The food looks okay, but that’s about all there is to say. The meat is dry and burnt; I must have had to do some strength training on my jaws. The fries were soggy, so limp and tasteless; how can you not fry fries properly? The atmosphere in the restaurant is just like a glorified snack bar. I really don't understand how this restaurant can be so busy; I haven't had such bad Turkish food in ages. And on top of that, they charge 22.50 euros for a dish; it’s really not worth it. Too bad, but never again for me!

Shame on you, exploitative business! My cousin and I went and ordered meat-filled bread to a table. My cousin said one would be taken away and the other we would eat at the table. The food is still bearable. But that atmosphere inside and the faces of the people who work there... Grumpy, no hello, no goodbye, no thanks or please... Oh my god.

The food is meager for the price; 45 euros for 8 pieces of pastry, meaning you could buy a kilo of Syrian pastries for 35 euros, enough for 3 people. It would be better.

Food was loaded, very generous amount. It was good, i would come back. They should hire someone who speaks english for the full service though.

The visit on March 19, 2026, was disappointing. This contrasts with how I knew Birtat from previous experiences. Unfortunately, after this experience, I can only advise against visiting Birtat. The only positive point was that, thanks to a reservation, we were able to get a table for four. The quality of the food did not meet expectations. The beyti was overcooked and not fit for serving. Additionally, the waiting time was well over an hour. We arrived at 18:20 and had indicated beforehand that the children's food could be served earlier and the adults after iftar. Despite asking multiple times, we were repeatedly told that it would take "another 2 minutes." This turned out to be incorrect; these were unreliable promises. Communication from the staff was unclear and not transparent. Furthermore, it was noticeable that guests arriving later were served their food earlier. This points to a lack of oversight and management within the service and kitchen. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

THE BEST SPOT! Turkish food is now my favorite came from England to Amsterdam and found this absolute amazing spot we had dinner lamb chops some sliced lamb rice fries salad the dips are amazing. They give you bread before your food comes out soft bread which fills you up before the food comes but no complaints from me! pricing absolutely amazing food absolutely amazing. I went back the next morning for breakfast. They made me scrambled eggs which were the best scrambled eggs I ever had and some Crockett thing which had laminate but it was amazing.

The kofte was really cold and limp, inedible.

The kebabs here aren't the same as the kebabs in France; there's no meat skewer. My sisters ordered shoarma pitas, which were the closest thing to a kebab, but they didn't have any raw vegetables inside. I ordered an Ekmet arasi Adana, which was a skewer of seasoned meat in a pita bread with a little salad and red cabbage. It was good.

Delicious Turkish food for a reasonable price.

A quick update, four years later: still the best Turkish restaurant! While all the others have fallen by the wayside, this one is still standing. Delicious dishes! Family-friendly and deliciously fresh! The food was delicious. The food was neatly sealed, and you get plenty! A kind of wrap and bread came with the dish. I didn't finish it all, but I'll definitely be back.

Had a delicious lamb shawarma dish. The garlic sauce was delicious. Great restaurant.

The service was excellent and fast, and the soup was excellent, but the meat in the stew was very dry, and I think we didn't like it.

The food was good and tasty, and overall the restaurant is fine for a casual meal. However, the service could be improved, as there was some confusion with our order. It’s a standard place where you eat well, but the experience depends a lot on the service.

I ate here last night. I had a beyti, and the meat was so incredibly tough...this isn't what I'm used to. The meat also had a distinct odor. I'm typing this about 12 hours later (in the morning), and I'm still burping up the awful meat flavor. I've had a stomach ache all night. Please, people, forewarned is forearmed. Don't eat here, at least not a beyti. The meat is old and tough. The service was also anything but friendly. Because it was so crowded, combined with the limited seating, it felt like they couldn't wait for you to leave so someone new could be seated. The place was bland, there was no music playing, and above all, the food was terrible. The shawarma was also very dry and tasteless. In short, we won't be returning.

What would you eat first in Amsterdam 🇳🇱? I have been to Amsterdam 5 or 6 times, I think. And I have a tradition: the first thing I eat is shawarma... 😅 Typical, right? 😇 This is not something I exactly chose. But I have a friend from Amsterdam 🇳🇱 whose family is from Morocco 🇲🇦 and, every time I arrive in Amsterdam, he either cooks shawarma for me or takes me out to have shawarma... 😅 I love shawarma anyway so that's fine for me. 😋 This time, he took us to Birtat restaurant, a 🇹🇷 Turkish restaurant that he apparently knows very well and, most of all, that is open quite late, which was key that night cause our train 🚄 from Paris 🇫🇷 was delayed... a lot! 🤬 We ordered a mix platter that had shawarma, koftes, fries, rice, salad and bread, plus some tapas. Everything was good and there was too much food so we couldn't finish. We paid €50 for 3 (including soft drinks and no desserts), which would be expensive for this kind of food in Barcelona 🇪🇸, but maybe not much so in Amsterdam 🇳🇱... We were served in a timely manner and I can't really complain about the service, but we were lucky we were with a local cause English 🇬🇧 isn't useful there (that's probably the only place in the whole country where nothing is written in English nor anybody talks to you in English... 😅). The place is not cozy at all and that's probably the worst part of this venue. You can't expect anything fancy, but you can have a good meal, late at night (for the Netherlands!), and that's what mattered that night. 🤝 . . . I paid 15 euros for a so-called turbo sandwich! The bottom and sides were just dough. I'm sure I'm not the only one. If I just want bread, I'll go to the bakery. By the way, the shawarma is delicious, nothing wrong with it. But please keep those flashy practices to yourself.

Birtat used to be the place to go for authentic Turkish food. But since it went to their heads during the boom, the prices have gone up, and the food is truly inedible. It's not fresh; everything tastes like it's been microwaved. Turkish rice is just plain rice, not recommended. They don't offer regular drinks anymore; everything is absolutely undrinkable. It's a shame. It used to be a successful restaurant, but unfortunately, when things are going well, the quality drops, and you end up paying more. The owner doesn't care, the staff is okay. We won't be back; it's not worth the money.

Very nice restaurant to stop by for authentic Turkish dishes, soups and desserts at even late hours. Their shawarma worths a try and soups are tasty. Don't miss out on Sutlac (a traditional dessert made with milk). Service is quick, prices are reasonable.

I once ordered two kebab sandwiches, got home, and what do I see? One of the sandwiches is a shawarma sandwich. I ordered one, and it was really dirty. They should hire a Bulgarian girl by the toilet so she can clean it.

We have been going to Birtat restaurant Amsterdam once or twice a year for years. I was very satisfied with the food until last year. Unfortunately I can't say this time. Grilled meat and vegetables soup is not as tasty as compared to other years. Service staff is not or not very customer friendly and serves as if I don't feel like it. Bread was gone and when I asked for bread it unfortunately didn't come for a long time and the 2nd time I asked for other staff then it only came. For our child they didn't bring a spoon or fork to eat. So unfortunately we are not that satisfied this time. I hope that these problems will not be solved as quickly and as long as possible. Otherwise I think that's a shame.

I have picked up food from this restaurant several times, but unfortunately my order is almost never correct when I get home. Whenever I contacted them, it was always claimed that I had ordered something else. I think that's a shame, especially because I used to order here often. We entered by mistake on the way to another place, but it is recommended. We ate savarna with bread, it is like roasted meat with bread, but they serve very delicious tea. The prices are reasonable, it is recommended.

For me, it is definitely at the top compared to other fancier Turkish eateries in Amsterdam. They do not offer any service there, but they do take orders with high-tech devices. Birtat still offers old-fashioned service, speed and friendliness. And the dishes taste delicious. Nothing but praise. It's not without reason that it's always full here.

Order a pita shawarma and fries to take away. When I got home, it turned out that the fries were almost liquid, and the pita was not fried properly and tore into 2 pieces. And then also 12.50 questions. They are not very friendly and everyone keeps pushing. Never here again.
