Had a delicious burger at Bonnie's. Cozy place.

Until about two years ago, I really enjoyed visiting Bonnie's. I had several business meetings there and even celebrated my birthday there. However, over the past year and a half, we felt it had been declining. After this third chance, which unfortunately resulted in another bad experience, I felt it was time to write a review. The service was poor and unfriendly. After waiting for over 40 minutes, even though we had already been assigned a table, and having to ask for the menu three times, our order was finally taken. The starter was slammed onto the table without any attention. The main course then arrived an hour later and was cold, to boot. We also had to ask for the bill three times before it was finally brought. When I was asked if we had enjoyed the meal and honestly indicated that the food was cold, the waitress walked away immediately after the payment was completed. I really had a soft spot for this place.

Nice and friendly service. Very relaxed. We had a camembert with focaccia. And then the steak and a tuna steak. It was very good. Well cooked and both deliciously tender. Tiramisu to share. This is also very tasty. A nice start to enjoy ourselves further at the Amsterdamse Zomer. We will definitely be back.

Lovely atmosphere... good food. During our visit, however, there was a lot of noise, way past the level of pleasant chatting.

Had the best Caesar salad here in 2024 (first picture) for 16€, so when I visited Ams again I wanted to have the same experience. The menu was not in English so I did not check the ingredients, but saw it’s 18€ so naturally thought it had at least a bit of chicken since the price went up. Salad came with 4 baby sardines (second picture), zero chicken, so I don’t quite understand the price since you just removed a BIG ingredient 😃

smash burger was made with poor ingredients and not properly cooked, fries were even cold!!! Wine was expensive compared to the quality.... and noisy as hell

The place is very nice, have 2 beers. The only bad thing is that I was outside for 10 minutes and no one came to attend me, I had to go in and ask if anyone could leave to attend me. After that I was attended by a very sweet girl behind the bar.

Cozy place with a large comfortable terrace. We had signature burgers, and they were amazing.

We had dinner at Bonnie and overall it was a mixed experience. The food itself was actually pretty decent. We had a smash burger, pasta, Caesar salad, and a couple of desserts, and most dishes were enjoyable and well prepared. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely solid comfort food with good portions and nice presentation. Unfortunately, the service really hurt the overall experience. Everything moved extremely slowly throughout the evening. We asked two different staff members for ketchup and never received it, which kind of summed up the level of attentiveness during the meal. Desserts took a very long time to arrive, and even getting the bill felt like a challenge. Another downside was the atmosphere. The place was incredibly noisy, to the point where it was genuinely difficult to have a normal conversation at the table. While some people may enjoy the lively vibe, for us it felt more chaotic than energetic. So while the food was perfectly fine, the combination of slow service, lack of attentiveness, and very loud atmosphere made this not really our kind of place. Overall, an okay meal, but probably not somewhere we would return to.

Food gets very little for your money. The carpaccio was 4 slices, the steak 1 cube. The grains of salt meant you could barely taste the dish. The peppercorn sauce with the steak was a joke. Staff uninterested and cooks apparently insecure due to the amount of salt. I think the meat was fine, but served on a plate with gravy containing peppercorns and no garnish, it was also too salty. I pointed this out and the waitress asked what I wanted as a solution. I felt it was a waste of the meat to send it back. I asked if it could be served with less sauce. That worked out. See image. I always say: (A lot of salt on the dish means an insecure cook). Come here for a beer, but not for the food. P.S. Music is very loud in the dining area upstairs.

Express service, very bland food, I really don't recommend it!

Nice place, beautiful building and interior, service was okay, food was fine. The starter was very small but tasty. Main courses were delicious. The waitress did what she had to do, but that is about it. Not a smile to be seen, and sometimes missed the "is it to your liking" question. But anyway, she was probably busy... unfortunately, I couldn't really hear my company because the music was a bit too loud. Would definitely stop by for a drink!

Friendly staff and very nice atmosphere

Update May 2026 It was quite busy. Takes a while for your order to be taken. Food was there before the drinks, Fries were lukewarm. Food was oké but it used to be better. They expanded and not sure if that helps the quality. Also took a very long time for Coffee after the meal. 2024 Like this small bar/restaurant. Atmosphere is always good and the food is really good, better than I expected first time I was here. Morning, afternoon or diner - good place to go to. They were a bit short on staff but still all went smoothly and kept entire terrace open unlike other horeca in town. A must try for Amsterdam.

Dishes are large and flavorful. Plenty of dressing on the salad, plenty of chicken, and plenty of sauce on the fries. The staff is friendly, but it is very busy. As a result, you sometimes have to wait a long time. A carafe of water is always placed on the table; top-notch service! Overall, a great place for a pleasant lunch, especially on the terrace in nice weather!

Tasty, just a bit silly that fries and salad are served as a side dish... then it ends up being an expensive affair after all.

Very romantic and the clientele are stylish! I would say for the food that it’s really only the smash burgers that are well above par. The rest is a hit or miss. I had the dorade and it was very hurriedly plated and the portion was small, so I ordered extra fries to help satiate. I wouldn’t go for anything other than the burger.

I came here because the name caught my attention it reminded me of something else haha. The food was fantastic, the service was great, and I will definitely come back again.

Food was good but service is just terrible. Took a very long time to be served, we had to keep trying to get our waitress’ attention, vegetarian was given the meat burger and told it was vegetarian, and when we were trying to get the bill, all the staff were too busy eating at the kitchen! It wasn’t busy in the restaurant at all, so there was no reason for it to have been like this. Wouldn’t recommend even if the food is good.

The services was sooooo bad , we have been to this place on 3 x and each time its poor service. Everyone is too busy to help you or take your order , even when you order it’s a 20-25 min wait for a beer. The male bartender was just rude ….. if you like slow services and bad food then this is your place, there are way better place to go in this area then here

A cozy, busy place where you can enjoy sitting on the terrace in the sun. However, reservations are recommended, because Bonnie is booming right now! We started with a cup of mint tea and a glass of juice. Unfortunately, the mint tea was served without sugar or honey. After politely asking, this was forgotten due to the busyness, and I had to walk inside myself to ask again. The Amsterdam cookie with the three crosses that comes with it is a nice touch (although I would prefer it to be a bit bigger). Afterwards, we had a glass of wine, a cola, the smashburger with fries, and a club sandwich with fries. The smashburger was really top-notch! Flavorful and well-prepared. The club sandwich was unfortunately disappointing. I had ordered truffle fries instead of regular fries, but according to the waitress, this wasn't possible with the club sandwich because it is one dish on a plate. Interestingly enough, "the neighbors" next to us were served a club sandwich with truffle fries shortly afterwards. Additionally, the sandwich was quite sparsely filled... relatively a lot of toast and little filling, which made the whole thing a bit disappointing. And undercooked bacon, or was it ham... meh. Then, they also forgot to give us our change, even though we had already calculated a tip on the bill. All in all, a cozy place with a nice atmosphere, but due to the crowds, a few mistakes were made here and there.

2 of us had the avocado toast and we both experienced it as totally tasteless. Ate just a bit of it because we were hungry but we never thought that something that is by itself usually tasty, could be so tasteless. We asked for a sauce or something like sriracha to try to make it better and received sweet chilly, which is even worse. It took so long before we could take the attention of staff to actually place our food order and as we stayed attentive to catch their attention with hand gestures, the girl who took our order had a very annoyed atitude with us. We had a good time by ourselves despite all the negative energies and bad food and experience. Would not recommend this place for food or service. It is nice for its terrace and cozyness. Also price quality, not worth it.

Shakshuka is horrible, a combination of tomato sauce and oil (in equal measure)

Fantastic experience! The Egg Atlantic sandwich is excellent, truly delicious. The smash burger is also a real treat, with high-quality ingredients 👌 Special mention for the decor, modern and stylish, which makes the place incredibly pleasant. The service is top-notch: fast, welcoming, and attentive. A great place that I highly recommend, whether for brunch, lunch, or simply to have a good time!

This is the place to hang out and meet friends in amstelveenseweg. Great music. Cool outdoor area and extra seating oasis. It’s so cute. Drinks are fancy. Great alcohol free options. I ate there once and it was alright. More a drinks venue.

Hidden Reed Jewel, the carrot cake is outstanding, a very pleasant cafe, the staff are quick and very polite, the food is delicious, it gets nicely crowded at lunchtime, the customer profile is high-quality people. Try it, you won't regret it, I recommend it. Thank you…

Friendly waitress, the beefsteak was overpriced. For that price, you expect a bit more.

I came here specifically for the smash burger and the truffle fries, and neither disappointed at all. The smash burger was exactly as it should be: a perfectly smashed patty with a beautiful deep crust, nice and juicy on the inside, and just perfectly balanced. The sauce had a flavorful presence without overpowering the meat, and everything about the texture was spot on. Not an overhyped Instagram burger, but simply a burger that leaves you speechless.

Bonnie is one of the more popular places in Amsterdam to have a great time with your friends! A hot spot that serves amazing burgers and provides a great atmosphere. One thing that made me visit this place is the quality of the burgers. They're actually very delicious and tasty. Besides that, the place actually has a very nice atmosphere and ambiance to it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. At times on the terrace it can be a bit busy and chaotic but they handle it very well and make sure everything is handled.

The staff is friendly, but that's about it. They bring you your food WITHOUT any cutlery. You literally have to ask three times to get a napkin because they're always busy with other things. The food itself could be better; it's definitely not worth your money. I'd say: avoid this place.

Simple Club Sandwich 23€ hahaha just act normal

15 minutes we sat at the bar table. Servers noticed us, but couldn't be arsed to even give us a menu? People sitting besides on the same bar table get the menu, cutlery and food. So why not us? Because we are brown maybe ? Not even a "we will try to sit you elsewhere if there is a no show. In the meantime do you want to start with a coffee or drinks".

This place can really go either way — sometimes it’s a good experience, sometimes not so much, and there doesn’t seem to be much in between. Service and timing can vary a lot depending on who is working that day. At times the food arrives very quickly, and other times it can take quite a while. I’ve also noticed that the experience can differ depending on the staff member serving you. As an expat, it doesn’t always feel like English is equally welcomed by everyone, though other times the service is perfectly friendly. The food itself is okay — nothing extraordinary, but not bad either. It’s not my favourite place in the area, but it’s not my least favourite. The location is good, and on a warm day the terrace is really nice. It’s also a decent place to stop in when you want to get out of the rain, and they do make a good hot chocolate. I’ve had both good and bad experiences here but still come back from time to time. Overall it’s an average spot with potential.

It's worth visiting this place for dinner. The atmosphere in the evening is truly romantic and cozy. The steak was one of the best I've ever had, the burgers were also delicious and chicken was okay. Unfortunately, the steak tartare was low-quality, cut into large pieces, and it was strange to find raw mushrooms in it. We didn't eat it and the waitress didn't ask what was wrong. I could have rated the food higher, but we came to try their breakfast and ordered shakshuka. Instead, we got tomato soup with eggs, which was really bad.

Prepare to be disappointed, all that glitters is not gold. The waiting staff are unresponsive and clueless. We were told after making our selections that half the starters were unavailable due to it being Monday night (had we been warned as we sat down that would have been a bit different). Followed by our choice of mains, after finding out 2 of this were also unavailable. We then ordered what was described as half a chicken with fries. Only the fries arrived. When challenged the staff suggested that they thought that was the starter. Then some chicken thighs arrived cold, slightly under cooked and in a cold sauce. We immediately asked for the bill, unable to take any more of the poor experience and were presented with the full bill. Nothing deducted, no apology and no question as to what was wrong even though our plates were full…. If you want to spend 85 euro. On a poor dining experience - go ahead.

As usual Bonnie doesn’t disappoint. This place is the perfetly typical brasserie with an Amsterdam twist: not too big not too small, just the right size to enjoy a cozy but lively evening. You can come here for anything, dinner, drinks, a small bite before you go to dinner. The food, although not the most varied, is perfected and is simply so good. Yes, prices are a bit above average but I promise you will not be disappointed by it’s quality and everyone deserves to treat themselves every once in a while right? The staff are super friendly , always attentive and very fast. If you’re in West or live in the neighbourhood, this can become your special place hehe.

They had a party on downstairs so this might have something to do with the experience, but it was a catalogue of qualms from the moment we arrived. Not only is it deafeningly loud, to the point that you're unable to communicate with the server, it's also extremely dark if they "run out of candles" as they said to me. Which also means I couldn't see the menu, but that quickly became a moot point because the menu was in Dutch was told "to use Google translate", which is fair enough I guess. Food came in decent time but fries were underseasoned, burger was average at best - lacked any kind of tang of mustard, ketchup, pickles, it was just a dense slop. When I asked for the ketchup it took a while to arrive, I'd finished the burger by that point, all bar the last bite, which I left as it had a clump of dust and hair in it like you'd find in a vacuum. I couldn't show them it because it was too dark, and I'd lost the clump to the ether at that point. Suddenly they'd found enough candles and brought us one over. Burger was comped, didn't ask for it to be, so that was ok. Not sure I'd rush back. It was OK. Just an intense yet bland vibe that's not for me. Gives Big Mamma Group vibes. Beer selection was good though. One of the best I've seen.

Impersonal, not my new local pub

I went to Bonnie on a Wednesday evening and there was a beautiful, chill, intimate vibe around the place. Candles on each table created a soft, warm environment to feel comfortable in, with no loud or commercial music in the background. The service was excellent—the best I’ve had in the Netherlands, believe me! We ordered two burgers (one vegetarian) and the portions were very generous and delicious. We also had a tiramisu and—as an Italian—I truly appreciated it! Again, big portion (split into two). We spent 60€ for two people (two burgers with fries, a big draft beer, and a tiramisu. Plus free tap water). It was a beautiful night with an intimate vibe.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Friendly staff very nice place. Upstairs is extremely noisy, you cant hear each other. Downstairs very nice. Food is good. Child friendly. Steak tartaar could be better. Beef short ribs very good.

Their smash burgers de one of the best in town and the place is coast, but the interior is very 1970s and a bit outdated. While the food is amazing, service can run slow and it can require a bit of effort to get the staff’s attention. Regardless, you’ll have a great time.

We spontaneously went for lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. The homemade lemonade was delicious and the food was very tasty. The club sandwich was quite large but really delicious. The atmosphere was very cozy. We felt very comfortable.

Bonnie Amsterdam was a great stop. We had a smash burger with Parmesan truffle fries and a Duvel 666. Everything was really pleasant: the patty was clearly high quality, juicy and well cooked, and the bun was as buttery as it gets. The fries were crispy and full of flavor. The staff was super nice and the vibe in the place was incredible. Would happily come back.

Great spot for (casual) group gatherings. Definitely check the menu ahead of time. Some dishes feel a bit underwhelming (like the quarter salad head, more garnish than meal). While others are solid and satisfying. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but if you order smart, you’ll be fine.

The food, cod with French fries, was delicious. Then came the Baileys cheesecake...it was truly amazing. The service was very attentive, friendly, and professional. Highly recommended!

I ate here last night for my birthday, and it was generally really good. We were served by Anna (if I'm not mistaken), who was super sweet and attentive. We arrived half an hour early and were seated right away. The starters were excellent, especially the crispy tuna and the pulpo, which are highly recommended. The main courses were also good; the cooking methods were perfect, as were the fries and salad. Unfortunately, the sirloin steak had just run out, so we ordered a double portion; I wouldn't recommend the truffle. Everything was really delicious. As Belgians working in a meat restaurant in Antwerp, we expected the sauces to be a bit stronger. The béarnaise was more like hollandaise, and the pepper sauce hadn't thickened. If that were still perfect, it would have made the experience perfect. The veal jus, on the other hand, was delicious. I was told there were no Belgian beers, while later I saw a Liefmans Kriek on the menu. Too bad, because otherwise I would have had that instead of the amaretto sour. Dessert was once again sold out, but that was nicely compensated with desserts and hot drinks on the house, a gesture we, as hospitality professionals, greatly appreciate. It's great to find a place in Amsterdam with authentic Dutch hospitality. We came from Antwerp and will definitely be back (also for the prime rib ;-)) Thank you for the wonderful birthday!

The people who work here are very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is very nice and homey, it feels like you walk into a living room. When I arrived, I wanted to see formula 1 and they put it on for me. They had multiple beers I tried a couple and enjoyed them. So there’s some for anyone. I would so go and strike up a conversation, very social, very kind. An overal good time👍.

Had a very nice lunch with a beer here. At first service was a little slow and lackluster but after we ordered our drinks everything went very smooth. The melanzane sandwich and the croque madame you really have to try when you visit here.

We visited Bonnie's for my son's bday last weekend and had an absolute blast. Beautiful building and ambiance on a corner of the Amstelveensweg. Wood and copper set the tone and give the place a true vintage Parisian bistro vibe. At entrance, where a large bar area welcomes primarily local guests, the buzz is sizzling. The bar area flows over seamlessly into a great dining space with a semi open kitchen where the kitchen staff works relentlessly to cook up absolutely fabulous smash burgers, which were recently selected to be the best burgers in town. The side dishes were also very tasty. We did find the portions of those a little small for the price (a skewer with 3 pieces of pulpo with some greens; 15 euro's). The best burgers in town however were deliciously priced at only 20,- Super friendly and professional staff welcomed us with warmth and congratulated my kid with fireworks on his burger and singing happy birthday with the whole restaurant. That was such a great surprise, thanks again! All in all 5 very well deserved stars for Bonnie, keep it up guys, and girls. There don't seem to be many Korean reviews, perhaps because most people are sightseeing and eating at the central station. However, if you're staying in a nearby hotel, I recommend this place. I arrived at 10:50 AM and asked if the lunch menu was available. I was told they were preparing it and asked me to wait 10 minutes. They finally took my order a little after 11 AM. I ordered the Bonis Smash Burger (with truffle fries) and a small Heineken. It was delicious!! The sauce was familiar, but I'd never tried it on a burger before. It's mustard-based, similar to what you'd find on a hot dog in Korea. The patty was also a bit unique. Koreans might find it a bit salty, but I enjoyed it with beer. I'd been feeling a bit intimidated by rude customers for a few days, but the ladies who took my order and served me were incredibly kind. I'm a big eater in Korea, so I could eat a Whopper burger all by myself, but I was so full I left some fries. I ate inside on the first floor because it was a bit cold, but I think there's also an outdoor seating area and a second floor.

This restaurant is extremely disappointing. I don't know where all the good reviews come from. The sandwiches were mediocre, and the smoked salmon was fishy and lacked any seasoning. The burgers were mediocre and very salty. The kitchen staff used their hands to handle the ingredients. The freshly squeezed juice had sand in it, so the waiter tasted it and replaced it with something else. The most outrageous thing was that when I paid €51, I gave €60, and the waiter pretended the remaining change was a tip. He took the money and didn't give me change. I waited for several minutes and finally went to the front desk to ask. The waiter pretended to have forgotten and only gave me €9 in change!

We love coming here. The prices and menu have changed over the years. We both had a starter, a main course, and a side dish. A few years ago, you got side dishes with your main course. Now, you have to order side dishes with your meat or fish, and that quickly adds up to around forty euros—just for your main course. Not really appropriate for a pub? It's a shame if you're still a bit hungry after your main course.

Quality place for a nice smash burger and good fries. Service was fast and the place has tons of seating, lots of outdoor seating too! Has a good list of drinks available too!

Horrible service. Food takes forever to arrive, only if you remind them a million times. Overly priced and hyped. Not worth it. Does it really take 30mins to makes fries and bitterballen, I mean!

Not a fan of the menu served Just two slices of bread with two mustard and pickle croquettes... What's the point? Quite disappointed.

We had a wonderful meal here – the smash burger, steak au poivre, and the truffle parmesan fries were absolutely fantastic. The focaccia with whipped butter as a starter was also delicious. The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy. What was a shame, however, was the service. We had to wait almost 20 minutes before anyone came to us, while tables around us were already being served. Orders were sometimes forgotten (sparrot, straw), sometimes taken incorrectly (ginger ale instead of cola), and several times we were told they would "be right back," but that didn't happen. It wasn't until much later that we were able to order our food. In short: the food, atmosphere, and price are definitely worth it, but the service could still improve considerably to make the experience complete.

Bonnie's is a great place with comfortable seating both inside and out. We had lunch there and both had the steak sandwich for 16 euros. The taste was fine, but the quantity, and especially the steak itself, left much to be desired. As served, it's not worth 16 euros. The service is friendly but not very attentive or fast.

I very much like the terrace at Bonnie. Plenty of lunch options, Caesar salad is my go-to and with real grilled chicken! Service is not very attentive like in most places in Amsterdam.

Had the chicken club. Really good sandwich, it hit the spot. But what I really want to talk about is the fact that they served the best thin-cut fries I've ever had. Perfectly well done to a golden crisp.

Ofcourse this place is stated in the top 3 smashburger joints of Amsterdam. Basic, good, quality, taste. All is well, don’t look further.
