Had my stomach upset for 7 days after dining here.

Food was fantastic, flavours are authentic, portions were huge. Would definitely recommend it if you are visiting Den Haag.

Leuke sfeer. Gezellig. Heerlijke soep gegeten en kleine thee besteld. 2x de kleine pot thee besteld en bij afrekenen wordt er 2x de grote pot thee in rekening gebracht. Wanneer ik meld dat we 2x de kleine thee hebben besteld wordt door 2 dames gelogen dat we grote thee hebben besteld omdat volgens hun de grote pot op onze tafel staat. Als hun een vergissing maken in potten is het niet de schuld van de klant. Wij hadden duidelijk de kleine pot besteld. Om voor een paar euro's je klanten af te troggelen ..erg teleurstellend. En ook niet eens evt tegemoet komen, maar met 2 man je lopen beliegen. Hadden ze dit niet gedaan dan had ik nog fooi willen geven.. Maar niet op deze manier.. Ik heb er vaker gegeten en dit maak ik nu voor het eerst mee.

Had a nice meal in a small but nice restaurant. Service is good, plenty of choice on the menu with the exception of drinks. That is limited.

What a wonderfully atmospheric Javanese restaurant. The food tastes as we know it on Java, really delicious. This is a place where the food tastes like in Indonesia. If you are homesick or longing for some tasty Indonesian food this is the place to go! Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice, so sit back and enjoy!

Went in for a cup of coffee, but immediately regretted it. Dirty cappuccino, sickly milk, terrible service and way overpriced. Not recommended.

Helaas is het veel duurder geworden, soto ayam zonder rijst hoe dan? Met rijst €2,50 extra. Het personeel heeft geen kennis van de gerechten op het menu en ruim een uur gewacht op ons eten. 2 jaar geleden waren ze top, maar nu erg teleurstellend. Totaal geen Indonesische sfeer meer:(

The name itself was interesting to make us try the restaurant & we were not disappointed at all. A very good Indonesian restaurant to be tried in Hague. The staff were courteous and helpful as the menu was in Dutch. Food was amazingly delicious and portions were sufficiently enough for us. A must try if you want to try Indonesian cuisine.

This restaurant changes owners every few years. Last time we ate here it was still Chinese restaurant Sing Kee, but now it is an Indonesian eatery with the name 'Bumbu Jawa' which means something like 'Javanese spice'. On this winter day it was 6° outside, but inside it is nice and warm with the heating on its highest setting. The furnishings look old and worn. The waiter is polite but silent. I ordered the Bumbu Java dish, apparently the specialty. For a small additional charge, it is served with goat satay instead of chicken satay, and it was very tender. The plate was colorfully decorated with rice in the middle surrounded by rendang (sweet beef), spiced green beans, sweet chicken, sayur lodeh (carrot, cabbage and green beans again, but now in coconut milk), half an egg with sambal (red sauce) and prawn crackers. (shrimp chips). On the menu there was one pepper behind the name of the dish, indicating that it would be somewhat spicy. But that was a false alarm. Only the green beans were a bit spicy. The rest was mainly very sweet, just like the drink. The restaurant could therefore have been better called 'Gula Jawa'. The drink 'Teh botol' (tea in a bottle) was a letdown as it was served without a bottle in a glass with ice cubes and tasted like it was made from syrup. I would have preferred a beer, but they don't serve that here.

We discovered this restaurant by chance and spontaneously went there. The restaurant is located in or near China Town in The Hague. Often restaurants in tourist areas are a bit disappointing but not this restaurant. We ate the 30 and 31 and shared everything. These are great plates with many dishes represented. An eggplant with hot sauce was really great but very spicy. Very very tasty, good portion size and reasonable prices. What I don't like is the size of the soft drinks. A 0.2 liter Cola is sold here. That's too small for me. The service was good but just too fast. So it wasn't very comfortable. Because it was cleared away immediately, no sooner had we finished drinking or eating and the bill arrived very quickly. I would like more relaxed service here. All in all, a restaurant that you should definitely plan when visiting The Hague. We will definitely eat there again.

Loved the food, it was really great and nicely served. Only thing is that they have a long staircase to go to the restaurant, but if you can survive that then this is the thai food place for you!

En nuestra visita a La Haya, estábamos buscando un restaurante para la cena y el nombre Bumbu Jawa sonaba único. La señora fue lo suficientemente cortés como para explicarlo ya que el menú estaba en holandés. Tuvimos unos cuantos entrantes que básicamente era dimsum y rollo de primavera. Los principales fueron sopa de pollo con arroz, carne de res con base de coco (no me di cuenta de que será tan sabroso) , un plato de gambas y otro fideos a base de comida marina (los nombres holandeses eran más interesantes que mi descripción, sin embargo 😁). Las porciones de comida y el sabor era simplemente increíble. Por último, tomamos una bebida a base de coco. Esta fue nuestra primera cocina indonesia y definitivamente el restaurante no decepcionó en absoluto 😊

Leuk restaurant gezellig klein en knus goeie vibe,we hebben er heel lekker gegeten.Vooraf loempia en pangsit, Daarna het hoofdmenu nasitupeng en extra portie sate erbij het eten smaakte erg lekker en niet te pedis👍😋 De bediening was ook erg vriendelijk en snel o.ja de niet vergeten Cendol was ook Goed van smaak Alles bij elkaar top👍

Fantastic place - friendly staff, good food, decent prices given the location. I really like that their window extends across the street corner so you can really watch the myriad passersby, which makes for some entertainment with your food! I can recommend going around 1600-1900, when the lunch crowd has cleared out and the dinner crowd isn't there yet - it makes for quick service and a relaxed atmosphere. I think I ought to go for Indonesian more often!

Bumbu Jawa is a fantastic spot for authentic Indonesian cuisine! I ordered the Rijsttafel, which was a generous portion perfect for two people. This traditional Indonesian delicacy was a delightful experience. But the highlight for me was their Rendang - it's simply the best! The seasoning and spices were spot on, perfectly catering to my Sumateran taste. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a true taste of Indonesia.

If you are hungary do not come to this resturant. Very small portion in plate. The food is good.

The food was very good, but 9,95euros for alarge bottle of water, under the excuse that the price is not listed is abusive.

Bottle of water is 9€ but the menu says 3,50€.

My husband and I were excited to try the Ayam Penyet, especially since it’s run by Indonesian owners. While the portion was generous and the chicken leg was fried perfectly, we found the sambal (cabai) a bit mild and unusual with the chunks of tomatoes. The avocado juice was fresh, though it tasted like the fruit wasn’t quite ripe yet. Overall, it was a decent meal, but we had hoped for a more authentic flavor experience.

I ordered the Ayam Penyet and it has the right level of spiciness (as it should be). Cendol also taste the same with any local version back in my home. All the food seems to have an upgraded presentation. Nice environment with Indonesian music played in the background.

Wij wilden naar een ander restaurant, dat zat vol en besloten hier binnen te gaan. Wat een geluk dat het zo liep! Wij hadden het laatste tafeltje. Een uitgebreide kaart, de gerechten op de borden om ons heen zagen er stuk voor stuk lekker uit. Omdat ik niet kon kiezen nam ik de Bumbu Djawa schotel, soort nasi rames. Twee keer groente/twee keer vlees, half eitje en twee stokjes saté met witte rijst, kroepoek. Absoluut lekker, authentiek pittig, de smaak zoals je bij de betere toko's in Den Haag soms tegenkomt. Geen alcohol, hetgeen hierbij juist lekker zou zijn. Een ontzettend vriendelijk meisje in de bediening. Betaalbaar, goede verhouding prijs/kwaliteit! Het zit in de Wagenstraat, op de hoek met de Bkorf. Wij komen zeker eens terug (met kinderen en partner) om andere dingen uit te proberen

Excellent choice of indonesian dishes with a slightly sweeter taste. Highlights are the one person varied dishes ( rames ) on photo 1, the goat satay ( kambing ) on photo 3 and the fried omelette tofu ( tahu telor )

We ordered Nasi goreng kampung and Kopi tubruk manis. The Nasi goreng was spicy, but the egg and cabbage gave it a natural sweetness that kept me going. I finished my meal with some sweet coffee to soothe the bitter taste in my mouth. I would also like to try another menu.

We were there in the evening at 8:00 p.m. and many dishes were marked with a clock that you couldn't order in the evening. Apparently there is a good selection for lunch and the restaurant is not recommended for the evening. It seemed like the leftovers from lunch were on your plate, especially the meat portion and the pasta. Unfortunately I was very disappointed ☹️

Just a tip to the restaurant: make sure your satay ayam is cooked, please? We sent this back only to receive 2 skewers of raw chicken again. We had cut open the meat - also a tip to anyone who orders it - and showed it, but received the response 'the meat is well grilled!' Sorry, what??? We didn't feel taken seriously at all and apologies? They did not know that gesture nor that the cook himself came forward. Of course we didn't pay for it - we had to ask for it and were just stared at - and you understand that we left immediately, never again!

The food is good, the male staff working at the cash register is also very indifferent. His face never smiles. It leaves questions unanswered. The food is good, but there are deficiencies in the service. Hot sauce is not included if you don't want it. This can never happen in Indonesia. The drinks we bought cold were hot. We had to ask for glasses with ice. the atmosphere is great.

Pretty good Indonesian food, nice little restaurant. Just one thing I really don't like. Saying no when my 9 year old would like to have a glass of water. "You have to buy it, otherwise everybody here drinks water for free". What a load of rubbish that is. Anywhere in the world you'll get a can or glass of water with your food or coffee. For me it has nothing to do with money, unfortunately the owner thinks differently.

We were looking forward to an Indian drink, tjendol and es sjang hai, very tasty and filling. Returned the next day for another portion of es sjang hai for lunch, a fantastic meal. Big portions, good flavors! Good service, nice seating, plenty to see on the street too. Will definitely come back again! Still plenty to try out!

Spontaneously walked in to be surprised again at a restaurant unknown to us. This was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Upon arrival we were given a nice table by the window. The menu was quickly shown and we ordered the Tjendoll drink. This one was really delicious! A nice sweet taste with coconut and, if all goes well, brown sugar. We were also able to order our dish directly from the drink server. I had the Bumbu Java dish and my wife the Bumbu Java vegetarian. These were also delicious! What you pay for the dish and the quantity you get is really perfect. Meat was nicely seasoned with delicious marinade and sauces, the vegetables and rice were also nicely seasoned :) Long story short, I definitely recommend everyone to come here sometime and be surprised with this delicious food festival which you don't find much these days.

I went in because I was craving Indonesian food. I was thankful that they gave me coffee and ice separately so I could eat them :) However, I went because I wanted to eat nasi goreng and satay. Overall, the taste was okay! The satay comes with 3 different seasonings and 2 seasonings, a total of 6, and the seasonings are pretty good! However, Nasi Goreng is a bit spicy, so it would be okay for Koreans who like spicy food. Fried dumplings are crispy and go well with chili sauce It was okay because it cost 46 euros for 3 dishes and a coffee.

One of the ladies was super rude - she showed us to shut up when we asked for her attention, after waiting for 15 minutes for somebody to take our plates. When we came the second time, she wasn't there and the service was alright. The food is great though! Definitely recommend trying

Bumbu Jawa is located in the center of The Hague at a busy intersection. The restaurant is a bit on the small side and has a small terrace, but that also has its charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I had high expectations for this case, but unfortunately they were not met. The gule kambing was watery, bland and tasteless. The soda gambira was ok.

This is ENJOY, indeed with capital letters! Indonesia in The Hague. No Indo can compete with this. This food is so incredibly delicious, every bite is delicious!!!

We shared a dish composed of several good and original elements. Lots of tastes and new flavors. It’s still expensive for what it is (28 euros per person). Otherwise the decoration of the restaurant is beautiful, and the servers are very nice. A good address

Today, July 2, 2023, the three of us ate here. Super fast and delicious. The best restaurant in The Hague. And the ash tjampoer. Coconut drink with delicious Indonesian fruits. Ordered delicious pisang goreng. I will also order pangsit or pisang goreng more often. Yesterday, October 14, we ate here again with the four of us. Truly excellent. And the girl serving was very good at serving on her own in a full restaurant, my compliments to her. Looking forward to next time. Cozy and nice service. Had dinner here again with 2 friends on Friday after a day at Keukenhof. Lovely spot by the window and we were tired and recovered from the es champur and nasi kuning tumpeng rames. Ordered delicious pots of tea. The service was again great and fast, a really nice girl, nice chat with the customers, a great experience. Delicious as usual.

We had a Bumbu Jawa rice table for 2 with two drinks, just under €30 p.p. It was really great, plenty of food too! Quiet atmosphere.

I went here with some friends for my birthday dinner last month and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the waitstaff were very nice and friendly (helped explain some of the dishes to us), and the atmosphere was super chill. Strategic place and easy to find. The food is tasty. My favorite are Paru goreng, Ayam geprek, and rujak. Clearly, one of our favorites for Indonesian restaurant.

I had a bad experience at this restaurant. So, I asked a male waiter in Bahasa Indonesia about a few menu items as He also Indonesian, I inquired about the difference between two dishes I wasn't familiar with. The waiter explained that menu 1 was sweeter while menu 2 was spicy. I clearly chose the spicy option. However, shortly, a female server brought me menu 1 (the sweet one). I explained that I ordered the spicy dish (menu 2) not the menu 1, as I'm not a fan of sweet food. The server took the dish back to the kitchen, but when she returned with the correct order, she placed it on the table rudely, almost as if she was throwing the plate down on the table, there was no smile or any kind of greeting. I was shocked, the restaurant is not even crowded, whether she did it on purpose or not, but as someone who used to work in hospitality, I feel very disappointed.

Day in The Hague and then ended with delicious food at Bumbu Java. Friendly service and super tasty food: we will definitely come back.

Lekker eten en veel ook! Wij hadden de grote garnalen in pittige saus, sate met bami, een bord mix met gele rijst, groente en vlees en dan nog een groot bord nasi met vlees en garnalen. Het minst lekkere vond ik de bami. Zat geen vlees of groente oid. in. Alleen opgebakken met ketjap. Echt Javaans hoe mijn moeder het maakt. Pas op voor de hete rendang! ;)

Prima prijs kwaliteit verhouding. Indische rijsttafel voor twee personen. Saté was qua smaak perfect. Vleesgerecht was lekker spijt, niet te pittig. Bediening was vriendelijk en zeer punctueel.

Prima eten; iets wat aan de vettige kant, maar genoeg keuze opties Wel absurde prijs voor een vers gember theetje, met nauwelijks gember erin…

Het restaurant is ijskoud en de ajam bakar was droog. Helaas dat er geen warme sfeer voor de klanten wordt gecreëerd. Echt zonde!!

Samen met een vriendin bezocht ik Bumbu Jawa. Ik kende het zelf niet. Als drankje vertelde ze voor mij jus alpukat (anders had ik waarschijnlijk gewoon cola besteld). Wat is dat heerlijk! Toen ik een tweede drankje wilde bestellen was het uitverkocht!. Als eten nam ik de bumbu jawa schotel. Ook heerlijk. (Een soort nasi ramens). Ik zal hier vast vaker heen gaan.

Beter eerst reserveren als daar wil eten.

Lovely taste with a lot of different meals, like gadogado, blado, satay kambing and a lot of mixes. Pity they use chicken thighs for chicken satay, one of the most worst part for satay, but okay there many others who likes theme. Forget the service, they are from indonesia and dont know how it works overhere. So slow and slower, but they get the job done. But for the kitchen its the best to have real indonesian chefs inside.

Hoewel we niet hadden gereserveerd,hadden we het geluk dat er voor ons beiden nog plaats was. Er werd wel gelijk gezegd dat alles wat langer kon duren.Dit werd kenbaar gemaakt tijdens de bestelling. Om het lange wachten te verzachten bestelden we ook Soto Ajam.Dit was qua prijs/kwaliteit redelijk tot goed. De Bumbu Jawa schotel was het wachten waard. Prijs/kwaliteit was goed/ zeer goed De service is uitstekend Minpunt: Tussen 19 en 19.30 was de witte rijst niet meer voorradig . Pluspunt: Er word wel alles vers klaargemaakt De volgende keer als we weer in Den Haag zijn komen we beslist weer.

Eten was een beetje een tegenvaller. De service ronduit slecht. Alleen de tjendol was goed.

Klein zaakje, je zit dicht op elkaar maar eten is heerlijk in warme sfeer. De beste sate kambing die ik heb gegeten met de kecap saus die erbij hoort. Niet goedkoop overigens. Mahal zoals we zeggen. Hoofdgerecht de nasi kuning, goede hoeveelheid. Voor de toetjes had ik geen plek meer... de volgende keer dan maar

Das Essen, ich hatte eine Suppe, hat nach yum yum Suppe geschmeckt. Es gab neben den Nudeln nur ein paar Stängel Spinat und Fleisch mit Pilzen.. Die Aromen waren nicht stimmig beziehungsweise waren kaum welche vorhanden. Geschmacklich fade und ohne frische.

At first confusing should i choose this resto or other, but then i try this even very crowded cause the place is small. Buuutttt the food is really good! Really like warteg 🤣 , the price and portion is acceptable than other resto which pricey and taste not good. In here taste was great maybe only the rice not good and ayam goreng. I tried soto, rendang , ayam bakar was good. Es cendol not pure they made it so taste not that good but still oke. Thanks for made it!

Eten smaakt lekkerder dan het eruit ziet. Smaken zijn aangepast op publiek dat niet kruidig eet. Qua bediening, jongeman reageert niet, loopt met oogkleppen op.

Ik had een nasi goreng ayam besteld. Smaak voldoende, portiegrootte goed. Een redelijk pittige, huisgemaakte, lekkere sambal. Enig minpuntje: de nasi was wat "nat". (aan de vettige kant) Personeel was beleefd en attent. Ik zal zeker weer een keer langskomen voor een ander gerecht. Selamat makan.
