What would you eat first in Amsterdam 🇳🇱? I have been to Amsterdam 5 or 6 times, I think. And I have a tradition: the first thing I eat is shawarma... 😅 Typical, right? 😇 This is not something I exactly chose. But I have a friend from Amsterdam 🇳🇱 whose family is from Morocco 🇲🇦 and, every time I arrive in Amsterdam, he either cooks shawarma for me or takes me out to have shawarma... 😅 I love shawarma anyway so that's fine for me. 😋 This time, he took us to Birtat restaurant, a 🇹🇷 Turkish restaurant that he apparently knows very well and, most of all, that is open quite late, which was key that night cause our train 🚄 from Paris 🇫🇷 was delayed... a lot! 🤬 We ordered a mix platter that had shawarma, koftes, fries, rice, salad and bread, plus some tapas. Everything was good and there was too much food so we couldn't finish. We paid €50 for 3 (including soft drinks and no desserts), which would be expensive for this kind of food in Barcelona 🇪🇸, but maybe not much so in Amsterdam 🇳🇱... We were served in a timely manner and I can't really complain about the service, but we were lucky we were with a local cause English 🇬🇧 isn't useful there (that's probably the only place in the whole country where nothing is written in English nor anybody talks to you in English... 😅). The place is not cozy at all and that's probably the worst part of this venue. You can't expect anything fancy, but you can have a good meal, late at night (for the Netherlands!), and that's what mattered that night. 🤝 . . . Quality & taste: 9/10 Quantities: 10/10 Atmosphere: 3/10 Originality: 6/10 Ratio price / quality: 7/10 Service: 7/10 How I felt afterwards: 8/10

I paid 15 euros for a so-called turbo sandwich! The bottom and sides were just dough. I'm sure I'm not the only one. If I just want bread, I'll go to the bakery. By the way, the shawarma is delicious, nothing wrong with it. But please keep those flashy practices to yourself.

Birtat used to be the place to go for authentic Turkish food. But since it went to their heads during the boom, the prices have gone up, and the food is truly inedible. It's not fresh; everything tastes like it's been microwaved. Turkish rice is just plain rice, not recommended. They don't offer regular drinks anymore; everything is absolutely undrinkable. It's a shame. It used to be a successful restaurant, but unfortunately, when things are going well, the quality drops, and you end up paying more. The owner doesn't care, the staff is okay. We won't be back; it's not worth the money.

THE BEST SPOT! Turkish food is now my favorite came from England to Amsterdam and found this absolute amazing spot we had dinner lamb chops some sliced lamb rice fries salad the dips are amazing. They give you bread before your food comes out soft bread which fills you up before the food comes but no complaints from me! pricing absolutely amazing food absolutely amazing. I went back the next morning for breakfast. They made me scrambled eggs which were the best scrambled eggs I ever had and some Crockett thing which had laminate but it was amazing.

Very nice restaurant to stop by for authentic Turkish dishes, soups and desserts at even late hours. Their shawarma worths a try and soups are tasty. Don't miss out on Sutlac (a traditional dessert made with milk). Service is quick, prices are reasonable.

I once ordered two kebab sandwiches, got home, and what do I see? One of the sandwiches is a shawarma sandwich. I ordered one, and it was really dirty. They should hire a Bulgarian girl by the toilet so she can clean it.

One thing I can't understand: I have to be honest, I've seen better Turkish food in Amsterdam. It's not very spacious, and sometimes you have to wait for a table. But I've never seen this place empty. It's always crowded, even more so than McDonald's. It's always more crowded than the Turkish restaurants around here. Interesting.

We have been going to Birtat restaurant Amsterdam once or twice a year for years. I was very satisfied with the food until last year. Unfortunately I can't say this time. Grilled meat and vegetables soup is not as tasty as compared to other years. Service staff is not or not very customer friendly and serves as if I don't feel like it. Bread was gone and when I asked for bread it unfortunately didn't come for a long time and the 2nd time I asked for other staff then it only came. For our child they didn't bring a spoon or fork to eat. So unfortunately we are not that satisfied this time. I hope that these problems will not be solved as quickly and as long as possible. Otherwise I think that's a shame.

Hadn't been here for a while. It felt like coming home again. The mercimek and shakshuka were delicious 👏 and tasted like old times. Consistent quality. To finish, a delicious Kunefe.

Always delicious food at birtat

I have picked up food from this restaurant several times, but unfortunately my order is almost never correct when I get home. Whenever I contacted them, it was always claimed that I had ordered something else. I think that's a shame, especially because I used to order here often. Unfortunately I have to conclude that I can no longer recommend this place. You will be deceived again and again!

Local authentic place Not great with English but they have menu in English. The food was superfresh and delicious, especially lamb.

It was the best kelle paca soup I have ever eaten in the Netherlands. There are many types of food and desserts. There is also tea offered after the meal. It is very nice that they are open until late. It is a restaurant that can be visited regularly. It is highly recommended.

I miss old Birtat. Chicken soup barely has any chicken in it anymore. In the past, items were packed well when taking them away. Furthermore, there was also a spill on foil and it was simply wrapped up

We entered by mistake on the way to another place, but it is recommended. We ate savarna with bread, it is like roasted meat with bread, but they serve very delicious tea. The prices are reasonable, it is recommended.

For me, it is definitely at the top compared to other fancier Turkish eateries in Amsterdam. They do not offer any service there, but they do take orders with high-tech devices. Birtat still offers old-fashioned service, speed and friendliness. And the dishes taste delicious. Nothing but praise. It's not without reason that it's always full here.

When we got tired of thinking about what to eat with our children for several days (winter days), we went to this place after looking at the comments, we ate beans and rice, it was good, thank you, they also served us the tea we missed.

Order a pita shawarma and fries to take away. When I got home, it turned out that the fries were almost liquid, and the pita was not fried properly and tore into 2 pieces. And then also 12.50 questions. They are not very friendly and everyone keeps pushing. Never here again.

Normally always satisfied with Birtat, but recently had to wait 20 minutes for a menu. Then menus were placed closed on the table and we waited another 10 minutes to place an order. Then we called someone and asked if we could order... he had to wait a while. When he took orders from guests who had just arrived, we got up and left. The employee just came to me, told me it was no longer necessary and walked away. He didn't even respond to it. It's a shame that the service has deteriorated so much. The fact that you cannot place an order in 35 minutes while you are waiting at the table... customer friendliness is hard to find! Enough competition and places where this is well arranged, nice food elsewhere!

We got a haircut and a Turkish pizza and it was incredibly disappointing. The kapsalon contained a few pieces of chicken, little cheese, thick tomato slices and the sauce separately in containers. Turkish pizza was mediocre and not well cooked. All together for 17 euros... A lot of money for little quality. Perhaps better to serve Turkish dishes, if that is good, and not to put the kapsalon and Turkish pizza on the menu, if that cannot be made properly.

When we found Birtat during our 3-day trip to Amsterdam, we did not go anywhere else :) It is a nice place for those who want to eat delicious Turkish food. We tried many dishes and were pleased with all of them.

What great value for money: more than a lot of quality and little price! Only now do I understand what a 'payment' is, because that word is related to 'peace', in short, a payment is a form of offering peace, a symbolic gift, because the quality is too high to express in money. After a long time I ate at birtat again, where it used to be a good thing, it has deteriorated very much. adana so tough to eat > we just left it alone. not to be cut or chewed. We were served cold rice, after which we received a separate plate with warmed up rice. staff: I ask for a plaster for my son's finger, the waiter shows me a free table outside. “do you have a bandage” vs “is there a table available?” are two completely different sentences. Nevertheless. so we won't come here anymore.

Fantastic di erse food. Ours had an authentic grilled/bbq taste. We had the grilled chicken en adana kebab. It tasted very fresh and the bread was fresh and tasty too. The interior is simple and dated but it adds to the authentic taste of a turkish diner. Friendly and quick service.
