Brasserie Timmerhuis in Rotterdam Centrum

Little gem of restaurant! First time in an authentic Surinamese restaurant and I was totally blown away by the incredible flavours. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Rotterdam

I was visiting Rotterdam and keen to try some Surinamese food, so found this place. I went with a group of 12. They were very helpful explaining the dishes on the menu. The food was great. I had the pom. The outside seating area is in a very quiet covered area that feels more like a lobby than outside.

A bit hidden, quite nice, the owner did talk a lot/long with the guests (cosy then becomes pushy).

We had a really delicious meal here. Had the mixed snacks beforehand, these were tasty but not very special. As a main course, the nasi with satay. This was really delicious, I really felt like I hadn't eaten for days. Not too spicy but a good bite, delicious tender chicken... for me this was 100% worth the money. The service is attentive. The place itself doesn't have much appeal, but with food like this it doesn't have to.

I had dinner here with some friends, and most of us ordered rice or noodles with chicken and vegetables. We also decided to try the house dessert, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. On top of that, the prices are very affordable for the quality of the food and the staff was friendly and fun :)

Real food from real persons. Denis and Rishma are simply amazing. They shared love through food, and shared a bit of their stories. It is like to eat at home, as family. The taste is also super! I ordered takeout, and the chicken was so delicious. The noodle dish looks like spaghetti noodles heated in a microwave, which is a bit disappointing, but the chicken is so delicious that I give it 5 stars.

This restaurant is located in a very special location in the Timmermanshuis and from the Haagse Veer. The Halvemaanpassage named after the Halvemaansteeg which did not survive the war. The owner is very friendly. Strange that the discount via The Fork only applies to the main course (a complaint I read in other reviews). Starter: satay and chicken soup. Main course roti and chicken curry. Both are too dry and that takes away the taste. "Forgot the gravy" said the owner. The back of the store is not very atmospheric and it is busy with mosquitoes. In short, 3 stars.

The restaurant might serve great food but I'll never know as they were closed within their opening hours, not to mention on my reservation. Big sad

Very friendly people. The saoto soup beforehand was delicious. But we didn't think our main courses tasted great (roti and noodles with chicken), my wife can definitely do a lot better at home! Perhaps that is also because we eat it fresh from the pan and not from the microwave. And there were a lot of mosquitoes inside. The owner explained that there was little he could do about it and that the entire building was affected. So I don't blame them either. But it does affect the atmosphere. Hopefully it will be over soon for them. Parking is easy, just a few minutes' walk away in the Meent parking garage.

I was a bit disappointed. I love Surinamese food and I had read something about this place, so my expectations were high. Sat there and ordered some sandwiches, a portion of satay and drinks. It tasted okay, but hey, tastes differ. I tried it.

I'm definitely coming back sometime soon to try out other dishes. I had a delicious Télo Tempeh with a Ginger Lemon Taste mocktail, served by very welcoming staff. The food was ready quite quickly and presented neatly (it's across from an office of the municipality and they know their audience). As we were about to start eating, staff also brought some Madame Jeanette sambal, which really gave a nice punch for those who dared to add it to their meal.

Delicious food, tasty and good price. On request they also gave Madame Jeanette crushed pepper. This completed the meal and made for a good roti chicken curry. The fresh ginger juice was also tasty and had a strong taste, this was among the mocktails. Unfortunately the table was sticky. Very friendly and hospitable staff. I would like to come back here again and will ask for a cloth to be wiped over the table if necessary.

This is a very good restaurant! Great food, se delicious, which I like the Pom and oven chicks a lot. They have great service, host and his colleagues are so friendly! We will come back for sure! Na enige tijd weer bij Brasserie Timmerhuis gaan eten en werden zoals altijd vriendelijk ontvangen. Als voorgerecht zijn wij gegaan voor een kleine Saoto soep die goed gevuld was. bij het afruimen van het voorgerecht werd er netjes gevraagd of dat het hoofdgerecht; 1 Nasi Sate en 1 Bami Sate al bereidt mocht worden of dat ze nog even er mee moesten wachten. Dit voorkomt dat men het eten wellicht te snel achter elkaar zou krijgen. Het bestek staat op tafel zo ook de Ketjap voor in de soep. Bij de Saoto soep wordt verder nog pittige saus geleverd voor de liefhebbers. Bij de Bami Sate hadden wij gevraagd voor de satesaus apart en die werd er dan ook netjes naast geserveerd. Al met al weer heerlijk gegeten.

Back in Rotterdam for a few days and looking forward to Surinamese. Found Brasserie Timmerhuis, because this is one of the few places where you can sit comfortably. The warmest welcome in a restaurant EVER. Delicious food and a long chat and laugh with the owners. The evening couldn't have been better. If you want delicious and cozy Surinamese food, go eat at Dennis and Rishma! ❤️

This difficult to find surinamese (not Indian) place is located within a multifunctional building and obviously caters for the business lunch clients as the lunch menu is longer than the diner menu. The menu is smaller than other roti houses, the starters were ok although the lompia came straight out of a packet. The choice for vegetarians is quite limited, even the basic roti was missing! We had bakkeljouw but it was not very salty, quite bland. Given the size of Rotterdam I would look for something more varied and authentic next time!Nice people just not my culinary style unfortunately.

Food was good, towards pricey side for surinamese food but they serve it nicely with big portion and also due to the location. Staffs are all friendly. We take away half of them because we just could not finish and they are nice to give us containers. If you use the fork app, remember to book it in advance!

We had dinner with 2 people. I often eat Surinamese food at eateries, so I was curious how this place could provide added value. Not successful, price/quality disproportionate. Ordered veggie saoto but got chicken. The owner tried to make something of it with a chat. Roti dish chicken and tempeh with nasi also not very tasty (with iceberg lettuce without dressing). Reserved via the fork but did not receive the 30% discount...very strange. Another story about a 30% discount for the first 10 reservations. We just missed out... First and last time.

Owners are such a lovely couple who is happy to share the background of their cuisine. Food was nice. The portions were quite big so come hungry..

De brasserie zit verstopt in een hal. Doordeweeks zullen ambtenaren het wel vinden, maar in het weekend zit het uit de loop. De tafels voelen kleverig aan. Het lijkt ook dat de zaak te klein is om alle spullen uit het zicht op te slaan. Het oogt hierdoor wat rommelig. Qua eten viel het tegen. Sauto soep viel nog mee. Maar daarna werd het minder. De roti viel zwaar tegen. Leek wel gummi. De salade ernaast voegde weinig toe aan het geheel. De bakeljauw met tilo viel ook tegen. Bakeljauw was waterig en de hoeveelheid in vergelijking met de tilo te weinig.

Prijs kwaliteit viel tegen. Kleine porties maar veel duurder dan andere Surinaamse eethuisjes. Eten was niet veel beter dan wat ik weleens eet bij andere eethuisjes. Vriendelijke medewerkers en leuke sfeer.

Gister wezen eten bij timmerhuis. Leuk eettentje met open keuken en parkeerplaatsen (betaald) in de buurt. De eigenaresse die in de keuken stond kwam meteen bij binnenkomst aan dat er weinig personeel was op dat moment, wat ik heel netjes vond zodat je hier rekening mee kunt houden. De dame was zeer sociaal en heel lief en ook de andere medewerkers.

Lekker gegeten, vriendelijke en gastvrije bediening. Zaakje zoals het hoort, in alle facetten, timmeren aan de weg, schoon sfeervol, klantvriendelijk en uiteraard goed eten.

Bedrijfs feestje gehad ,voor de bouwvak, lekker gegeten , je krijgt zelfs nog een tas met eten mee indien over! Vriendelijk personeel! Kon zelfs je eigen nummertjes met muziek draaien!.

Het eten was echt super lekker. Service was geweldig is echt een service met een glimlach en iedereen is super beleefd. De sfeer verder was ook echt heel fijn. Al met al een top restaurant ik zal hier zeker vaker komen, en raad ook zeker iedereen aan hier een keertje te eten.

First time trying Surinamese food and it really is a mix of many different cuisines. The service was the absolute highlight of this experience though. The waitress was nice enough to walk me through the menu and give me a little background on the food. 6 stars for the service.

Wat heb ik hier heerlijk gegeten zeg!! De Saoto was super lekker! Eet ik niet altijd buiten de deur want je weet niet iedereen kan een goede Saoto maken. De Telo was geweldig! Het was crunchy aan de buitenkant en fluweelzacht aan de binnenkant. De bakkeljauw was echt goed op smaak en de hete peper die erbij wordt geserveerd is yummie. De Pom moet je ook echt proberen, I loved it! Je proeft de liefde in het eten en alles is met zorg en aandacht gemaakt. De gerechten zijn authentiek en smaakvol. Ik kom hier zeker nog heel vaak terug. Rishma, ik heb je pas gisteren leren kennen maar wat een power vrouw en geweldige kok ben jij zeg! Bedankt voor een fijne avond.

Bij binnenkomst ruiken we meteen de diverse kruiden van de Surinaamse keuken; dan weet je dat het eten goed is 😋 De brasserie zit een beetje verstopt en je verwacht niet dat het naast het gemeentehuis zit. Bij binnenkomst worden we meteen vriendelijk ontvangen en mogen we zelf een plek uit zoeken. Vriendelijk personeel en snelle service 😌 Het eten was echt goed!!🔥🔥🔥 Hier proef je Suriname zoals het hoort 🇸🇷 De saoto soep was perfect qua hoeveelheid en smaak, beter dan dit krijg je niet in Rotterdam!! Ook de telo (gebakken cassave) met bakkeljauw was perfect gebakken. Voor de mensen die van peper houden zit je ook aan het juiste adres, want je krijgt madame jeanette sambal erbij en ook pinda sambal. As a tourist, this is a hidden gem. Great service and recommendations. Absolutely delicious fusion food! Ask for their home made hot pepper. It’s hot-liciois!

Excellent value for money if you use "the fork" 50% discount on all main dishes! The pork dish was excellent, so as the Surinamese dessert cake.

Hele relaxte omgeving met authentic Surinaams eten. Geen gehaast en je zit zo maar 2.5 uur aan de tafel zonder dat je het door hebt. Prijs / kwaliteit prima in orde. Goede cocktails voor €8.50.

Abbiamo passato una serata piacevolissima in amicizia. I proprietari anche fin troppo cordiali, ci hanno spiegato tutti i piatti pazientemente. Posizione centrale e luogo accogliente. Buono tutto, consigliato!

Vriendelijke eigenaren, goede service. Lekkere smaakvolle gerechten. Tot mijn grote verbazing hebben ze hier standaard aloo roti platen (aardappel) in plaats van kikkererwt of gele spliterwten, zoals gebruikelijk bij de meeste surinaamse eethuizen.. de aloo plaat is naar mijn mening zoveel lekkerder, dus de keuze was snel gemaakt! Roti... en wauw! die was echt fantastisch! Goede verhouding aardappel, kip en kouseband. zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.. Télo met bakkeljauw erg lekker... de Adjuma sambal erg smaakvol. Sowieso nog een keertje terug om de andere gerechten te proeven!

Eten was weer heerlijk en de bediening goed en vriendelijk. Jammer dat het restaurantje zo verscholen zit.. Komen snel weer terug.

Leuke en warme ontvangst en bediening, daarom toch nog 3 sterren. Maar sfeer was niet zo goed, want (toevallig?) waren er slechts nog 2 andere klanten. En eten was wel ok als smaak, maar zeker niets vers gekookt, en alles via microgolfoven opgewarmd: onze beide hoofdschotels waren zeker niet door en door opgewarmd, dus lauw, en gevaarlijk voor gezondheid. En was dit echt authentiek Surinaams? Tafels waren ook nog wat kleverig, en dat stoorde, dus niet zo goed schoongeveegd.
