Second time I’ve been here and certainly not the last. The food is excellent, the ingredients are chosen carefully and prepared to perfection. I wanted to lick every plate clean. Staff is kind en knowledgeable. Good wine selection and also interesting non alcoholic beverages. I can’t recommend this place enough! Definitely worth the price, especially compared to other restaurants in Amsterdam.

I had a fantastic experience at Remouillage! It's a small but cozy place, staffed by just the chef and his assistant. Both are very friendly and ready to answer any questions. I'm not an expert on wine, but they let me try several options and choose my favorite. I didn't know the menu beforehand, and each dish was a mystery, but the staff explained every ingredient and preparation method in meticulous detail. Not a single dish left me indifferent; each had its own unique charm. Overall, everything was wonderful—the atmosphere, the service, the presentation, and the food. I hope to return again if I'm ever in Amsterdam again.

My favourite dining experience I’ve had in Amsterdam. The atmosphere was brilliant - it felt like I was being served in a friend’s home. The server was lovely and the chef would come out every now and then to serve us our dishes. He always seemed genuinely happy when we told him how much we enjoyed the food. 10/10. If you have the cash to spend on a nice dinner, spend it here.

I wanted to like this restaurant so badly…The idea, decor, service, vibe, even the wine is perfect. Throughout the night we had exotic ingredients with simple flavor. Nothing wowed us, would have given four stars if it wasn’t for the mains, which were particularly disappointing. The cauliflower mushroom served with halibut was so greasy it completely overwhelmed the dish. They would have been better off serving it separately, it was a shame because the cut of fish was beautiful. The chicken dish tasted like something you can easily make from a instant pot and is flavored like the chinese medicine. At this price point I would expect the restaurant to be more original, instead of relying solely on exotic level of the ingredients to carry the show. I do also want to acknowledge that the menu changes, and we could have just been there on a bad day. Unfortunately for me, the first experience will not inspire for a second visit.

The concept is that the chef makes what he wants with the customers' enjoyment in mind. Your job is simply to relax and enjoy amazing and unique recipes in a relaxing environment with top-notch service. This place should have at least one Michelin star, if not more. We had a truly spectacular time. I am looking forward to returning.

One of the nicest dinners I had in a while, the staff was very kind and you can feel the effort they put into creating a beautiful experience for the guests. The food was delicious! simple but good quality ingredients presented in a creative way.

We tried the regular menu and every plate was as delicious as particular. The originality and contrast of flavours, still using simple ingredients, were incredible! We loved the atmosphere, its vintage decorations and plant and the friendliness of the waiter and chef, who was serving himself too. Last but not least, I had two delicious alcohol free wines, not that easy to find!

i had the privilege of dining here with my dear friend on out last night in the city, and it was truly magical you can see the love and dedication put into it and the food was beyond delicious, the chef was beyond welcoming. i was amazed to see how he had invited a guest into the kitchen to see how things were made ! (the guest was also a chef) just the absolute love and dedication to the art ! (late review from february sorry ! 😓) the chefs were kind enough to let me take their picture but sadly it didn’t come out great !

I absolutely loved both the food and the atmosphere! Simplicity is one of my life mottos, and it was truly inspiring to be in a place that lives and breathes it—especially in the world of fine dining. Every bite was a joy, with perfectly balanced spices that made each dish memorable. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the whole experience. I’ll definitely be coming back on my next trip to Amsterdam!

I've been here every time I'm in Amsterdam after being introduced to it by a local friend. The dinners are incredibly tasty, even with things I wouldn't normally order. I've never had a bad dish here. To top it off, the wine is always on point, and the service can't be beat. I'm not a fancy restaurant person as most are overpriced and pretentious. Here I get a fancy meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Remouillage is my go to recommendation for anyone visiting the city.

Probably the best food I have ever had in Amsterdam. This chef knows his flavours, he knows that less is more, he is a magician with few ingredients. You don't get to choose, he cooks and you eat. The service is outstanding, the tastes and flavours insane, I wanted to lick my plate so many times. I will come back.

I was utterly amazed at the flavor plays (and, most importantly, how delicious) in all of the dishes. Each course's ingredients are distinct, yet when paired together, they create a whole new flavor that surprises you. Each course also works well with the next course, taking you on this flavor journey that Chef Jonathan created. A lot of thought and consideration were also put into the wine pairing recommendations with the courses (they even let you taste it to see if you like the wine before the full glass!). Chef Jonathan and his staff were integral to this journey, from friendly banter to serious food discussions (and even recommendations for tourist spots!). They truly made this a gastronomical experience like no other! The phrase on the wall best summarizes my experience here at Cafe Remouillage: "Es ist wie es ist" (it is what it is). This also corresponds to Cafe Remouillage's motto: complex simplicity, less is more. If you are in Amsterdam and flavor experiences is your thing (or if you’re curious to find out), you MUST visit this gem!

Never ate here but sat with a few glasses and it was the most beautiful, period. Can’t wait to dine it shan’t disappoint I am sure of it. The vibes on the outside flowerbeds are rather implacable. Would certainly recommend this place without even having had a meal - and my intuition is splendid.

I wish we could give more than 5 stars! We were so pleasantly surprised by the warm and wonderful service at Remouillage. We visited on a Thursday and had the special treat of the chef coming out to speak with us a few times and even personally present a dish. (Our server was also fantastic—kind, funny, and attentive!) I wasn’t feeling 100% that day, so we didn’t stay as long as we would’ve liked, but the environment felt so welcoming—it’s the kind of place where you really want to linger. The atmosphere was inviting, the food was absolutely fantastic, and the wine selection was spot-on. Highly recommend.

There is no other restaurant like Remouillage in Amsterdam - and not many like it anywhere really. The food is incredibly creative and tasty; always seasonal, exciting, and unexpected. The pairings on the plate are simple and work in expected and unexpected ways. The wine and non-alcoholic drinks are excellent - and really well-considered for why they are on the menu or being recommended for a particular dish. The location and decor is as simple as the rest of the concept. And it works in the same ways. Nicely away from the bustle but accessible and snug in the neighbourhood, just how it feels. And the finally, there's the atmosphere and "vibe" - this is where Remouillage stands head and shoulders above any other. Jonathan and whoever might be helping is always warm, friendly, and welcome. He explains the concept and what's happening in front of you, as well as shooting the breeze - all while keeping everything ticking over. This is why so many people feel like you're dropping in on family or friends for some grub - it just happens to be top class at that. Remouillage is somewhere to come to, leave your shit elsewhere, and enjoy yourself.

The service/ chef was very warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself also creates a nice warm setting. The food itself was unfortunately a miss. I understand that with this style of menu will speak to some more than others, nonetheless I found many dishes bland and overall not exciting.

A lot of hype and expectations about this place, but with the experience we had i personally just don't understand. We were greeted next to the curtain covered door and the waitress said the only table for two was by the door, it wasn't the only table, there was a table in the corner that remained free for the 3 1/2 hours we were there getting cold through the draft coming through the poorly fitted door and curtains. However this place is famous for its food. So i was more than willing to get cold knees for amazing food. Now it may be down to the for mentioned cold knees, but i found there to be lots of cold/tepid temperatures to the food throughout the experience with a few dishes feeling like they were plated hours before, very little bite or crunch throughout. The sweet potato dessert was starchy and had lost all its sweetness split/set consistency why not just make . The strangest thing was the wine pairing. We were told the wine pairing is down to us and what we like, so i asked well what will we be eating and she couldn't tell me because it's all a surprise. If i am coming along with you on a tasting menu experience, and i am then upsold a wine pairing i would really like you to pair the wine with the food. There is obvious skill and hospitality in this place, I don't know if we caught it on a bad night maybe. When we booked we were asked what the occasion was so i told them it was our anniversary, this was an opportunity to create a nice moment, it was forgotten. On the whole i was a little disappointed given the price.

was excited to try this restaurant but we were really disappointed... the food was quite uncreative, generally not great & often over salted (and I love salt). the service was nice but it also took a really long time in between meals & to get our plates picked up when we were done. unfortunately wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Tuvimos un menú de 7 platos - todos platos pequeños, comida simple, muy sabroso. El propietario, que está cocinando y sirviendo al mismo tiempo, es súper amable y muy apasionado por su comida. No es un bocado rápido: pasamos un gran 3 . 5 horas para la cena de 7 platos; no es frecuente que un restaurante esté feliz de tenerte durante tanto tiempo. Absolutamente recomendable.

Cozy restaurant by Jonathan Sparber. Reception super friendly. Service by "the boss" himself together with a friendly waitress. We had the 6 course menu under the motto: it doesn't have to be much, but it does have to be very tasty. Well, that was true. Dishes were unknown, but were served course by course with a detailed explanation of what the dish consisted of. We had two vegetarians, two omnivores and a fish eater. It was all no problem for Jonathan. He'll make something of it. And he made it special with home-made oils and sauces. Absolutely great. Matching wine pairing was also no problem.

Great restaurant. No fixed menu, but the chef (who does everything single-handedly!) offers you a parade of new and adventurous flavors. Tough, sometimes experimental dishes that revolve around taste and texture. He will work with you to find matching natural wines (which I am honestly not a big fan of, but it worked here). Recommended!

Remouillage is a special restaurant. You enter the world of chef Jonathan. With the motto complex simplicity you get a parade of dishes that look simple at first glance, but are so special in terms of taste, it's just right. These are not standard dishes, perhaps not for everyone, but certainly for people who appreciate the refinement. There is also a special wine list, many small producers and almost everything natural wine. Although I'm not a big fan of that, I have had special, delicious wines here every time. The atmosphere is intimate and informal. You step into the world of chef Jonathan!

We werden gelokt door veel lovende reviews en de geweldige recensies in Parool en NRC uit 2018. Maar eigenlijk dachten we steeds: is dit alles? Geen aperitief, geen olijfje of iets anders tijdens het wachten. Wel één dikke flauwe droge klomp brood (leek op halfje witte knip) voor ons drieën bij de eerste gang. De vier gangen bestonden uit vier kleine hapjes, die samen qua hoeveelheid amper één gang vormden. Deze karigheid had nog gecompenseerd kunnen worden door culinaire verfijning, maar helaas: weinig variatie in textuur: pap-achtig en/of met plasjes olie. Idem voor smaak, behalve dat het 1e gerecht te flauw was (rauwe vis in olie en gestoofde paddestoel) en het 3e te zout: geplukte zoute eend - met eveneens zoute olijven erop. Geen bijgerechten, geen koffies, wel een bakje te hete filterkoffie met geklopte room. Rekening 210 voor 3 x het verrassingsmenu, een fles wijn en een koffie en thee. Kortom: best veel voor weinig. De gastheer-chef is heel sympathiek, net als het concept om alle delen van een dier of plant te gebruiken, maar het geheel pakte voor ons vrij vreugdeloos uit.”

I loved having dinner here. The menu was very tasty and never obvious. I was especially impressed with the raw fish and the use of different vegetables. I also really liked the wine and kombucha selection. Highly recommended

Had a lovely dinner with 11 people on their terrace. Great food, nice & personal service. Could maybe have been a bit quicker, but we wanted some slow dining (no shifts here), so that worked well for us!

Second time I visited remouillage since 4 years ago (moved out of Amsterdam a while ago). Still great food, possibly even better now than before. But above all very relaxed atmosphere and impeccable wine selection. Don't know where Jonathan manages to pull these bottles from but they are very distinct and absolutely delicious. Without a doubt 5 stars all over.

A hidden gem -- inventive, super flavorful dishes in a beautiful setting. They're serving dishes in ways that basically nobody in the city is. Go here for a spectacular meal at a great price before you try anywhere else in Amsterdam.

Onder de indruk van deze originele chef die met pure ingrediënten en bijpassende wijnen vrijwel iedere gang verrast. Oorspronkelijk en bijzonder, zonder opschmuk.

De prijs/kwaliteit was ver beneden de maat. Van de drie gedronken wijnen was er slechts één behoorlijk. De andere twee waren matig tot slecht à 10 euro per glas. De gerechten waren betrekkelijk eenvoudig, maar vooral: het was gewoon te karig. Ik ben met een niet eens half gevulde maag van tafel opgestaan. Geen aardappelgerecht, nauwelijks een korst brood (uitgedroogd). Ik heb me nog nooit zo bekocht gevoeld in een restaurant. En dat voor 85 euro per persoon. Echt slecht.

This is a place for those who take joy in and are excited/curious about food. It is the best restaurant in Amsterdam. The artichoke with hollandaise is the single greatest dish I have eaten in the Netherlands. Although one does not order by the menu here, but instead simply thoroughly enjoys what is prepared on that day (and that is truly how it ought to be), I was ecstatic that I got to try it again the second time I went. The care, knowledge, passion and skill of the owner and chef is made edible in the range and ingenuity of what is offered and how it is prepared. Incredible wines with minimum mark up. Amsterdam is lucky to have a restaurant like this. I am fortunate to have been twice and I really want to go again.

Best non Michelin starred restaurant I've ever been to. If you walk here, it's a bit of a trek from Amsterdam Central. You get farther and farther away from the city center and it feels less and less populated. Once we sat down, my god the experience was probably one of my favorite restaurants. How does it not have a Michelin star? We began with shredded clam. 🐚 Sounds weird, but it was similar to a very well seasoned oyster. Then moved onto an artichoke with butter. Right after finishing the artichoke, I said I wished I had bread to go along with it. 🥖 Within a few minutes, our waitress popped by with this amazing soft bread that absorbed the butter on the outside but left the inside fresh. Next up was a sea urchin. 🌊 We've tried sea urchin in London's Borough Market, but it was nowhere near as tasty as this one. Then we had a sort of cooked oyster? Not quite sure, but again - delicious. Leading up to our main course was this vegetable soup. 🥕 The main was a bird with mushrooms. 🍄 What we thought was the last dish was a mix of strawberries, cream, and raw peas. 🍓 Who thought raw peas would be good in a dish, but they cut the sweetness of the strawberry to give you a little crunch. We loved it so much, the chef gave us an extra course of caramelised eggplant (or 🍆 aubergine) the chef's creativity to make a vegetable into a dessert in this way was genius. We ended the night emptying 2 bottles of wine and 2 dessert wine glasses over 4 hours. Not a bad night. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those who are adventurous! Aside from food, both the waitress and the chef were so friendly! If I could give this restaurant 6 stars out of 5, I would. 🌟 Again, by FAR my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam and it is a top contender for my favorite restaurant of all... 🏆

Nothing but compliments to the chef and staff... Food was amazing, use of ingredients that I have never heard of. Sometimes there is a specific taste that we couldn't place, but the chef or staff were happy to explain. Will come back for sure.... Oh don't settle with the 4 course... go all the way for the 6 course surprise menu.... no regrets...

Verrassend lekkere, bijzondere en toch ook eenvoudige gerechten. Naast al dat lekkers zou ik ook terugkomen voor de gastvrijheid.
