Great spot for a late lunch during a cold holiday shopping day. Great food and delicious seasonal beer.

Cozy restaurant, good food, only small details are overlooked due to the crowds. But that doesn't detract from your experience.

The food was delicious, but the atmosphere was unfortunately much worse than last year. We were out within an hour. They didn't ask if everything was to our liking, and they barely looked at us, so unfortunately, it was our last visit.

We took seat outdoor the view was beautiful and memorable. It was Dec month chilling outside sitting under the heated umbrella outdoor seating. The small boats 🛶 passing by. Running water sound. The staff were friendly.

The premises were cold and had a leaky chimney. There was also very loud music.

A very welcoming restaurant on the Prinsengracht canal. Dark decor (as per the name, "Black"), now decorated in a Christmas theme. Not many tables, but we had a window seat, a lovely view of the Prinsengracht and the comings and goings of people. Lunch included perfectly cooked Angus beef burgers, one with cheddar and one with blue cheese. Plenty of fries, beer, and cider. Really fair prices. We'll definitely be back; in fact, we're going back next Saturday! ;)

Sabi and Elle really made the evening special. If you’re in Amsterdam and want great food, great drinks, and even better service, I’d definitely recommend Black.

We had a table right in the aisle. That was a bit disappointing.

Great location (comfortable benches in the sun on the gracht, amazing), but while the waiters were nice the service was very slow and the food was mediocre (and expensive). I had the club sandwich for €17,95 and only one half had sauce, the other was super dry. I arrived a little after 12:40, it was busy but not full, and it took until after 13:00 for them to take my order and until around 13:20 for the food to come. All in all would not really recommend.

I want to share my experience here because transparency is important. The restaurant approached me asking for a positive review in exchange for money. This feels to me like they're trying to "buy" people to paint a better picture than reality. This way of treating customers doesn't instill any trust in me. If a business truly offers quality, it doesn't need paid or fake reviews. Everyone can decide for themselves where they want to eat, but my experience with their review communication was truly disappointing and extremely unprofessional. That's why I feel it's only right to share this with others.

A cosy restaurant at the Canals with a fantastic rib-eye and great desserts.

Pleasant atmosphere but very noisy, even with a small number of guests. Small menu, average quality. The service is very amateurish and pays little attention to the guests. The drinks menu includes various beers on tap and in bottles. None of the latter are available!

Arrived early for our table and despite restaurant being full could not have been more accommodating. Had bruschetta and prawns from the Josper to start. Both outstanding. 250g steak and burger to follow. So juicy and tender served with unlimited chips; one basket was enough though! Staff were lovely and prices reasonable. Would definitely recommend. Chocker block so please book ahead.

The food was delicious, it was busy, and the waiters forgot a few things. They forgot my Fork discount. I emailed them, but only got one response. Now they haven't responded and haven't refunded my money. I'm disappointed with their customer service.

Last visited: October 2025 Classic Breakfast Scrambled eggs, bacon, croissant, bread, yogurt with red fruit, jam and butter I’ve been here twice now for breakfast. Consistent on what was delivered. Nice portion, just take a look at the picture. Service was good, warm and friendly. May try try lunch or dinner next time I’m in town.

The food was very good, both our meals were well prepared. Excellent beef and the haddock was nicely flavored. A small but good wine list was just fine. Our waiter was good and there were at least two others supporting him. They seemed very inexperienced - eager, helpful - but inexperienced. The space was decorated well in a holiday mode. I was disappointed in a couple who sat next to us, dumped their bags and coats on a seat and chatted for 2 hours and had a single coffee. I mean its a nice resto, not a coffee hangout. Any chance of an elegant meal was over. Additionally the toilets were very messy and weary, the dining area had more food on the floor than you might expect in what’s supposed to be a nice place. So, good food, good value, but management needs attention.

Had one of the best dining experiences ever! The food was absolutely delicious and every bite was perfect. The interior had such a cozy and stylish vibe, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Honestly, everything was on point. I’ll 100% be coming back!

The tournedos was top-notch. The knife flew through it, and the flavor was excellent. We'll put this restaurant on our list of places to return to.

The Ambience was a dream. The "Black" lives up to its name. The dark decor and the abundance of leather create a cozy atmosphere that invites you to linger. My buddy and I had breakfast here and were both extremely satisfied 😊. The coffee was also good, and despite the number of seats, it was very easy to have a good conversation. The staff were very courteous and placed great importance on guest satisfaction. All in all, a great restaurant with a large selection of dishes and drinks.

I had the best pancakes in all of Amsterdam here! They were absolutely perfect — the toast, the eggs, and everything else were really excellent. The food was truly top-notch. The only downside is the waiting time, since there’s really just one person working in the entire place. It’s also quite dark inside, a bit cramped, and pretty cold because the doors stay open and the wind blows through the café. But apart from that, the food is honestly amazing.

We had a truly fantastic meal yesterday. Beautiful dishes, delicious wine. We drank Primitivo and Pinot Grigio. The meat was wonderfully tender, including both steaks. The carpaccio and Burata salad were delicious. For dessert, we had the muffins and baklava sticks. Truly fantastic!

...sat outside today at 1:30 p.m. Until 2 p.m., none of the staff felt the need to take an order, even though only four tables were occupied. Guests went inside to pay because no one cared. Even after I asked inside if someone could take an order, nothing happened. Once and never again; there are plenty of alternatives within walking distance.

Loved my two visits to Restaurant Black! Delicious drinks, breakfast, and nachos. Modern inside, sunny canal-side seating outside, and the staff were friendly every time I went — perfect spot in Amsterdam!

Was not expecting to have 4 pieces of tuna of 10-20 grams in total for 17 eur. I had tuna tataki before but so less I never had. And super small oyster. And having second oyster differently served with no lemon.

Quant cafe with good views of the canal and great food. How can you go wrong with unlimited fries (with every entre) I had the catch of the day - Dorado - which was perfectly prepared. Add this spot to your list to visit.

Black is a little gem right on Prinsengracht. In an otherwise touristy section of Amsterdam, this place has exceptional food and the staff is super friendly and engaged without being overly attentive. The view is beautiful and your steps away from some charming meandering.

One of my highlight meals of my visit from Los Angeles. Service was kind and helpful. Drinks were made well. Sat by the water outside. Had the classic burger and eggs Benedict. Both were made well by LA standard aha. Thank you 🙌

Whilst visiting Amsterdam, we had breakfast at Restaurant Black. We had beautiful meals wonderful coffee and found the staff lovely. Would recommend their Classic Breakfast and Eggs Florentine, both superb. Tea and coffee came with complimentary macorons.

Food mediocre and service very disappointing. Ordered 2 burgers each that technically comes with fries. On one, asked to replace normal fries with sweet potato fries which is not allowed but salad was (fine). So ordered a side of sweet potato fries instead but they refused to bring any normal fries for the other burger. Mind boggling that paid for the extra side but then refused to bring a side that comes with the meal as a standard.

Exorbitant prices. Sure, we're in Amsterdam, but more than €4 for a tiny, cold drink of only 20cl is way too much. At that price, you'd expect to get at least 25 or 33cl...

Terrible experience!! We were among the very first to arrive for dinner and placed our order right away. We waited 45 minutes for our food — and we only ordered fish and a burger. People who arrived much later than us had already eaten, paid, and left while we were still waiting. The food turned out to be terrible. I don’t recommend this place.

A restaurant with seating inside or outside. We sat inside due to the chilliness of the evening. The decor inside was hip and an eclectic vibe. Leather and velvet seating with table or booth like seating with fun pillows of different fabrics and colors at the bench seats. Wooden beams on the ceiling, brass lighting with shades on the wall with bohemian looking ceiling lights. Walls adorned with pretty wall paper and wainscoting. 😎 After being seated, we had a reservation, it did take a little while to get our drinks ordered. I believe it was lack of staff. I felt like there were two taking orders, one food runner and the bartender. That being said, I requested a drink that wasn’t on the menu and a drink that isn’t difficult if the bar has the ingredients. I also like my drinks on the sweet side. Request was made and perfectly might I add; Peach Cosmopolitan 🍸. Our orders were taken and food brought out in a timely manner and prepared to perfection. Tuna tataki for starter, dinner was tenderloin of black angus & cooked mussels. An excellent cup espresso ☕️ to finish our dinner. The servers were a little on the cool side at first but I feel as though it was due to be overwhelmed with customers outside with running in and out constantly fulfilling drink orders. The service was fine once our meal orders were placed. Staff seemed to warm up after they seemed less overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the drinks, food and atmosphere …… even the service as long as the restaurant as workers to fulfill the load of customers.

The service team is very unmotivated and does not pay attention to us. When we wanted to pay, she said in a snippy tone, "Yes, I'm coming." Then we were ignored for 15 minutes until she said again in a snippy tone that we had to pay up front. While all the guests were waiting, the two service staff were talking to each other and the floor was very wet, really wet, puddles of water.

I order a burata and steak tartar as starter and main the 250g steak,was definitely amazing. I had a great experience also people working there was very friendly.

We had to pay €25 to pee and only got one burger. The whole atmosphere was terrible. The service was rude, and the employees kept complaining about how little they were paid. Don't go there if you want a fun night out.

Delicious food, undoubtedly the best burgers in town, and enthusiastic staff. One point of attention could be keeping the street clean. Unfortunately, the city doesn't do that, so "we" have to do it together. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere here is great, and the service is even greater. I had a very good hamburger where the meat was cooked exactly to my requested doneness. The presentation was also beautiful, making the meal even more enjoyable.

We are super happy and highly recommend this place! We came as a group of 8, and everyone knows how hard it can be to find a table for a large group in the city. They welcomed us with big smiles and gave us a great table. The service was outstanding—always with a smile and incredibly kind! Especially the blond guy (unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name), who was amazing. Each of us had special requests for food, and everything was handled perfectly. The wine was excellent too! We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and they even brought out a cake with a firework—such a wonderful touch! THANK YOU SO MUCH for this lovely evening!

Update and downgrade :( I went there today looking forward to the fresh, off-the-grill cheeseburger I had last time. It was awful. Prepackaged, pressed mystery meat. It's a disgrace for a €25 burger. This time the service was great, the Spanish rosé delicious and the fries just as good. The terrace was just as nice. It was a beautiful day and I got lucky and sat on the terrace by the canal. Beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised by the cheeseburger, straight from the grill, and the crunchy fries. The Verdejo was a little acidic, though. The service was a little chaotic and very slow at the beginning. It got better once I got my food, though.

Wir saßen draußen mit Blick auf die Graacht und die vielen vorbeifahrenden Boote. Die ausgesuchten Muscheln waren ein Traum, ich habe selten so leckere Muscheln gegessen. Man sitzt hier wunderbar und hat alles im Blick. Der Service ist schnell und freundlich. Am nächsten Tag sind wir nochmals hergekommen, weil es uns so gefallen hat.

Dropped in for two americanos and sat overlooking the canal. The server was very welcoming and jolly. She served up two lovely coffees and complimentary macarons. All for €7.

Small portions for fairly high prices. The service is friendly and fairly fast, but they always try to sell you more (8 euro bottle of water instead of tap water and a bottle of wine instead of two glasses). Personally I found this unpleasant and pushy.

The ribeye steak was on point, the meat was just right. I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

The food was fantastic and the service simply excellent! My friends, who are proper meat eaters, had steaks and lobster and I ordered the vegetarian option and we were all mind blown. The delicious dessert was just the cherry on top! The food was so good that we couldn’t stop ordering more. Highly recommend it and will definitely come back! (we forgot to take pictures as we were focusing so much on eating)

Bediening VRESELIJK, lang heel lang wachten tot er iemand kwam. Tijdens ons verblijf verbazing over het groeiende aantal vieze niet afgeruimde tafels. Bediening kijkt niet naar je om.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant, but the service was terrible. The waiter was unfriendly — maybe not all of them are like that, but unfortunately that’s who we got. It felt like it would’ve been easier to serve ourselves, bringing our own food and cutlery.

The steak was tasty, and there was a generous portion of fries. The location by the canal is pleasant, and the service was friendly. Beer was cold — always a plus. Nothing particularly stood out as a highlight, but there’s nothing to criticize either. Prices are typical for Amsterdam — not exactly cheap — but with a discount app, it turned out to be a pretty good deal.

Locale molto carino nei pressi del centro, peccato per le ostriche josper non disponibili perché le volevamo provare. Personale gentile, ma servizio lento. Buone le capesante, ma non abbiamo capito le due fette di salame. Ok tataki di tonno buono, ma troppo ridotto. Hamburger vegetariano buono, ma non speciale. Mancavano secondo noi delle buone verdure griglie che avrebbero dato la spinta giusta. Vino senza personalità. Quindi tutto buono e accettabile, ma ci aspettavamo qualcosa in più. Qualità prezzo nella media, anche con lo sconto the fork che è bene ricordare al momento del conto
