Bistrot Neuf in Haarlemmerbuurt

Once again, I dined in the "little room" with a group. Nine of us were served the chef's menu. This time, it was a bit disappointing. A charcuterie board bridged the first hour before a cold fish appetizer, which tasted rather strange. When explaining the menu, at least mention that this fish dish is cold. Then came a bisque, tasty but at a very low temperature. If you mention it, you're told that's how it's supposed to be. As if I were eating this for the first time. The duck main course, on the other hand, was delicious. The dessert wasn't outstanding, but it was tasty. I was a bit worried because there were two people at the table with nut allergies, and they weren't sure if the "kletskopje" (small dish) could contain something like that. The wines, again, were impeccable. In short, a somewhat disappointing experience; I've had much better meals here. After this disappointing experience and posting my review above, I was surprised to receive a call from Ben a few days later. He was very sorry that we had such a disappointing dinner and invited us to come back so they could rectify the situation. The two of us did so, and we enjoyed a very delicious four-course dinner with a matching wine pairing. I really appreciate that a previous mistake is being rectified in this way. Thank you for this wonderful evening.

Very good french restaurant. With wine is not a cheap place but if you are willing to pay for a nice french meal with a nice atmosphere, it is worth it!

Neuf was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. Cozy place. Very friendly staff. Delicious food at fair prices. Wine list with great options and variety. Just missed the a la cart options to also be offered on a menu as the menu available seemed a bit limited so the waiters needed to inform us what the other options were and check the prices. Apart from that, it's a 10/10 bistrot. I'll definitely be back!

It is a lovely spot in the heart of Amsterdam. Perfect for anyone who loves French cuisine, their dishes are delicious and beautifully presented. It’s also a great place to stop by for a glass of wine and some small bites.

I'd go back in a heartbeat. We were short on time and ordered a la carte. Starters? Lobster bisque (fantastic) and pate (great). Then share the sirloin with Bordelaise sauce. It was perfectly cooked with fries and salad. No time for dessert, unfortunately. Make a booking, it gets crowded.

On my way to and from Italy several times a year, I always enjoy lunch or dinner at this great discovery - my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. I am a fan of this bistro-style cuisine and it manages to stay true but also carries the local influence. Oysters are always pristine, the pates are top-notch, and the main plates never disappoint. And it would be a big mistake to not mention the fantastic wine list. Many very good selections by the glass, and a wonderful selection of bottles. Bravo!

A very welcoming restaurant. Especially at the bar, you can enjoy a wonderful meal. The staff works quickly and is very helpful. The food was delicious; I really can't fault it. The atmosphere is lovely. And wow, what a wine selection! So much choice, it's unbelievable! I had no idea what to choose, but luckily the staff certainly knows how to help, which is great. If good wines are important to you, this is the place to go. They're affiliated with the Chabrol Winery, which is right next door and a household name in Amsterdam. So, in my opinion, it's a truly compelling combination of good food and wonderful wines.

My husband and I had a lovely dinner at this restaurant, which we randomly selected during a walk in Amsterdam. Lucky for us, they had one table available on a busy Friday evening! The food and drinks were fantastic. We basically just followed all the recommendation from the gentlemen who took care of us: thank you Noa!! Can only recommend !

Great fine dining experience almost a Michelin star experience. I have been to some michelin restaurants and the service is comparable, the chefs menu is cardully crafted with heavy rich dishes being softend with some acidic or sweetness with for example a piece of grapefruit. Would really recommend this place if you want the full michelin star experience inside the city center. Service was great they even made seperate dishes if you are allergic to lactose for example.

The service was very attentive and friendly. We were able to sit at a table without a reservation, and our dogs were welcome too. The food and drinks were delicious, and the staff were very friendly throughout the evening. I had to give it one star for the ambience. It was very, very loud in the restaurant. At times, we almost had to shout at each other to be able to speak.

While on holiday in Amsterdam, I stumbled upon this restaurant completely by chance. From the outside it looked rather ordinary, even modest – but once inside, the experience turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderfully cozy, with a relaxed and welcoming service that immediately made us feel at home. It’s the kind of place where you could happily sit for hours without any sense of hurry. The food crowned the experience. We started with oysters, followed by the 4-course menu with wine pairing, and the whole combination was excellent – the balance of flavors and attention to detail were simply superb. The wine pairings complemented the dishes perfectly. Excellent place – easily in my top 5 restaurants! Service was flawless, the atmosphere warm and comfortable. Two hours flew by, and I know I’ll definitely return on my next visit to Amsterdam. Tip: if you want to make sure you get a table, book in advance. There’s a €25 reservation fee, but it’s deducted from the final bill.

Such a cute French spot with a really cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious – probably the best escargots I’ve had in the Netherlands! A lovely place for an authentic French dining experience. Highly recommend. You should reserve a place as they are quite busy, especially on weekends.

Brilliant wine selection and high quality food.

Great bistro, very pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and superb dishes. The lamb was excellent, as were the ravioli. The desserts were delicious, especially the orange crêpe suzette. A fairly extensive wine list is very enjoyable. A very good and pretty "French" bistro.

It was a beautiful restaurant and the dishes were really delicious. My husband and I went there for the second time in a row and ordered dinner. After I asked for the bill, I was surprised that they had added 10 euros for the bread, unfortunately.

Simply disgusting food. It is absolutely unclear what you are paying for here. They brought a set of oysters, which were ROTTEN!!! But yes, thank you, they deigned to exclude them from the bill. Tasteless ravioli, miserable tartare with the taste of soggy bread, not fresh meat. Thank God we did not order anything else. Do not go to this place. Go anywhere, but not here. One star for the nice waitress.

I'd already dined here three times, two years ago. Compared to then, this time I found the service very slow, and the quality generally much lower than in the past. Absolutely terrible value for money. We ordered a brownie for dessert, and it arrived with an absurd, tasteless, and inconsistent jumble of ingredients. I don't know if I'll be back again.

A weird mix of upscale restaurant and casual bistro. €80 for 16 medium-sized oysters is just way too expensive.

Amazing and wide selection of champagne and wine by the glass start this charming French bistro off very well. Also an extensive bottled wine list that appears quite reasonably priced. Service is a highlight with warm and very knowledgeable staff. Beef tartar to start was a decent start but the escargot were delectable. The butter and garlic helps, of course, with perfect bread for dipping. I tried the brioche neuf for main which is brioche with foie gras and lobster with a truffle mayonnaise. Quite delicious but the lobster is lost amid the foie gras and truffle. Wonderful fennel cake with rubbard (which I cannot resist) and a Thai basil ice cream. Well worth a visit.

Another excellent dinner in Amsterdam! This little French bistro had the best mussels we've ever had. Mussels this year are plentiful we enjoyed them with frites. Our server was very kind and helpful. They had a tasting menu but we opted for alacarte. Enjoyed veal cheek appetizer that was amazing and soup as starters. Added a nice red wine. Perfect evening!!

We went here for its high rating and “French” category; both proved undeserved. And it explains why it was nearly empty on a Sunday at 7 pm. They play jazzy American bar music, nothing French here. Service is slow despite the low attendance. Food average at best. Avoid.

Fantastic food and presentation

Ambiance was very nice. A charming hidden restaurant on haarlemerstraat. The people who worked there also do their job great. We tried the chefs menu and all amazing. Also the Brioche de neuf was fav.

Hoe Frans wil je het hebben? Het ademt echt de sfeer van een Franse bistro. Franse muziek uit de speakers en een wijnkaart waar zelfs Charles Aznavour een toontje hoger bij zou gaan zingen. Gerechten met weinig poespas. Klassiek en lekker.

Bistrot Neuf is a real dichotomy between awesome food and terrible service. While normally service isn’t a dealbreaker, it was over an hour between sitting down and our first course arriving. We considered if we somehow offended our waitress with our wine selection. The veal cheek in lentils was one of the best plates I’ve had.

Trato genial tan pronto como llegamos. Camarera súper amable y conocedora (No puedo recordar su nombre) explicó el menú y también las bebidas. Comimos una copa de champán para empezar, compartimos que la cote de boeuf (cocinada a la perfección) no tenía entrantes, ya que sabía más que suficiente comida para dos. Tuvimos copas de vino, donde la camarera nos habló a través de ellos y dio muestras antes de servir. Este es uno de los mejores restaurantes de Amsterdam para comida, servicio y decoración. Simple, nice, a little expensive

A perfect experience from start to finish! Every dish, from the starter to the dessert, was absolutely delicious — special mention to the brioche neuf and the bisque, both exquisite. But the real added value was the outstanding service from the young man who looked after our table. From the moment we arrived to the end of the meal, he took incredible care of us with warmth and professionalism. A big thank you! We’ll definitely be back on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Nice place where you can also sit down later in the evening for a cheese board, for example. Wide range of wines by the glass and service with knowledge about the products. Will definitely come back here!

Good location and in the center. The meat is chic, the tartar is interesting, the foie gras is delicious, the brownie dessert is excellent, but the boisbez is passable, I don’t recommend it. The atmosphere is great and the selection of wines and prices are appropriate. Nice place for lunch.

Saw this restaurant by chance when I walked pass it, looked really interesting. So I decided to give it a try and was surprised, food was lovely, flavours were all pretty good. But a slight regret, I should have ordered ala carte rather than the tasting menu, cause portions were really small. But I still enjoyed the food and the service here was really good, staff were professional and attentive, made the whole experience really nice.

I think the waiter was a little rude after I said I didn't want to eat anything. I didn't want to eat anything because it's just not my type of food. Every dish had something I couldn't eat. My partner did enjoy their food. I tried it but it was very oily. I do recommend it if you enjoy expensive fine dining and quality liquor. The atmosphere is great, the decorations are very nice.

We usually go to this great restaurant every year. This year frankly.... We are required to take a compulsory menu because there are 8 of us.. Starter and dishes really not as usual Not great service either There is a big challenge to be had for the whole team We hope for change for next year (to find what we know)

Food was quite good. Nothing special, but tasty. We were served by 2 people. The lady was polite, then she must have left and a young gentleman took over, he was pretty arrogant. Manager was rudish to my mom being on the phone, but no word was said to other couple who had video chat prior to that and to a very loud men group of 6 later. They were so loud, we couldn’t even hear each other. We had high hopes. I would not go to this place twice.

Qué hermoso restaurante. Ya comimos, así que solo queríamos caracoles y ostras. Botella de vino. Desafortunadamente no podíamos pagar el champán. La comida era increíble realmente disfrutar. El personal estaba un poco desinteresado, ya que tal vez no era comprar las cosas más caras en el menú. Que es lo mismo que defraudó la comida. Me llevé a mi hija porque era su cumpleaños. ¿Placas sucias quedaron en nuestra mesa hasta que pagamos la cuenta? Trabajo en la venta al por menor, así no es como se trata a la gente agradable.

This is a nice place. The food is good, though not excellent. Staff is really nice, especially Anna, she made us feel very welcome with her genuine smile and personal approach. The place is nicely decorated, but to my taste they put in too many tables which makes it rather noisy inside. Sometimes it was hard to have a conversation without raising your voice which is a bit of a shame if you pay these kind of prices. Overall a nice experience though.

We hadden een lunch voor 4 personen gereserveerd en het is ons zeer goed bevallen. Leuk, informele kader, mooie presentatie van de heerlijke gerechten, vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Het voldeed volledig aan onze ‘Franse’ verwachtingen. Kortom: sterwaardig, laat de Michelin-inspecteurs maar komen!

We had a lovely evening at this restaurant, which boasts a fantastic atmosphere—warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed dining experience. Our waitress was exceptional: attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, especially when it came to recommending wines that paired perfectly with our meal. Her suggestions elevated our experience and made us feel very welcome. For my main course, I opted for the entrecôte. While it was cooked well and seasoned nicely, I found the quality of the meat itself to be somewhat average. That said, the rest of the experience more than made up for it. The menu offers a diverse range of dishes, and for Amsterdam standards, the prices are reasonable and align well with the overall ambiance and quality of the service. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would return for the great atmosphere and top-notch service.

Feedback: The restaurant was much too warm, the air was not extracted properly, it seems. Once outside you smell as if you were having a gourmet meal with 100 people. It's strange that you are asked in advance by email not to put on perfume, with a predominant cooking smell it really doesn't matter anymore... Keep in mind that your clothes/coat have to be dry cleaned (fine if it only concerns you in the washing machine). ). Positive: The Dutch-speaking ladies in the service were sincere, very personable and friendly. Unfortunately, the English-speaking lady at the counter turned out to be mainly concerned with (wine) upselling, etc. Unnecessary, but whatever. We shared a number of starters, which tasted great. Skrei and an entrecôte was shared with bordelaise sauce, fries and lettuce with Parmesan cheese on top. Please don't do the latter. We all didn't fall over backwards because of the dishes, it was fine. We were very disappointed with the bill, especially because of the prices of the wines by the glass. Normally not a problem if you have had a really pleasant evening with top dishes and wine. This was a tight 7, all in all. Neuf Amsterdam was a one-off for us, but it is a great bistro.

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here at Neuf. The food was delicious and the staff very friendly. They also took my husband's onion allergy into account (bad experiences with many restaurants, but not here). Not only do they think along carefully, they also replace the onion with another ingredient so that the dish still tastes delicious! All in all, the food was delicious, although on the pricey side, but that's OK for the products they use.

Delicious burger with fries, good atmosphere and pleasant service

A bit disappointing. We were able to book a table for Friday evening the day before. When we arrived we were greeted in a friendly way and given a nice table. After about 10 minutes the sommelier, asked if we wanted to see the wine menu, but we were not given the food menu's. So we decided to just have a glass of wine, since we had no idea what we were going to be eating. I further found the way that the sommelier acted was a bit arrogant and patronising. I can maybe understand it if he would be working in a 3 Michelin star restaurant, but not in a bistro.. The food was fine, bouillabaisse, tartare de boeuf and goose liver for starter were fine. We decided to have the special of the day, which was a beef Wellington for two. As it was for two, I expected it to be a small Wellington or similar, but I was surprised when they just served two slices of Wellington on a plate. Why did this have to be ordered for two people? It came with some salad and fries. The beef was nicely cooked, but the pastry was very soggy and for some reason they had wrapped the inside layer (which I assume was a crepe) with lettuce leaves, which was a first for me in a Wellington. So I was not blown away, and my son told me he preferred the Wellington I make at home.. My wife's bouillabaisse was fine. She did throw up all night, but we are not sure what caused that, and as I had the same thing as a starter and I had no issues, I don't think it was the bouillabaisse. But overall, we left with mixed feelings, and I am not in a hurry to return.

We were welcomed as a family with ease and warm cordiality. Excellent service, with cuisine close to a Michelin star. The little touches and politeness from the waitresses/waiters. A very nice place to enjoy yourself, a great discovery, I would go back there sometime!

Our favorite place to go for dinner in Amsterdam. We often come down from Rotterdam for the night to visit Amsterdam and just can’t resist not going here. The whole team is so nice, have a lot of knowledge about all the products and create a very nice and welcoming atmosphere. The food is to die for. The chefs in the kitchen really nailed it. The flavours are amazing and the dishes are really well put together and presented. My absolute favorite is the lamb, when it’s on the menu. I would recommend this place to anyone if you are looking for a cozy night with a lot of ambience, outstanding service and amazing high quality dishes.

The restaurant is beautiful and quiet. The service is excellent. I ordered steak, appetizers, and tiramisu. Honestly, the chef wins. He was creative in mixing the flavors in each dish and had a distinctive taste. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Chef.

Nice place to eat, with an impressive wine list. The service is Dutch-speaking and familiar with their own wines, so you also get sensible advice. Tip for the kitchen brigade. Don't overcomplicate the classics. The steak tartare is tasty, but better without all the fuss. That disrupts the mouthfeel. Same with the brioche with duck liver (or was it goose). Fairly sweet. Keep it pure. Furthermore, the charcuterie is highly recommended.

Perfectly measured portions for the four-course menu, friendly staff and good service. Only a slightly too small space in the separate seating area, especially if there are 10 people in it and everyone is trying to chat at the loudest. Can be disruptive.

Overall a superb French experience in Amsterdam. I had dinner with a friend here earlier in the year, the atmosphere is cozy and warm. I had the Dover sole with beurre noisette, pilaf rice with dried fruit and nuts. The sole was soft and flaky, and I liked the contrast in texture and flavor with the rice. Dessert was great too, although I don't like raspberry, the chocolate mouse was very rich.

What a gem in Amsterdam! Amazing wine list and the food!! Top!
