Our first night in Amsterdam and we had the most amazing meal here. Everything was delicious. Our reader was charming and helpful and even told us about a local coffee shop to try.

Early dinner on a blisteringly hot day. Hits the right notes. Nice way to end the day.

This has been a favorite dining spot in Amsterdam for the last 10 years. The menu has changed over time but makes it interesting to try new items. The quality and culinary experience continue high. A definite should try when in Amsterdam.

Try the Stamppot, traditional Dutch comfort food. The Apple pie dessert is amazing

The restaurant was moderately busy when we went as a group of 5 for (late) dinner during a weeknight. Service was good and the meals were all tasty, without exception. Just note that the portion sizes are on the small side. The Dutch "stampot" was something I hadn't tried before, but I'd have again. A colleague had the cod fish dish which looked, smelled and apparently tasted delicious, and another had the rib-eye steak which he said was also good (however after having the best rib-eye the previous week elsewhere, I'm less inclined to rave about this one). Convenient location just across the street from the Renaissance Hotel we were staying at.

If you want traditional Dutch food, I highly recommend. We had the herring, cod and apple pie and waffle. All were top notch and service was great. Highly recommend!

Came here first in about 2017 and kept their card because our meal was so good. Roll forward to 2026 and I’m glad to report that in terms of taste, service and quality nothing has changed. My daughter had steak frites and I had the stamppot - plates cleared! We then shared a chocolate mousse that I will be dreaming about until my next visit, the photo doesn’t do it justice!!

We had some really nice food here and the waiting staff couldn’t have been more helpful, including recommending a great dessert for us. I really liked how clear it was on the menu which food was traditional Dutch food.

It would be a good place to go dancing, but it's impossible to chat while eating unless you shout; the music is much too loud. What a shame!

If you are in Amsterdam, and want a great Dutch meal, this is the place to go! We lived in the Netherlands for a few years and know a great Dutch meal. With any great restaurant, be sure to make a reservation helps them and you get a great table. Rick or Joe will meet you at the door and be happy to seat you, get you started with a drink and provide any advice for you. They speak great English and Dutch and probably other languages too. The team there was great, and food was fantastic. Great ambiance with a Brasserie feel. Great place if you have a big party, they served a big group next to us and they loved it as well. I had the ribeye and it was awesome. Top restaurant for our stay in Amsterdam! 5 Stars! Tell them Antonio sent you and they will probably say who? Might be fun.

Disastrous welcome. We had a reservation, we went in, and oh no, we hadn't seen the handwritten note saying to wait... So we went in a few meters... The waiter jumped on us, shoved us, and explained, quite angrily, that we had to stay in the entrance. So we left. What a shame.

Just had an amazing dinner at Van Speyk in Amsterdam. Amazing. Please make a reservation as they are very busy. Make the time you will not be disappointed.

Had dinner with my wife a couple of weeks ago and the food was delicious, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere was perfectly romantic and classy without the pretentiousness. Wife is a FA and is there weekly so we will be back

Make sure after they tell you mussels are out of season that that forget to continue on with the rest of your meal. We had an extra hour wait during our meal when they 'forgot’ about us. Other than that - it was a great meal and wonderful service.

The venue itself is lovely the atmosphere is well put together and genuinely charming. However, the service falls short. The host who greeted us was noticeably rude, which is a poor first impression for any restaurant. Food-wise, the French onion soup was a highlight well done. The ribeye, on the other hand, was disappointing for the price nothing memorable, just an average steak. The wines were easily the best part of the evening. Solid selection, well chosen. Overall: worth a visit for the ambiance and wine, but keep your expectations in check for the food and service.

The quality of the food was mediocre; the lamb chops had a very chewy texture, the filet mignon was just okay, the butter and bread were noteworthy, the service was too slow but above all it seemed that they forgot our dishes as they served people who arrived after us.

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Every dish was full of amazing flavours that complemented each other perfectly. The atmosphere was beautiful, creating a relaxed and enjoyable setting, and the service was warm, friendly, and never rushed. A special thank you to our waiter for recommending the apple pie—it was the perfect ending and did not disappoint. Thank you, it made a special night with my daughter.

Super nice little restaurant, cozy rustic style. The food was top-notch; for a big eater, it's best to order three courses. I personally had the Javastraat for the main course; it was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The service was very friendly, but after the main course we had to wait a long time before we could order coffee, and the same applied to getting the bill. I think they forgot about us for a moment.

Amazing quick service, tourist area, but full of locals, the service was quick and nice, the herring and fish is amazing. Highly recommend.

Beautiful restaurant perfectly located in Amsterdam Central. The staff could not be more helpful and were incredibly friendly. They made a real fuss of my daughter too. Food was exceptional. The cheesecake was unlike anything I’ve tried before. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something special.

We ordered steak and stampot with the mac and cheese to share. This was our favourite meal in Amsterdam! Service was really good, ambiance was great and food came quick. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

This restaurant was across the street from our hotel during our stay in Amsterdam! The interior is inviting and intimate & the chandeliers add to the charm. The waitstaff were super friendly and attentive! The food was high quality and delicious. I had the oysters, mussels and shrimp cocktail. I enjoyed the time spent here and what added to the mood was the awesome playlist of music! Nice!

Found this place by accident by our hotel. First time in was a great food experience, so much so that we wanted to eat there one more time before we left for home. Walking in without a reservation the manager did everything he could to accommodate remembering us and our interaction from before. I highly recommend their duck comfit. Best I ever had.

This is an excellent restaurant on every level. Our group was looking for a restaurant with traditional Dutch cuisine, and the food we ordered was absolutely fantastic. Service was warm and attentive, and if we were staying longer in Amsterdam I have no doubt that we would have eaten here a second time - it was that good! Highly recommend

Wonderful Dinner at Van Speyk. Service and atmosphere were excellent. Food was stellar. We had the Shrimp Croquettes, Beef Carpaccio, Lamb Chops, Gouda Mac n Cheese, and a great cheese plate! Highly recommended!

The good reviews are right; this restaurant is highly recommended. The carpaccio wasn't huge, but it was wonderfully creamy. The lamb was beautifully grilled, and dessert was served with sauternes. The restaurant filled up around 8:00 PM, so reservations are recommended.

The building is absolutely beautiful and the decoration and lighting makes it a very intimate and lovely experience. The food is basic food brasserie which is fine and as you expect it. Also the playlist is very fun, made me want to dance.

I ordered some lentils and my friend ordered some meatballs. His food was ok mine tasted nothing and the service was not good. I asked for help interpreting the menu but was told to come back later. I did not like the way we were greeted.

We didn’t have a reservation but were warmly accommodated, which was a wonderful surprise. The ambiance at Brasserie Van Speyk is elegant yet cozy — perfect for a relaxed evening in Amsterdam. We started with the haring appetizer, which was fresh and flavorful, followed by a mix of mains including lamb chops, steak, and fish — all beautifully prepared and delicious. The service was friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. A restaurant with a charming atmosphere, a warm welcome and excellent hospitality (special thanks to Erhan), excellent value for money, and a glass door leading to the kitchen, clearly showing that the logistics and hygiene are perfectly arranged (which also applies to the restrooms, by the way). Highly recommended! We arrived by chance and without a reservation, and they spontaneously made us a spot. The owner must be proud of these staff. I rarely encounter restaurants like this anymore! Hats off to the Speyk team!!!!!

What a relief to be warmly welcomed in Amsterdam by people who radiate joy in their work. The food is excellent, the wine delicious, and you don't have to wait an hour. The price-quality ratio is excellent. Simply a wonderful place where time flies and you leave feeling happy. A beautiful building, too!

Absolutely wonderful evening celebrating our friend’s 80th birthday. Everyone really enjoyed the food which was delicious (we had one gluten free and one vegetarian in our party who were catered for) and the staff really looked after us. Rick in particular was a great host. Lovely ambience too.

Picked this restaurant via Open Table because of its good reviews and because the menu looked interesting. My pick turned out to be great for a business dinner. The menu selection was limited but diverse and the flavors did not disappoint. Also, service was very attentive and friendly.

Nice staff but the food was really not restaurant worthy. I say this as a native Dutch person. Heavily overpriced and really not good quality. Save your money and go to another restaurant I would strongly advice.

The food was acceptable, but the service was horrible. They take a long time to bring the food, and they forget about unattended tables. The only thing they bring quickly is the check; everything else is super slow.

The food was great and the flavor was delicious, but a bit pricey for the portion size. However, the service was amazing the guy who served us was absolutely lovely from the very beginning, which is quite rare in Amsterdam.

Very friendly restaurant with lovely versions of traditional dutch dishes. No wait for a table, even on a Saturday night in August and were super patient even when we were the last people still there and we still wanted a coffee.

This is a special review of appreciation as the only vegetarian dish on the menu could be made vegan for me during an evening with colleagues and it was just *amazing*! It was delicious and felt very refine and cooked with care and not like a boring "veganizied" version. Huge thanks and compliments to a kind restaurant staff and cooks who accommodated my request so masterfully!! 💚

I visited van Speyk during my visits in Amsterdam By coincidence walking by the classic 17th century building and interior catched my eye and walked in for a dinner. I was very surprised by the quality of the food and The reasonable prices.menu is local food with French classics served by attentive waiters. Recommended and will return again.

Came here based on a nice look when we walked past and reviews here. It’s a lovely menu, top quality food, brilliant service and a lovely setting. Those chandeliers throughout are gorgeous as well as the general decor of the place. Some tables outside but mainly inside. Great story of the name of the restaurant. We only required a starter and main as we fill after this. Lovely bottle of wine. Lovely beer. Smiles all round from us on this one.

An elegant restaurant in the center of Amsterdam, with a fine cuisine. The Dutch specialties are preparerd with fresh ingredients and served with a touch of refinement. The codfish with fennel and white wine was delightful, the sauce well balanced and the skin of the fish very crispy. The fresh herring is the best you can find in the city, but the lamb cutlets were the best dish of the dinner.

One of my favorite meals on our vacation. The chicken kebabs with peanut sauce were delicious. My husband had the mussels and liked them. The waffle dessert was also great.

Charming place with some typical Amsterdam features, including the staircase leading to the basement restrooms. The staff is welcoming and courteous. The dishes are delicious and carefully presented. There's a nice wine list.

I saw a lot of people eating mussels but I did not try it. Seems like that might be their most popular item. I had the fish on the menu which came with some vegetables in a light sauce and some salad on the side. The salad was quite tasty, the fish was fresh but the vegetables were sad. All in all it was a great meal but nothing outstanding or worth the hype I had heard.

Our last night in Amsterdam, had a great dinner and service.

We were looking for Dutch food and we're extremely happy that we found Van Speyk via a Google search. We started with cocktails and an appetizer. The Bitterballen Garniture was delicious and had an assortment of Dutch treats. My wife had the lamb chops and I had the Staampot and we had a nice bottle of Spanish wine. The entrees were delicious. We continued on with dessert - apple tart - and coffees. We had absolutely no complaints about the food. The space, in a narrow old canal house, was charming with chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling and original beams exposed. Service was very friendly and efficient. The two waiters on duty tag teamed so we felt always looked after. Highly recommended.

One of the best dinners in Amsterdam! We shared appetizers of herring and bitterballen sampler, the white Chardonnay was awesome, the cod and lamb were each so delicious.do get the potatoes gratin as well. We finished the dinner with an apple tartine that was pure perfection!!! Thanks chef for giving us a superb dining experience as you are a master chef!!!!

Had a really great dinner at Brasserie Van Speyk. The highlight for me was the white asparagus soup—absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and a nice mix of classic and creative dishes. Would definitely come back.

We spent a very pleasant evening with family and enjoyed tasty Dutch cuisine. If you are not looking for refined gastronomy, and it is not the presentation of the restaurant, you will enjoy it there with great pleasure. Very nice setting. Be careful though with the little extras, water, bread, butter... which can cause the bill to rise without warning, higher than you would like!

Inicialmente estábamos emocionados con este restaurante. El entorno es pintoresco y encantador, y el menú ofrece una buena selección de platos tradicionales holandeses. Algunos de los camareros tenían un cálido sentido del humor y agregaron un buen toque personal. Lamentablemente, nuestra experiencia general se vio muy afectada por la lentitud extrema del servicio y la mala coordinación. Nuestra cena duró 2 horas y 15 minutos. Cada paso de la comida se sentía prolongado. Parecía que simplemente no había suficientes cocineros en la cocina, y el personal parecía abrumado. Lo que hace que la situación sea más frustrante es la falta de comunicación de los camareros. No hubo aviso previo sobre retrasos, ni actualizaciones, ni disculpas ni explicaciones en ningún momento. La coordinación entre el equipo también fue deficiente: nuestros cubiertos se limpiaron demasiado pronto, nos pidieron opciones de postres antes de haber recibido nuestro plato principal, y cuando los platos principales finalmente llegaron, eran tibios. Es una lástima, porque con un mejor apoyo en la cocina y un servicio más atento, este podría ser un lugar para comer realmente genial. Pero tal como está, la experiencia fue decepcionante.

We were initially excited about this restaurant. The setting is quaint and charming, and the menu offers a good selection of traditional Dutch dishes. A few of the waiters had a warm sense of humor and added a nice personal touch. Unfortunately, our overall experience was heavily impacted by extremely slow service and poor coordination. Our dinner took 2 hours and 15 minutes. Every step of the meal felt dragged out. It seemed there were simply not enough cooks in the kitchen, and the staff appeared overwhelmed. What made the situation more frustrating was the lack of communication from the waitstaff. There was no advance warning about delays, no updates, and no apology or explanation at any point. The coordination among the team was also lacking — our cutlery was cleared too early, we were asked for dessert choices before we had even received our main course, and when the main dishes finally arrived, they were lukewarm. It’s a shame, because with better kitchen support and more attentive service, this could be a truly great dining spot. But as it stands, the experience was disappointing.

Food was ok. But the waiter serving us had a lot of attitude. He was smug and answered every question with dry sarcasm. Made us feel that he was doing us a favor by serving us.

Very good menu for dinner. Recommended for starters: Carpaccio and Tuinsalade. Main plate we’ve followed the main options and all of them are approved! Lovely cheesecake to close and very good wine as per the staff’s recommendation.

We were a party of eight staying across the street at the Kimpton DeWitt hotel and our concierge recommended Von Speyk. We had a very nice dinner and Sonne (sp?) provided attentive and gracious service. If you’re in the area please do yourself a favor and check out this lovely restaurant.

Nos alojamos en el Kimpton (al otro lado de la carretera) y pedimos una reserva informal de restaurante. Recomendaron Van Speyk. La decoración es de opulentos candelabros y terciopelo por lo que se siente acogedor y glamuroso pero con un aire de informalidad. El menú es pequeño pero variado. Comí pollo satay y mi compañero el filete con patatas fritas. Ambas comidas estaban deliciosas y el filete (que probé) se derritió. Las bebidas eran muy buenas y el personal tan cálido y amable. Me dieron una pluma para recordarlos. Recomiendo encarecidamente.
