BAUT Oost in Weesperzijde

Not my best experience in Amsterdam, and I go there often. The reception was unpleasant. We were seated in a nearly empty restaurant right next to an occupied table. After some protests, we were reluctantly ushered into another table. The food wasn't bad, but it was very pricey. I find that automatic tip on the bill an absolute scandal. Go do that in America and pay your staff properly. That is how we do it in the Netherlands.

We haven't had such a good meal in a long time, even though we're used to very good restaurants here in Berlin. I had the chef's menu and my partner had four courses à la carte. Everything was superb, the flavors were perfectly balanced, and the price was really fair. The drinks were also fantastic. And the service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back. 👌🏻

I had the special menu and for just under €50 it was absolutely fantastic! I was the only guest inside because I can't stand loud noises, but I still never felt forgotten. Excellent service, I highly recommend it!

In almost a decade of living in the Netherlands, I not come across the level of customer service as I experienced with my visit to Baut Oost. I was in awe the entire evening to the amount of detail and effort that was put in by the staff from start to finish. I was truly impressed.

Delicious drinks and lovely waiters

Nice and fast service. Very large terrace with plenty of shade but also sun. We stopped here for an oyster walk; surprising combinations, and there was even a separate menu for the walk.

Agree with the other reviews that wonder how this place only gets 4.3 — had a delicious first meal in Amsterdam, and every bite was yum.

My goodness, it was delicious again. ENJOYED it in capital letters. And when the service, and therefore the atmosphere, is good too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I come here often and haven't been for a while; I am a local resident. The standard of the dishes is quite high and goes hand in hand with creativity. The wine list has improved, featuring better houses, but perhaps still deserves some attention. I recommend this to anyone looking for high-level dining at reasonable prices, combined with a great atmosphere and fine background music. The staff is very friendly, from the chefs to the waitstaff, and they clearly explain what the dish entails. I didn't have cocktails this time, but they are fine too. A great place for the neighborhood; a keeper as far as I'm concerned!

We ate here for my boyfriend's 30th birthday and it was amazing. We had delicious oysters as a starter and then went for the five-course menu. The service was top-notch, especially Janick, who really went out of his way to make it a special evening and helped us choose the wines. Highly recommended!

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. Upon arrival, we were served water, which we drank a little of, assuming it was free. After a few minutes looking at the menu, we decided to leave because the dishes were not what we were looking for and were very expensive. When we told the server we were leaving, she asked us to pay for the water. We were initially told it was €6, but the final bill came to €13 for two bottles. We had been there for barely two minutes. Unacceptable service and a very frustrating experience. We do not recommend this place.

Last night, February 14th, I was fortunate enough to attend a birthday party on the first floor. It was a very atmospheric and intimate space. The host who was there for us deserves special mention. Exceptionally attentive, friendly, and humorous! Congratulations, Daniëlle Post.

I have been here several times. The atmosphere is great, stylish hip. Baut has a nice menu, good drinks and nice service. Last night most was OK. But some of the vegetarian dishes were not up to Baut standard, which was disappointing. So a lower score on food this time.

A place who have the most disrespectful workers. This bar have a station for portable powerbank, which is controlled by its own app, does have nothing to do with the bar. I was stranded in the snow and trying to get a powerbank to charge my phone so I can see the possibilities to reach my home. They were either getting ready or what, but their door was open, although I beg to take powerbank (payment is being done directly in the app, nothing to do with bar) - lady there said they are close and she was really disrespectful, I kept my nice and explain the situation - however she did not allow me to take a powerbank. I don't know which one is worse, being cold and heartless to not help a person who got stranded or being insanely rude and disrespectful when refusing doing that. I was their customer, but absolutely not anymore.

Making a last-minute reservation for Boxing Day turned out to be a great and enjoyable idea. The welcome at Baut was, as always, fantastic, and a spot at the chef's table was a pleasant surprise. The Christmas menu looked appealing, and changing one dish due to an allergy was no problem at all. The wines and dishes were beautifully presented, with clear explanations of what we were being served. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed, yet festive. We had another wonderful evening, see you soon!

I don't understand how this place gets 4.3. it's definitely a 4.8+4.9 Food was marvelous, the service was full of good intentions, but a bit messy. We sat on the open kitchen bar and we were amazed by how smoothly they are creating these beautiful and delicious creations. Every dish was spot on.

Unfortunately, our visit was short-lived, as they only offer set menus, which wasn't what we wanted. A shame, because we really liked the atmosphere!

Loved this place! Great vibe, friendly staff, and really good food... everything felt fresh and well put together. The coffee was excellent too. It’s got that perfect mix of relaxed and lively, ideal for grabbing lunch or winding down after an event. They also have a power bank rental service (run by ICCXX) which is super handy if your phone’s dying.... though the setup can feel a bit confusing at first. Once you get it working, it’s convenient, but the process could definitely be made smoother for new users. Overall, a brilliant spot with great energy and attention to detail. Would happily come back next time I’m in Amsterdam.

I booked this restaurant for a birthday celebration and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The private room was beautifully set up and fully equipped, creating such a special atmosphere. A cozy (but somewhat pretentious) shop with okay-ish food in absurdly small portions. I ordered two appetizers and a side. Okay, but nothing special. The portions were still too small for my three-year-old nephew. The Cote de Boef was more rind than meat. You pay by the ounce. So, for two people, it was already €90. With the other dishes—two reds, two glasses of espresso, and a bottle of water—we were €160 lighter. Then we finally believed it; we got dessert from the Appie across the street. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is good, and the drinks are tasty, but the food, unfortunately, wasn't anything special.

I highly recommend it. I had a very pleasant dinner with well-prepared and tasty dishes. The service was always attentive and friendly. I enjoyed an excellent Oedipus beer.

Course menu is a must try! Food is excellent - I had Hamachi, Barbecued Quail, Grey Mullet and for dessert Chocolate Mille-Feuille. Nice ambience and service was excellent, staff was caring and friendly. Definitely will come back!

The concept is a multi-course menu where you can choose your own dishes. The food itself was really good and well-prepared, but the service unfortunately left much to be desired: inattentive, distant, and certainly not what you'd expect for the prices they charge. The prices are very high for what you ultimately get. It seems like they're trying to create a high-end dining experience, but apart from the food, that doesn't quite pan out. It's a shame, because with better service and a better price-quality ratio, this restaurant could make a much bigger impression.

What I didn't like at all was the somewhat sly way they tried to get tourists to spend more money. Initially, they only gave us a menu with a few dishes and drinks. We then chose some dishes to eat, along with the beers. When they brought these dishes to us, we were also presented with the actual menu! If we'd had all the menus at once, we would have chosen differently, and we would certainly have spent much less! It's a shame about this behavior, because the dishes are truly delicious!!! If you don't get ripped off like we were, it's a place worth trying.

The service staff made sure we feel comfy and welcomed right away. The food was amazing, inventive and tasty through the row. We ended up being in a bit of a hurry, and as soon as we let the staff know, they did all within their power to allow us to still have our desert. Very professional and friendly, very much recommend this place :)!

Quality service, original and cozy decor, our dog was accepted without any problem, small but robust dishes. A nice place far from the tourist cacophony. We recommend it. Glad to have discovered it.

We held our post-wedding dinner here, and booking the private dining room was absolutely perfect! The food was delicious, the drinks were great, and all our guests were incredibly satisfied. The service was top-notch – our server even remembered everyone's food preferences without a single mistake. Totally worth it!

Before coming, I had read several negative reviews about the service, so I was a little wary... But honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The staff clearly does their best, even if there are sometimes some difficulties with English. You can tell they're truly invested and attentive. And above all: the food was excellent! Truly a great time. I recommend it without hesitation; sometimes you have to make up your own mind! We were in a hurry, and they were quick and understanding. We ordered two 500g beef ribs for four, with fries. The meat was tender, juicy, flavorful, and delicious. The fries were simply incredible with a good Belgian mayonnaise. Just right, nothing frustrating! I'll be back.

We always loved coming to you – BAUT was the place for good food, great service, and surprising dishes. Last week, we happily brought friends, but unfortunately, we went home disappointed. When it cooled down outside, we asked if we could sit inside, but were refused because the service would only focus on the terrace. Understandable perhaps, but the service outside was also lacking: it wasn't busy, but we received little attention. Several dishes were gone or didn't arrive (like the tuna and bavette), and the dessert looked like it had been hastily thrown on the plate – and unfortunately, tasted that way too. We were truly disappointed. Especially because we always recommend BAUT, it feels especially disappointing that it was so disappointing this time. We hope you will do something about this. Baut is my favorite place for dinner. Everything, absolutely everything is delicious. You can sit at the bar and watch your food being prepared. Arancini, ravioli, côte de boeuf, steak tartare, oysters… try something different from the menu every time. Staff is friendly, competent and involved. Good selection of wines. Atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable.

I can say that it was the best meal I have had in the Netherlands so far. Great atmosphere, nice service staff and delicious food. I will come back as soon as possible.

Had a lovely meal outside on the terrace. Many of the mussels we ordered were still closed. They took them back and removed them from the bill. Unfortunately, we had the last one. We asked for overcooked fries with parmesan. We didn't get them at first, but they removed them and they replaced them with exactly the right fries. Friendly service, delicious food and good service. The busy road is still a bit of a problem, but you know that in advance when you sit outside.

For the price, i would expect the food to be more on point (sauce was a bit too sweet, duck was very under cooked), plus the portion is extremely small but this is expected The menu options were confusing: 6eur extra is charged if you order a 3-course menu but don’t order a dessert (?!!!), however if you order a 4-course menu you don’t need to pay this extra 6e… I would not come back.

About the worst thing I've eaten/experienced in a long time. Short summary: pretentious hipster place, completely incompetent service, wine selection a joke, beautifully presented food tastes meaningless. 1. Service had no idea about catering. Menu explanation made no sense, forgot drinks twice, glass almost torpedoed straight through the table, knew nothing about wine and barely poured anything. 2. You immediately know from the food that it is run by a Dutchman, because the portions were as measly as could be. Black Angus beef for 21 euros on the menu was literally three thin strips of meat with salami cut even thicker. Flavors were meaningless, because everything was covered in sauce that didn't really match the star of the dish. Why use expensive mackerel if all I'm left with is the mouthfeel of fish? 3. We sat next to the kitchen where dessert was being made. There, an employee found a dessert so tasty while preparing the plates that he ate a piece from the container in one bite and then threw the pieces of dessert onto the plates with the same hand. It looked like a Jiskefet scene... 4. Wine was a joke. For wine by the glass, I could have even chosen better bottles at the supermarket and I am not a vinologist. Sparse choice by the glass, most is by the bottle. Recommendations are at the level of a novice wine drinker. 5. We paid well over 150 euros for 2 people for barely good food, mediocre wine and incompetent service. Looking for something pretentious to empty your wallet? Are you in the right place here? Are you looking for authentic good food and do you want to walk out with a well-filled stomach and feeling? Then stay away from here with all your might!

It's very pricey for the quality of the food to be honest. I really enjoyed the seared mackerel, but the slow cooked egg thing was very meh in taste. The steak was just an average steak, I've had better.

Never order steak here unless you want it to taste like your worst online date: dry, bitter, and expensive. I had to wait forty minutes for disappointment, and received a disaster instead of food. To be honest, you are not allowed to order less than two dishes; however, all the food here is not much better than that awful meat. I keep two stars only for the friendly waiter, who removed the steakefrom my bill. I will never return.

This place is an experience like no other. Walking in, we were greeted by Robin and seated by the kitchen island. Dylan and Rick, one of the chefs and the head chef, explained the menu and showed genuine interest in us and our preferences. I've rarely seen a better kitchen team. Shortly after, one of the owners, Tom, presented us with the new wine menu and gave us a little background info about the restaurant. Needless to say, the food was nothing short of amazing and will leave you wanting for more. This restaurant is a prime example of service and attitude done right, with an atmosphere that makes you want to come back just for the good chat and the smiles. One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long long time and I can't recommend it enough. If you're in the area, do yourself the favour and stay for the evening. You will not leave disappointed!!

This place hosted the company party where I work, and I liked it. The location was great, and the menu, which included a corvina starter and a seabass main course, was excellent. I enjoyed the presentation and portion sizes. The staff was very attentive and conveyed great energy! I will return with my family in the summer to try other dishes.

Delicious burrata as a starter, and the bread was also super crispy, as if the baker just took it out of the oven. Beautiful decor, pleasant service and they take dietary requirements into account.

Christmas dinner at Baut was a chef’s menu, 5 courses. Most were pretty good, one we didn’t like at all and we have different tastes. Service is friendly and accommodating but very slow.

Honestly, very VERY tasty food. But portion sizes are LAUGHABLY small, it's just a plain 'screw you' to your customers serving this size.. so much so that it ruined my entire experience.. had to go to a snackbar afterwards. Their main course wouldn't even feed a kid. And that's for 21 euros!!!!

Although the dishes were of exceptional quality, they were small and very expensive. We made a reservation with a bigger group and they charged us for two people that cancelled a day before (their policy is 72 hours in advance), which I think is unreasonable.

What a place! The food was amazing. I felt like I was on an episode of Masterchef. The service was also spot on, each course described by a very friendly waiting staff.

Good dishes, romantic/intimate atmosphere perfect for a date or a couple. Portions a bit small but that’s fine dining so it’s normal I think. Am not crazy about it but was a good dinner.

This place is a hidden gem! The food is absolutely fantastic, and the service is top-notch. We stumbled upon this place for an event and ended up having one of the best spare ribs I’ve ever had. The taco was also super delicious. What’s even cooler is that they have an open kitchen right next to the guests’ table, so you can literally chat with the chefs and watch them prepare your food. The cocktail bar is also a highlight, and the design is super kitschy and cool.

We made a reservation to have dinner and celebrate our engagement here. The arrival was great, thanks to the waitresses. They even gave us a free champagne glass. The food was good, but they threw all their good work out the window when we tried to order drinks after dinner. We had to ask for our order to be taken after waiting for more than 15 minutes. After another while, seeing that our cocktails still hadn't arrived, we had to insist again, only to be told that there were many cocktail orders at that moment (the restaurant was almost empty at that time). However, the bartender was flirting and laughing with some girls and doing hand tricks with another colleague. We ended up canceling our cocktail order and asking for the bill. What a way to ruin the service and tarnish the good image they had created until then.

Had a delicious meal here on Friday evening. We initially had a 4-course chef's menu, but because we liked it so much we asked for a 5th course. Super tasty food! Beautiful original dishes that were very tasty. Enjoy sitting at the table for 3 hours, perhaps less suitable for a quick bite. Staff also top, nice ambiance, just normal crowd.

A very nice place to drink, the cocktails are really good, the selection of wines is also good, the food is good and refined but I think they are stronger on the drinking side, let's say that as Italians you can't fully promote their cuisine votes. It's a great place for an aperitif.

What a wonderful experience! Robin was our host and waiter and let me tell you he is the person who understands hospitality and the person who can turn your amazing night into a spectacular one! Pavlos created a wonderful cocktail for my girlfriend, and gave me a great whisky recommendation! The dishes were amazing we definitely recommend the seabass and the duck!! Tasting menu 3 courses €45, good, no problem, the problem comes when you DON'T want dessert, you DON'T want 4 tasting dishes, you only want 3 dishes and on the menu its price is €45... well, nothing if you want dessert €6 more and if you don't want it, also €6 more and they tell you it's a penalty for NOT wanting dessert, amazing.!!! In my life I have been scammed in this way, I am going to charge you a dessert supplement whether you eat it or not.
