Delicious food at an affordable price

This is truly an institution in the city where I have been coming regularly for at least 25 years, and the food is consistently good. The service is quick and there is a wide selection. The Massaman curry is our favorite!

I ordered paneng kai with fried rice and the thai country chicken wings. The total was 41 euro. Crazy expensive.. the paneng cury was watery and no taste and no white rice came with it so only the fried rice wich we paid for. And the chicken wings were only 3 pieces for 9,50 euro and the wings taste like it was made 2 days ago and it tasted like nothing.. i feel scammed by these new owners this is not thai food at all, such a great loss bc it used to be one of the best thai in amsterdam but now its just a tourist trap

We ate at Bird restaurant last week. It was terrible. My dish number 50 was tasteless and contained half a basil plant. Yes, in one piece. The rice was completely dried out at the top of the container. We returned almost the entire dish of my wife. One thing is clear: the quality is very poor, and apparently, the kitchen staff have no interest in putting anything nice on the table. A shame and a waste of money.

A fantastic Thai restaurant that we always love to go to! If you go during peak hours, you might have to wait in line for a while, but rest assured, you'll more than repay every minute you wait with the delicious food you'll eat inside. The food is incredibly tasty, the service is very fast, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. It's a wonderful place where you can enjoy your meal and have a great time; I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone!

Service is good but the food is mediocre. Noodles were uninspired and the shrimps tasteless and watery. This restaurant has gone downhill, I am sorry to say.

Very casual, hole in the wall place. Food is authentic Thai (grandma is cooking in the kitchen). But don’t expect great service or atmosphere as more of a takeaway place.

Used to be great when the previous owner was there. Now the food has zero Thai ingredients, no Thai aubergines, black pepper, and all the rest, while still charging a premium price. Avoid at all costs. Tourist trap.

Service is terrible. Food is great. They are NOT em very well educated and not in great mood at all. And they DO NOT accept credit card or wise. Which is a no go for a restaurant.

Instead of tom yum soup, they brought water with paste that wasn't even stirred and which was impossible to eat, the quality is very poor!

Busy Thai restaurant in the Chinatown area. We had the Phuket menu and a massaman kai. The food was very tasty, but paying were a bit confusing. We had to go downstairs and search for the place to pay.

Not superrrrr impressed with the food (as a Thai) because i feel like it’s not as authentic and ofc i understand that in a foreign country, you might have to adjust the dish a lil but the plate is quite far from being authentic. The green curry taste pretty ok and the beef salad but thai basil and drunken noodles were not it for me. Great service tho but food was a wee bit disappointing. Still flavorful but just not authentic.

Unassuming from the outside, but nice inside with excellent service. The food is really good! Often in Amsterdam you only find deep-fried food, and we were craving something fresh. This was exactly what we were looking for! But be warned, it's spicy...

Authentic Thai cuisine of a very high standard. Friendly service.

This Thai restaurant is bustling with customers even before 6 pm on weekday evenings. The decor and ambiance are very inviting, making for a comfortable dining experience. The dishes we ordered were all delicious, but the portions were rather small. For the three of us guys, the portions were a little insufficient, as the dishes are very good with rice; you could easily feel full after eating a bit more. The staff were friendly and attentive. This seems to be a popular local spot; it was already full when we left. If you're ever traveling to Amsterdam, this is a great dining option!

Authentic Thai food! Short wait time.

Had dinner here before, food was not great, quite expensive for what you got. The staff would push you to leave, did not feel relaxed having dinner here. There are better options in Amsterdam than this. We loved their thai milk tea though, wanted to go there again for just the milk tea - but was told we had to order food, otherwise only could do takeaway or keep the table & finish the drinks within 15 mins. Yes, again rush rush rush!!

I guess a 4.2 rating in Amsterdam means something different than it does back home. This place hits the quadfecta of: crappy food, service, vibe, and (super) crappy service. Look elsewhere and aim for a rating in the high 4's.

This place is rated "Top Bad"! Absolutely awful!!! The Tom Yum soup looked and tasted like swill; after one sip, I thought the wrong dish had been served. The stir-fried rice noodles were cloyingly sweet and incredibly sticky—terrible. The chicken curry was generally bad; the chicken was dry and tough, like an old hen from the Qing Dynasty. My friend and I were starving, and we couldn't finish it. If you're looking for a terrible experience, this is the place for you.

Update May 2026: Went to eat here again after a few years. Actually wanted the mango sticky rice, but unfortunately it wasn't in stock. More often than not... We waited an hour for a papaya salad and a red curry. After that, we ordered a green curry. Unfortunately, there was a hair in it. We were given another one afterwards, but this one seemed artificial. The curry was watery and less full of flavor. We received a 10% discount on the bill. There was no apology. I think they have enough customers. The red curry was tasty and so was the salad. We went here for lunch. I had to call the lady because she didn't see us anymore? The soup was tasty, but the pansit didn't taste fresh... Next to us, 2 ladies wanted to have their food packed up to take away... the lady says that a container is just €1... Because she had taken 3 containers, they got a discount and it ended up being an extra €2... Rip-off in my opinion!

The food was bad; the fried rice was swimming in oil and the vegetables were cut too large and too raw. Also, when paying the bill, I was asked if a tip should be added, which is very rude to ask for a tip. I will never come here again and will spread the word on social media as well.

Picture this: an efficient, kind atmosphere. Smell is bloody unreal. You sit down, have some banter. You think the magic stops there but you're wrong. Food is out fresh and hot and in good time. You think it can't get better than this, but it can. The food is flipping marvellous. Nose is running but I don't care. Literally got revived in a way not unlike Jesus by the green chicken curry. They don't do tap water though

Beyond the excellent meal, the restaurant boasts a fantastic atmosphere. My only small note is regarding the service; while the staff was very polite and welcoming, the service was just a bit slow during peak hours. It did not ruin the evening by any means, but there is a slight room for improvement in terms of speed. Overall, the incredible food and lovely environment make this place highly recommended, and I will definitely be coming back for more!

Inside, it's a bit cramped, but that's a small price to pay, because you come here specifically for this exceptional food.

The best chicken massaman I have ever eaten- and I have eaten many all over the world. The sharing starter was also the best I’ve ever had. I did have to ask for drinks twice but I could see they were busy so that’s fair enough. I would definitely recommend and return here.

Have a wonderful journey into Thai cuisine! The portions were more than generous, and the price was excellent too—it was well worth it. We went on a whim; it might not look like much, but you'll find happiness there. We ordered the beef with Thai basil and the beef in oyster sauce—very flavorful, perhaps a little oily, but still delicious.

One of the most delicious Thai restaurants I have visited in the Netherlands. Every time I come here, I feel so welcomed. The staff are always kind, respectful, and very well organized, and the atmosphere truly makes you feel a little closer to Thailand. I especially want to compliment the chefs and the whole team for the care and quality they put into everything. A tourist restaurant, very dark inside, it felt like it was the middle of the night. Very noisy. Service is quick, but prices are high. However, the portions are generous.

Taiwanese palate representative 🙋🏻‍♀️ dislikes this taste (I prefer Mandalay) Gemini recommended Pad Thai, which was on the sweeter, wetter side, and had a sweet and spicy milk sauce flavor (?). The beef was tough and didn't taste like beef at all. The #44 spicy option ordered by a passerby was also on the sweeter side. The spring rolls were thin and had little filling. The three dishes cost 43.5 euros. We left before finishing them all. The owner was very nice though. BTW, they only accept Euros and don't accept credit cards.

Really delicious variety of Thai dishes and the portions are quite big. I absolutely enjoyed the somtam salad, spicy, sour, with fresh seafood. Service was quintessential Thai hospitality. The place itself is quite big for Amsterdam standard, but always crowded especially during dinner time.

Not authentic Thai. The Pad Thai, in particular, was disappointingly tasteless. Massaman was fine but unbalanced; mainly sweet.

We were told this was the best Thai restaurant around our hotel. It was a Saturday evening and we made our way over. We had to wait for half an hour to get a table. The bartender was this really tall Dutch guy who was very sweet and took our order so we could have a drink while we waited in line to get the table. Once seated, we had this really disinterested waitress taking our order. We wanted something vegetarian and she had no recommendations. The food was very warm with no flavor and it was very disappointing to see the least. Although I have to see the atmosphere was very nice and the decor was very pretty.

Ordered from Bird because I head good stories: Never again. Ordered my food at 19:35, and arrived it at 22:38. That's a 3 HOUR wait. Just insane. The food arrived cold, and it's a shame cause the curry was pretty good. The ribs were not.

Amazing, authentic, tasty Thai food!

Officially my favourite Thai restaurant in Amsterdam, Bird Thais provides excellent food at reasonable prices. The staff are both friendly and accommodating, and this restaurant provides excellent service even on very busy evenings. The rear tables are adjacent to canal-view windows, and I will repeat again the fact the food is excellent. Please support this absolutely lovely restaurant and the good people who operate it!

The place is not very big, so we had to wait about 10 minutes before being seated but the food was good. We started with Thai spring rolls, which were perfectly crispy and a great appetizer. The Tom Ka Koeng (Thai coconut soup with shrimp) was delicious — creamy and slightly sweet without being spicy. For the main dishes, we had Moe Priou Waan (pork in sweet and sour sauce), which was very well balanced, and fried rice with chicken, simple but very tasty. We also ordered Som Tam (spicy papaya salad), which had exactly the right level of spiciness and was very fresh.

Well the restaurant is overall ok but had 2 huge downsides for me. First is that they have a huge toilet problem, they were on renevation so you had to use a half finished toiled :D But more importantly, after making us wait for 45 minutes, they served a cold plate. Interestingly only the rice was hot. Idk what was the problem but the main dish was cold. Then when I told this they just offered a take away discount :D So overall maybe they are not a bad restaurant but they have some things to fix..

Do Not Eat Here! My wife is Thai. Worst Thai food I’ve ever had. Ordered Nam Tok (grilled beef salad) what I got was a stew of beef that was tough and tasted precooked, like it came out of a pot that had been sitting on the stove for a period of time. Got the Starter Sampler, none of the Starters were fresh either. I seriously doubt any locals eat here. I’ve eaten at many Thai restaurants around the world, I rate this one at the bottom. Few days later we went to try Thai restaurant across from this one. They were not opening till later. The nice woman there we spoke to took us around the corner to a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant off the beaten path. Best Thai food we've had in a long time.
