Best Restaurant in Amsterdam, amazing Food and service ❤️💯

Long wait (45 minutes). Food relatively cold -> not recommended

Not a good place if you want to eat. The tuna tacos were far too small and each one was less than a mouthful. The tacos were about 1 inch in length each… that is not normal for 20 euros. Definitely do not recommend eating here.

Recently went there with a friend and we were not helped while new customers were allowed to take a seat, then we took a seat ourselves because no one came our way. We did this at a table where no reservation was indicated. A little later we got dishes placed in front of us and then an antisocial employee came our way to send us away. And during a previous visit to Café in the city my deposit was not taken from the bill. After having emailed a few times with an employee I suddenly got no answer anymore and also not my money.

Went multiple times with joggers Under armour etc but today it was a problem 1 of us was with joggers and said we couldn’t eat there just because of the joggers which is total BS. Ive seen it often enough.

The food is great, really fresh and yummy. Sadly the music is really loud so you really cannot have a conversation.. service is fine but the sushis are overpriced, 25 euros for a maki roll!

On mondays they have a deal where sushis are 10 euros each (idk if this is a temporary deal or not). Sushis were fantastic, they were fresh and scrumptious. The location was also very accessible, in the heart of Leidsplein. Service was a bit slow and the atmosphere is fine. For sushis and drinks I would recommend checking this place out.

These people are racists. We wanted to have a drink here but the security guard or whatever he was didn't let us in because we were 4 dark ladies. He gave as a reason that 1 of us was wearing leggings. While there were only white people inside and a boy was just wearing short jogging pants. There was no mention of a dress code anywhere. I think it's a disgrace that this is still possible in 2025. Even if you remove my review I will continue to post it. Just be honest that that's why you didn't let us in. We all looked well dressed. The leggings were perfectly fine.

What a bad place! I have never been treated so unfairly and inhumanely. Staff that can't smile. After converting the place from restaurant to club, tables and chairs are pushed into people's ribs without mercy. You also see the same type of people in the staff. As soon as you look a little different, they look at you what you're doing? But in the meantime they ask every minute if you already know what you want from the menu. We know our club. Tip from flip? Keep your money in your pocket or go to café Rotterdam.

If you want a relaxed evening out, don't go here. The music is so loud that talking and hearing the other person is almost impossible, unless you want to scream. The live musician tries his best but the sound is distortedly loud. Otherwise, the food is nice and the service is good.

Oh my goodness, so glad to have stumbled upon this place, the food was so delicious and we just so happened to be there on a Monday where they have a big discount on their rolls. The food was so fresh and delicious, the staff very friendly and loved the atmosphere. Great place, if I lived nearby I would frequent this spot, Australia is just a little too far haha

Heerlijk gegeten en een gezellige sfeer. Het personeel is aangesloten en goede service👌We komen hier al jaren en we zijn nog nooit ontevreden de deur uitgelopen. Op de Maandag hebben ze Sushi rollen voor €10,- ook heel fijn om dan een keer los te gaan 😂

Food was delicious, service was good too. They came by regularly to make sure everything was as expected. The only downside was that the mocktail was very small and on the pricey side. But otherwise it was delicious

Wat een vreselijk plek echt ik kom hier nooit meer. Ik kom hier al 10 jaar met mijn familie en ze kennen ons daar allemaal. Ik kom daar op koningsdag waar mensen met de zonnebrillen binnen stonden omdat ze allemaal helemaal stijf van de coke stonden. Ik ben een meisje van 20 jaar en 1.63 groot. Ik was vrolijk en ging van buiten naar binnen want ik had mijn vriendin gehaald. Toen kreeg ik een paar keer al duwtjes dat iemand mij er niet door wilde laten maar ik negeerde het en probeerde een gaatje te zoeken zodat ik verder kon lopen. Toen kreeg ik een harde duw terug en zij de man van bijna 40 met een bril op ‘wil je door me heen ofzo’ op een agressieve manier en dat herhaalde hij. Dus ik wordt boos en zeg dat hij even normaal tegen mij moet doen en ik wil alsnog mijn weg vervolgen. Daarna krijg ik vol in mijn gezicht een drankje gegooid door deze man. ik was drijfnat , alles in mijn ogen. Ja dan wordt je natuurlijk heel erg boos en had de beveiliging hem eruit moeten slepen. Maar nee ik werd bij mijn keel gegrepen door een personeelslid genaamd thomas (met inhammen) dus geen beveiliging. Omdat ik boos werd op deze man. Dus ik schreeuw dat hij van mij af moet blijven. Maar hij bleef doorgaan. Toen kwam er een beveiliger (van ik weet niet hoe breed) van achter die mijn polsen over elkaar deed en heel hard vast greep en toen ik al buiten was kreeg ik nog een trap na. En niemand maar dan ook niemand stond bij de cokesnuiver met de bril. Hoe krom dat je dit bij een vrouw doet echt te schandalig voor woorden.

We wanted to eat delicious sushi here. Was assigned a table, received a card, ordered drinks. We had selected some different sushi. The server comes to take the order. Then he says, "I should mention that you cannot order sushi." A bit strange in a sushi restaurant. At each table this was only told when drinks had already been ordered and the menu had been studied. Then it turned out that we were allowed to order, but had to wait an hour. We ended up doing this, because we came for sushi after all

I must honestly say that I expected more from it. The food was fine, but it lacked that little bit extra to really impress. The staff was also friendly, although some mutual comments seemed a bit too casual - especially because they were clearly audible to the guests. What was really disappointing was the condition of our table inside: food scraps on the floor and a sticky floor unfortunately made for a less fresh impression. Shame.

No vayas aquí. La comida estaba bien. Pero el camarero me trae mi cheque y me dice ‘¿puede pagar en efectivo? Hay un ataque bancario internacional y tu tarjeta no funciona’ No, no lo hay. Y mi tarjeta funcionó bien en todas partes antes y después de estar aquí. Si quieres dinero, dilo. No mientas sin ninguna razón.

Have eaten here for the second time in two years. Always on day visits to Amsterdam. Proximity to the Hardrock Cafe. Good ambience both inside and outside. Sitting in the sun yesterday was lovely. Small but good menu, okay price for the location. We liked the food. We'll be back.

Worthless experience - definitely not recommended! This was without a doubt one of the worst restaurant visits I've ever had. The service was downright bad: the staff was unfriendly, disinterested and not helpful at all. We had to wait forever for both our food and drinks, and when the food finally came it was cold and tasteless. Moreover, the order was wrong, but instead of offering a solution, the staff reacted with irritation and indifference. Hygiene also left much to be desired. The tables were sticky, the cutlery was not clean and the toilets were downright filthy. In addition, the prices were way too high for what you get - definitely not good value for money. Cocktails had absolutely no alcohol in them. In short, a terrible experience from start to finish. I will never come back here and I recommend everyone to avoid this restaurant!

Our rude security guard makes fun of you a bit before he lets you in. Music was too loud to have a conversation, but food was Fine, but pricey for the small portions.

Called in advance to see if we can deviate from the standard menu with a group. This was not possible, only by email. So we email. No response.... Upon arrival, it was very confusing as to where exactly we should be. Thinking this is a food place. There is a DJ in the room pumping loud music. Can't even hear each other at the table... We had no other choice on the menu. Fine... But then half of the starter is placed on one side of the table and if we want it on the other side we would have to pay extra... because an x ​​number of dishes are served at a table with a group . The food that was served was delicious. But I also thought this was too little. The main course took a while to arrive. More than 45 minutes after the starter. Expérience déplorable. Nous étions un groupe de 7 amis venus célébrer le Nouvel An, avec un acompte de 210 € déjà payé. Cependant, ce montant n’a pas été déduit de l’addition finale. C’est totalement inacceptable, une véritable escroquerie. De plus, le personnel était extrêmement désagréable. Je déconseille fortement cet établissement, qui donne l’impression de vouloir simplement arnaquer ses clients.

Went there tonight, asked if we could go in for a drink. The bouncers were so rude and wouldn’t let us in. Based on this, would never go near the place again.

Review Ik had hoge verwachtingen van Café in the City, maar mijn ervaring viel helaas enorm tegen. Ondanks dat ik ruim op tijd had gereserveerd, kreeg ik een plek toegewezen pal naast de deur. Dit was niet alleen een slechte plek, maar ook erg koud. Toen ik vroeg om een andere tafel (waarbij ik duidelijk lege tafels zag), werd me verteld dat er geen andere opties waren. Bovendien moest ik gedwongen mijn jas inleveren bij binnenkomst, terwijl ik aangaf dat ik dit liever niet wilde. Ze stonden erop dat mijn jas werd aangenomen, maar toen ik het ijskoud kreeg en mijn jas terugvroeg, mocht ik deze niet aantrekken. Dit voelde onnodig streng en onvriendelijk. De serveerster die dit afhandelde, was ronduit brutaal en totaal niet begripvol. Het eten kon de ervaring helaas niet redden. De sushi was droog en leek oud, wat absoluut niet aan mijn verwachtingen voldeed. De lamskotelet was op zich lekker, maar ik moest er extra lang op wachten omdat het vlees niet goed doorbakken was en opnieuw bereid moest worden. Door deze combinatie van slechte service, onaangename sfeer en teleurstellend eten, raad ik Café in the City helaas niet aan. Mijn ervaring was allesbehalve positief.

Very friendly, but (sometimes) pushy staff. Good food, a bit on the pricey side but worth the investment. The pushy part for me was because an employee came by every 5 minutes to pour the large bottle of water that we had ordered in addition to other drinks and food into everyone's glass. And then always say 'Is there anything I can do for you?'. Some people will experience it as service, but I experience it as overzealous or pushy. I came for a birthday, which included eating and drinking. This also includes conversations, but if this is constantly interrupted by sales staff, this is disruptive. At the end of our reservation the coats were collected, but given to the wrong people.

Some friends Peter and Erika invited us and the truth is that we were very comfortable, in this pleasant place and the manager was very attentive and we enjoyed beautiful views of the immense forests and large beautiful garden.

Been several times and every time it is perfect Food is made with love and just different from other restaurants I took gyoza twice, prepared in 2 different ways. Thought it was quite pricey for 4 gyoza at 18 euros The staff are so professional and friendly . The atmosphere is so good too. Everything is correct..

Al met al was dit een geweldige avond die zowel culinair als op het gebied van vermaak aan al onze verwachtingen voldeed. Het restaurant biedt een ideale combinatie van goed eten, uitstekende service en een unieke ervaring. Ik zou het zeker aanbevelen voor iedereen die op zoek is naar een avond uit met net dat beetje extra. Zeker voor een speciale gelegenheid is dit een aanrader!

Great restaurant we came upon. The 3 of us enjoyed Thai Bef Salad, Avocado Toast Smash, and Poke Bowl with added tuna. We also shared the Peking Duck Spring Rolls. All delicious 😋

Had a delicious meal, spent a day in Amsterdam with mother and this was around the corner from the theater where we went to a performance. We had to wait a little longer for our lunch, but they apologized in between because it was a bit busier. We had a delicious meal there with good wine. Will definitely come back.

I travel to Amsterdam especially for this. That poke bowl and sushi are so delicious. That's more than worth the hour's travel to me. This really makes me happy.

Kwam er graag, alleen bij mijn laatste bezoek was de kwaliteit van het eten vind ik persoonlijk achteruit gegaan. Personeel is vriendelijk en de cocktails zijn erg goed. Alleen je gaat het snel vergelijken met je vorige bezoeken en dat viel wel op bij mij. Vooral de gyozas vielen tegen. Sushi smaakte niet vers.

Lekker gegeten en op de Maandag is het ook nog eens Sushi dag. Heerlijke sushi voor €10 per rol. Een goede service en de bediening (Anouk) was heel aardig.

It was a cozy place with reasonable prices for everything you get. I have a gluten allergy myself, so I knew that I certainly wouldn't be able to eat everything on the menu. Before we took our seats, I asked which dishes could be gluten-free, the answer I received was: "Unfortunately, the sandwiches cannot be gluten-free (we do not have gluten-free bread), we can make the poke bowl gluten-free, just like the sushi, salad, etc. and a few other dishes so you can ask about them." After watching I opted for the poke bowl. 10 minutes later someone comes to us and explains that unfortunately the poke bowl is not possible because they had to remove too many ingredients and it would no longer be a dish. It's strange that they don't have replacements for people with allergies. Later I opted for their tacos and after another 10 minutes I was told that it could not be gluten-free because the taco shell itself even contained gluten. I asked at the table what could really be gluten-free. And those were just a few sushi rolls from which they had to remove something, and salads from which they even had to check whether the dressing could be applied. This was really worthless and I left it at just one drink. I don't plan on coming back.

Avoid this place at all costs!!!! Had a reservation and were denied entry brcause there’s a dresscode? In a very mediocre restaurant? After asking us to change clothes (weird), the hostess tried to “make an exception” while once again making an extrememely rude comment that made us even more uncomfortable. Had lunch with my wife a few weeks ago and was craving some sushi. I ask for a glass of cremant or cava and know what the average price is Staff says we don't have one but I do have one.... I actually didn't even understand it, but you think it's something similar, right? In the end you received a voucher of €22.50 for a glass of brut? Lunch total approx. €100,- Restaurant looks like a beer café with Harbor Club prices, which is correct because it is family owned. In any case, I won't be going there again They are already in bad shape in the Google reviews, but it is not getting any better.

HORRIBLE / SCAM / VIOLENT - We booked a table upstairs for dinner as well as a table for the " club" part downstairs . We were 7 people living in Amsterdam but not fluent in Dutch. when going downstairs for the party, we ordered many bottles and start dancing at the table.. Maybe 10 minutes after the bouncers start coming at us and literally grabbing us and taking us outside without any explanation. I kept asking the guy at the door if I could at least grab out coats in the cloakroom but the guy literally pushed me and grabbed me by the arm pulling me out ( btw I'm 1m60 and a girl so...) Then the same guy start yelling at us and insulting us. When I tell you everyone was sober and it was 5 minutes after paying at maybe 00:30. Then we saw the long queue outside and understood they scammed us as 'tourists' and booked the table again so they'd have the table booked twice and so paid for twice. Basically just Dutch people in there so DON'T GO IF YOU ARE NOT DUTCH. Already during dinner, the waiter kept putting things on the table that we didn't order and then saying we have to pay for it since it's on the table even tho no one touched it and we said immediately he also was super pushy on ordering things... honestly the worst experience I've ever had.

Gereserveerd voor een plekje binnen. Vervolgens tussen de deuren gezet waardoor we half buiten zaten. We kregen ook alle geuren die vrij komen van sigaretten in ons gezicht wat niet heel erg aangenaam is als je wil komen eten en een van ons heeft astma. Daarnaast verwacht je ook niet na een lange reis vanuit Rotterdam dat dit de ervaring is die je gaat oplopen als je denkt binnen te kunnen zitten waarvoor is gereserveerd. Ook zaten we met z’n drieën op een rijtje wat natuurlijk niet al te gezellig is. Dit alles is aangegeven bij de medewerkers. Echter medewerkers vonden dat wij ze tot last waren en kwamen ook niet met een oplossing of compromis. Ik verwacht dat ik dezelfde kwaliteit krijg als de mensen die daadwerkelijk binnen zitten aangezien ik ook dezelfde prijzen moet betalen. Als er geen plek meer binnen is moet het ook niet geforceerd worden door ons half binnen en half buiten te zetten. Uiteindelijk niet meer daar gegeten want daar wilde wij ons geld niet meer uitgeven nadat we zo onvriendelijk zijn behandeld.

I was gonna casually grap drinks but rejected to enter in because of my shorts and bag. Didn't know that this place is actually a fancy party place named "cafe" in the city in the most touristic area in Amsterdam Try to at least effort to put instructions on ur website. Saying reasons of rejections with decency and politeness rather than just saying " no your shorts and bag" is not that hard.

We both had 1 drink yesterday. Aperol spritz. We got the bill... €29.50, we were shocked. I'm sure it will be a nice atmosphere and nice staff, but come on... €29.50 for seriously two small glasses of aperol??? That was the first and last time for us. Scandalous!

One of my favorite places in Amsterdam, for special moments but also for a spontaneous lunch or something to drink. Super friendly staff, very diverse menu and definitely recommended, but I think that the sizes are sometimes just too small, for example the taco shells, it is not indicated that you are paying for mini tacos.

Wij hadden 18 mei gereserveerd om 22:30 waarbij we 10 euro p.p moesten betalen (wat niet in mindering van de rekening wordt gebracht) om de reservering te voldoen. Bij aankomst werd er tegen ons verteld dat we de tafel maar een half uurtje konden gebruiken, want ‘v.i.p’ klanten hadden de tafel nodig rond een uur of 23:00 uur… Toen we aan tafel zaten ging alles natuurlijk gehaast, want de keuken zou ook al om 23:00 uur sluiten. Rond een uur of 11 werden we vriendelijk verzocht om de tafel te verlaten en om bij de bar te gaan staan. Na een kwartier zijn we natuurlijk weggegaan. Personeel had helemaal geen aandacht voor de klanten omdat ze bezig waren in de weer om de achterkant te verbouwen in een soortig ‘vip sectie/club’.

It was disgusting, the club sandwitch has old brown lettuce, the chicken was hard and dry and we all trow up later. It took 50 min to get the food and the service was horrible. Not a beautiful experience!

Koningsdag gevierd bij café in the city , het was super druk en zo super gezellig ! Super service heerlijke drankjes en zelfs de sushi was heerlijk !

Had a nice time here. The food was nice apart from the fried rice side dish which was not edible at all. The drinks were expensive (considering it was virgin drinks) but its amsterdam so what can i say. overpriced but okay.

so overpriced and not worth it. the 3 tacos for €18 were literally the size of my pinky, the prawn salad was just straight spinach. really disappointed to have spent this much and received food a rabbit could’ve made blindfolded.

Worst experience ever had with a large voucher, adding extra things that were never ordered, having experienced this before in Rotterdam, it was neatly resolved, but here in Amsterdam they don't know the word solution and then we are talking about Anouk (blond hair) by name. That will only give you a big mouth as if the place is hers. I definitely advise you not to eat here, just walk one door further and at Palladium you will be served at your beck and call.

Visited here from London during my trip to Amsterdam. Had a table at the night club, my bag and phone were stolen from my table. Security and staff were unhelpful. Refused to check CCTV. Horrible experience. Be careful of thieves here.

I had a nice experience in this café last week in the afternoon. Great location next to Leidseplein and an excellent, cozy atmosphere inside. I had a double shot of Diplomatico reserva rum followed by two sets of tacos, first chicken an then shrimp. Everything was fine, recommend!
