The servers are rude and impatient, the food is VERY expensive (which isn’t the main problem) the food tasted awful. Cheapest tomatoes and burrata I have ever had, and worst scallops i’ve ever eaten. The cherry on top, the waitress was very rude and disrespectful.

The ribeye steak is absolutely incredible with the butter creating the perfect blend of juicy and tenderness. The bruschetta was delicious with a perfect blend of flavors.

A small bistro in the heart of Amsterdam, along the canals, the menu is typically bistro-style with a vaguely French influence. The location was particularly pleasant for the canal view and the young, lively atmosphere.

We decided to stop in while staying at the Andaz a block away. A great decision. Our servers were so personable and efficient and the food was excellent. We sat in the window seat to watch the sights. We Plan on stopping her fot breakfast. Wish we lived closer. But Kentucky is our home.

Everything was great. The food, the drinks, the staff, the atmosphere... on point. Highly recommend you go there, you won't be disappointed.

We had a delicious meal and the staff were friendly. The service was prompt, we never had to wait long for our order, and they always consulted with us about when we wanted our next course.

Great food and amazing service!

Even as a kid, this place really got to my heart, I felt like a new man with their food. I recommend their mussels because it’s majestic and a great serving size and truly has a meaningful purposes when eating. And even if you don’t feel like you can eat all of it, it’s a great snack to share to some friends. This is the first restaurant I’ve been in from getting in Amsterdam and I truly recommend this to all the people. This atmosphere that they have going on is incredible. They got some playback music going in the background and every seat is nice and cozy. Hope all of the next people who come here have a similar stay as myself.

Tremendous food, excellent (and charming!) service. The haddock was the best dish I've had in Europe, and the unlimited fries are like BOOM! Awesome place with amazing atmosphere.

We sat outside, very nice and comfy sofa. Very good service from the girl with curly hair. She was very polite, in a good mood, nice and helpful! Good food, and the icecream is fantastic! Only thing I would say is the bathroom was very hot, but it was peak summer weather.

Really nice place! I had a date here about six months ago, and the evening went smoothly. It took a little while for us to get our menus and food, but other than that, the staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Overall, a great experience!

We’ve been to this restaurant twice now and it’s a definite yes for each time we now visit Amsterdam. We generally do brunch here and the portions are big so we often share something. The atmosphere is lovely, nice music and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit

We found this restaurant on our final evening in Amsterdam, such a shame we didn’t find it earlier. Service was great and the guy was extremely nice and polite. Food was absolutely delicious and all three of us cleared our plates. The atmosphere was great too and prices were reasonable. Certainly recommend. Five Stars

The server guy was a nice fella - the girl was not particularly friendly; ordered the burger- meat was good but it came with a burnt (not char, burnt) brioche bun that affected the flavor; fries were decent, with mayo. Side salad was overdressed and difficult to eat due to the bowl size- it kept spilling out of the bowl, and you have no idea what’s in it at the bottom. The wait staff never returned to check on me, and in fact had to get up and find the waiter for my check. Fairly average overall, but they do have an area with tables next to the canal that’s nice if you’re here for drinks.

An amazing restaurant. A super pleasant atmosphere with top-notch service! Friendly, kind, and incredibly attentive. They speak Spanish, English, German, Dutch, and French. We were able to bring our dog in for dinner, and they even brought him some water. The food was delicious. High quality in every aspect. 100% recommended!!

We had reserved a table for four people; upon arrival, we were seated at a high table where cardboard boxes were placed under the bench/half in front of our feet, a power strip was pulled sideways, and the table wobbled. Since we were meeting clients and, despite our reservation, were not offered another table, we left the restaurant immediately.

This restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere and serves cocktails that are definitely worth trying. We had a good dinner, but the ribeye steak we ordered rare was actually overcooked. The unlimited fries took a while to arrive at the table. As for the service, we had a charming and helpful waiter.

Had a lovely time sitting by the window, quick and friendly service. Nice quiet atmosphere, it was quiet.

Just imagine going out for dinner with two girlfriends, ordering a bottle of wine, two entrecôtes, and the fish of the day, and then, before your girlfriends can finish their food, the bill is slammed down on the table with the remark "your reservation has ended, you must pay and vacate the table," followed immediately by another waiter with the card machine. Unbelievable. No "apologies for the inconvenience," no concern for time management or table occupancy (there were several other tables available where we could have sat, for example). It was only because I called the waitress back over and pressed her on what was going on that we received an explanation along the lines of "yes, I understand, it happens quite often, but it is two hours later now and we have to vacate the table," and only when I pointed out that nothing was mentioned on the website or in the reservation regarding a time limit did an apology finally come out. We had to ask ourselves if we could take our glasses and food outside to sit there for the rest of the meal (and honestly, to recover from feeling overwhelmed). We received the unfriendly response: "Yes, you do have to bring your own glasses, because I won't remember to bring them." And they never brought the food outside for us. Unbelievable for a restaurant of this caliber. It really isn't the same as before; some young gentleman is the new manager here now, and I'm not coming back. Last year was top-notch, but now you get seated outside in the middle of the main course. And once outside, we counted the tables inside every now and then; we could easily have stayed seated. Or could it be because my friends didn't speak Dutch, nor are they? -Yuck.

Great restaurant. Stylish and very friendly service. The seating is a bit close together, which makes it a little noisy at times. But you can still have a good conversation. Not recommended for noise-sensitive people in the evenings. The meat was excellent, and we loved the original side dishes.

We went here 3-4 times already as get 50% discounts from the forks. I like environment even it a bit too small. Just feel drop a bit last time visit as get table close with kitchen and bin (a bit too noise) and my stack cook a bit too much.

Wow!!! What a good choice for dinner tonight!! Amazing food - oysters and olives to start- A delicious dinner of Haddock in papillote and Mussels- the mussels were so delicious with the broth and vegetables and such a generous portion !! side order of seasonal vegetables and the crispiest fries - perfect!!! Our server Gonzalo was professional, personable and SO busy as the restaurant filled up! Never missed a beat!! Really recommend this place for dinner!!

Incredible place. Great cuisine, service and presentation of the dishes. We visited the place after making a reservation, and we were seated inside, but there are tables outside, with a view of the canal, I guess for cocktails and drinks. Quite a good location, in the city center, but it is in a quiet and peaceful street. The salads and the main course are great - tender veal and incredibly well-cooked fish, great wine. The most delicious ending to the dinner was the chocolate crumble, which is one of the best I have ever tried. I highly recommend it.

Very tight, difficult to push between tables.

The food was good, but the service was disastrous. We were seated at a table in the middle of the aisle, while several tables for two were available in better locations. When we asked for another table, we were refused because it was reserved (we had also made a reservation, and they arrived more than an hour later). So we were left in a draft, and to top it off, we had sauce spilled all over our clothes and coats by a waitress—a great way to start our trip.

We booked a table through a fork app to use our points. The waiters were very nice, but they all seemed new and didn't know what the app was. They were talking loudly on the platform, which made us uncomfortable. We ordered two drinks and appetizers and left. The total came to only about 3 euros, which was very cheap, but a little awkward. The bread was a bit dry, but the mulled wine was delicious.

We took seat outdoor the view was beautiful and memorable. It was Dec month chilling outside sitting under the heated umbrella outdoor seating. The small boats 🛶 passing by. Running water sound. The staff were friendly.

A very welcoming restaurant on the Prinsengracht canal. Dark decor (as per the name, "Black"), now decorated in a Christmas theme. Not many tables, but we had a window seat, a lovely view of the Prinsengracht and the comings and goings of people. Lunch included perfectly cooked Angus beef burgers, one with cheddar and one with blue cheese. Plenty of fries, beer, and cider. Really fair prices. We'll definitely be back; in fact, we're going back next Saturday! ;)

Sabi and Elle really made the evening special. If you’re in Amsterdam and want great food, great drinks, and even better service, I’d definitely recommend Black.

We had a table right in the aisle. That was a bit disappointing.

Great location (comfortable benches in the sun on the gracht, amazing), but while the waiters were nice the service was very slow and the food was mediocre (and expensive). I had the club sandwich for €17,95 and only one half had sauce, the other was super dry. I arrived a little after 12:40, it was busy but not full, and it took until after 13:00 for them to take my order and until around 13:20 for the food to come. All in all would not really recommend.

I want to share my experience here because transparency is important. The restaurant approached me asking for a positive review in exchange for money. This feels to me like they're trying to "buy" people to paint a better picture than reality. This way of treating customers doesn't instill any trust in me. If a business truly offers quality, it doesn't need paid or fake reviews. Everyone can decide for themselves where they want to eat, but my experience with their review communication was truly disappointing and extremely unprofessional. That's why I feel it's only right to share this with others.

Pleasant atmosphere but very noisy, even with a small number of guests. Small menu, average quality. The service is very amateurish and pays little attention to the guests. The drinks menu includes various beers on tap and in bottles. None of the latter are available!

Arrived early for our table and despite restaurant being full could not have been more accommodating. Had bruschetta and prawns from the Josper to start. Both outstanding. 250g steak and burger to follow. So juicy and tender served with unlimited chips; one basket was enough though! Staff were lovely and prices reasonable. Would definitely recommend. Chocker block so please book ahead.

The food was delicious, it was busy, and the waiters forgot a few things. They forgot my Fork discount. I emailed them, but only got one response. Now they haven't responded and haven't refunded my money. I'm disappointed with their customer service.

Last visited: October 2025 Classic Breakfast Scrambled eggs, bacon, croissant, bread, yogurt with red fruit, jam and butter I’ve been here twice now for breakfast. Consistent on what was delivered. Nice portion, just take a look at the picture. Service was good, warm and friendly. May try try lunch or dinner next time I’m in town.

The food was very good, both our meals were well prepared. Excellent beef and the haddock was nicely flavored. A small but good wine list was just fine. Our waiter was good and there were at least two others supporting him. They seemed very inexperienced - eager, helpful - but inexperienced. The space was decorated well in a holiday mode. I was disappointed in a couple who sat next to us, dumped their bags and coats on a seat and chatted for 2 hours and had a single coffee. I mean its a nice resto, not a coffee hangout. Any chance of an elegant meal was over. Additionally the toilets were very messy and weary, the dining area had more food on the floor than you might expect in what’s supposed to be a nice place. So, good food, good value, but management needs attention.

The Ambience was a dream. The "Black" lives up to its name. The dark decor and the abundance of leather create a cozy atmosphere that invites you to linger. My buddy and I had breakfast here and were both extremely satisfied 😊. The coffee was also good, and despite the number of seats, it was very easy to have a good conversation. The staff were very courteous and placed great importance on guest satisfaction. All in all, a great restaurant with a large selection of dishes and drinks.

I had the best pancakes in all of Amsterdam here! They were absolutely perfect — the toast, the eggs, and everything else were really excellent. The food was truly top-notch. The only downside is the waiting time, since there’s really just one person working in the entire place. It’s also quite dark inside, a bit cramped, and pretty cold because the doors stay open and the wind blows through the café. But apart from that, the food is honestly amazing.

We had a truly fantastic meal yesterday. Beautiful dishes, delicious wine. We drank Primitivo and Pinot Grigio. The meat was wonderfully tender, including both steaks. The carpaccio and Burata salad were delicious. For dessert, we had the muffins and baklava sticks. Truly fantastic!

Even after I asked inside if someone could take an order, nothing happened. Once and never again; there are plenty of alternatives within walking distance.

Loved my two visits to Restaurant Black! Delicious drinks, breakfast, and nachos. Modern inside, sunny canal-side seating outside, and the staff were friendly every time I went — perfect spot in Amsterdam!
