I had a really good experience at this restaurant. We took the 5 course meal for 69 euros per person and it was really memorable, it tasted amazing and the personal was kind and explained everything very clearly. We sat outside and the view was great

First time here via Google. We were given a lovely, romantic spot by the window. We had a 5-course menu and an amuse-bouche that was too strong for us. After that, the kitchen really got us going. Every course was fantastic, the white wine tasted great. We had a wonderful evening. Thanks!

They have a 5 course and 7 course menu that are both incredible values. Nice big portions, and Michelin quality food for 70 euros a person

We travelled to Amsterdam especially with a view to visit this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. A wonderful atmosphere and brilliant staff. Then the food...absolutely delicious!! highly recommend.

Viajando aquí en Amsterdam, estábamos buscando un restaurante de barrio lejos de las zonas turísticas, que sirve un menú de vuelo superior, en un ambiente más pequeño acogedor. Comprobar, comprobar y comprobar - este es el lugar! Nos topamos con este lugar después de buscar el lugar al otro lado de la calle que estaba cerrada ese día. Pedimos ver el menú, pero no tenían uno, ya que el menú es lo que el chef decide para ese día. ¡Ese es el tipo de nuestro esfuerzo y arte en una comida que hace que todo lo que tuvimos esta noche sea tan grande! Tuvimos la comida de cinco platos (y nos acomodaron con una alternativa de pescado a la panza de cerdo y costilla de primera que eran los platos principales para la noche) que fue increíble, hasta el último detalle, que el chef aquí toma para asegurar, y se nota. Recomiendo encarecidamente y estamos agradeciendo a nuestros sentidos arácnidos por ser capaz de encontrar este lugar tan al azar.

Easily one of the best dining experiences I ever had. The food was both delicious and interesting in a way that has me looking for the right words to describe. Go with friends/family, share, and enjoy the service, the atmosphere, and the incredible flavors.

Lovely cosy space with delicious food and good service. The 5 course choice was a perfect one - more value for money versus a la carte :) dishes were flavourful and thoughtful and the staff were attentive. A good recommendation!

A big 5! Of course the food is great, fresh, tasty, creative. But the professional Dutch service is also fantastic. The real attention for the guest, the empathy, wonderful!

Not impressed. A bit messy. A bit stingy with pouring wine by the glass. Deposit was forgotten on the bill. Furthermore, the veal was delicious as was the rib steak.

We had a fantastic meal for our anniversary! A cozy place with good wines and delicious, creative dishes. If I may mention something, the meat knives could use some sharpening. Really a top place with a nice menu, definitely see you soon and thanks for a nice evening!

Really good restaurant! We enjoyed our dinner. The atmosphere is great, it smells like freshly baked sourdough when you walk in, and the bread is extremely fresh and delicious. The appetizers (€20) and main dishes (€35) were also very good, great flavors. Only thing that I can comment on is the price, it’s quite expensive. We paid €200 for two starters & three main dishes & 4 glasses of wine. We decided to eat a la carte, maybe it’s cheaper when you order 5/6 courses, but still we thought the price wasn’t very justified. And one specific other thing, I ordered the fish of the day, and I noticed that the skin on the fish was quite burnt (see pictures), still good though.

Nice selection of dishes that have been well thought out. The wine list is an absolute highlight. I would love to come back here, what craftsmanship!

Tendrás que reservar, ya que incluso un domingo por la noche en mayo este lugar estaba lleno! Servicio encantador, menú innovador, comida sabrosa, vino delicioso. Estábamos en la parte del sótano del restaurante y nos alegramos de ello ya que la sección superior parecía caliente y ruidoso. Sin duda un restaurante y menú inusual pero agradable y un punto de diferencia en una ciudad con miles de lugares para comer.

We had the 5 course menu. Won’t soon forget. Star of the show was the ribs of course, but the starters were 1000000% out of this world. Xavier gave us the best service. Can’t wait to come back again! Ps. Photos don’t do these wonderful dishes justice ;)

We did the 5 course tasting which was amazing. All the food was very fresh and unique. Service was amazing as well, the staff was very attentive. Great selection of wines, including some natural wines.

Small, very cozy restaurant with 20 seats.

Had a lovely time here with my partner. Ordered the seven course taster and was not disappointed at all. The sea bass and morels were the highlight, closely followed by the prime rib which only lost out due to a tougher chew on the exterior. The flavour and interior cuisson were on point though. First time I've had veal tongue, was good but calling for some acid or a pop of interest. Also, the downstairs window seats overlooking the water are great despite their quieter location.

My partner’s dad who recommended the place and we decided to celebrate our anniversary there. The food was very delicious, the best food I ate in Amsterdam for sure. The place is very cosy and romantic. The service also did not disappoint, the staff were very nice to us. Would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice restaurant if you sit upstairs. We sat downstairs in the basement, which looked more like an old storage room, which is not recommended. Food and service were good.

Found this place last minute and was amazed at the wonderful atmosphere, open kitchen, and amazing food! Service was top notch and I highly recommend if you find yourself in Amsterdam that you visit Brothers Hartering. They also have a sneaky little cat that will sneak their way in when you enter!

Sehr freundlicher Empfang. Ausgewogenes Menü mit super Prime rib als Hauptgang wie gewünscht gebraten. Der Fisch in der Vorspeise war sehr gut in Olivenöl eingelegt. Dessert hat noch Potenzial. Top Weinkarte mit guter Auswahl zu guten Preisen.

Diner downstairs with a group. Food was excellent. Server was great but as we sit in the basement there was sometimes a lot of disturbance from other quest going to the bathroom.

Fantastic professional team. Its great once in a while to find a team that is not tired and love what they do. Food and wine were special.

Visited Amsterdam from the US and did a lot of research on where to eat before landing on this restaurant. It beat every other place we went by a mile. We got the 5 course menu and it did not disappoint at all. The kohlrabi and miso to start off was very refreshing. The cod with artichoke was complex yet the flavors integrated so well. We loved the veal and mushroom toast also. We wanted to try both the chicken and prime rib so added on that to one. The chicken had all the flavors across the spectrum and it worked very well. The prime rib was expertly aged and the smells as they delivered it were exquisite. Lastly the dessert was fantastic and a great way to cap off our meal and trip. One of the chefs would deliver each course and explain what each dish was in a clear way and answered our questions too. I gave 4 stars for the atmosphere only because some of the tables are placed in odd spots. Our heads were up against the bar where the chefs cook, so a bit of an awkward place and height, but it didn’t impact our meal. I would highly recommend coming here and if I ever make it back, we will be eating again!

Beautiful classic place with a lot of soul and beautiful meals. Personally just a little too much meat, but very tasty.

Wonderful bistro not far from the heart of Amsterdam

We came to eat here after hearing so much about it. Upon entering, the atmosphere is pleasant, but very crowded. We were seated at a table under the kitchen counter, where it was not very comfortable, and which was clearly too small for dinner. We took the menu with three starters to share and one main. First they brought us a ceviche that was very good and balanced in taste, then a steak tartare that, although the ingredients were good, there was too much tabasco and the taste of the meat was masked, and finally a brioche toast with a cured egg with soy sauce and mushroom sauce and sour cream, the latter was also very successful. The second was porchetta with baked beans and cavolo nero sauce/purée. Here it failed miserably, the beans had too strong a taste and completely covered the cabbage (which with its herbaceous taste went very well with the porchetta), and the porchetta at the same time was not well cooked, it was soft and not at all crunchy. For dessert, they brought us a salted caramel ice cream that was also good, although a little salty, but with a very pleasant bitterness to clean the mouth. The wine was really good and right, they know what they are doing here and the service was nice and attentive. While overall it wasn't bad, I feel the value for money could be improved.

Our visit to Brothers Hartering was a fabulous experience, both for the palate and for the excellent service. The food was sublime; We opted for the 5-course proposal, which included three starters, a main course and a dessert. It was a mostly correct choice, although the last dish did not surprise us. The restaurant, although small, was filled with the magnificent smell of the kitchen, allowing us to appreciate all its splendor. The intimate atmosphere and enveloping aromas made this experience the best way to say goodbye to Amsterdam. Although the prices are high, the quality of the service and food makes it worth it.

Nice atmosphere, excellent service, nice extensive wine list and a surprising menu with beautiful ingredients. The langoustines make the perfect appetizer, and the small surcharge for the rib is absolutely worth it - 5 courses were more than enough for us, as the portions are extremely generous. Definitely recommended, this was not the first time we stayed at Gebr. Hartering and certainly not the last time!

One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in Amsterdam in years. Classic, cosy, attention to detail and customer orientated. So refreshing. The mushroom dish was perfect and the porchetta absolutely delicious. Thank you for a beautiful evening!

The restaurant is small and cosy in a quiet area of Amsterdam, staff are really friendly, and food was really tasty. My only complaint was that at least half of our prime rib was chewy fat with zero meat on it. We felt the price point was quite high considering this.

Lovely waitstaff and the food was amazing. Somewhat fusion ish with Japanese ingredients like shiso or miso.

Absolutely delicious, a nice array of skill, tradition and reinvention. Cozy space, water level (lower basement seating) was a nice array of like with a water view. The waitress was highly educated on both the food menu and wine menu making very good recommendations fitting the 5-course menu. The meal was filling and diverse. My guest did not consume fish or seafood as requested and the meal was well recommend by the Michelin guide. A lovely experience I wish I could share at home in Chicago

Et rigtig lækkert spisested med dejlig mad og en behagelig betjening. Retterne er meget små, så man bliver umiddelbart ikke helt mæt af kun en hovedret. Fik forret, hovedret samt dessert (ost), et glas vin samt en kop te. Alt i alt en super god oplevelse, lidt i den dyre ende men pengene værd.

Very nice atmosphere, professionals in the kitchen and in the service (especially the blonde lady!). The surprise menu contained refined and very tasty dishes. Highly recommended.

El menú es lo que cocina el chef esa noche. Siempre una selección de pescado, carne y costilla de primera, así como aperitivos y postre. Hay opciones a la carta o cena de 4 o 5 platos para compartir o no. Después de mucha confusión entendiendo las opciones para nosotros 4, la cena fue muy buena. No es el mejor lugar para comer exigente, pero bueno para los aventureros, sin estar demasiado loco. Todos disfrutamos de nuestras cenas.

This was a really really special meal. I don’t know if I would call it French. It’s just modern cuisine focused on fresh local ingredients. The sea bass tartare was my favorite dish. The grilled octopus on Romesco was also incredible. And we added a cheese course and had the best blue cheese I’ve ever eaten. But beyond the food, what made this dinner so special was the service. The entire waitstaff knows everyone in the restaurant, looks happy to be there, and speaks to you on a personal level that makes you feel like you’re the most important diner in the restaurant. Floris gave us incredible wine recommendations. Also, the space is very cozy. The tables are almost too close together but the intimacy adds to the vibe. It was not at all stuffy. Attire can be anything from casual to button down. There were people there in sweatshirts. Some sweaters. Lots of button downs. Nearly everyone was in sneakers including the waitstaff. They want you to feel comfortable. I loved everything about this experience.

Disappointed vs expectations. We had been looking forward to going after moving locally. Food was just okay - monkfish was the standout alongside the iberico jamon. Service was slow for us; our starters came out 15 mins apart and the team forgot about our desserts.

Really special experience in a heart of Amsterdam. I would call it a combination of French methods and Dutch soul. Very friendly and professional personal. Great starters (burrata with gazpacho; grilled cabbage; tourbot) and amazing main dish (pork belly). Would recommend to take 5 course menu as we got full after and couldn’t have managed 7 course menu probably. “Regular” wine by the glass is also nice choice for reasonable price.

The ambiance tried to be fine dining but missed the mark, ending up in an awkward limbo between formal and casual. The service and staff were just fine—attentive and polite, but nothing exceptional. The real disappointment, however, was the food. It failed to live up to the restaurant's inflated rating and exorbitant prices. Many dishes were bland and utterly lacking in flavor. Some items were boring, while others were downright awful. For what I paid, I expected an unforgettable meal, but what I got was a forgettable and tasteless experience. The high rating is a joke compared to the actual quality of the food, making it a complete rip-off. While the service was decent, the food—the main reason for dining out—was an absolute disaster.

Excellent all around. We were here for our anniversary and had the 5 course menu. The courses were all very tasty with some taste surprises. The wines were also very tasty and we always liked the recommendations. -We would definitely come back.

We had a very nice evening at Hartering. We had 5 course menu with wine pairing. All parts had good taste with fine ingridients and good wines which made the dinner even better. Concluding with good and strong coffee.

Excellent everything!! But be aware, the space inside lends itself to bad acoustics - we ended up shouting at each other all night to be heard. If you plan of visiting with soft-spoken friends, you will never hear them Everything else was unbelievably good. We got the alacart steak which was unbelievably good; cooked to perfection, very good flavor, and a decent serving size. The waitress we had was very pleasant, personable and attentive.

Fabulous meal at this cozy canal-side resto. While the multi-course offerings are a great value, our appetites weren’t that large so we went a la carte. Their house specialty is prime rib and it was beyond delicious. The meat of the day was lamb - also delicious. Oysters to start were extremely fresh and huge. Extensive wine list.

This charming restaurant is situated in a central area along a picturesque canal. Although their menu is concise, it is thoughtfully complemented by an extensive selection of wines. We opted for seabass as our appetizer and prime rib as the main course, both of which were flavorful but unfortunately quite tough to chew. Despite this, it was a pleasant experience to visit this establishment at least once.

Excellent quality meat, cooked expertly. The bread was unusually good and the cabbage was a delicious, creative dish. The oysters weren't that well shucked (they had a little grit and shell inside) and the beer was a little flat but they are the only negative points I can think of. The service was super slick and friendly and the experience as a whole was great. Note, the restaurant was still going strong at 11.30pm, so I suspect it's the kitchen that shuts at 10pm or soon thereafter, rather than the restaurant as a whole...

One of the best meals we’ve had since living in Amsterdam. A warm and inviting atmosphere, great service, and every single dish was memorable. We opted for the five course menu and substituted prime rib for one of our main courses. For the starters that evening, we had a ceviche with miso cream, grilled cabbage with almonds and soy butter, and veal tongue. Everything was delicious but the cabbage starter is one that I will continue to think about. They had a great wine selection and what made it the perfect experience was how friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating the staff was. I eat a low-carb diet and they were very quick to offer to substitute vegetables for any of the potato sides. Such a lovely meal - we will absolutely be back!

Super cozy restaurant in a unique location. There is a cozy atmosphere with the open kitchen. The portions are good and the food was great, good variation between meat/fish/vegetables (we had the 5 course menu). Plenty of choice for wine and also very tasty wines that are not too crazy priced. Nice and cooperative service, but we missed something more "personal". This was probably because they were busy. All in all we had a really nice evening and we would definitely recommend it to friends, thanks!

By far the best meal during our visit to Amsterdam! Service was excellent and unpretentious. We had the 5 course tasting menu and they were happy to adjust to personal preferences. One dish was better than the next. The venison was well prepared and delicious. All fish dishes were both esthetically appealing and delicious. Dessert was also a highlight… cake with caramel sauce! Great spot with a superb view. The wine expert was great - she was very knowledgeable and had the right approach between sharing her extensive knowledge and not lecturing. The male waiter with the beard was also a comic hero.

The options for the food are limited (which is a good thing) because all the ingredients were fresh and tasteful. In combination with the wine; there’s endless possibilities. The sommelier did an amazing job at picking wines. You can really trust him when it’s about the finishing touch of the dish. Good experience.

Food amazing, wine better!! I spent a dinner with my girlfriend here and was a great idea. The food was really good, we loved every dishes (expecially the octopus). The wine was even better, we had a champagne as aperitif and then during the meal a french rose was extremely good. The service was really nice with us (friendly and smily) also after my special request because was our anniversary, we really appreciate it. Maybe they don't have a intimate spot for couple because the restaurant is not big enough for have one. In any case we loved our privacy. We will come back for sure!!!!!

Enjoyed the evening in early July. In a fantastic location and the menu was inventive and the ingredients were of exceptional quality. Would highly recommend. Wine service was a bit off, the wines perhaps are stored too hot and have some bottle damage.
