Nice experience in Indonesian food

Delicious rijsttafel. A warm welcome. Nice atmosphere, but unfortunately very noisy. It's hard to hear each other, and I find it a bit too dark in the restaurant. Tip: a visit to the restroom is worth it ;-)

Went there on July 4th. The food was truly disappointing. Who makes this? The store around the corner is 10x better. The price/quality ratio is incredibly skewed. Such a shame.

The place is fancy and the food was very good, but the size of the portions were quite small and we had to wait almost one hour for the food to arrive.

My first rice table ever and it did not disappoint. We had the small rice table, as I had to save some space for the incredible dessert :) The food was presented in all this cute little bowls and every single dish had an unique taste and texture. I loved creating my own little food combinations from all the different dishes. I think the tofu and tempeh dish, was the best tofu I ever had. The preparation was perfect, leaving the tofu with a super soft texture and the amazing flavours from the sauce that melted into it. On top of that the restaurant is incredibly well decorated, with soft ambient lightning and a modern look to it.

Friendly service, the rice table was adjusted to your personal preference. I found the food tasty, but not shocking. We came from far and would not specifically drive here again. A nice place to eat something before going to the cinema, because it is nearby.

Very tasty food, very friendly service. The price was reasonable. It's just a bit more expensive. Plenty of high chairs, but there are also decent chairs for sitting.

Ate so badly at this restaurant, this is definitely not repeating. Fish on the menu was not orderable, dry rice and unappetizing gado gado without cucumber? Waste of my money!

Very atmospheric restaurant with very friendly service. Food is fantastic, delicious Indonesian. If you want to eat vegetarian, the vegetarian rice table is recommended.

Beautiful place definitely worth it

We had the 3 course meal and it was amazing! I especially loved the first appetizer (first picture). I found the beef a little tough but I’ve noticed most of the beef I’ve had is that way, so I won’t take a star off. The flavours are intense but harmonize on your pallet, changing as you masticate. The menu is creative and innovative. If you’re ever in Haarlem, I wouldn’t miss this.

It was a very nice dinner with a large group of colleagues. The food was delicious, if you like Indonesian food.

Yesterday evening we had dinner here after a day in Haarlem. Atmospheric restaurant with a beautiful open kitchen. Because we had eaten late in the afternoon, we opted for various street food snacks, a few starters and a sateh ayam with fried rice. It was all very tasty and beautifully served. Sometimes also surprising in terms of combinations. What we really like is that you can also make a reservation here late and are not looked out when the kitchen is already closed. Great. We will definitely come back here.

Opted for the rice table, both the normal and the vegetarian were on our table. We have a few big eaters, but everyone had enough.

The food was delicious and wait staff attentive. The rijstaffel was perfect for 2. The ambience chill. It was popular but the acoustics were good. Pricing reasonable.

Vaker gegeten. Vooral de voorgerechten om te delen en rijsttafel vallen bij ons in de smaak. Bediening kan efficiënter maar je zit in een leuke omgeving, de drankjes smaken goed en het eten is top dus daar valt mee te leven. Goede plek om terug te komen!

We wanted to experience Indonesian food while in The Netherlands. We chose Bistro Bar Indonesia. We ended up being there on King's Day. The place was empty when we arrived (early at 5:30 pm), but we were greeted warmly and the waitress spoke English and was very helpful. We had the large Rijsttafel. It was wonderfully diverse and tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Ate for the 3rd time and what great service. Eating (rice table) remains a taste sensation with a nice mix of fish and meat or vegetarian.

Two of us ate at the bistro bar Indonesia for the first time this evening. We booked online and paid a deposit of €30, which was later deducted from the final bill. I think that's reasonable, as many people probably book without showing up in person. The food was freshly prepared and of good quality. We ordered the tuna tartare twice, where, in our opinion, the tuna flavor was completely overpowered by the mayonnaise-like sauce. The dish also tasted strongly of soy sauce. My companion had beef, which was very good, and three types of rice. I liked the one with coconut the best. My fried pointed cabbage was on point, and the sauce was tasty. The spice was somewhat unevenly distributed across the cabbage. The side vegetables tasted mainly of soy sauce and dried onions. The service was friendly and professional. However, the service seemed a bit disorganized, and there was no clear assignment of waitresses. We waited an hour for the main course. I personally found the price a bit high.

Don't eat here if you are a vegetarian. All vegetarian dishes were completely tasteless. The tofu was even fried completely unmarinated... very special. A number of starters were taken off the receipt, which is nice, but the main course really made no sense. A few leaves of lettuce, that unmarinated tofu, what looked like uncooked noodles and a dash of red sauce. After three bites we left. Too bad, this food has not yet been next to Indonesian food, so I honestly don't understand why you call it that.

Very good meal. We went for the 5-course chef's menu and it was delicious! Nice service, good atmosphere. Had a very nice evening.

We went to Bistro Indonesia for dinner one evening. Upon arrival we had been given a spot near the fire hose and fuse cabinet, not very atmospheric to sit next to a fire hose. Our street food snacks arrived on the table and they were finally very disappointing. We had ordered vegetarian envelopes with absolutely no taste, but then really no taste at all. I myself had ordered chicken legs of which the legs consisted more of a kind of hard gummy pieces but were also very dry. After this was reported to the staff, this was removed from the bill. The main course arrived and actually exactly the same as the street food snacks, it was disappointing. In particular the vegetarian dish was again very tasteless and you actually did not know what you had on your plate, the tofu was tasteless and tasted like nothing. I had ordered a variation on rendang which was tasty in itself, the meat was good but the taste of rendang was nowhere to be found. All in all, the price and quality are not in balance. You get dishes that are not generous but the price is quite generous. The service was otherwise just fine. We would not quickly walk in here again if we are in Haarlem again..

Food was Ok, but if you come as couple you get a high stool only option, no matter if you are pregnant (as I am) and there are plenty of lower seating options, I asked if it was possible as it is so uncomfortable to be in a stool at 8months preggo, they said No. The first waitress (brunette) was quite rude with me, asking me to hide my bottle of water, I understand it might look ‘bad’ at a restaurant, but then offer some tab water as other places do. Food ain’t cheap, improve your service and try to be more kind to customers. The other 2 waiters: young blonde girl and guy, were actually much more nicer.

Bistrobar Indonesia staat goed aangeschreven, dus we hadden ons verheugd op een uitgebreide vegetarische rijsttafel. Helaas wist die ons niet te verrassen. De gerechtjes waren eenvoudig, de smaken vlak en de pittigheid sterk vernederlandst. De rijst was droog en de gerechten werden lauw geserveerd, wat de beleving niet ten goede kwam. Voor bijna €40 per persoon voelde de rijsttafel als een verzameling losse, weinig bijzondere gerechtjes. Een pluspunt was de bediening: een enthousiast en vriendelijk jong team dat de sfeer absoluut ten goede kwam. Helaas kon dit het eten niet compenseren. Gezien de reputatie van het restaurant en de prijs hadden we meer verwacht van de vegetarische rijsttafel, zowel qua smaak als presentatie. Voor liefhebbers van authentiek en goed gekruid Indisch of Indonesisch eten is dit restaurant wellicht niet de beste keuze.

Some things were really delicious I enjoyed the taco. But my god, so many slices of pepper are put on everything, I was just some fried rice and there was such a huge mountain of pepper on it and on the satay and the other dishes there was also a huge mountain, it's a shame you couldn't taste the herbs properly. I hope it will be tastier next time with less pepper on it.

Heerlijke gerechten, smaakvol. Jammer dat het eten niet warm was. Verder heel rumoerig en de muziek een enorme stoorzender. Wij konden elkaar nauwelijks verstaan.

This Indo is better on the Amstel

The atmosphere/ambiance is very pleasant, and the service/service was very professional. We ordered 2 cocktails and the rice table as a main course. In my opinion, the cocktails were too 'subtle' in taste. Of the main course, 3 of the 13 dishes were unsuccessful, 2 satay burnt/too dry and a bean curd dish that was much too salty. These are quality issues that can be prevented.

Will definitely come back again

It's been a while, but we had another great evening. We took the Ted's Choice Menu, which included 5 courses and a glass of wine. Everything equally delicious!!! We were very comfortable, very friendly staff. Service top... extra thanks to Kaylee 🤭😉 Chef Ted also came to ask if everything was to your liking and also spoke to owner Thierry. A very successful evening.

Unfortunately, we agree with the bad reviews that I read too late. Service not professional and not customer friendly at all. Food mediocre and super little. It is really insufficient for the prices being asked. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Shame!!

Get the Rijsttafel, it’s an unforgettable flavour voyage to Indonesia. The restaurant is classy without being stuffy. I recommend to everyone to go there and try the Rijsttafel at least once in your life! We had the 13 plates service and we were stuffed out of our minds. I don’t know who could handle 15…

Ordered food online via Ubereats. The food, vegetarian, was unappetizing, far too salty and absolutely not recommended. I don't understand how you could have delivered something so vile,

Worst tent ever. We had 2x chicken satay. We received 6 skewers with 2 chicken pieces on them. The menu featured a rice table. We received some sticky stick that was watery as hell. Food was also not tasty. This place certainly cannot call itself Indonesian. Close that trade

Gastrobar is no longer so guest-friendly. In the new year, in January, we had a nice dinner here. We had set aside Friday evening for this. When making the reservation we had to pay €45 in advance. Never experienced that, but ok, Suda, never mind. After eating a delicious rice table, which was served after 45 minutes, but that is normal, we ordered dessert. We were told that we no longer had time for this. What do you mean?? We were here for less than 2 hours and were far from finished dining and dining. It turned out that they work with a time slot. This was not mentioned during the reservation and it is not stated on the website. In short, just order everything at once and eat a lot during the rice table. As a purebred Indo, this is not hospitable and it now looks like a food bar that wants to increase turnover speed. So I was back home at 9 p.m. What a downer. Shame about the hospitality. The food and service are good.

Today we had dinner in the Bistrobar. Without reservation. Fortunately we were still able to go. It was pleasantly busy. Upon arrival, we were well received by one of the ladies, who very kindly and neatly accepted the coat. We felt well taken care of throughout the evening. I can recommend it to everyone!

Don't go here. Nothing is learned from the reviews. Also sent an email to management, but no response at all. Were placed in a cold, noisy place, close to a large front door that constantly lets in the cold. Ordered a rice table for 3 people, delivered for 2. Portions were way too small. We were allowed to add extra rice, but the pieces of chicken were far from insufficient. 250 euros lighter (including 2 bottles of wine) a money grab

We had a rice table for 5 people, but it was far too little for 5 people, see the other reviews, same portions, only for 4. We received 2 small bowls of rice, which we could get more of if we asked, but only 2 bowls of rice. with 5 of us it is very tight. And before the waitress arrived, the extra rice was no longer necessary. In the end we got a rice table for 2 people from the house, which made up for it a bit. The food was delicious and the atmosphere inside was good. Nice location to eat with a group. By getting relatively little for the money we had to pay in the beginning, it was somewhat resolved, after which all in all 3 stars.

Ridiculous that you have to pay 30 euros if you want to make a reservation for 2 people! Very customer unfriendly gesture.

Wij hadden veel zin in ons bezoek aan Bistrobar Indonesia want we houden van de Indonesische keuken. Het restaurant heeft een gezellige sfeer, maar de tafeltjes staan wel behoorlijk dicht op elkaar. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk. Wij kozen voor de middelste rijsttafel op de kaart. Deze bestaat uit een aantal afwisselende gerechtjes. Helaas was het eten niet echt warm en vonden wij de porties vrij klein voor wat je moet betalen. Wij zijn geen grote eters, maar alles ging echt op, behalve de rijst. Het eten was op zich lekker van smaak, al mocht het van ons iets pittiger. De gebakken banaan was te melig en had nauwelijks smaak, de garnalen waren het lekkerst. Al met al een leuke ervaring, maar voor deze prijs hadden wij er meer van verwacht. Voor ons blijft het daarom bij 1 keer.

Echt een sfeervolle plek. Betrokken en vriendelijke bediening. Heerlijk gegeten met voldoende uitleg over de gerechten,

Zoals altijd weer heerlijk gegeten bij Bistrobar Indonesia. Vriendelijke ontvangst en bediening. Deze keer hebben we allerlei verschillende gerechtjes van da kaart uitgezocht. Streetfood, voorgerecht en bijgerechtjes door elkaar heen. Vooral de taco babi java is een aanrader, maar de loempia bebek, de sate's zijn ook allemaal goed op smaak. Het is Indo met een culinaire draai dat maakt het allemaal heel bijzonder en vindt je niet in andere restaurants terug. Overigens zijn de rijsttafels ook erg goed, maar die doen we weer een andere keer, want we komen zeker terug!

Goed georganiseerd restaurant met meer dan voldoende (vriendelijk) personeel! Wij hadden het verrassingsmenu (4-gangen) dat binnen twee uur werd opgediend (kan nét). Met kroepoek, stokbrood en een amuse vooraf was het voor mij iets teveel. Maar alles had een zeer goede kwaliteit. De tafel werd een keer of drie schoongemaakt, ook nog nooit meegemaakt. Als er dan een minpuntje is dan zou ik vragen om in het grote restaurant te dineren in plaats van in de wat verhoogde zaal links boven. Zit net iets ongezelliger.

In a word, fantastic, friendly girls in the service, the food is delicious and you have a nice seat in a cozy atmosphere. Thank you for the well-organized dinner. We would love to come back.

Had many Indo restaurants. This is one of the better ones. Service could be a little smoother or an extra colleague, especially when it starts at 5:30 PM and you have guests with a shorter table time. Very friendly. See you soon!

As a vegetarian, skip this restaurant. It’s loud, noise, and the vegetarian menu came with vegetables undercooked and an overall unoriginal feeling. The staff was very nice, but the food was 40min late.

I always enjoy eating here. Very tasty. Had the chef's menu for a change instead of the rijsttafel and was a surprising array of dishes that we got served, offering a more modern take on Indo-Dutch cuisine. Highly recommend!

Was here for the first time with my family we had a reservation at 17:30.. we got our table and orderd drinks, only the fact was that we had to wait very long for our food.. the guests who came later got even their food first after long waiting and asking we got our food.. for me when you bake food you make sure it's not burned.. some off them was burned the shrimps where over cooked the tofu was burned but really burned and didn't any taste, i am now not complaining BUT if guests are waiting this long abd you get this infront of you . I would not be happy, for the rest it was good but if i want to come again it's a no.

What a nice restaurant this is, the food is fantastic and the girls in the service are great. Whether on the telephone or working hard in the restaurant itself, you will always receive super friendly service and assistance. You never sit there for 5 minutes with an 'invisible arm' raised to attract attention, they keep a constant yet subtle eye on you and come immediately to a question. As mentioned, the food is fantastic and that starts with the prawn crackers and especially the jar of peanut sauce that is placed on the table. In addition, the location is also very nice and cozy regardless of where you sit. One floor below is the toilet where you can also admire an old bank vault and - if you are a man - you can go to the 'gintlemen' toilet. A reference to the previous occupant… If you haven't eaten here before, definitely do so. But without haste, because it can take a while due to the crowds, but the girls also handle this in an informative, thoughtful and, above all, charmingly sympathetic manner. Of course, the delicious food also deserves a relaxed and enjoying guest. There is simply no time for this... Experience it yourself and you are guaranteed to become a fan and returning visitor!

On closer inspection, not entirely satisfied with the price/quality ratio. We expected it to be a little more refined and with more taste, like at Garuda in The Hague (and Garuda is even a little cheaper). Staff extremely competent and friendly. Location and interior are beautiful.

Ate there with my family. My wife is Indonesian and an expert when it comes to Indo food. To get straight to the point, a lot of salt, a lot of fat, and little meat in the dishes. This makes everything taste flat and you really miss the variation in the taste. When booking online I indicated that it was our 22nd wedding anniversary. You expect at least a congratulations. But unfortunately I didn't notice anything at all. That was really a disappointment. Edit in response to owner's response: Indeed, we did not have lunch, but dinner with you. I have adjusted this. I think it's a shame that you immediately assume that I posted the message incorrectly. If you had checked the online reservations, you would have seen that I ate with you.

I'm in a hip place and I will know that: big beats, which disappear as the place becomes overcrowded and everyone shouts louder and louder to be audible to the nearest neighbor. At the end of the evening my voice has dropped an octave. And my clothes smell like food, which is quite nice, but not spectacular. Except for the shrimp spring roll, which was! The rice table arrives at the table lukewarm, which is a shame. Service has to work hard and yet it is fine! High prices, but the food could use a little more spice.

We went to this restaurant to eat Indonesian food, but unfortunately the flavors did not come close to Indonesian cuisine. The nasi goreng and nasi kuning were extremely dry and tasteless, the rendang was basically a piece of fried steak and the satay was fried for too long and black in color. The gado gado had a nice taste, but half of an egg was missing. We do not recommend it and will not eat here again.

Service was fine, but we waited longer between dishes than necessary. The food was tasty, but the cheese stick as an amuse-bouche was a miss and not a good starter. Furthermore, nice, tasty and beautiful dishes. The location is very nice and the furnishings are perfect.

You pay a €15 deposit for a booking. Once there, the table wasn’t ready ~5 mins wait (not a problem). Once at the table, drinks ordering process was brilliant, lovely cocktails too. (Indo Mule recommended). Now it goes downhill from here. 1) none of the teenage staff (I specify this because the empathy and service delivery was pathetic) truly cared for your experience. 2) none of them informed you before seating that a dish was no longer available. I ordered the chefs favourite and I was informed after it was not available anymore - very disappointing. 3) settled for the mussels and my partner the veggie dish - this took over 35 mins to arrive after 1) starters had finished. 2) Rice dishes arrived before the mains for 10 minutes before a staff member took it back and apologised it shouldn’t have arrived yet & finally 3) a kind reminder to the staff that if it wasn’t there in the next 2 minutes I’d be leaving (they told me 2 mins) - food arrived after 2 mins from that reminder… 4) Food arrived - no flavour or unique taste to the mussels (highly recommend avoiding it if you like mussels) & the rice was extremely dry to the point I left most of it as is. 5) after informing the staff that it was a poor service and quality after being asked ‘how was the meal’ - I received a sorry + a €98 bill which was quite frankly an absolute rip off considering the experience. No offer of discount or additional appetisers like a coffee on the house etc as you’d expect after such abysmal service & food - simply a ‘well I hope that next time It will be better for you’ - politely informed that there will not be a next time for me. Then left. Highly recommend the cocktails though, they were extremely good. For the rest, mediocre at best.

Heerlijke rijsttafel gegeten, keuze uit 3 type en vegetarisch! Losse gerechten kan ook maar wij willen eigenlijk altijd van alles wat proeven. Hele goede hoeveelheid.Je kunt alles opeten en dat vinden wij heel belangrijk. Nagedacht hoe alles op een klein tafeltje past. Prachtig gebouw en plek om te zijn. Bediening volop aanwezig en zorgt goed voor zijn gasten, aandachtig, heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De drankjes zijn wel echt te duur, dat is niet nodig. Aanrader!

We really wanted to like this restaurant - the staff were so lovely although at times looked as though they were rather hard pushed to cope - but find it hard to truly recommend to those who really want great Indonesian food. We shared the Rijsttafels and the best part was the accompanying nasa goreng - put simply it was OK although 2 of the 13 dishes we left. For us, it essentially lacked the delicious spicing to be expected with this cuisine and most dishes were extremely sweet. I did mention to the waitress who explained they needed to cater for children (??) so they had to be mindful and while we appreciate this, if you go to an Indonesian eatery you don't expect a dumbdowned version unless of course you are forewarned. We may have been better opting for the a la carte dishes perhaps which I imagine are cooked to order ... The decor was not to our taste having 'the nightclub vibe', very dark, lots of black and of course music consistent with this mood; tables very close together too. This meal along with a bottle of wine came to 120E for which we would have expected a rather different experience.

Top Indonesian sharing bites eaten in a relaxed environment. Service was very good. Can definitely recommend Barbistro Indonesia.

Busy place, but the food is delicious and special.

We often pass by and have not eaten before but now order something for the first time. Maybe it is due to the delivery, but the Nasi rames special tastes flat, not much spice. There is also no sambal Included. The fish is good, although the crust is also soft due to delivery. The gado gado is tasty and fresh, but even there the spice is a bit out and the prawn crackers are soft. Perhaps it is better to eat on the spot, now the dishes are falling apart a bit and things are not being done justice.

With our reservation at hand we had to wait 10 minutes before someone came over to the reception area to greet us. Clearly the owner wants to run his business with minimal staff. Tables are extremely close one to another, so having private conversations are not possible in this restaurant. Two ignorant waitresses to serve the entire restaurant. I had explicitly requested to one waitress to put the pork meat on the side. The other waitress clearly was not informed, so we were being served pork meat! It’s like when you flag an allergy and it’s not being taken seriously by the staff. The food in this restaurant was ok, seating terrible and service slow and incomplete.
