Café Anno 1890 in Buitenveldert-West

Unfortunately, the reservation didn't go through despite being made by phone. Luckily, the staff handled it well. I ordered the weekly special: Nasi with chicken satay. Unfortunately, there was a lot of nasi (to me, too much), a little chicken, an egg, and few vegetables. The chicken was tasty, though. I would have liked a few more vegetables for more balance.

Great restaurant where you can watch Ajax on a big screen. They offer well-known meat dishes and a weekly special. In my case, it was nasi goreng. It was very tasty, but the portion was too large for my liking. I would have preferred less rice and more vegetables.

The Schnitzel we ordered damn dry 😬! No sauce to go with and only little mayonnaise with the fries 🫣So basic also cannot cook properly 😂Very disappointed! 👎😡 Good that one wait tall and handsome he was nice we make a joke about the foods 😁

This time it was too busy, so we had to go to another place down the street. But that's what makes this place what it is: comfortably crowded. Service is always good and if you have the chance, do order something for dinner. If it's full, just order a beer and enjoy the atmosphere.

Haven't been there in 20 years. But nothing has changed, just a bit bigger. But the food remains excellent.

Such a beautiful and cozy bar in our new neighborhood! The interior design is amazing full of character, history, and nostalgic details. You can really feel that it’s an old bar with many memories kept alive through the decorations. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it’s definitely a great place to relax and enjoy a drink. Highly recommended!

We've eaten here often and given it 5 stars in the past. Tonight, Anno didn't live up to those stars. The service was slow and chaotic. Ordered dishes were served to the wrong tables, both ours and others'. A simple glass of rosé took forever to arrive, even with repeat orders. The fries with our main course were cold and tough. New fries arrived after we'd already finished ours. Other guests who complained were told by the staff that they couldn't do anything about it either. No apology, no gesture to make amends. The sole and spare ribs were good, though. Anno 1890, you were much better in the past. I hope you'll correct the mistakes because you have a pleasant location and good food.

5.50 for brand weizen a nice Dutch beer (0.3L) but how can a pint (0.5L) of the same beer be 11.75? I feel ripped off

We had a delicious lunch. The tuna salad is fantastic! And Cora's service is great.

There's not much to say about it. It's become more of a meeting place for old people these days.

Just cozy, tasty satay and spare ribs

After visiting the Amsterdamse Bos we went for lunch at Anno 1890. As we were with 3, we wanted to sit together at the side of the cafe. However it wasn't allowed because of safety reasons, so we went to the front, but wasn't appealing; we went inside. The younger waitress took our delivery, but the older one (lady owner?) which brought our drinks was very unfriendly. I guess we came in at the last moment for lunch. They took all the menus from the tables as we waited for our delivery. We ordered onion soup (€7.95), vegetarian croquettes with toast (€10.50) and a selection of dips with bread (€6.95). Tasted all good and price was accordingly. The cafe looks very authentic. You can't park here, however just in front is a busstop.

How wonderful to have a drink in Café 1890 again after a long time. Ellen is, as usual, the best hostess I know.

I want to talk about the service, but there was no service. The waiter was rude and angry. We asked for napkins two times, but they didn't bring it. They brought the cake (which was ordered next to a coffee) very late. They brought the wrong drink, but we accepted it because we knew if we asked to change it, it would take forever.

And a really old cozy restaurant where I had lunch. The bouncers are perfect, delicious coffee, beautiful onion signs in the building. Yes, go there, enjoy!

An old brown cafe that has been around for many, many years. You can get a great bite here for lunch or dinner (also a different daily menu every day). The prices are reasonable. Also a great opportunity to have a drink outside on the terrace or inside with a group. The service is polite and fits in with the cafe 'environment'. Parking is possible on the street or diagonally across the street at the church.

The food is very good and nothing to complain about. But the service is really terrible! The older ladies serving/behind the bar are also not friendly at all. It's a shame for a cafe that has good food that the service is so poor and the staff is not friendly.

Very fun place, atmosphere is great

This bar and food establishment was actually our bus stop to our hotel a block away so out of the seven nights we must have stopped in at least five! ;) Our first morning, we actually had breakfast here. Cora was our waitress. She was very friendly and told us she was going on her fortieth year working here! For dinners, we tried their cheese burger, steak tips, chicken tenders and onion soup. All were delicious. Their prices and portions are reasonable too. The place is large but very cozy and their play list is awesome. So many American hits tinkling from the ceiling speakers. I highly recommend Cafe Anno 1890.

A nice venue with ample history and local culture

Well, you order a burger (with fries) and it comes with two majonaise. If you tell them, please take back the two majos (cos I do not like majo) but give me one ketch-up for the fries, they charge you for the ketch-up additional 0,50 EUROs...that is cheap, guys! Stop that please!

The gentleman at the service today (12-1-2025) was/is not capable of taking or serving the ordered in a decent manner. Understaffing at its finest. The quality of the food also left much to be desired. Not what I'm used to from this chain where we as regular guests like to pop up for something to eat or drink.

What a nice tent. I was there for lunch which was very tasty. The staff is very nice and helpful. The coffee is good and there is a very good atmosphere.

Full of locals and very kind service! Steak was just okay, the taste you can imagine, but gambas salad is another level. Very recommended!

Very rude middle age waiter ( usually she works at the bar). The cafe was empty but she gave us a table close to the toilet. We asked her to change a table but she just walked away. It took us a while to get a menu card. The bar is nice but bad service ruined our evening.

Nice and historic, must see for a good beer, average restaurant food

1890 is a typical old-school eatery, in a positive sense that is. The so-called living room feeling. We had that again here when I celebrated my birthday with my children and partners. The service is friendly and fast. Starters and steak, tournedos, chicken liver and steak were fine. Just a bit strange that they only found out very late that an ordered schnitzel was sold out. After a few hours of pleasant dining, I happily settled. All in all, drinks, starters, main courses and coffee/tea are less than 60 euros per person. Excellent price/quality ratio.

I've been coming here for years and I enjoy it every time. From the nice atmosphere, the good service and the delicious food. Highly recommended for lovers of small happiness.

We had a party at the Bosbaan a little later that evening, but thank God we still found room here for a bite to eat. Nice casual pub atmosphere here and fast service. Price quality of the food was excellent and the meat was perfectly cooked.

The first time I had a great experience at Café Anno 1890, but the second time was very disappointing. Despite waiting outside for a long time, no one came to take my order. Inside I was ignored by the staff even after greeting. Unfortunately a disappointment - I won't be coming back here again.

This café is unique. One can readily notice that upon entering the facility (e.g. the tablecloths are made of fabric). Service is friendly, and the portions are generous. Recommended!

The lady behind the bar is rude and xenophobic she would not serve us in English so my friend switched to Dutch and she still ignored us. Extremely rude, very disappointing to receive such service

Understaffed, too few staff, sat for 1.10 with 1 beer, then finally ordered a drink and food, the veal liver was completely fried and it was clear that the cook does not know how to prepare it. Ladies of the service respect that you persevered, they were so busy due to understaffing.

You can eat surprisingly well at Café Anno 1890! The tournedos was really delicious. The Pattaya salad looked good and was also very tasty. The weather was good, so we ate outside.

Cozy cafe, where I like to come for lunch or dinner😋. Food is very tasty, the spareribs are highly recommended 😋 There is good parking on the street and there is a stop in front of the door, making this café very easily accessible 👌🏻

Worst service ever experienced. Booked a table in the main café which was not available. Staff was rude and when we tried to order desert they told us the kitchen was closed. Would have been nice if someone had notified us. Last time I visited this place 👎

After a long time back at Anno 1890 and, fortunately 🙏 we are not disappointed (sometimes memories color reality), on the contrary. Delicious mussels, tasty desserts, excellent service. We are happy to be back. Thanks for consolidating our memories and see you later.

I've been here 4 times in the past couple of months and I have mixed feelings. The food is tasty but once I found a plastic tag in my salad and the last time I made a reservation by phone and the lady was incredibly rude, she let me hanging after I switched to English and later she hung off the phone. I had to call twice to make a reservation. Later perhaps the same lady was at the bar and she was looking at my table and talking discreetly with her colleague. Perhaps gossiping? I was with a group of expats and I really wouldn't like to say this but most probably you have racist people within your staff.

No nonsense, nice drinks and food in an attractive cafe.

The blonde woman at the counter is very ill-tempered, the service is very slow and while I drink my beer at the counter, I notice that the lady rinses the dirty glasses with water and serves them with beer to new customers.

Truly a pub as a pub should be, for drinks and atmosphere.

The name and fame of this business suggests a lot, but the reality is different. The original old part is a run-down mess. The part in the back was clearly added later. The kitschy red mouthed piss boxes in the men's toilet fit in perfectly. A number of them in the city center of Amsterdam prove that old brown cafes can also be well cared for. Consider, for example, Papeneiland, Hegeraad, Pieper, Oosterling and Brandon. The snacks of 1890 are sad and laughable. Whoever came up with the composition of the luxury mix and mixed warm will also have come up with the price. I would be terribly ashamed of it.
