Oysters: 5 / 5 Dessert: 4 / 5 Wine: 5 / 5 Service and staff: 1 / 5 For starters, we tried the ceviche, the beef tartar and the roasted leek. They were all good but very average. I’ve had better tartar and the leek was very “okay”. Each were about €13 to €15 I think. For main dishes, we tried the chicken (poussin €25) and the courgette flower (€23). The chicken was absolutely amazing. Portion was good and while the chicken itself was a bit dry, the sauce and the mash made a nice balance and the flavor was amazing. The courgette flower however was a total disappointment. Basically a can of beans, too much beans. And the beans were also hard and undercooked. When we told our waitress about it, she said they’re supposed to be undercooked. This dish was a waste of money. We also had a side of fries that was pretty dry because it was too fried. A table of 4 shared one portion of fries and half of it was untouched. That gotta tell you they were not good. On to the dessert, the profiterole was a showstopper. It was the best thing from the night. The cheese was also good but didn’t match the price. In better restaurants you pay the same price and you get a more interesting selection of cheese and nuts and fruit. We also tried oysters and they were very fresh and light and delightful. Lastly, the service and the staff. The place is cute and aesthetic. But the it felt like the waiting staff were a group of untrained students that hate life! Our first waitress took so long to take out orders even though we called her many times and made many eye contacts. She totally ignored us and she was so sour when she was talking to us. Then I think her shift changes and the second waitress was better. There was also a big gap between the starters and the main course. We paid about €90 each but there wasn’t even complementary breads or free water on the table. We had to pay for the water as well text to the bottles of wines that we got.

We had a wonderful meal here! I was surprised by the diverse menu. In my photos, you can see the tomato tarte tartin (apéritif), the stuffed zucchini flower with ricotta (basic main course), and the lemon-meringue tarte (dessert). Perfect for a vegetarian! My table companions had the octopus and the poussin (chicken), among other dishes, and were also very satisfied. Their profiteroles dessert was also truly superb!

Atmosphere was fine, staff was friendly but the food was sad. The portions were small and nothing special, we were charged for the water that was already on the table and our friend who has a gluten allergy and did not eat a dessert still had to pay for it. I will not come back and I will not recommend it to anyone. What a shame..

My partner and I visited for dinner on July 22, 2025. The starter was good (the egg was missing from the beef tartar, however) but nothing exceptional. Both main courses were really not good. I had the fish from the set menu and my partner had the eggplant flower, also from the set menu. Neither tasted good. The fish was completely bland and tasteless, and the same was true of the eggplant. It wasn't really a feast for the eyes either. The dessert was good, but like the starter, nothing exceptional. However, in contrast to the food, the service was very convincing and competent. They were understanding but didn't offer any compensation, even though we had ordered a bottle of wine with the meal. All in all, it wasn't convincing for us and certainly couldn't be described as fine dining. Furthermore, the restaurant claims to serve French cuisine, but it's far from that—perhaps it's its own interpretation of French cuisine. You can certainly try it and some people will surely like it, but for me it's not worth another visit, not for 150 euros

Always a great atmosphere. The service is usually impeccable and the food is well priced and delicious. The wines are also great! Furthermore, they have a lovely outside terrace.

My family with 3 young children had a stellar meal here! The atmosphere felt a little fancy but the servers were super sweet and friendly to our children. We had the cote de boeuf and croque monsieur and both were fantastic. The dry aged steak was perfectly cooked and had incredible flavor. The croque monsieur was perfectly cheesy and gooey. We had such a great time and would highly recommend coming here.

If you’re going to charge two people over $200 for dinner, then don’t make us sit around like we’re waiting for a delayed flight out of LaGuardia. Thirty minutes between dishes isn’t pacing. It is negligence dressed up as fine dining. Our waitress, bless her honesty, told us the kitchen was backed up because the place was packed. Fair enough. But then what’s the point of taking reservations if you can’t handle the crowd? That’s not hospitality, it is a logistic failure. Learn the difference. And charging for water? Come on. That’s not just cheap, but also cynical. A restaurant that bills itself as elevated but nickel-and-dimes you for the most basic human need isn’t classy.I would say do better, but I don’t think you have the capacity. Honestly, for that kind of money, I wish the chef had come out and given us a kiss. At least then, we could’ve called it a happy ending.

Once again a great experience, delicious food, drinks and enjoyed the hospitality. Attractive menu thanks to the variety of dishes, everything was very tasty and well coordinated. The timing between the courses was just right, so you could really relax and enjoy. Very friendly and neat service with knowledge of the subject. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, with a young, dynamic and professional team that responds well to your wishes. In short, a wonderful evening!

Cantine The Carion was delicious. The place is beautiful, the main dining room is spacious and tasteful, and it has a very comfortable terrace. The service was very good and the food was delicious!

The food is not bad but also not very special. Service itself friendly but not very attentive or considerate, it was not busy but still things were forgotten or wrong or not brought unfortunately. I would not advise against it but there are some points for improvement here and there.

Nice friendly service, nice location. Food was mediocre. I have eaten very well here before but this time it was a bit disappointing. We had a three course lunch and there was nothing I really enjoyed, it was ok but nothing special, I would say a 6. It was still nice but a shame about the food. Entrance: mother in a wheelchair through a large heavy door that you have to hold open and at the same time try to get a chair through… Waiter saw us struggling, only came after calling a few times. French concept, wooden chairs / white tablecloths, copper pans & bunches of lavender. Service was friendly. Water service 🙄 Dishes reasonable, only vegetarian dish (aubergine) with cubes of ‘ratatouille’ bland taste, wilted zucchini flower. Salad: cut a stalk of romaine in half and voila: pile of leaves with a hard core, watery taste and too sweet vinaigrette. If you have Alain Caron in front of you, this is what you get. Business model without soul.

A la carte choice is limited, the restaurant suggests a course which I not expensive. Overall food was excellent. Unfortunate, the noise level of sounds echoing is really annoying, please fix the acoustics that measured up to average of 88 decibel. Please lowering the noise level to 70 to have me visit again.

Beautiful food, but the long wait overshadowed the experience The food at Cantine de Caron was absolutely delicious — every dish was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. The service was warm and attentive throughout. However, we had to wait over 30 minutes between courses, from the appetizer to the main and then again for dessert. Unfortunately, this disrupted the flow of the evening and really took away from what could have been a perfect dining experience. With better pacing, this place could easily be a favorite.

We visited this place with my office colleagues, we were amazed to see the variety of wines it had. We were a bit disappointed by the portion of food. We ordered a 3 course meal, which was not really filling. Ambience was raw, broken walls, patched windows and a bit of french culture. Maybe liked by some people, but I did not.

Very nice fine dining experience. It’s not really pretentious either. We came here as a company team bonding dinner, and we all loved it! Everything I picked from the 3 course menu was amazing. For the wine, we just explained what we were looking for and the waiter picked a really nice bottle for us. I think the prices are quite fair for the overall experience you get. We seriously cant understand the low rating. The service and ambience was top notch in regards to the pricing. 4/5 for the food, what was still good. Only the beetroot carpaccio was a bit "boring" but stil good.

Cantine de Caron is such a nice place! I love the interior, the athmosphere and the service and food is just great! I enjoyed it every time I visited this beautiful place. One of my favorite restaurants!

Follow-up review – Cantine x Binnenvisser (May 2025). We returned to Cantine de Caron, this time for a special collaboration with Binnenvisser and what a party it was again. Expectations were high, and they were truly exceeded on all fronts. The 4-course menu (plus amuse and finale) was simply brilliant. From the elegant amuse of cabbage with black garlic to the tomato tarte tatin, crispy, sweet and sour and full of flavour. The grilled scallops with chicken neck garum and that amazing sauce were so delicious that we would have liked to lick the plate clean. Then came the lamb neck with lamb's ear and whey sauce, perfectly cooked and full of umami. The dessert of asparagus sorbet with crème Suisse and the fresh, floral finale concluded this spring celebration perfectly. And spring was well and truly here, great!! The Domaine Le Fay d’Homme Muscadet 2024, presented by a proud sommelier, matched the dishes beautifully. The atmosphere was fantastic again. The service was just as great as last time!! How wonderful it is to see people at work who enjoy what they do and who really radiate that and can also enjoy it as a team. They were attentive, warm and with sincere attention. The location remains unique: high ceilings, beautifully set tables and the view of the open kitchen provide an almost Parisian ambiance in the heart of Amsterdam. In short: Cantine continues to innovate and surpass itself and is now in my top three. We will definitely come back!!

very disappointing experience! Inattentive staff, very salty starter, raw (literally red) meat instead of medium raw cote d beef. our main course was forgotten to be passed on to the kitchen, which meant we had to wait 1 hour for our food. my wife's vegetarian risotto was not cooked, our meat rare instead of medium. drinks were forgotten. in general a very bad experience. too expensive for what you get served at the table. Fancy Cafe Restaurant Amsterdam if I may.. more posh, but has the same industrial vibe, nice menu, bit high on price compared to the portions but nice place all together!

Can only describe it as a restaurant where they have they exact food you’re craving for. Simple but the best version of that if you know what I mean, not too much blabla

I had a wonderful evening but unfortunately, not thanks to the restaurant. There were 6 of us, we waited 40 minutes for the starter, then 20 minutes for the main course, which arrived lukewarm/cold… The service was pleasant but it depended on the servers. A final note of ~55€ per person starter main course dessert wine, which remains very reasonable, but ultimately logical... I expected better given the reviews on the establishment.

Hot day and I was afraid it would be stuffy inside, but that was not the case. It's noisy but you can still hear each other (there were 4 of us at a table). Service, very friendly and polite!
