Bar Rouge in Grachtengordel-Zuid

We arrived for a birthday around 7 o'clock, waiting for the “shows”. We waited for about an hour (no DJ in the meantime or anything like that), and then a lady came to sing. This lasted 5 minutes and then the party was over. After an hour, there was another 5-minute show; the gift had been forgotten after asking a few times. While filming, an employee forcefully grabbed my phone to film even though I did not want this. I found this very disrespectful. As for the food, the price-quality ratio was completely out of proportion. All in all, not worth repeating.

The service was well below average. It took ages for them to bring a drinks menu over and then even longer to order anything from them. When we ordered, we could see our bottle of wine sitting on the side for 25 minutes. The waiting staff just kept walking past it and honestly they were doing nothing. When they brought out food over we asked for our wine and told them we could just see it sitting there. Also had to remind them we’d ordered a bottle of water. The food was well below average and portions were tiny. The dj and the performances were good.

Went to bar rouge thinking it would be a fun evening out, however the service quickly set the tone of the evening, we arrived and they were slow to take our order, we then ordered a bottle of wine which we could see was just sat on the side for 25 minutes, staff walked past it and ignored it, we didn’t get it until we chased someone, drinks, starters and mains were all brought out together. The shows were enjoyable and around every 30 mins, food was ok, but overall wouldn’t return

The shows were really nice however we were expecting the food to be so much better (it was honestly mid) and the DJ was VERY bad. He really doesn’t know how to mix which made the music really weird and not pleasant to listen and vibe to.

Nice restaurant. I was curious given the negative reviews, and my reservation had previously been cancelled without warning. Now everything went smoothly. Friendly staff, nice decor in the restaurant, and the service was good. The food is fine, though not amazing in terms of taste sensation. There are two entertainment moments during the evening. It's a nice way to spend the evening cooking. As for the restrooms, there are two toilets for everyone. So that involves a bit of a wait. Apparently, it is the hotspot for many women (groups). You don't notice it otherwise, though; the DJ drowns out all the sound inside. So you can't always understand each other. Did you eat a lot and well for this price? Well... you are also paying for the location and entertainment, among other things. A fine experience for a change.

The place is undoubtedly special. The food leaves much to be desired; it was sushi night, and everything was cold, tasted like old fish, and was awful. Not to mention they were tiny; I think they simply cut 3 normal sushi pieces and made 6. I can't describe how bad it was.

The “fresh” tuna tasted like it had been marinating in low tide and broken dreams.

I have never been someone who leaves reviews, positive or negative, but this place deserves an exception. The sushi was underwhelming at best. I have had better from a local supermarket. Paying €55 for a few pieces is hard to justify when the quality simply is not there. Even the oysters lacked freshness and did not have that clean, briny taste you would expect. The service did not help either. Drinks took an unusually long time to arrive, and the overall pace was very slow. Overall, overpriced, disappointing food and sluggish service. Not worth it.

I'm only writing a review now, but I was here for Valentine's Day. I had really been looking forward to it; they were having a Valentine's Special evening. They were also teasing it extensively on Instagram. So expectations were high. Upon arrival, we were 5 minutes early. We were standing outside, but "our table wasn't ready yet, because you're too early." I was wearing a dress and heels myself (because it was date night) and it was very cold, around freezing point. After asking and consulting with the staff inside, we were actually allowed to wait inside instead of outside. Once inside, apart from the quality of the coffee—which was top-notch—everything was disappointing. The entertainment was of a low standard. Orders were not taken (we had to approach waitstaff ourselves every time for drinks/food). The main course came first, after which the starter was placed on the table "alongside" it. Chaotic and inhospitable. Our date night was fun because we are in love. Not because of what Bar Rouge offered. Very disappointing. Especially for the price. Not recommended!

The show and the interior is very beautiful and exciting! A special experience in Amsterdam. The service, however, spoiled our overall impression, sadly. We ordered a set menu. But ended up getting only the starter in over 2 hours that we were there. The main course and the desert were never brought. At some point the waiter came and cleaned only one half of the table! He then followed by bringing the dish only for my partner and not for me. Two minutes later he came back saying that he brought the dish by mistake and took it away. After the long wait, the correct dish never arrived. At 22.00 the DJ started blasting incredibly loud cheap party music (like 50 Cent and Sean Paul) which is fine in itself for a bar on Leidseplein but doesn’t really match the described vibe of a Parisian burlesque, besides it was a bit unexpected for the dinner setting. I didn’t feel like waiting any longer for the main course in this atmosphere and decided to leave to buy some food at the night store as we were still hungry after paying 100 euro + entry ticket of 20 for 2 people. Would advice to work on the service, as the place itself and the concept are really great!

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. The rice in the sushi was truly awful and hard, even though you pay a lot of money for it. We had to send the bill back three times because it listed something we hadn't ordered. We also had to wait 20 minutes for our coats. Very disappointing. Regarding your response: I see a whole lot of text and not a single apology. If you are training staff and everything goes wrong, you cannot charge these prices. Lots of excuses, taking little responsibility for the poor service.

Absolutely appalled by the poor service we had. Despite us being the second group of people to sit at the table it took 2 hrs to bring out 4 of the 5 meals we had ordered. The meals weren’t even brought out together, lots of questioning where our food and drinks were to which the waitress was very rude and not a single apology. The portion sizes were small, average in taste and very overpriced. There’s much better places to eat out and better value for money.

On arrival we were the second table to be seated, our drinks order was taken. Every other table seated at this stage managed to get their drinks and started with their food orders before we had even received our drinks (bare in mind we ordered 5 cocktails and a 130 euro bottle of champagne). After 40 minutes and asking where our drinks were they finally arrived. On ordering food, we had starters which came out in dribs and drabs, not all at the same time. Then the first show started. Performance was incredible but all food service came to a hault. Leaving us without all of our starters for the group, meaning we didn't all eat together and enjoy our food. Mains were then ordered after flagging the waitress as she attended every other table bar ours, who then took our order but must have forgotten to add all of our meals to our table order. One meal arrived and after another 30 minutes of waiting and asking again where our food was 3 more meals were brought out. A second performer came out (again incredible performance) but yet again, all food orders were suspended meaning 4 of our party had now eaten their food leaving 1 member of our party without food. We queried where our last meal was to which they said they served it on the first person's plate (un-true as we had pictures of the meal, and WHO serves 2 peoples meals on the same plate?!!!). When asking the waitress if we could speak to management, she argued with us that she had done her job and all the meals had been served and we were not treated differently to every other person within the establishment. We asked again for the manager who then came out. They said again that 2 peoples meals were served on 1 plate. We showed evidence and still we were shut down. We all left deflated, disappointed and one of our party was not fed. They then miraculously appeared with our friends food, at this stage she was too upset to even eat it. The manager then said atleast try the food. We were the only British within the setting and we were treated poorly in comparison to every other person within the building. When paying for the bill we asked if we could all pay our separate amounts to which we were huffed and puffed and and looked down upon. Between the 5 people we had in our group we spend a fortune, yet we're treated like we did not belong. Utterly disappointed and would recommend that waiting staff are trained up with some better customer service skills. If I could give no stars for service we received thats what they staff would be getting. On a positive note the ladies performing were completely and utterly mesmerising and were the highligh of the entirety we were there.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at Bar Rouge. The food was very disappointing – the sushi rice was hard and therefore not tasty. The espresso martini was also very watery and lacked flavor. Additionally, the bill was incorrect several times. We had to send it back three times because something was wrong with it every time. In the end, the only explanation we received was that it was busy and that someone had gone home sick. It is understandable that things can be hectic sometimes, but unfortunately, this did not improve the experience. All in all, the visit was disappointing, and I would not be returning here anytime soon.

Ate here with girlfriends 2 weeks ago. I have never experienced such chaotic and terrible service. Too many unnecessary mistakes were made, and then they acted as if we were whining and couldn't be satisfied. Drinks took a long time; the food was fine, but again, due to the service and very poor communication, the experience was simply bad. The entertainment is fun, the music was good, it is an experience, but the food and the service just make it downright bad. It is a huge shame because it is a nice and good concept. It would be great if something were done about it, given the many similar bad reviews.

What a terrible place/staff. We were a group of 4 and arrived well on time. You get 2 hours to eat and after that you have to leave immediately. We had reserved for 19:00 and at 19:30 we received our first course. After this there were 2 shows, and because of this we didn't receive our second course until 20:20. We hadn't even finished the second course yet when at 20:35 our third course was already shoved onto the table. After 10 minutes, the waitress came to let us know that they were going to do the last round of drinks for our table (no problem, but it all felt very rushed). At 20:55 another waitress came to our table to say: ‘I have the bill here for now, and I am giving you your 4th course to go because you weren't here on time and there is no time left to serve it at this moment.’ Naturally, we did not agree to this, since apparently we have to eat 3 courses in 40 minutes. Finally, after a whole lot of sighing and groaning, we received the 4th course (which was literally nothing, as it wasn't even a single bite), eventually got the bill, and also had to pay €9.50 per person for the show (which is not mentioned anywhere on Social Deal) what a rip-off!!! Very bad experience and we certainly won't be coming back here.. what a lousy place with terribly arrogant staff! Shame on you!

This restaurant felt like a huge disappointment to us, and unfortunately, even a bit like a scam. We arrived about fifteen minutes past our reservation time. That can happen, and we understand that, but from the moment we sat down, we were literally told every few minutes that we had to hurry because the table was only available for two hours and would be reserved again after that. Fine, rules are rules. That is why we immediately ordered all courses from the menu and our drinks at once so that everything could proceed faster. Nevertheless, the wait staff kept constantly asking if we wanted to order anything else, while simultaneously saying that we had to leave soon. As a result, we felt incredibly rushed and had to consume our food and drinks hastily without being able to enjoy ourselves in peace or talk to each other. There was also a live performance, but I couldn't even see it. We were sitting in a corner where the DJ was standing, and there was another couple in between, so there was no view. Due to the constant pressure to hurry, there was no moment to enjoy it anyway. We asked for bottled water, but were given tap water in their own bottle, which was also lukewarm. Because we were already being rushed so much, I didn't even mention it at that point. The staff told us several times that we could stay until 9:00 PM, while on paper our time ran until 8:45 PM. So we assumed we had perhaps been given an extra fifteen minutes. Additionally, one person from our reservation ultimately did not show up. According to the website, you can report this so that the entrance fee is refunded. I therefore called the restaurant in advance, and they indicated that they had made a note and that the amount would be deducted from the bill. That seemed fine to us. However, when we received the bill, it turned out that amount had not been deducted at all. When I pointed this out, I was told that the hotel (with which they collaborate) had registered that I had called about this, but that I had to send an email to get the entrance fee refunded. According to them, they could no longer refund it on the spot because the cancellation period had passed. Even though they themselves confirmed that I had indeed called on time and that a note had been made of it. When I indicated that this shouldn't be my problem because it had been promised to me, a whole discussion ensued. We then had to wait another ten minutes. After that, the wait staff returned with a new bill on which there was suddenly an extra €27. When I asked where this amount came from, they said it was because I had brought my own cake. According to the website, you only pay for this per plate used. However, we hadn't ordered any extra plates for the cake at all. Another discussion arose about this as well, and the manager kept insisting that I was wrong. I then asked her to check the website herself. Eventually, it turned out that I was right after all. This also took another ten minutes. As a result, we were by now twenty minutes over the time they themselves had so strictly emphasized. Ironically, this happened because of their own mistakes. I had an appointment with people after dinner who had to wait for me because of this. And the most remarkable thing: during those twenty minutes, not a single group came to our table claiming to have made a reservation. In fact, there were plenty of other tables available at that moment. In other words: the story that our table was needed again immediately simply wasn't true. I have rarely had such a bad and uncomfortable experience in a restaurant, certainly not at a place that is promoted so heavily. There really are much better places where you can eat in peace and where service and hospitality are taken seriously. I would therefore absolutely skip this restaurant.

Such a good night for a friends birthday

We went out for dinner at Bar Rouge on Valentine's Day, where a misunderstanding arose regarding the time slot. We discussed this with the manager, and as a result, we were allowed to try again a month later; this time, everything was properly arranged. We had a lovely waitress, Nina, who made sure everything ran smoothly.

Terrible dinner. We came from Italy to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with 10 other friends, all of whom were dissatisfied with the evening. We booked a dinner show, but we never saw the show because it apparently ended at 9:30 PM (our arrival time). Obviously, the website doesn't specify the times. Later, we were told we couldn't open the cake at midnight in the restaurant because they close at 11 PM (on a Friday night). When we asked to move to the supper club next door to get some bottles and open the cake, we were told we'd have to pay €900 for a table to go, after having already paid €800 at the restaurant. In conclusion, we ate the cake at 11 PM and were already on our way by midnight (our actual birthday). Never again.

The entertainment was good, but you don't have to come here for the delicious food. It was overpriced and actually just plain cold and tasteless. If you go, I recommend being well-drunk, because the food tastes better that way.

We went here as a surprise from my boyfriend for my birthday, and what a great evening! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed in such a lovely way. The atmosphere was top-notch, the staff so friendly, and the food truly delicious. The music completed the experience: R&B, my fav! Exactly the right vibe. We even had shots with the staff 😄 You can tell from everything that they enjoy what they do, and that rubs off on the guests. The service is genuinely excellent and personal. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Definitely worth repeating and highly recommended! 💃🏽✨

Read the fine print carefully when booking a table. Not only do you have to pay for the reservation itself, but you’re also required to spend at least €50 on food and drinks, which aren’t anything special. The selection of dishes and beverages is underwhelming too. It’s definitely not worth the money you’ll end up spending.

The price to quality ratio was very bad. The sushi presentation was nice but it did not taste fresh nor good. The food arrived very late and everything came separately. ( drinks and food) . The minimum spending was 50 euro so you had to order more whether or not you like the food. The atmosphere isn’t as fancy as it seems online and it’s an underground bar that has been decorated. The order was also wrong few times. The show was nice and entertaining. However not worth the price. Nice idea but horrible execution. Hope to see you improve more in the future!

We had the Valentine's Day event booked for months before as we were visiting for my best friends wedding anniversary and we were all so excited to go. There was no table reservations when booking tickets so we assumed if we turned up early then we would get a half decent seat for our group. Upon arrival we were seated at the very back of the venue, completely away from where the event was happening and we were sat basically in the kitchen with all the staff. The event had lovely red lighting moving around the room and we were sat under had LED lighting pointing right in our face. We also couldn't see into the event area as there is huge pillars blocking all view. Our waitress also told us that these tables aren't normally used and are staff only tables. I tried to make a point of this to the waiters and were told that there was nothing they could do as the event was fully booked but the restaurant was still half empty to which I clearly pointed out. After pointing this out to our waitress she said she would go get the manager, to which she did but took over 20/30 minutes and in that time the restaurant filled up. When the manager finally came over she told us that there was nothing that she could do and was quite rude and patronising to our group acting as if we had bought some kind of cheap money saver ticket when we in fact paid the same price as everybody else at the event. The only compensation offered was the cheapest nastiest bottle of CAVA even after complaining. Money wasted. Evening wasted. Food was disgusting. Definitely won't ever be returning and will be telling friends and family not to go either.

One of the cool places i have visited in Amsterdam! The atmosphere is unique and nice vibes are there all night long. Definitely recommend if you like a little performance with your dining experience. We got their special plate of sushi including many options, but i would say the food itself was very mid and the taste was not so special. The drinks were amazing on the other hand! The staff are super lovely and nice.

I'm telling you honestly, this is truly the place to be. I've been here twice now, and the service is fantastic. It really feels like one big family. Great music, delicious food, and a super cozy atmosphere. The people who work here clearly go above and beyond. They regularly check in on you, stop by for a chat, and make you feel welcome. This is a place I'd happily return to every month. I'll definitely be coming back much more often!

Came here a couple nights ago, the food was good and the atmosphere was cool. The show is something to see, but not worth how much you pay for only 2 shows. The drinks took forever, when we asked the waitress where they were she didnt come back for another 10 min with our drinks. Overall has a lot of potential but the staff was rude and inattentive, it seemed we were their last priority.

I had a great time at this restaurant. The ambiance was beautiful, and the live shows during dinner made the whole experience feel really immersive. Even though it was busy, the servers were kind and did their best—our drinks were a bit slow, but the waiter handled it well. After dinner, the performers invited everyone to dance with them, which was super fun. Overall, I really enjoyed the dinner show!

We celebrated a friend's birthday at Bar Rouge with a group of six. Unfortunately, the evening was disappointing. Despite having made a reservation for 7:00 PM, we had to wait in the pouring rain because the restaurant wasn't open yet. We received a friendly welcome inside, but were given a drafty seat next to a dirty restroom that hadn't been cleaned since the night before. The service left much to be desired. Glasses were missing, drinks took ages to arrive, and the waitstaff was barely attentive. Even though we had informed them in advance that there were vegetarians in the group, the selection was minimal. The food arrived late, was partly cold, and we received less than we ordered. The shows were enjoyable, but the sound was so loud that we couldn't hear each other or the staff. Furthermore, there was no option to order extra food during the shows. When we indicated we wanted to pay after 2.5 hours—and only four pieces of sushi per person—the manager asked why we wanted to leave. Yet, the concept wasn't explained all evening, and we received little attention. Bar Rouge has potential: the concept is unique and the entertainment is strong. But the execution falls short due to understaffing, poor communication, and long wait times. We went home with fries to compensate, but without a satisfied feeling. A shame, because there's potential for something truly great here.

Just received excellent help with my reservation through Bar Rouge's Instagram account. Communication was quick, clear, and very friendly. I'm looking forward to dining here and debunking the mediocre reviews, because so far I've been treated excellently and politely. A promising first impression! 🥰

They're scammers. We bought three tickets for the R&B Brunch through Weeztix. The digital tickets clearly stated that the brunch would take place from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. However, the tickets they offered turned out to be for the party after the brunch. When we arrived, they couldn't help us because the kitchen was already closed. We were told we would get our money back—as mentioned in other reviews—but after that, it was impossible to contact them. They went unanswered to our emails.

In general everything was fine. But we had a booking till 21:15, and already at 20:30 we received the bill and it felt that we were getting pushed out. For the price we paid it felt a little bit unfriendly.

We had reserved a table at Bar Rouge for 7:00 PM. There's a 10-euro entrance fee for the show. To our surprise, the actual show didn't start until 9:00 PM—just when we had to leave our table, as it was needed for the next round of guests. We ordered the three-course menu, but dessert took a very long time to arrive, arriving around 8:55 PM. Before we could even finish it, the waitress was back at our table with the card reader. All in all, I thought that was rather rude. It's a shame you pay an entrance fee for a show you ultimately don't get to see. The portions are also very small; I went home feeling a bit hungry.

What a disappointment, having to pay an entrance fee for a show. It turned out to be just one Lady Gaga song with one dancer. We booked a table for 7:15 PM, and it was available until 9:15 PM, which was fine, no problem. The next reservation arrived at 9:00 PM, and was then told it would be 8:30 PM. The main course was a small sea bass fillet and a total of six slices of bavette on lettuce, cut on a cutting machine, it seemed. Literally an amuse-bouche. We had to wait fifteen minutes for our first drinks, and we had to ask for the second round ourselves, which took another fifteen minutes. I never write reviews, but holy moly, this was terrible.

The food took a very long time and half our order never arrived. The waiter kept pushing us to leave and taking our food even though we weren’t finished. The portions were very small. The performance was fun but the atmosphere was ruined.

Lost a portable charger there a couple months ago was told to email about it. Never heard back about the email so spent a good couple hundred years there and lost a 100€ charger. Really sucks the service really terrible experience

What a terrible place. Way too expensive, too little food, we had to wait a really long time for our food twice, the music was way too loud, etc. Furthermore, everyone was more focused on themselves (the guests) than engaging in pleasant conversation. The only positive was that we were politely provided with a glass of wine because we had to wait so long twice. You'll never see me there again.

Fantastic experience, delicious food, and great acts. Beautiful surroundings and an atmospheric setting. The staff was very friendly.
