Amstel Restaurant in Weesperbuurt/Plantage

Big disappointment!!! We were dining at Amstel restaurant on Easter and had an amazing experience, so we decided to come back again for our 5 year anniversary. It ended up being the most frustrating experience and we regretted choosing this place for our special occasion. 1) 40-50 minutes between courses is not ok. We waited 50 minutes for someone just to take our order meanwhile the place was still half empty. And 2 tables that came after us already received their starters. 2) We ordered a 4-course menu and had to wait another 40 minutes to get our first starter. Then they started serving the main and we had to point it out that we ordered 4 courses that include 2 starters. So they realised they messed up our starters and brought us another one. However it was not tasty and cold like they just took it out of fridge. Also, the order of starters was supposed to be different which impacts the overall taste experience. 3) Three other tables complained about different things over the evening which made our atmosphere even more disappointing. 4) The person that was serving our table seemed in a rush all the time and kept refilling our wine but not water. 5) One of the staff said they are understaffed and also need to prioritise!!! boats that take dinners from them. I appreciate one of the managers (I assume) who came to us and apologised many times for that experience. They removed extra starters from our bill and offered coffee on them. I am still not sure if I decide to come back again. We are definitely not coming for any special occasions

Overall underwhelming. Expected a bit more at the amstel hotel. Food was nicely arranged but nothing special. Service started poorly considering the location but got better later. I wouldn’t go again. Location is beautiful on the river. Decor and interior is very traditional. Lacking a bit of a modern twist.

Not recommended, no service at all and very poor menu

After hearing a lot of positive reviews about the restaurant and the service at Amstel Hotel, I decided to have a coffee there and to enjoy the beautiful views of the Amstel river. Even though I have only ordered a coffee, the service was exceptional, our waiter, Gael, being very attentive and professional. I will definitely come back here!

We came here at the weekend for dinner with the 2 of us. Wonderful ambiance of course in the legendary building that is the Amstel Hotel. You are really in a different world than the city itself. Service nice, correct and friendly. Not too strict and formal, but just a nice chat like you have in the cafe. The food is of course faultless. It is a brasserie, not a star tent like La Rive was. So don't expect too many frills, but "just" a top meal, in a top ambiance with top service. A relief to pamper yourself without fuss and frills.

Great heritage of Amsterdam. Love the atmosphere, view and the ambiance. The venison was delicious. We had a great time here. A lot of people on private food gets catering from here.

Delicious food, walked in just before a performance in Carré and received great help. The food was delicious - the dessert, a Passion Fruit Martini, is absolutely amazing! And as icing on the cake, they brought the mobile phone that we had accidentally forgotten. A really great evening!

Best terrace in Amsterdam! Great service, food and an amazing view over the Amstel. The menu offers dishes for everyone, including vegans. I absolutely loved the roasted leek dish. We’ll be back!

Fantastic experience on a rainy Sunday evening. 3-course daily menu of high quality with fantastic personal and witty service. Kitchen and service absolutely top. Also reasonably priced. Recommended.

From time to time I eat and stay here, the restaurant is still very good over the years. In the early 1990s I often ate caviar with vodka in the lounge, and then went to the river view restaurant and had a delicious dinner there with a Chateau Chasse Spleen '64 that was on the menu for only 365 guilders! The creations concern dishes that were still perfect when I recently came to dinner with some business acquaintances. You can't go wrong here! Go for it if you want perfection! My compliments to the staff, because you will not easily find this in the Netherlands. The hotel room is also very good.

We had a dinner with four people and it was a lovely experience! I would like to send my appreciation to the staff and especially to George for making our dinner so pleasant. The service was perfect and the food well prepared, and I will keep telling people how beautiful the restaurant and the hotel is in general. (The venison was very tender and tasteful, I highly recommend it) Thank you for the dinner and for the staff at the entrance for taking pictures for us as well!

Great hotel bar if you are looking for comfort, drinks, and food. We were looking for a convenient place to eat, not knowing the area, went to the Amstel Hotel. Unfortunately we could not get in for dinner at their restaurant (didn’t have a reservation), but did happen upon their bar. Very nice place, excellent drinks and also offered food service.

Awful food, slow service, looks great but definitely is not. They appeared to be desperately understaffed. One young girl was brilliant in serving but she appeared almost tearful. 15 euros for a burger- with no salad or fries. they were extra 5 or 6 euros.

We celebrated grandma's 96th birthday tonight. What a great evening. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and the service was perfect. Especially Sabien!! She managed to put the finishing touches to the evening in a friendly and service-oriented manner. Definitely recommended for a festive occasion!☺️

I really like this place, the prices are expensive but the view and the quality of cocktails are worth it.

The best place to be at.i went there for my birthday and they really made the day special!! Everybody must go there once. They take care of all your dietary requirements I am in love with this place .

We’ve been to High Tea in the closed terrace, in a hot June afternoon. Food was good (my partner says: OK) and the service excellent, BUT it was very hot. Too hot to enjoy. They claim they have air conditioning, and you feel it in the bar, but not in the High Tea area. It’s not even possible to open a window. Pity they don’t serve it also in the open terrace.

Nice facilities and location…. however, the service, lack of attention to detail and the mediocre quality of the food made the experience an easily forgettable one. Definitely not coming back.

Beautiful setting, fantastic views and friendly staff.. and that's where the positives of our experience end. While the staff were super friendly, everything took forever. We had to ask for the menus, it took a while for our order to be taken and it took over 35 minutes to get our starters and child meal despite multiple asks to the waiters who seemed equally puzzled by the delays. The food was ok but didn't live up to the expectation of a five star hotel. I had the duck breast which was undercooked in the middle and my husband the Amstel burger which was average at best. If we go back, it definitely won't be for a meal but rather drinks to enjoy the views.

Uitstekend gegeten. Gisteren samen met familie bij dit prachtige restaurant aan de Amstel gegeten. Het restaurant ziet er heel huiselijk uit en heeft een mooie sfeer. Wij hadden gekozen voor het 4-gangen menu en deze was ontzettend goed. Er was ook goed rekening gehouden met de glutenallergie en dit was zelf terug te zien in het chocolaatje ipv koekje bij de thee. Bediening had veel kennis en was heel vriendelijk. Een hele geslaagde avond.

Everything was perfect . The food was exquisite as well as the service from the waiters.

Yemek öncesi sıcacık ekmekler ve üzerine sürülen mantarlı tereyağın tadı muhteşemdi.Yemeğimi yerken ve biralar 🍻 mı yudumlarken çok keyif aldım. Klasik bir atmosferi var.Kredi kartı ödemesi 2 kartta da hata verdi. Bu nedenle yanınızda nakit bulundurmanızı tavsiye ediyorum.Kesinlikle öneriyorum.

El sitio es muy señorial y realmente las vistas merecen la pena. La comida mediocre y el servicio para un lugar de este nivel deja bastante que desear. Un camarero fue especialmente desagradable. Tomamos risotto que parecía un arroz hervido, un Stark tratar normalito y una ensalada Cesar...q mira que es difícil equivocarse con este plato...pues tampoco. Luego nos lo bebimos todo a precio de cojon de pato la copa y ni unas almendras nos pusieron.

It was such a great experience to have dinner at Amstel Restaurant! The place was excellent, the view was perfect, the food was great, and the staff was amazing! We had the luck to be served by Maartje who was very professional and friendly! I will definitely come again and I will recommend the restaurant to all of my contacts coming to Amsterdam!

Vandaag voortreffelijk geluncht. Het was smaakvol en een vriendelijke bediening.

Bestel geen Cosmopolitan, smaakt nergens naar, en bestel geen Aperol spritz, smaakt naar mierzoete grenadine. Niet lekker en zonde van het geld!

Excellent location, great service, average food. Had a lovely diner on the terras with very friendly and attentive staff, great presentation. Despite the excellent ingredients the food was just ok. For the price I would say it was mediocre, but done to perfection on a great spot. If you are spending about 80 euro per person, you would expect excellent food, not just well done average food. One star is for the service, the food is just 2 stars, had better food at a friends party two days before.

Helaas, verre van wat het ooit is geweest. Slechte service voor het niveau wat ze pretenderen te zijn. Pleur je jas zelf maar ergens neer, kaart is zeer karig en om uitleg voor het menu moet je zelf vragen. Drinken wordt pas na de gang op tafel gezet. Vlees doorgebakken in plaats van medium. Wat zonde!

De locatie is fantastisch en met mooi weer zit je heerlijk buiten aan de Amstel. De bediening is ook prima maar het eten valt alweer tegen helaas. Vandaag een uiensoep en een clubsandwich besteld. Uiensoep was flauw met een dun niet krokant uitgesneden wit boterhammetje erin. Bij de clubsandwich was het brood doordrenkt met boter, daar overheen nog een vette saus, dikke plakken keiharde spek en om het qua vet nog af te toppen zat er ook nog eens een plak kaas op. Niet mijn idee van een lekkere clubsandwich. Daarvoor kan je beter naar Luxembourg op het Spui gaan!

Unfortunately this restaurant does not have one vegan option. In 2021 I find this pretty strange, especially in a place like Amsterdam. When I asked the server if the chef would prepare us a vegan option (something I thought given the low capacity of the restaurant at the time, would be an open and reasonable thing to ask), I was told the chef said he would simply remove the cheese from the risotto. Not what I was expecting at all. None the less we ordered the risotto which was delicious but not worth 29 euros. The water was also priced at 9 euros for a bottle which was a bit excessive. The ambience was nice and quiet and not very lively. The wait staff were nice but didn't seem very knowledgeable about the food as they had to ask around what was in certain menu items, and didn't explain any of the food to us when delivering it. Overall an okay experience, but can get much better value and ambience for your money in Amsterdam. 6/10

Heerlijke sfeer , mooi pand en zeer vriendelijk. Goed voor businesses meetings van Damac.

We had the 4-course dinner served on the terrace at the Amstel. The menu consisted of a ceviche, followed by pulpo, bavette and a desert. The food was of very good quality though nothing out of the ordinary. Service was very good.

Geweldige keuken, ambiance en bediening.

5* voor de locatie in de stad, 4* voor het eten, 3* voor die aardige ober die ons toch nog een tafeltje aan het raam regelde. Eten was lekker en het zitten aan de Amstel en m’n eigen gezelschap top. Echter- Bij aankomst werd onze naam/reservering doorgebeld, maar beneden moesten we wachten en moest onze naam opnieuw worden opgezocht. Het duurde op zaterdagavond een uur en aanschieten van een ober eer we onze eetkeuze mochten doorgeven. Ober gebruikte ons om z’n hart te luchten over dat het lastig was dat toen het kouder werd iedereen tegelijk naar binnen kwam (max 10 tafels?). Veel personeel heeft de mondbescherming onder i.p.v. op de kin zitten waardoor de mond niet wordt afgedekt, wat teleurstellend is (draag je mondkapje goed of helemaal niet). Kaasplankje lekker, wijn ok, maar een huiskamergevoel zoals de Parool het beschreef hebben wij niet herkend. Wat ons betreft niet direct een aanrader, tenzij je vooral voor de locatie komt. 2 personen en wijn- 180€

Great transformation from La Rive to Amstel restaurant!. We totally love the ambiance, the tasty modern food and the excellent highly professional, attentive service! The wine cellar at this place is remarkable - don't be satisfied with the wine choice you see on the food menu (although it's good), but ask for the separate wine list - you'll be amazed! This restaurant gave up the Michelin star to become even better.

I’ve had another absolutely amazing dinner experience at La Rive. I come here once or twice a year, visiting from the US, and the food, the service, the wines, the staff... they are all just unparalleled. I still have no earthly clue how they lost their Michelin Star, as I think their quality and the overall experience is just far superior to pretty much any other 1 or 2 star restaurant I’ve been to in The Netherlands. I will keep coming back as it’s become a tradition that I cherish and that’s just getting better and better.

We had some coctails and a couple of snacks here. The staff was very nice and gave us a detailed explanation of the different coctails, very professional. The coctails were great and both the veal croquettes and the cheese croquettes were super tasty. Overall we had a great experience and would visit again.

Op 18 januari 2019 samen met mijn dochter deelgenomen aan de Opulence Revealed Rémy Martin georganiseerd door A-Bar van het Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam. Voorafgaand aan de tasting werd ons een cocktail aangeboden in de bar waarna in één van de conferentiezalen van het hotel een presentatie werd gegeven over het huis Rémy Martin en de productie van deze cognac door International Brand Ambassador die speciaal voor dit event naar Nederland is afgereisd. Bij deze presentatie werden tevens twee soorten cognacs van dit huis geproefd: de VSOP en de 1738! Daarna in een andere zaal een bijzondere voortzetting van de presentatie en de tasting van Rémy Martin XO! In deze zaal stond een gigantisch gedekte tafel met allerlei lekkernijen die bij de tasting konden worden genuttigd. Daarnaast werd ook een uitgebalanceerd driegangen proeverij geserveerd door de chef van La Rive persoonlijk. Een perfect georganiseerde en bijzondere tasting in haar totaliteit, zoals wij dit gewend zijn van het Amstel Hotel en in het bijzonder van A-Bar. Wij kijken terug naar een mooie en leerzame avond. Met dank aan assistant F&B manager Niels Spronk en zijn team. Wij kijken uit naar het eerstvolgende tastingevent van het Amstel Hotel.
