Brasil in Callantsoog

We had an excellent meal at Brasil in Callantsoog. What a wonderful experience! The steak of about 300 grams, the surf and turf, was truly a taste sensation. Super tender, perfectly prepared, and full of flavor. You don't often experience such a good steak. Everything was right: the taste, the preparation, and the experience. For us, it really felt like a special Brazilian moment: a treat for the stomach. We had a fantastic meal and it is absolutely worth repeating! Compliments to the kitchen and the service. We stayed there twice during our holiday and it was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, and there were no problems with dogs. They make sure you're in a quiet area. Highly recommended!

An unforgettable experience – unfortunately not in a good way! This restaurant can apparently only survive because of the numerous unsuspecting tourists who flock to the town every day. We arrived at the restaurant around 8 p.m. and immediately learned the first rule: the table we requested wasn't the right one. We ordered drinks without menus, which we had to find ourselves later. Our food order was taken by a staff member who had apparently decided to revolutionize the concept of greetings and simply forgo them altogether. The food arrived in less than ten minutes. The drinks, however, were clearly still on vacation. Spoons for the tagliatelle were initially only available in theory. After asking, we finally received them, and eventually, our drinks as well. The knives, forks, and spoons seemed to have come from a historical display of various cutlery eras. Although we both ordered the same dish, the portions looked significantly different. The shrimp were dry, and the amount of garlic was more reminiscent of a large order for an Italian industrial kitchen. The side salad didn't appear until we were already halfway through our meal – including a decoratively halved slice of pineapple, which was apparently served whole, presumably to encourage the guest to do some of the work themselves. While we were eating, all the tables around us were cleared. A dropped fork was left to languish on the floor, and the trolley full of dirty dishes remained on the terrace as a decorative element. Most remarkable: Well before the official closing time, the terrace doors were closed, and right next to us, an employee began vacuuming the restaurant. Other guests were informed that the restaurant was obviously closing – evident from the absence of menus on the tables. However, the opening hours were only available online. The crowning touch: Two terrible pasta dishes and two small Cokes for €57! An evening we won't forget. Unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.

Very unfriendly service. One person only spoke English and the other woman came to our table and nodded at me and my mother, asking what we wanted to drink. Sorry, but I find it purely rude. I am home now and the pancake with bacon is bothering me quite a bit. In short, it was not a positive experience.

Ordered squid rings, but they really didn't sit well with me, and my partner did too. We still tried to eat the main course, but a bit slower. My partner asked for the steak but without the mushrooms and was then told she could remove them herself. When it arrived, it was like a fried mush on top and all over everything... We were constantly asked if we were finished yet; it was already 8 o'clock, so there was still an hour before they closed. After the second time, I would have just waited until they said they were finished themselves. Music on repeat, which was annoying. The side salad was also something I had never seen before... macaroni, lettuce, tomato, onion, watermelon, and curry sauce. Nice terrace though, and easily accessible.

Unacceptable special treatment for guests from Germany! We received our appetizers and one drink each, but nothing more. The staff seemed more interested in noisily helping themselves. When more than ten guests arrived, chaos ensued, completely disorganized and without any discernible system. Everyone was running around without any clear assignment of tasks, and we couldn't even order a second drink. Furthermore, the main course never arrived, and to top it all off, they tried to create a fake bill on their smartphones, spitefully giving us our change only in coins. This despicable treatment of German guests is unacceptable and a complete disaster for this otherwise beautiful place! Save yourself the exorbitant prices and don't subject yourself to this!

We ate here last night. The plaice with side dishes was delicious and nicely presented. Afterwards, a sweet dessert... Headed home satisfied. Highly recommended....

What a nice restaurant; a mocktail was made especially for us and it was delicious. We even came back for it. And we're going again this week. They also have a good and extensive menu. The pancakes were very tasty too.

Our food was consistently bad, but expensive. The background music consisted of three Bob Marley songs on a loop. The highlight was the Heineken on tap.

We ordered a schnitzel with fried potatoes and thick fries with Zaanse mayonnaise; these were soggy and undercooked, no Zaanse mayonnaise, and the schnitzel was lukewarm, not crispy, and clearly reheated. The fries were white and undercooked, and no thick fries. The service was not good, no Dutch, and he had to take pictures of what we wanted with his phone. We had one beer, saw no one else, even though it was quiet. It's a shame; we are from the neighborhood but will never go here again.

Takeaway pizza. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pizza base wasn't right. I definitely can't recommend this place, at least not for the pizza.

Unfortunately the service provided by one person was very bad - she seems to be the owner/senior employee. There is not much traditionally Brazilian, despite the name of the restaurant.

Went out for dinner last weekend and ordered from the varied daily menu. I had the spare ribs myself. Despite it being busy, I was served very quickly.

Yesterday I ate a takeaway pizza from Brasil. I read a lot of mixed reviews, but the pizzas we got were really terrible. The difference between a Margherita and a salami pizza was almost imperceptible. It was a big red mass with cheese here and there. The pizza tasted like absolutely nothing and smelled strange too. It was packed in a box, but also wrapped in aluminum foil. I don't think that did the pizza any good either. I cut off a slice and was then able to lift the entire top layer and look between the top and bottom layers. The base was very dry and the top very soggy. I can't say anything about the rest of the food, the service, or the atmosphere, but these pizzas are not good. And then there's the price: 16.95 for a Margherita and 17.95 for the salami pizza. That is completely out of proportion with the quality, which is depressingly low.

We dined with 6 people last weekend, starting in the afternoon with soup and a charcuterie board. The service was superb and we were served quickly. Around dinnertime, we sat down for dinner and ordered both the fish and meat specialties. Highly recommended: the cod fillet and the 250-gram steak loaf made from the thick cut. The price, service, and quality are a solid 10. One side note, though: dessert took a little longer because the place was packed, but despite the crowds, we had a wonderful afternoon and evening. A solid ten on behalf of our group of friends for Brasil Callantsoog.

Took a pizza for takeaway and it’s not even tasty. The bottom is soggy and you pay a lot of money for a sloppy pizza. Don’t recommend anyone to buy a pizza over there. It it’s better to buy a pizza at the local supermarket frozen or go to the real pizzeria in Callantsoog

The food was truly delicious, so I would have loved to leave a completely positive review. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the bill. Instead of the agreed-upon €45 (which already included a €5 tip), I was subsequently charged €65. I still haven't received a reply to my email from June 3rd, 2026, requesting clarification. While I can recommend the food, I advise always asking for a receipt when paying and checking the amount immediately. It's a real shame that things turned out this way.

We ordered three pizzas to takeaway last night. We paid over 50 euros, one of which was a Margherita without cheese. And none of them tasted good. Frozen pizza would have been a better choice.

We're used to better pancakes in the Netherlands. On mine, the topping (apples and bacon) had slid together on one side.

Very slow service, waited at least 15 minutes before anyone came. The staff just stand inside chatting, see you sitting there but don't come over.

We had a delicious meal tonight with 4 adults and 1 4-year-old girl. The welcome was very pleasant; upon arrival, we were immediately provided with a coloring page and pencils for our daughter. The hostess, with her humor and wit, is right up our alley. The pizzas, spareribs, steak, and pancakes were very tasty. Compliments to the chef! Highly recommended for a visit! I first tried to order a pizza with one less topping, but that wasn't possible because everything was pre-prepared. I don't understand how that is possible. So I went for the spareribs instead; these reminded me of spareribs from the supermarket freezer. The children had pizza and pancakes, and those looked pretty good.

Quite expensive for what you get on your plate. There are much better places to eat, especially on the beach.

Update 2026 - Kip Satelé is 8 percent more expensive than last year at €27.50. Coke remains at €3.60. Pizza Tonno is €18.95. Mushrooms are €15.75. We'll still come back. The location, the food, and the service are still good. 🙂 Update 2025 Prices only slightly higher. Coke €3.60, Pizza Tonno €16.75, Kip Satelé €25.50. We were very satisfied with the food and service. Update 2024 Not only have the prices increased, but the portions have also become smaller (see satay skewer). It's no longer a clear recommendation... Unfortunately. Note: Prices have also increased here. Pizza is €14, Tonno is even €16, and a small Coke is €3.50. Aside from that, we received friendly and fast service during our visit. We were satisfied with the food: the pizzas were more of a house specialty, but fresh and good. The satay is highly recommended!

Small but excellent bistro... extensive food and drink menu from shrimp and pancakes to spare ribs... Very friendly service by a lively, cheerful woman with funny comments now and then. The pancakes are delicious and served hot. We'd love to go there again and will definitely stop by again...

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious late lunch at this café today. I had a pancake with goat cheese, walnuts, and honey—it was absolutely delightful and reminded me of my childhood. I loved every bite. My husband ordered the tuna ciabatta, which was very good, but the real highlight for him was the pasta salad served alongside it. We enjoyed great food while soaking up the sun on the patio—truly a perfect afternoon.

There were three of us in the restaurant. The service was very friendly. The food was very good. The espresso was also very good. We felt very comfortable and will go there again.

Despite the poor service during our last vacation, we went there for dinner again today. I've decided I won't be going back. The Dutch-speaking guests at the next table received wonderful service and even got a second drink. We only got our first drink, and we had to eat our meal without one, even though the empty glass was clearly visible. The table was wiped down while we were still getting up. We had to pay at the counter without a receipt to verify the total. Paying separately wasn't an option either. All in all, very frustrating, and we won't be going back. But I'm sure the staff doesn't care; they're confident in their customers. Why bother trying?

Very expensive. Pancakes (!) cost double digits, as does a Margherita pizza, and a schnitzel is almost €30. If I go to a good restaurant in Germany, I might pay €15 for a schnitzel. In the end, there's no bill, not even when I ask for one. They charge for an extra plate for children (just the dishes). I can't understand the prices at all. Even at a beach pavilion with a sea view, I would have found it excessive, but this is absolutely outrageous.

We arrived around 6:45 pm. The restaurant was very busy, and we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The service was excellent and attentive. The hostess and her staff were friendly and genuinely caring. We felt welcome and were treated to a delicious and beautifully presented dinner (cod and kip sata), accompanied by a tasty white wine. The portions were so generous that we didn't even need dessert. It was a lovely evening in a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you (your guests from table 9)

I had a very nice experience at this restaurant. The vegan cheese on the pizza was no longer available, but I got an alternative pizza instead that was delicious and also vegan! It wasn't on the standard menu, but they can make it if you ask for it :)

We ate here tonight for my husband's birthday. With our drinks order, we were given regular beer instead of 0.0%. After an hour, we asked if we could order. The main courses came with lukewarm, soggy French fries. On the menu, they mention homemade thick fries. The second drinks order didn't go through; we had to ask for that as well. In the end, the bill was €171.00 without a receipt... So this was incorrect; it was €150.00. For €150, we will eat somewhere else next time.

One person (!!!!) ran the restaurant. This person was responsible for service, the bar, and the cooking. It was the worst food ever. The pancake was a crepe with a slice of bacon and cheese (for over €13). The onion soup I ordered was flavored water with a piece of cheese bread (3x2 cm) floating on top. If they had boiled the employee's filthy apron, the soup would have been delicious. Never again will I eat here.

We ate here between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The steak was delicious, and the service from Janny (the owner) was friendly. We were allowed to bring our dog inside. There was a German group with eight dogs, and as we were leaving, they guided us past them with our land shark. We will definitely be back. The photo of the steak itself was unfortunately out of focus, but it was delicious.

Cozy restaurant with a pleasant terrace. Service was prompt and they even arranged for the main course to be brought out. We had the steak surf and turf and spare ribs. Both were delicious and perfectly seasoned. The steak was beautifully rare, and the spare ribs fell off the bone smoothly.

The staff was friendly, the atmosphere cozy, but unfortunately we had to wait an hour and a half for our food. We were told it was because of the appetizer we had ordered. The food itself was fine.

Today, three of us visited the very clean restaurant "Brasil." No problem at all - the super-friendly staff member showed us to one of the free tables. We quickly selected our drinks and food: 1 x onion soup 2 x surf and turf with side dishes 1 x Wiener schnitzel with mushroom sauce, fries, and salad 1 x draft beer 2 x Sprite (8 bottles in total) About the food: The onion soup was freshly made and very tasty. The surf and turf was very nice to look at and tasted great. The Wiener schnitzel was large, beautifully breaded, and, like the fries, very tasty. The generous portions were very generous. The extremely attentive and efficient staff member even treated us to a few nightcaps on the house. The prices were also absolutely reasonable. We highly recommend it.

Yesterday, we dined at Restaurant Brasil with a group of 14 people, including two babies. Four of us require gluten-free meals, so we inquired beforehand about their availability. The service was excellent, and everyone enjoyed their meal. They also took their time with those with gluten-free options, ensuring no mistakes were made. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

We had delicious pancakes here, topped with excellent toppings, especially the special one with goat cheese, walnuts, raisins, and apple! It's highly recommended, and the service was also quick!

Upon arrival, we were given the choice of sitting inside or outside under cover. We chose outside, but unfortunately, we didn't notice the ashtrays. The 15-meter terrace was half open, while I was sitting in the closed half. According to overheid.nl, a conservatory/veranda is a smoking area, and smoking is not allowed there. Halfway through my plate, a German woman was smoking a meter behind me. But the very friendly waitress more than compensated. The pancake was a 6 out of 10, not quite cooked through, bordering on the edge, which is understandable when it's busy, and my partner's steak wasn't quite medium. But it was peak hour, so perhaps this is the best we could do. Brasil, thanks for the feedback. It's entirely in keeping with the quality of the food, which lacks substance.

We could hear talking and shouting in the kitchen. One waitress was being called to the carpet by another. We found this disturbing. You don't do that with customers eating nearby.
