Bij Roel in Centrum

This is the best cafe I have found in Groningen. The coffee is consistently very good, the milk texture perfect, and the interior design is attractive and characterful. The atmosphere is very relaxed - you can have coffee with friends, go for a date, or study. The baristas are helpful and efficient. The prices are also reasonable.

Really wonderful atmosphere and barista/owner. Also one of the only places in the city you can order a flat white or americano—and they are fantastic!

A very standard café with a coffee focused menu. The kwarktaart was good and the best served. It had a creamy consistency with a nice spiced-biscuit crust, good cinnamon flavor, and chocolate flakes on top. The worteltaart (carrot cake) was ok, being too dry and lacking carrot flavor, but the icing improved it. The matcha was basically milk but at least had a slight matcha taste. The dirty chai latte was more like weak coffee with a spiced flavor. Go for the inviting atmosphere, cozy interior, and kwarktaart.

Tastiest coffee in Groningen! The homemade carrot cake & monchou are also delicious. Definitely recommended to go.

The quality has been kind of uneven. The first time we went the drinks we ordered were great, but the next time they didn’t taste the same (and actually not that great unfortunately). Maybe it was just a one-time-thing, but still a shame.

Friendly coffee shop with tasty drinks (also fresh from Fritz Limo, for example), various pastries (now a choice of 4, delicious carrot cake!!) and sandwiches and soup as lunch options. Sympathetic owner.

Had a barista workshop last Thursday. It was super fun and very educational. While making coffee we were also treated to cake. Highly recommended is the MonChou that Roel makes himself 😋

Place is cramped and sphere isn't nice. Coffee is over priced. I'd give the coffee itself a 4/5, but definitely not the worth the price for the amount you get.

Sat outside where the wait for service was very long. Coffee is tasty, but not special. Limited lunch menu, tent for an easy bite. Sandwich tasted great, price-quality okay. Waited a long time for the food even though there was no crowds. It looked like a nice tent, shame about the experience…

You can also come to Roel if you don't have a bad face. A nice home atmosphere, it really feels like you are sitting in someone's living room. The coffee is delicious, as is the chocolate milk. Roel is not averse to a good conversation about art, and he also does painting himself. I enjoy coming to Roel's and definitely recommend visiting!

Had a very fun and educational barista workshop! Friendly owner who talks with passion. Relaxed atmosphere and very interactive. Now practice frothing milk at home :) Workshop is highly recommended

Super nice place with friendly owner, tasty cakes, good coffee and nice atmosphere. Very nice place to chat and play a game. Carrot cake highly recommended. The milk is also well frothed, delicious! Decaf and other milks are available. Tip: it would be nice to drop by and ask if we would like anything else.

Prima koffie en heerlijke worteltaart! Koffie is echt van hoge kwaliteit. Wel een beetje vreemd dat we Fanta kregen met de houdbaarheidsdatum van vorig jaar. Toen we het kenbaar maakten was de reactie: "Ohw, dat is vreemd want ik ben ook een jaar geleden begonnen." Maargoed, kan een keer gebeuren, misschien was het een verdwaald flesje. Ook een beetje jammer was dat de croissants nog niet afgebakken waren. Al met al prima koffie, de rest was wat teleurstellend.

We enjoyed a lovely croissant with our coffee and tea. Super friendly staff. We look forward to visiting again when we're next in Groningen.

Amazing place, friendly owner and good coffee ( and good chess player )

Roel is een geweldig vriendelijke gastheer, serveert lekkere koffie, gebrand naar eigen recept. Altijd een lekker sfeertje in deze huiskamer, en een van de weinige die doordeweeks al om 07:30 open is. Ook Roel’s soepen zijn lekker voor de lunch! Aanrader.
