Café de Krater in Weesperbuurt/Plantage

I have been frequenting Irish pubs in Amsterdam, abroad, and even in Dublin for years, so I know what a good Guinness is supposed to taste like. Unfortunately, my experience at Café de Krater was truly disappointing. The Guinness served here was extremely weak and watery, like drinking water with a slight Guinness flavor. What makes it even more unfortunate is that this pub is located right next to the University of Amsterdam and likely serves many students who might not know what a real Guinness is supposed to taste like. For the price you pay, you expect at least a well-poured stout, but this was nothing like it. If you love a real Guinness, I would skip this place.

The food has no flavor (I had the Turkish eggs and another time a sandwich) and the service is soo slow :(

Amazing quesadillas for a great price

The quesadillas were great and also quite abundant, considering prices in Amsterdam. Very nice atmosphere, and they even have some board games (we played generala). The staff was also really friendly, in particular one of the girls with whom we spoke in Spanish.

My fav cafe. Laid back atmosphere, amazing coffee, fair price and polite baristas. Haven’t tried food but looked delicious! I would appreciate some gluten free options in the snacks/cakes

I really like the new look of the bar and the fact that they have a more wide and varied food menu. The prices are also very student friendly and the staff is always very friendly and welcoming!! My highlights are the Guinness and the Quesadillas

Atmosphere is lovely. They do not have wine glasses, so we were served wine in (what I assume are) water glasses, but no big deal.

Great staff! The bartender Lucy is amazing!!! The hot chocolate makes my mouth water, best ones in the block. I really liked the place and will definitely be back

Fantastic relaxed atmosphere. Coffee is probably de best in the area and the service is great.

Milk Hot Chocolate is absolutely bussin. Creamy, sweet to the right point, light, aesthetically pleasing, sizable, and smooth. 4 euros well spent. Reminds you of the gift of taste and teaches you to appreciate the cold weather. Poem worthy and will be mentioned in my headstone.

My go to spot to grab a beer after class at a good price. Student friendly with nice service, and a fun place to wind down with friends.

Horrible. Ordered a toastie which was supposed to be ready in 15 mins. Reminded them twice and waited for 45 mins and still didn't get it

For a place called Café you should check what Coffee really is. Salty, overroasted and with a bittery taste like rotten oranges. Brioche meh (defrost) I paid more because i only had 5 bucks. For the two things, a bit overpriced. Not too gentle the bartenders. Nice atmosphere, great vibes and location.

Waitress (who was there alone) took a break today. Only tell them this after you have been waiting at the bar for 10 minutes. Furthermore, a very nice tent and she was very nice herself! But since she didn't say when her break would be over, I decided to sit somewhere else.

Love the place, love the people, I keep on coming back here

Nice coffee and nice atmosphere. They just don't have many of the things you ask for on the menu and they have run out.

Great student cafe next to the university, reasonable prices for food and beer and a tree shaded terrace outside.
