If diners think this is good French food, you have no idea! First visit, when it first opened was great; subsequent visit OMG so mediocre...still high prices served with mediocrity on a plate! If you can't get a simple Nicoise salad right (instead of tasting like cheap supermarket ingredients), there's something seriously wrong here. Staff and atmosphere are satisfactory but it is the terrace that tempts diners as it is just such a great marketing 'facade'. Garcon, the sister restaurant is much the same...WAY overpriced mediocrity expanding exponentially taking over good retail spots. That pretty much sums up most of Beethovenstraat's and Oud Zuid's dining scene with a couple of exceptions, really...... C'est dommage!

The brasserie is located in a nice part of Amsterdam. You can eat outside on the terrace in the sun or inside. The tables are laid classically. The service is attentive and neat. They have a very extensive wine list. If you want to go crazy, you can also select a top wine for a few hundred euros. The menu is delicious and something for everyone. We had oysters as an appetizer and a delicious Steak au Poivre. In addition, a nice and mixed audience that comes to stay here.

Originele plek om te lunchen of dineren. Eten is van goede kwaliteit. Bij mooi weer is het mogelijk om op het terras te lunchen. Terras is redelijk afgeschermd met schermen tegen weersinvloeden. Reserveren is aan te raden om bijvoorbeeld niet aan de bar te hoeven eten.

Indicating your wishes on the site if, for example, you have a lactose problem is pointless. Not taken into account in any way. They come up with something on the spot which ends in a dry mouthful of nothing. It wasn't busy so that was no excuse. Just too much Amsterdam-South arrogance with a hint of disdain. We see this more and more often in Amsterdam. Food was ok. Brioche with six pieces of chicken, a layer of avocado sauce and a lettuce leaf...17 euros.

We hadden hier lunch, ontvangst vriendelijk, maar ga niet voorin zitten als het winter is, ondanks de tochtdeur komt er vreselijk veel kou naar binnen. Als je eenmaal zit is het soms moeilijk de aandacht van het bedienend personeel te trekken. De rose cremant van Poepel is bijzonder mals in de mond, heel smakelijk. De brioche met foie gras was de 25 euro bij lange na niet waard, de paling bovenop het minieme plakje foie gras overheerste en was ook nog eens te koud. De kroketjes met comte kaas waren laf van smaak, je proeft amper de kaas en is de naam kroket niet eens waardig want gemaakt met een of andere dikke deeglaag eromheen. Bah. De Caesar salade was perfect, smakelijk en rijk gevuld. De steak tartaar komt zonder frites, die moet je apart bij bestellen en betalen, raar. De bestelde truffel zat er niet op en moest nog gehaald worden. 35 euro voor een steak tartaar met wat truffel maar zonder frites is echt veel te duur. De ambities van een grande brasserie worden hier (nog) niet waargemaakt.

Vriendelijke ontvangst, alles was zogenaamd gereserveerd dus we werden in een klein hoekje naast de voordeur gedirigeerd aan een bistrotafeltje en ongelukkige stoeltjes. Vlotte gastheer maar die verdween verder uit beeld en werden bediend door een schooljongens van hooguit 17 die heel erg zijn best deed maar zero horeca ervaring had. Hadden er al eens eerder gegeten een paar maanden geleden, inmiddels hebben ze de prijzen gigantisch verhoogd. De steak au poivre is nu opeens 36€ ((Was in augustus nog 26 of 28€...) en daar komt dan nog frites bij à 6 € en sla à 6€ bij= 48€. Niet bepaald bistro prijzen. Echter uitstekende steak met verrukkelijke pepersaus. Vooraf 3 karige coquilles, ook verder goed maar ook weer tegen een heftige prijs (24€). De wijnen gaan minstens 3 à 4x over de kop en zo kost de goedkoopste Sancerre 72€. Past totaal niet in de Franse bistro filosofie van juist de toegankelijkheid van het genre. Zo kom je met z'n tweeën zonder dessert met een fles water en 2 espresso uit op een denderende 240€. En of dat het dan waard was gezeten aan een wankel tafeltje met een kind in de bediening..... Bij het weggaan om 20.30 uur was overigens hooguit 20% van de tafels bezet, dus hoezo 'alles is gereserveerd...'

We were truly taken care of by Chef Michael at the Chef’s Table - it was such an unforgettable dining experience! With front row seats, we saw how Chef Michael and his team prepared each dish with passion and precision. We loved each dish especially the oysters, langoustine and duck! If you’re lucky you may even get to try his signature dessert. Can’t recommend it enough!

It's a good place. Not excellent - the devil is in details. + steak tartare had good balance of acid and saltiness + tenderloin was juicy and the pepper sauce was goos + waitress was nice and friendly + inside was quite cozy - why would tartare come w/o yolk and sauce? Why do I have to pay 30eur for this - noone offered us a bread basket. Which is nonsense when you serve escargot and all the herbs and butter need smth to collect - feels like i was cheated on lobster's claws - there is definitely more meat in those - waited 10 mins to pay after we got a bill - light on the wall was blinking, which was quite annoying

Went to dinner with colleagues. The food was certainly good but the price/quality ratio was a bit out of balance. The wines were also relatively expensive. With the dessert (cheese board) no explanation was given about the presented pieces of cheese. All in all not bad but too expensive for what you get.

What an asset! 'Dad's' been on the road for a year and a half, but what a well-oiled machine. Some surprising dishes on the menu and a great experience because of the trio of chefs led by Driss. The Chef's Table is often the best place for a fun evening, but this one will undoubtedly stick around for a while. The extremely relaxed atmosphere and beautiful menu colored our evening in the combination with the nice connection with the kitchen. Definitely do it - we will be back!

Had a delicious meal with my wife on Christmas Eve. It's nice and cozy. The Brioche with eel and Foie Gras was delicious, as was the steak tartare. The Duck Breast was one of the tastiest I have eaten to date, super tender and well seasoned. During this busy evening, the service was friendly and exuded calm. This was also noticeable during dinner. Highly recommended! We look forward to visiting Willams Farmhouse soon.

….oddly enough one of the reviews shows proof of double standards of giving an other guest cancel on terrible served wine One that should be added to dessert wines being so sweet and bad tasting The have to open a bottle for you to try wine of choice. So if you decided you didn’t like the taste the restaurant has the risk of ending up with an open bottle. Unpleasantly they still charged the whole bottle. We tried maybe 1-3 sips and it was way too sweet. The response was very cynical and arrogant. As we didn’t expect it to be soo sweet everyone can make a mistake. We behaved decently and I took 1-2 sips same as testing to find out that it was out of balance Wine is at its best with its poured into proper size wine glass but the guy didn’t get it….while they sell over 50+ wines. Nonetheless it shouldn’t be such a hassle if someone asks kindly ! Will you respond the same to someone prestige if they ask for a glass that is more suitable? I’m half convinced it wouldn’t….as Dutch people are pretty demanding in such places After having starter, main and desert this was a slap in the face. If we mentioned and agreed to taste the wine beforehand they would end up with an open bottle as well…. Yet they decided to charge this bottle so tipping was not the right thing to do anymore. AFFER Not mentioning they would charge the not so nicely tasting wine and they seemed annoyed from the start! I been to Paris many times and never stumbled upon arrogant behaviour bc the French deliver unlike these socially uneducated restaurant staff If you wanna be all French and really be a decent restaurant learn from the hospitality in Paris! I had potatoes out of the oven spring 2024 yet the server passive aggressively told me they didn’t carry it for about a year….which is obviously not true. While I clearly told her french fries and potatoes out of the oven. She faulted me why she was just so busy as my friend overheard me ordering clearly….the lady in question bluntly said I was lying ! How do you even discuss with a quest ? The food is partly great; meat dishes are fresh. Don’t take the add-one of truffel it’s tasteless. Paying 15 euro for truffle that has no taste…even on my fries is a pretty bad Starter with caviar not any taste either….as caviar is pretty salty and flavourful Very bland Green salad were just leaves while before was served with haricots verts and radishes. Making it special and suitable for the overall menu and pricing. So actually they are serving less for the same price But the service is not a match with the greatness of Parisian cuisine and the warmness of the French people. Believe it or not even middle class restaurant are the most welcoming and service oriented places in France Staff is unprofessional and complaining loudly. . I guess they are nice to people who fit the look of “old money” or I don’t know why you would be so rude to guests that could decide to come more often and hence support your business. They obviously don’t care! We felt like second range citizens in all honesty We trusted that it would be somewhat decent wine as you should expect for this “high end” and 25 euro per starter “brasserie” Don’t visit this restaurant with double standards and staff that treats people with little respect Left us a bitter taste in the mouth after having a celebration and being utterly respectful to the staff who had a “busy” night and even an ambulance popping up with a guest blaming them for the fall she made on the stairs going down the toilet. Leaving her with a bleeding bump on her head I felt bad for the staff but I don’t actually anymore They didn’t care at all to make us leave with a nice feeling after spending almost 300 euro

WARNING! NOT KIDS FRIENDLY RESTAURANT! MOST RUDE SERVICE EVER! We came to this restaurant for family dinner with our son who is 1 year old. And when in a middle of dinner our son started talking in his own language (not even crying) Lars from restaurant approached us and asked "if we can do something about it?". When I asked if kids are not allowed in this restaurant, he answered: "kids are allowed, but only of they are not crying"?!? So I asked what he wants us to do he offered to go downstairs to WC area or outside. I was absolutely shocked!!! Of course evening was totally ruined by this argument and we left right after min not even finishing the order. And cherry on top, my husbands coat was given back soaked wet in alcohol... waitresses said some ridiculous excuse about condensate.

It was the worst experience ever. We came for dinner with our family. The food was ok, but it definitely wasn't worth the money spent... Service we got - in one word it was terrible. Our son, 1y.o. was talking a lot his own language (even not crying).. and just imagine - we were "kindly" asked to leave the restaurant because of that! They expel kids from the restaurant! Greetings to "service star" of the place - Lars! Finally, when we were leaving, they brought my wet coat. Apparently, someone spilled alcohol on it... Do not go there! Don't bring kids to this place!

We had high expectations, but these were far exceeded. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. Vriendelijk ontvangst, echter blijkt achteraf dat tafels voor anderen wel beschikbaar zijn. Service na gezeteld te zijn is echt onder de maat. Tergend lagszaam terwijl er weinig mensen in de zaak waren. Wel heeft het personeel uitgebreid de tijd voor vrienden... Eten is inspiratie en smaakloos. Wel mooi opgemaakte borden, jammer dat de kwaliteit tegenvalt. 6EUR voor een broodje met boter en 6EUR voor een portie frietjes is echt te veel van het goede. Uiteindelijk 80EUR afgerekend voor een zeer matige lunch zonder wijn. Eens maar nooit meer.

Nice place, nice classic menu and wine list. Decor fantastic. Unfortunately, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Wait half an hour for the menu, wait half an hour for the menu, wait half an hour for the dessert menu. There are 6 people running and no one makes eye contact, which is a real shame. Especially busy with each other. I find a chef with a cigarette behind his ear unhygienic and inappropriate. If they pay attention to this, it really is a great thing.

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. It’s a very chic French-inspired restaurant. We often come here for coffee, meals, or breakfast, and we love it every time. Their crème brûlée is one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The meats were also excellent, cooked just the way I like, and the sauce was so delicious.

The dishes follow each other in rapid succession. The space between the tables is extremely tight. The controls bumped into you with some regularity. The noise level inside is that of a market hall.

We were really impressed. Dutch and super attentive staff. My health is not good and I don't walk well. I was immediately given an easy chair and made myself comfortable. I like everything and it is difficult to choose when there are so many tasty things on the menu. The waitress suggested that I could combine all kinds of small dishes. This way I could try everything. Good wine, good food. Great crowd and I think the decor and atmosphere are fantastic. We will definitely come back. We also think the sister company Café Garcon is a nice restaurant. Delicious food and good atmosphere.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Yes, it can get crowded—it's a current hot spot. Yes, the service can sometimes be hit or miss—after all, we are in Amsterdam. But the food, wine, and atmosphere more than make up for it. The lamb chops are among the best in the city, and if you enjoy thin, crispy fries, they are a must-order. Be sure to ask for wine recommendations, even by the glass—they know their stuff and occasionally have off-menu selection that are simply superb. The atmosphere is classic French brasserie, and as my French friend remarked, it feels like being in Paris. The crowd is dressy, adding to the overall vibe. I've been here at least five times already and will keep coming back, even if just for the lamb.

the location is good, the atmosphere is oke, it's a miracle it's crowded every evening. we had to wait 60 minutes and reclaim the waiter before we got our entrées. the main course was a similar drama, we had to reclaim the water several times. the staff is young but oké, they can't help it either, but every time sorry sorry is too much of the same. The quality from our food was oké, be it overpriced for what we got and how it was served. We, both couples, shared a turbot with french fries and salad, in accordance with the menu. The turbot arrived whole on the table, we had to do everything ourselves, which is very unusual to me. The salad was a very small portion, just fit for 1 person to be shared between 2, taste very good. French fries the same story as the salad. The espresso coffee was lukewarm and tasted like 'slootwater' (duch for water from the canal). For me, the standing of a restaurant depends on the coffee. Nowadays it's so easy to serve a good cup of coffee but all the capsule machines around. So when the coffee is terrible, it's the end of the story. I'm curious how long this place will exist.

I was initially very excited, but every dish ended up being disappointing. The steak tartare with potato and caviar had a potato element that was too overpowering in flavor. It could have been much thinner to allow the steak tartare and caviar flavors to shine. The escargots were okay; I enjoy garlic, but my partner found it too strong. If you’re not a garlic lover, this dish isn't for you. The most disappointing was the 'Langoustine Rossini,' which turned out to be just a chunk of white fish with an overcooked tiny langoustine and overcooked duck liver on top. The name 'Langoustine Rossini' is misleading because it was actually a white fish with a tiny langoustine added. None of the flavors complemented each other well. I'm unsure if there's been a change of chef, but I am surprised by the reviews that say the food is so good. It was really overpriced for what we received. The service was good, the interior was nice, and the location was great, but ultimately, I come for the food, and I will not be returning.

Lunch was not a success. when ordering 1 glass of extra champagne it took fifteen minutes (even after 2 reminders), and the new champagne was dead. For 15 euros you expect a good glass of champagne. got 6 oysters instead of 9, it took a very long time before the last 3 arrived. Missing cutlery... Didn't get a green salad as ordered, halibut was quite tasteless (fries also came halfway through the main course). Conclusion: super bad service and food was minimal. Food 6, service 2 hence a 4.

Gisteren waren we bij Brasserie Margaux in Amsterdam-Zuid. Op de site las ik over de klassieke Franse gerechten en de unieke, tijdloze sfeer. Ik was reuze benieuwd en had me echt op deze avond verheugd. We hadden om 18.30 uur gereserveerd. Bij binnenkomst werden we vriendelijk ontvangen en kregen we een tafeltje achter in het restaurant. De locatie is prachtig, met een gezellige en ontspannen sfeer. De bediening was oprecht aardig en behulpzaam en ook lekker snel, wat we erg waardeerden. Onze drankjes werden bijvoorbeeld snel geserveerd en ook de kaart kwam meteen op tafel. Als voorgerechten kozen we voor 'La Signature de Margaux', bestaande uit gekonfijte aardappelkrokantjes met steak tartaar, bieslook en kaviaar, en de gebakken coquilles met doperwtencrème, doperwtjes, beurre blanc, zeekraal en salade. Ook de oesters met romige zilte smaak, citroen en Mignonette saus waren echt heerlijk. Als hoofdgerecht hadden we de gegrilde kreeft met knoflook, peterselie en groene salade. Wat een feest was dat! De smaken waren voortreffelijk, met superlekkere Franse frietjes en een zure salade die het geheel perfect aanvulden. Als dessert kozen we koffie met daarbij de Tarte Tatin met een bol vanille ijs erop en allemachtig, wat was dat verrukkelijk. Wat tevens belangrijk is om te melden, is dat je in dit restaurant erg lekker kunt zitten, zowel op de bank als ook op de comfortabele stoelen. Daarbij kun je prima aan tafel een gesprek voeren zonder dat de hele tent meeluistert. Dat komt ook een beetje omdat iedereen zo gezellig aan het praten en kletsen is. We zaten bijvoorbeeld naast een grote familie die het ook zichtbaar naar de zin had en van het eten en de sfeer aan het genieten was. Wat opviel, is dat er zoveel lachende gezichten waren. En dat is denk ik tekenend voor dit restaurant. Oké, oké, eerlijk is eerlijk, het was best prijzig, maar wat mij betreft was het het absoluut waard. Kortom, we hebben echt een hele fijne avond gehad met heerlijk eten, vriendelijke en behulpzame bediening en in een ontspannen sfeer. En daarom komen we graag een keer terug!

Yesterday we were at Brasserie Margaux in Amsterdam South. I had already read on the site about classic French dishes that are served in an accessible manner in a timeless place with a unique appearance, where both connoisseurs and casual eaters feel at home. Inside or outside, but always French style and with a smile. So I was very curious and was really looking forward to this evening. We had reservations for 6:30 PM. Upon entering we were kindly received and given a table at the back of the restaurant. The location is beautiful, with a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly and helpful and also quick, which we really appreciated. For example, our drinks were served quickly and the menu was brought to the table immediately. As starters we chose 'La Signature de Margaux', consisting of candied potato crisps with steak tartare, chives and caviar, and the fried scallops with pea cream, peas, beurre blanc, samphire and salad. The oysters with creamy salty flavor, lemon and Mignonette sauce were also really delicious. As a main course we had the grilled lobster with garlic, parsley and green salad. What a party that was! The flavors were excellent, with super tasty French fries and a sour salad that complemented it perfectly. For dessert we chose coffee and the Tarte Tatin with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and oh my goodness, it was delicious. What is also important to mention is that you can sit very comfortably in this restaurant, both on the couch and on the comfortable chairs. You can also have a conversation at the table without the entire tent listening. That's also partly because everyone is chatting and chatting so pleasantly. For example, we sat next to a large family who were clearly having a good time and were enjoying the food and the atmosphere. What was striking is that there were so many smiling faces. And I think that is typical of this restaurant. Okay, okay, let's be honest, it was quite pricey, but as far as I'm concerned, it was totally worth it. I had accidentally read a few really bad reviews beforehand, so I was a bit curious beforehand. And boy, am I now happy and enthusiastic about how we experienced our evening. That is why I cannot identify with those unkind reviews at all. In short, we had a really nice evening with delicious food, friendly and helpful service and in a relaxed atmosphere. And that's why we would love to come back!

This place is a strong attempt to match higher end restaurants in London or Geneva. Food is very good and menu changes seasonally. The ambience is great, you can see that the thought was put into decorating this venue. What suffers, as almost everywhere in the Netherlands, is the quality of service - forgotten orders, lack of pro-active approach to customer’s requests etc.

De atmosfeer in de zaak is goed, maar er zijn wel zaken die helaas vermeld moeten worden. Een signature dish van aardappelkrokantje met langoustine klinkt goed, maar de langoustine hadden ze net zo goed weg kunnen laten… zonde namelijk. Ook bij de cote a l’os absoluut geen perfectie: te ver, dus te droog. Maar de grootste sof komt dan nog: een half glaasje dessertwijn, chateau Suduiraut, met een inkoopprijs van rond de 45 euro de fles, in durven zetten a € 25,-/half glaasje is echt pure diefstal. Jammer, maar voor mij niet weer. Veel te duur voor hetgeen je mag verwachten.

Food was not bad but very overpriced. Service is very slow, we waited 20 minutes for the starters and paid almost 20 euros for a two boiled eggs which had no salt. The signature dish made of potato and meat had good taste however crumbled completely in my hands as I tried to eat it. Very arrogant atmosphere for the low quality service and food.

I love cafe Garson, so I was very excited to visit Brasserie Margaux. And it did not disappoint. The ambience is very classy - I was excited to dress up. The decor, atmosphere, dishes - enjoyed everything. The menu is only in Dutch - well the guests are also local. The only thing that I didn’t like - the seats at the back of the restaurant are very low and it’s very uncomfortable to sit on. The terrace is very vibrant!

The food was very tasty and so were the wines. However, communication between colleagues was not good, which meant that orders did not flow properly. We had a reservation until an end time (it turned out later) but when we only had half of our dessert we were asked to pay. Very abrupt ending without proper communication that we had to leave as another order had been taken 5 minutes earlier. For this price we expected different service.
