Surprised Johannes is not a Michelin starred restaurant as their food is as good or even better than the 1-stars in Vancouver!

Great service. Fantastic food (every bite was delicious) in particular the oyster was exceptionally good. The wines in the package were sublime and paired very well with the dishes. We were very impressed.

Mooie plek, culinair genieten van het Chef's menu. Heerlijke amuses tussendoor en verrassende gerechten! Vriendelijke en adequate bediening, goed verzorgd en uitleg van de gerechten. Kwaliteit/prijs in goede verhouding, rijke wijnkaart om passende keuzes te maken.

Johannes offers a delightful dining experience, perfect for a romantic evening, especially if seated by the window with views of the canal. The three-course menu is well-crafted, combining exquisite flavors with excellent value for money. However, the experience can be marred by noise, as the restaurant's acoustics struggle with larger groups. Additionally, while the wine selection is commendable, the pours could be more generous. Despite these minor issues, Johannes impresses with its ambiance and culinary finesse, making it a great choice for a special night out.

Memorable Birthday dinner couldn't fault it. A lovely meal started with Normandy oysters with champagne followed by a chefs choice 5 course taster menu. The place was tasteful with a pleasant ambience. All courses were excellent and the wine pairing worked well. The serving staff were engaging and made our evening. Highly recommended and didn't break the bank. Love to return on our next Amsterdam message. Thank you

Heerlijke gerechtjes voor een prettige prijs (55 euro voor vijf gangen). Ook heel schappelijk geprijsd bijpassend wijnarrangement ( 28,75). Mooi lokaal, vriendelijk personeel, vlakbij het Koningsplein. Kortom de drie pijlers voor een aangenaam etentje waren dik in orde. We gingen op de bonnefooi en kregen om 18.00 uur op een stormachtige woensdagavond een tafeltje. Maar op een andere dag lijkt reserveren een noodzaak, want ondanks het weer zat het restaurant later op de avond bijna helemaal vol.

Gisteravond weer een heerlijke avond gehad bij Johannes. We hadden het 7-gangen menu en elke gang was weer een heerlijke belevenis. Zeer verfijnde smaken erop een bijzondere manier klaargemaakt. Voeg daarbij een zeer vriendelijke en ongedwongen bediening en de avond is compleet

Gezellig restaurant niet te groot niet te klein dus persoonlijke aandacht VS alleen gelaten worden. Prijs kwaliteit is goed alleen jammer dat je veel geld voor water moet betalen en friandises te groot en duur. Eten was lekker en anders dan meeste doorsnee restaurants.

Best place for having amazing food experience. The courses, the line that connects all this courses together... everything is on the highest level! Thanks a lot for opening to me new horizons in food degustation. Let the hands of kitchen staff be blessed and many thanks to the waitresses because they made my evening!

This restaurant is a must for us. We dine here often, and over the years the quality, taste , and presentation of our meals is consistently top shelf. We hope to continue this dining experience for a long time. Let's not forget the staff who explain each course in detail. A lovely mix of flavors.

It has been 1.5 years since I was last here and I think that is far too long. In the meantime, the interior has changed slightly and the lighting has been adjusted, which has certainly been a success: it all looks warmer and more cozy. The food had not changed: it was delicious again. I had a 5-course surprise menu and again it was all little surprises and appetizers in between. Come back here soon 😊

A lovely little restaurant by the canal. We had the seven dish tasting menu, and it was literally too much to finish! Absolutely lovely dishes and friendly service.

Quaint candlelight atmosphere. Expected a dining experience and it delivered! Chose the 5 course chef's surprise and enjoyed many delights with some nice wine. We enjoyed our surprises and our time there. Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours for the experience.

Unbelievable food, service and atmosphere! Second time returning and once again I leave blown away - we did the 5 course set menu this time and the wine pairing which is a must! We celebrated a 21st birthday and enjoyed every aspect of this gem!!

What a fantastic restaurant! Our dinner at Johannes was amazing! The restaurant is charming (located on a picturesque canal in Amsterdam), the food was outstanding, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The tarte tintin was one of the best desserts I have ever had. You need to order it 20 minutes in advance.

Chef Sam continues to delight us all with his culinary creativity and delicious combinations of flavors. As soon as you step into this quintessential canal house in the centre of Amsterdam you are warmly greeted by the attentive staff. You will feel comfortable in the subtle luxury of this restaurant overlooking the Herengracht canal. The menu continues to feature spectacular dishes with intense flavors that are beautifully presented. They have a carefully crafted wine list, this is an extraordinary dining experience in every detail. I am still surprised that they not been visited by the Michelin inspectors. They should be.

The food was good however I wouldn’t say it was excellent. We both felt like there wasn’t anything truly exciting or unexpected. Service and atmosphere were fantastic. I’d still probably eat here again as we were the last table of the night and perhaps wasn’t the best showing?

Dit is de tweede keer dat wij hier eten. En ook nu weer erg lekker! Deze keer á la card gegeten in plaats van het verrassingsmenu. Voorgerechten erg lekker, amuse verrassend en de hoofdgerechten Prima in orde! We komen zeker weer terug!!

We celebrated the birthday of my wife and it was a great experience. Starting with an excellent service the food was great and the choice of wine fit the purpose of our dinner. As a lovely surprise my wife got a special birthday desert an was really touched by it. Thanks for the remarkable evening.

We had an amazing 7-course meal for my friend’s birthday. Great food, friendly staff/excellent service, beautiful atmosphere inside and outside the resto, good wine selection, truly a feast for the senses. Highly recommended!

Very pleasant setting along the canals. Intimate atmosphere, attentive service without falling into a corner. I had the 6 course menu for dinner. The dishes follow one another at the right pace and there are great tasting discoveries, particularly on fish. An area for improvement: a wine list to be enriched with natural/living wine references (to provide an alternative to the conventional). But very good experience, I recommend.

Hands down one of the best restaurants I've ever been!! The food was delicious!

Ate a 7-course menu here with my brother. The service was genuine, friendly, pleasant and as it should be. Peter made the experience great anyway. The food was also incredibly tasty and varied. We also received nice starter snacks, appetizers and a dessert for dessert that were outside the courses for free, fun and delicious! We didn't want to drink alcohol and were given surprisingly nice alternatives for this, I can recommend the bubble tea 😎🤭. Furthermore, the restaurant is in a beautiful spot and we sat outside, but it also looked very attractive inside. In short, don't hesitate and go to Johannes! 🤩

Very good table. The food is delicious, well deserving of its Michelin guide award. The food and wine pairings are very well chosen. Very good value for money. Very friendly staff. Cozy and romantic atmosphere and setting. We will return without hesitation.

I was there 10 years ago and decided to visit it again. Didn’t enjoy the food and service as we enjoyed 10 years ago. We were told that the restaurant was sold to a different owner 7 years ago. Food is quite expensive and doesn’t worth the money we paid (over €300 for 2 people)

A wonderful restaurant with a Mechelin recommendation. The waiters are wonderful, you will be served first class. The food is comparable to Michelin - small, interesting portions, but you won't leave hungry. When choosing a secret menu of 5 dishes, we actually got 8, spent 3 hours and it was worth it!

Johannes was truly exceptional and it really felt like you were getting value for the money spent. All of the food was executed extremely well and was creative and well thought out, one of our favorite parts was the wine pairings. They all felt so perfectly tailored to the meal. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had was their asparagus! Really brilliant. Can’t wait to go back.

Me and my wife enjoyed very much the 6-course menu with a wine selected by the personal. It was a great conclusion to our visit in Amsterdam and an enjoyable culinary experience. Recommend to all who want to taste high end quality cuisine. Will return here on our next Amsterdam trip.

Absolutely delightful. Delicious, creative dishes, that are well balanced and clearly of high quality ingredients. Lovely friendly service and a lovely relaxed ambiance. We had the 7 course chefs menu to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary and every course as well as the amuses was wonderful. Highly recommended - great value for money (especially for Amsterdam)

Took my parents there, who were visiting me from London, for my mom’s birthday. Location is great as it is canal facing on the Herengracht. Ambience is tranquil and intimate, although it was quiet on a Friday evening. Service was great and waiters were very friendly. We opened with a glass of champagne and some oysters from Normandy which were excellent. We opted for the 7- course tasting menu which was fantastic! The chef combines a mix of complex vegetarian, pescatarian and meat courses and was also kind enough to offer off menu specials on the house. Definitely recommend this spot for a nice dinner with friends, family and/or date.

Excellent cuisine. We went to Johannes restaurant for Christmas Eve dinner. It was really great. The staff is very friendly.

Food here was exquisite; service excellent; location - overlooking busy street and canal - was first class. The roe deer in particular was delicious, but in truth everything we had (4 courses) was cooked to perfection. These places are not cheap, but the value was excellent (champagne, wine, calvados, 4 courses, amusee bouche and petit fours) at just over €300 for two.

Excellent restaurant. Would highly recommend the surprise menu. Everything was delicious. We also appreciated that they adjusted the surprise menu for my partner who doesn't prefer fish. The service was great as well and the wine pairings were perfect. One of our favorite restaurants we stopped at between the Netherlands and Belgium.

This restaurant can hold its head up high with many good restaurants in Amsterdam. Great service (especially for this city), nice calm and non pretentious atmosphere and every dish was tasty and a work of art.

The restaurant manager is too pushy in selling extras. Being a local getting charged 12 euro for tap water is not smart. The second bottle came unasked for during desert. Food was a bit below expectations. We had flat iron steak and mussels. Tasty but simple.

We had dinner had Johannes this evening and it was an incredible experience. Not only was the food delicious but the service was impeccable. We had the 6 course option and all the dishes were so flavourful and really filling. The wine we had was also lovely. My boyfriend and I felt that the real standout was the service, the gentlemen that served us were so lovely and polite. We cannot wait to visit again! A real standout in Amsterdam

Loved dining at Restaurant Johannes. The courses were inventive and delicious, the pricing is excellent for what you get and the staff is impeccable. Only reason I gave it four instead of five stars was because a lot of dishes were served with ice cream as a sauce and that got tiring by the end of the meal.

Johannes is a great restaurant. It had been recommended by friends and it lived up to the recommendation. The dishes were interesting and not "meat and potatoes" with a great presentation. The ambiance was great allowing converstaion without feeling deathly quiet and waitstaff that was attentive without hovering. We had the multi-course chefs specials and the food amount was perfectly regulated to allow the enjoyment of multiple dishes without feeling bloated at the end. All of the dishes presented interesting combinations of dishes that were truly enjoyable.

It was interesting. The flavors play a game in your mouth, and you decide whether you like it or not. Some notes hit well, while others not so much, and the combination creates a rollercoaster of taste sensations

Cadre agréable et cosy. Le service était un peu rigide à notre goût mais très professionnel. La cuisine est créative mais manque d'un léger équilibre . Sur que quelques ajustements vous permettrez d'obtenir une reconnaissance plus élevé au Michelin et Gault et Millau.

One of the best and most creative tasting menus we have ever had and we are not strangers to fine cuisine. Wine list well-curated and good value. Excellent ambiance. We were lucky to have a window table overlooking the canal. We were taking food photos and contacting friends to share the pleasure throughout our dinner. Our best dinner in Amsterdam!

Kerstavond 2017. Genoten van een geweldig 7 gangen diner met bijpassende wijnen. Prima bediening, vriendelijk en met kennis van producten. Alles even lekker maar dessert dat bestond uit een appel van geblazen suiker met champagnemousse en crème van boerenjongens was wel één van de hoogtepunten.

Very high quality and tasty food

Sfeerloos restaurant en eigenaar (denk ik) was erg onvriendelijk toen we niet veel wijn namen. Eten viel tegen, structuur van de corvina was taai. Ook na het dessert wilde we geen koffie, werd er gezegd: ‘dan neem je het toch niet’.. erg vreemd! Geen service dat je kan verwachten van een goed restaurant, geen aanrader!
