Bizarre experience, I was laughing and because of that my entire group of friends was not allowed to order anymore.

30 minutes before closing time, they refused to take my order. Horrible!

We were there 1 hour and 10 minutes before closing time. She refused to serve us and got very angry, even threatening to call people when we did not want to leave and just get our food. Very bad service.

The food is quite good, considering the price, but very greasy. I found the atmosphere lacking; it felt like a snack bar, and there were holes in the upholstery of one of the sofas.

After waiting for over fifteen minutes, I got up and left. I understand that it's busy and I have to wait a while, but when I came in, I asked if I could get something to eat. I was told, "Have a seat, someone will be with you soon," and no one came. Well, that's the end of it for me, too bad!

The food was delicious, though a little pricey. It was prepared quickly. The space was spacious and comfortable, and the owner was a kind man. Recommended.

Golden rule in the hospitality industry, but in my opinion, opening hours are opening hours. Twice now, I've had no more food from the grill after 8 pm. Such a shame because the burgers are really good!

Abysmal customer service. Doesn’t seem to be any health and safety standards. They served me the food with THEIR BARE HANDS, no gloves. I had to go to the counter for the menu and then to order, while others around me were seated and helped by the waitress. Other waiters were sitting around. Food was mid. Won’t be going back and absolutely do not recommend.

I had a delicious meal there, I can't say otherwise. Judging by the reviews, I was spoiled. I got plenty of spicy chicken, bread, and sauce 😋👍🏼

The place seemed clean. That was it. Arrives at 7:35pm. Told they could not make me a burger because they wanted to close fast. Only fries. Euro3.50 fries that would make a small McDonalds blush. But the worst part, a man came in after me, obviously a local, and they took an order for him. While darting looks in my direction. I do not need to make a scene but I will never eat here and encourage anyone who is not Anglo - origin, not to do the same. It was a great intro to Amsterdam.

Unfortunately, I've had several bad experiences at Cantarell recently. When the women behind the counter are the only ones working, you get generous portions, a friendly smile, and you feel welcome. But as soon as the older man arrives, everything changes completely: no greeting, no smile, and a downright rude way of dealing with customers. The contrast is truly striking and disturbing. I've been back several times now, hoping it might just be a bad day, but unfortunately, the pattern is always the same. What makes it even more disappointing is that you pay quite a bit for your food here. You expect not only quality and service, but also a decent amount on your sandwich. If that disappoints and you're also treated unfriendly, then it's simply not worth your money. P.S. The man isn't exactly friendly to his colleagues either, and I quote: "Bring my coffee, where is it?"

Worst possible manners ever. Freaking bully and rude. I’m really amazed by how bad people can act while working in hospitality. I wouldn’t eat here again, if it was free.

When I lived in Amsterdam I used to go to snack bar Cantharell. It was a snack bar that was open until late, because taxi drivers could eat there until late at night. Nowadays it is also a brasserie and only open until 9 pm. I recently rediscovered Cantharell as a place where I can eat quick and tasty meals before going to Carré for a show. Whether it is the spicy chicken dish or a meal salad, the food here is really good. Tasty and a lot! You leave satisfied.

Great place that, as mentioned, is a bit more luxurious than a snack bar but still affordable. They rightly call hot chicken their specialty Only downside: fries sauce and no mayonnaise!? Addendum: too expensive, too small portions

Delicious food for a great price

There are no prices displayed on the large signs in the store. When I asked, I was given an outdated menu with old prices and the order worth €9.50 on the menu became €10.50 when I paid. When I said something about this, I was met with an unsympathetic response: ‘It’s an old menu’, without any further apology or compensation. When I indicated that I did not think this was fair business, the option was either the order or my money back. The latter was my choice, mainly due to the extremely unsympathetic attitude of the staff.

Good people work here, but restaurant needs more to serve that amount of people

I stopped in here for a quick bite thinking I’d get a snack but I was in for more, the Frikandel special just woah… insanely good. And the staff was really nice.

Cheap, but laughably bad. The woman behind the counter doesn't see you, so you just have to make do with the one drink you managed to score, and it's also super unfriendly when paying. The owner stands behind the bar drinking all evening, super antisocial guy, can't say hello. Shamefully bad tent, what a shame

For the second time and so came back. A beautiful and cozy place for an evening of easy and quick dining. Idea to eat here before visiting the theater, for example. Service is not always flawless, but the food is great and the seating is cozy!

Super tasty (and spicy) hot chicken sandwich, nice guys!

The last time I come here!! Had an unpleasant experience at this store. The gentleman behind the counter who is always there is very grumpy and unfriendly. I've been through this before and forced myself to go again today. But this was the last time. I got a meager sandwich with little meat, little sauce and also cold satay sauce. It's a waste of €8.50 for me, whatever it may cost in one. Sandwich was worth maybe €3.50. - Unfriendly staff. - Poor quality rolls. - Little for a lot of money. - Unclear prices.

We went here for something to eat before the evening performance in Carré. The initial welcome was a bit abrupt, we were handed menus and were able to choose a table. Then we were helped by an extremely friendly lady. Due to a large group of diners, ordering a second round of drinks took a little longer. The quality of the food was excellent, as was the quantity, we all had a burger menu and of the 4 people, only 1 could eat everything. Delicious burgers, great fries. Ambience is a bit simple, but for a 4 star experience you pay a lot more. Definitely recommended for the price!

Ordered 2 fries with mayo this afternoon, there are no prices on the plates, but I had to pay €8.70. I now see on the website that it should have been €6.80, which is a bit of a shame

I would describe this place as a snack bar de luxe. I had a chicken sandwich and it was yuge and cheap. The staff was super nice as well. Gonna come again definitely!

Ir/Madam, I would like to express my dissatisfaction about an extremely unpleasant experience I recently had in your business. After ordering and paying for a panini with spicy chanterelles and a Spa red, I was offered a panini that was already in the display case and clearly did not look fresh. To my surprise, this was also partly broken. After waiting about 15 minutes I received the panini, which was now hard and dry. The content was tasteless and not at all as expected. What was even more annoying, however, was the way I was subsequently treated. When leaving the store, an employee wrongly chased me and accused me of not paying for my order. The tone and approach were disrespectful and inappropriate, as if I had done something improper. Even though I was able to clearly show him my payment confirmation on my phone, he continued to insist that the payment was not in his system. Much to my frustration, I was publicly embarrassed without receiving any apology for this accusation. I find this behavior unacceptable and not in line with the service one can expect. The worst restaurant I have ever seen in my life. 16.07.2024 (so today) at 17.09 we ordered chicken satay and tuna bread. After waiting 35 minutes, I asked where my order was. They thought they canceled the order I paid for without informing me, and when I asked they said the order was not for dinner or you will get a refund or a replacement. No apology, no shame, it seems like it's something very natural, it's not a friendly restaurant at all. I feel very sorry for myself for being in such a place. A restaurant I will never go to again.

What a disappointment after being a customer for so many years!!! Yes, it's a thing of the past, so from now on... after a long wait I get a beef burger menu instead of a chicken cheeseburger, then I get chicken without cheese and when I ask for it, it comes back with a slice of cheese and the fries from the wrong menu, they just put it back in the menu. thrown into the deep fryer so they were overcooked!!! And upon departure we also had to pay a euro for the mayonnaise mini container.... Then I make a comment to the owner or that man who I have known for 24 years that I had very bad service today... and guess what, he gives him a thumbs up and says very antisocial very good to hear!!! Ridiculous... what a strange comment and backward attitude... I will also inform and advise all my colleagues not to go there anymore!!! There was no apology... no words... I'm done.

Went out for dinner tonight with the three of us, never again. Fries with satay, no sauce to be seen, the pork tenderloin was dry and tough. The service didn't speak Dutch and didn't care about the guests. It is very expensive for little, if it is still good I can live with that, but it was really bad. Staff was rude.

Hygiene leaves much to be desired. Cutlery was given, which was too dirty to pick up. We then received our order and the fries came with sauce with hair in it. Indicated that there is hair in the sauce, this was also unmissable. The employees did nothing with the report. The hot meat sandwiches were also cold.

A cosy place that can be described as somewhere in between a snack bar and a diner. You can get some typical dutch snacks at the counter or sit down to order a full meal. We had the burger menu's with fries and the food was pretty nice and affordable.

Very good quick lunch with good quality of food

Normally very good food. But after a large order, panic struck. While we paid for the entire order, we received 2/3. After we tried to call several times, we got someone on the phone for the order in question. We got a strange response (pie dick? And then hang up). We are absolutely not satisfied. Very unfortunate about this tent.

We came in at 7:45 pm to eat. All display cases were empty and everything was tidied up and cleaned. Originally open until 9pm. So we could order little or nothing anymore. The gentleman who helped us also appeared to have a form of total disinterest. The hot chicken sandwich was fantastic. Shame.

Unfortunately a bad experience, new staff without proper guidance, which caused everything to go wrong and fries with lamb which turned out to be a kapsalon version with lamb stew that probably came from the freezer, making the meat bone dry. My table companion had the pork tenderloin satay with fries, which was also inedible and went back to the kitchen, after which a slightly better portion came back. Unfortunately, this visit was not a success, perhaps a hamburger would have been a safer choice......

This business has been taken over and has deteriorated dramatically. Very unfriendly and disinterested staff. Make a lot of mistakes, often smells like sewage. Treat customers unfriendly when you confront them with their own mistakes (experienced and seen by other customers). Every restaurant's hot chicken sandwich tastes different and is dry.

Bad service, very dry, watery chicken satay, not suitable for business lunches as they advertise, paying separately is not possible.

This might be the best chicken burger I've ever had.

You really shouldn't call it a snack bar. It's much more than that. The quality of food in particular is significantly higher. I was with a flexitarian, vegetarian and a vegan. We all had a delicious meal.

Vandaag patat en een burger besteld. Heel flauw doordat het is overgenomen je een stuk minder patat krijgt (iig bij een burger menu) en je betaalt ook meer. Als je een grote eter bent is het niet genoeg. Het smaakte wel zoals voorheen.

I can't say enough good things! The food was so delicious, the young lady that served us was friendly and realized we spoke English and provided the English menus to us. I had the fries topped with steak meal - it was seasoned to perfection and the best meal I've had in weeks! Per the other reviewers, it is not a fancy restaurant, but it is friendly, relaxed, and delicious. Thanks for our fantastic experience!!
