Benji’s in Chassébuurt

One of my favorite places in Amsterdam 🤍 We came here for breakfast and everything was incredibly delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful and cozy, with lots of greenery and a very relaxed vibe. It’s the kind of place where you just want to sit longer, enjoy your coffee and forget about time. Definitely a place I would come back to again.

The staff often forget your order, or it takes an incredibly long time before you receive your food or drinks, or before they even come to take your order. It is also really disappointing that the loaded fries with rendang are gone from the menu at Benji's. Now I basically don't need to go there anymore... It is a nice place to sit, though, but the service really needs to be much better; judging by what I've read, several people agree with that.

Food tastes good, atmosphere is fine, service leaves something to be desired; nice weather, no one inside, terrace not completely full, and yet it took a while before the waitstaff arrived. But, the food really does taste very good!!

Very tasty, large portions, delicious coffee.

We visited Benji for brunch on a beautiful sunny day and had the chance to sit outside, which made for a lovely atmosphere. The food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling too heavy. perfect for brunch. The only downside was the service. Our drinks arrived well after our food, and the truffle mayo we ordered never came until we eventually had to get it ourselves. While the staff were friendly, the delays took away from an otherwise enjoyable experience. Overall, it’s a great spot with delicious food and a fantastic outdoor setting, but the service could definitely be more attentive.

The Bali Cheese steak was great. Did have to wait a bit for the food though (about an hour).

We stayed for five days at a nearby hotel and started each day with brunch. We were able to try a good portion of the menu, which is definitely worth it. Be sure to try the burrito and the Eggstraorinary; you won't be disappointed. The coffee and ginger tea are also very good. I understand the negative comments about the speed of the service, but you don't want to eat your brunch in a rush, so the relaxed atmosphere of the staff and the place was perfect. Note that children are welcome. Thank you to the team for the excellent cooking.

We went there for brunch with my partner. We went back the following days! Healthy, generous portions, and very tasty food. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed in a cozy setting. You can even bring your laptop for a laid-back start to the day.

We had breakfast here. I really enjoyed the avocado bread and the iced latte with oat milk. However, the café has very limited vegan options when it comes to food, so I might not return again unless the menu is expanded. Lovely location, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. :-)

that eggstraordinary was absolute fire. literally the highlight of my weekend. the flavor combo was so perfectly balanced it low-key made me want to drop a quick poem about it.

The staff was friendly, but we had to wait quite a long time before someone came to take our order. It also took a while after that before the food was served. Fortunately, the sandwiches made up for a lot. They were tasty, fresh, and generously filled.

Nice place with a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered the scrambled eggs on bread and the teriyaki salmon on bread. The food was nice and the overall experience was enjoyable.

I ordered granola and egg scramble, and they were both delicious. Shimina is very friendly and their service is extremely professional.

The French toast was very tasty. I found the scrambled egg on a slice of bread too expensive (€9) and uninspiring. Considering the Parmesan cheese on the scrambled eggs cost an extra €2.20, there was hardly any. I appreciated the labeling on the menu for each dish as vegan, vegetarian, halal, etc. The coffee was okay. The view of the water was nice, but not worth a second visit.

Refused because we have a child... The restaurant was empty and we were told there were no seats available, while two young women behind us walked in without any problem, then two more... Stand by your decision to select your customers; you have the right to do so. Were you afraid my two-year-old son would bite you? :)

Our number one place for brunches! We live in the area and go there very often :) my fave is avocado toast with bacon ❤️

I had super yummy breakfast there. This spot was located next to my accommodation so it was really convenient. I was welcomed by very nice ladies and i got a table near the window. Service was fast and in a few minutes i was enjoying a tasty coffee with a vegan meal. My score is definitely 10 from 10 cause it was very pleasant experience. From my perspective the price is affordable here. Good value for money. I recommend

The location is good, near the channel, lots of space inside and a nice terrace. Too many fake plants, it would be nice to have some real nature inside. But in general, I enjoyed it, definitely will be coming back 🫶🏻

Amazing food and service, the staff was lovely and so attent!!

I arrived early so service was fast, everyone was kind and welcoming. Portions are pretty big so I’d suggest to only order 1 thing, I got the yogurt bowl (delicious) and a side of banana bread that was bigger than I expected so left very full and happy ☺️

It's a cute place to grab brunch. Food is pretty good but not anything to write home about. We had a breakfast burrito and chicken katsu.

Terrible service; they took almost an hour to take our order (while people who arrived much later were served before our order was even taken). The food was okay, but nothing special. I don't recommend it.

If you want something just a little different for a change, but are still guaranteed a delicious brunch or lunch – then you have to go to Benji’s (West). Familiar lunch classics, yet just that little bit different, a fun twist, more unique creations and flavors. Tip? 🍣 Salmon and avocado sandwich 🥑 teriyaki, beautiful. Highly recommended!

Tasty brunch, consistent quality. The only downside is that on weekends you often have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for your food. We wanted to order more, but you don't do that because it takes so long.

The food is excellent! We had brunch there almost every morning during our stay. It was fantastic! The smoothies are also perfect! The waitresses are always very welcoming and attentive. And the water is free! Which is worth mentioning in Amsterdam where it's usually €10 per liter in restaurants...

Very friendly service! A nice place to have breakfast with the family and a perfect way to kick off the school holidays last weekend!! The breakfast was very tasty and the matcha was amazing. Next time I'm in Amsterdam, I will definitely be back🤩

Fantastic brunch! The place was lovely and the staff very friendly. The coffee and matcha were excellent, as was the food, especially the eggstraordinary, which, as the name suggests, was extraordinary. The only slight downside is the high prices (€40 for what you see in the photo), but that's the case for all brunches, whether in Amsterdam or elsewhere.

Went in on a Sunday morning. No reservation required. I had the smashed avocado with eggs & Parmesan . It was quiet, service was good and the food was impeccable. 10/10.

The service is below acceptable. The staff is rude and unprofessional. No one cares. We were not sitted for 30 min when the had 8 empty tables - ridiculous.

Front of the house employees at Benji’s never heard of a smile on a face. They had some issues with the system, but never in the 35 minutes of us waiting they mentioned it or apologized. Instead they were very dismissive and seemed genuinely frustrated about the fact that we wanted to have brunch there. The manager acted passive aggressive although she had to apologize for the employees twice. The waiters were truly unfriendly, unpleasant and incapable of any kind of exchange except for hostile look.

Girls are great, all staff super friendly, place is cosy and comfy but sadly food is a disappointment. No taste whatsoever. Even coffee was more milk than coffee so I can't recommend this place. Sorry

Truly terrible experience. Perhaps if the cooks had spent more time cooking and less time flirting they could have gotten food to us that wasn’t overcooked. Perhaps it even would have arrived at the same time, or under 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for our food, even though it was a very simple meal that could easily have been prepared in advance. The wait was completely disproportionate to the effort involved in making the dish. Overall, this significantly detracted from our visit. It's a shame, as one would expect much more.

Amazing place with a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere! The staff were incredibly friendly and the service was great. The food and coffee were top-notch! We tried the 'EGGSTRAORDINARY' bun without bacon, it was absolutely delicious, and the brioche bun was incredibly soft. We also had the Smashed Avocado Toast with parmesan, which was so fresh and tasty! Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The service was way too slow. Took them 2 hours to seat us (3 people), serve us drinks and food. Knowing it was 3 regular coffees, 1 smoothie. And 3 egg based dish… extremely disappointing attitude from the staff after we complained about the long wait, no apologies nor discounts. This place should take way less walk-ins clients or work with a reservation only system. This was my 3rd time there, and while the food used to be good, I now find the quality of the food not spectacular, and will never come back. Shame for such a beautiful location. Good luck guys

What should have been an enjoyable breakfast turned into a deeply frustrating and disappointing visit due to a complete failure in customer service and floor management. Upon arrival we waited 30 minutes simply to be seated, followed by a further 60 minutes for basic breakfast dishes to arrive — 90 minutes in total for food that did not justify the wait in any way. Throughout this entire time not a single member of staff or management approached our table to acknowledge the delay, offer an explanation or extend even a basic apology. That level of indifference to the customer experience is simply not acceptable. It was evident that the floor was poorly managed from the moment we arrived. Despite being clearly overwhelmed and unable to cope with existing customers, staff continued to seat new arrivals — adding to the chaos rather than managing it. This is a fundamental failure of management responsibility. A simple acknowledgement, an apology or even a basic update on the wait would have gone a long way. Instead customers were left feeling invisible and undervalued. If this establishment has ambitions to expand to new locations, these operational and customer service failures must be addressed first. Scaling a broken model only amplifies its flaws. Overpriced stupid mix of walk in system and selective bookings. This was not a one off bad day — it was a systemic failure of basic hospitality standards.

We waited 90 minutes in total — 30 to be seated and 60 for food — for simple breakfast dishes that were far from exceptional. The staff were completely detached; despite the obvious chaos, there was no guidance from management and zero apology for the wait. They continued to usher customers in despite having no capacity to serve them. We noticed they are looking to expand to other locations, which is an ambitious goal — however if they carry this walk-in only concept without addressing their operational fundamentals, they risk repeating this experience at scale. A reservation system, better floor management and basic customer communication would go a long way. This is "trendy" marketing at its worst — all style, no substance. The concept has potential but execution needs serious work before expansion becomes a viable option. 1/10.

Delicious, simply delicious! I came here for brunch with some friends and everything was perfect, from the service to the food, we were not disappointed. There are sweet and savoury options and many different beverages. There are also vegetarian options available, I could not recommend this place enough!

Waiter was nice, food was not bad! Prices were average however it took about 30 minutes to receive our food and the restaurant was not even full. Other than that place is good.

Creative menu, always have fun options, and very tasty

It is a nice place with ok food, but it is super overpriced. Smoothie for 9.5 euros and scrambled eggs on toast for 16 is quite exaggetate, even for Amsterdam. It is always cold and the service is just ok. For these prices, I would expect something exceptional.

Really good food. I had the eggstraordinary which was close to perfection with my only gripe being that the brioche bun could have been a bit more fresh but that’s not saying that it wasn’t good. The french toast pieces were light but still full of flavour. You can tell that this toast was not drowned in an egg bath. Solid 9/10

I WAS a huge Benji's Fan until today! I sometimes pass by since I live in the West neighbourhood and usually take an iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with coconut milk to go. Usually I paid around 7,30 €, which is already pricy but today you charged 8,30€!?WHY? I can understand that to go is a bit higher but 8,30€? This was the last time I come to Benji's and I used to eat in every of your beautiful locations...

I heard good things about Benji’s and heard it was a good brunch place, walking in I had high hope. It was busy, and we were asked to join the waiting list, meanwhile we asked if we could sit at the bar and look at the menu. We were told we couldn’t order until we had a table. With less than 1.5 hours of closing we were keen to be seated and order. The hostess was a bit slow as despite a few tables being released it took a bit of time for us to be seated, however another host kindly said we could order before getting the table so that helped alleviate some time pressure. The food was okay, wasn’t piping hot, the Parmesan and truffle fries weren’t hot, a bit disappointing. Yet to find a quality brunch place in Oud-West. Worth a try but not likely to go back.

Loved the atmosphere and my coffee - the service was a bit slow but to be expected at brunch. Looking forward to trying more on the menu!

We went to Benji’s for brunch and it was a great choice. The food is amazing and prepared with care. We tried the eggstraordinary and the smoked salmon bun, both were great. There’s a lot of “add-on” options but, unfortunately, not the option of changing the items without paying (for example, I wanted to take the bacon out and add truffle mushrooms instead. Even though the price was the same, I would still have to pay the mushrooms as an add-on). We also tried the truffle potatoes and the pistachio roll and both were delicious. The space is lovely, full of plans and natural light. The employees seemed a bit lost in space but were kind and ready to help. Thank you for the experience!

Service was very disappointing. Our server seemed uninterested, slow, and even forgot an item. Mistakes happen, but this time it really missed the mark. The food was tasty but not hot, which was a shame. The kitchen staff seemed friendly, and the girl cleaning up our drinks was lovely. Overall, good food but poor service, and that can really make or break a place.

Great place for brunch and lunch. They serve brunch till 4pm. We had Eggstraordinary (scrambled egg on bun) and mushroom truffle scrambled egg. Both were good and highly recommended. Staff are very friendly, and service can be slightly faster!

10/10, and I'm a picky eater. I usually find crispy chicken sandwiches disappointing because they often have dry buns. I asked for extra sauce: no more! Delicious beyond expectations!

Benji's is a great place for brunch in Amsterdam! The place is modern, bright, and pleasant, perfect for starting the day off right. The service is fast and friendly, even when the restaurant is full. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable for the quality offered. This is definitely a must-try if you enjoy hearty and indulgent brunches.

The food was good, but the service was terrible. Despite it being quiet, we received very little help, and I had to go to the bar myself to order. When you tell someone something isn't good, you get a rude response. Such a shame!

Super cool place with delicious brunch options! They are laptop friendly and have specific quite areas where you can work and eat The stuff is friendly and nice, we stayed there until the closing time. The prices are bit high but we stayed there for 3 hours

For a well-filled açaí bowl, Benji’s is not the place to go. I was honestly very disappointed. For €17 you expect a well-filled, tasty bowl, but that was not the case at all. The açaí base was watery, the amount of granola was minimal and although the menu said it would contain banana, I didn’t get any banana. There were a few slices of strawberry on top, and that was it. Really poor for that price. Maybe other dishes on the menu are better, I don’t rule that out, but the açaí bowl is really not a success in my opinion. The price-quality ratio is simply zero.

We went to their Oud West branch for lunch. Beautiful setting, you can sit inside and on the terrace. Their menu offers many delish dishes. Tried the Bali cheese steak, which was a true flavor bomb, higly recommended. Service was on point. Would visit again.

This all day brunch place is one of my favorites in Amsterdam! They have three locations and each location feels like a cozy green oasis, blending concrete, marble, and lots of plants—creating an industrial yet tropical vibe :) We went to the one in West where they have a lovely terrace outside next to the canal. They offer a variety of dishes: vegan, vegetarian, gluten‑friendly options, you name it! They have bowls, wraps, buns, bao, and acai and rainbow salads. And all so tasteful! They also have very nice coffee and cocktails. The staff is always very friendly when we come and the service is quite fast as well. I also would say that the prices are fair for what you get.

The staff was very kind, welcoming and caring. Located near the canal in a peaceful neighborhood, they have outside tables to catch some sun. The menu is not super broad, but the chicken Katsu was delicious.

Stood waiting for 5 minutes for someone to help us, no hello, no eye contact. Walked by with coffee to serve it at a table & didn't look at us. A "Hi, I will come back to you/ will help you if I bring this coffee" would have been nice. 0 service.

Hands down the best place for breakfast, the avocado salmon bread is incredible, really fresh stuff and the staff is super polite aswell. The amount of food was quite alot, well priced!

We had the truffle mushroom eggs and the English scone. Both were delicious. We paired it with a strawberry iced matcha and a cappuccino.
