I attended a farewell gathering for a colleague at this café yesterday, and it was an excellent experience. They have two rooms available, and we were seated in the upstairs space. The room was beautifully decorated, with charming details that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everything was perfectly arranged, thanks to the friendly bartender who frequently came by with delicious snacks and drinks of our choice. A great bonus was the beer tap upstairs, which allowed us to pour our own beer without having to place new orders each time. After the event, we even stayed downstairs for a while and watched the Champions League with the bartender, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend this place. I’m already planning to host my own event here when I have something to celebrate!

Tables dirty, they don't clean up after people leave, so all tables were dirty until a new person comes in.

During a fun day out in Amsterdam, we happened to walk past VanLeeuwen and spontaneously decided to pop in. What a pleasant surprise! We were warmly greeted by a friendly, blonde bartender who enthusiastically and knowledgeably explained the extensive beer and wine selection. We didn't eat anything ourselves, but the dishes we saw passing by looked exceptionally delicious – definitely worth coming back for. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, a nice place to relax. All in all, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good drink in a pleasant setting. I'll definitely be back!

There seems to be two restaurants. One for special occasions and one for very little of anything. We attended the latter. I ordered a hamburger. It was raw inside. I guess I should have complained, but you would think they would know better than to serve it to a customer Raw. The French fries were ok.

Today I participated in the Ratha Yatra procession in Amsterdam, a spiritual and peaceful procession from the temple in De Pijp to Dam Square. It was a beautiful, pleasant experience—until we passed Café Van Leeuwen. One of the staff members had just dropped a glass (beer or another drink) in front of the door. As far as I could see, no one from our procession was walking directly in front of their entrance, so it seems the glass simply fell out of inattention. What shocked me most was the staff member's reaction: he walked in angrily, making rude hand gestures towards our group, as if we should "get lost," and even stuck his fingers in his ears. That felt extremely disrespectful, especially since we weren't in anyone's way and were simply walking by peacefully. I understand that not everyone has to believe in what the Ratha Yatra stands for, but if you make a mistake yourself and then take your frustration out on a group of people who are doing nothing wrong—that's not only unprofessional, but also downright hurtful. Perhaps it's a good idea to convey this to the staff: regardless of religion or culture, respect for others should be self-evident.

Back at my favorite kafé in Amsterdam, Van Leeuwen. They don’t just have the best coffee and food but also the friendliest personnel. Do I need to mention that they also play all kinds of jazz 🧡 I’ll be going there every morning when I’m in this city

During my trip, I stopped for brunch at this cafe. The server was very kind, helpful, and responsive. There's not much of a wait, and the food is really good! I had parmesan cheese, poached eggs, and avocado. Yum, a real treat!!! Go there with your eyes closed!

Meh, stopped here for a cup of coffee. The servers intentionally ignored me and I almost felt like they weren’t happy to serve a brown non-local person. Clarification, wasn't there to 'to-go' coffee. Also, this isn’t about your values — it’s about how I was treated, and the experience didn’t sit right. Responding with annoyance instead of engaging with what I said is dismissive and tone deaf.

Don't go to this cafe. The location is nice, though. Our Egg Benedict was poorly presented with a sour hollandaise sauce. It was practically inedible. The service wasn't very friendly. A large piece of glass in our smoothie was an absolute no-go. That's absolutely unacceptable!

They completely ignored us! Didn’t bring the menu and they didn’t take our order. I asked ‘do you still have this soup’ and she said someone will come to you, yet no one came. Also one of the customers outside asked for umbrella and they said no. If you’re not going to use the umbrella under the sun, what’s the point? I couldn’t eat here since they didn’t take my orders, but service is awful…

Tasty latte and friendly service!

We were asked to sit but we had a question about taking out coffee. The person treated us soo rude, asking us to sit down because he is busy and didn’t let me Talk. When I asked if you have take out he said he doesn’t have time for take out and bye. I was so shocked that I didn’t say anything!

Avoid this place at all costs. Once I was sitting there, ordered a tea and I got basically dirty water full of leaves that were passing through the filters. Tea was impossible to drink so I asked the waiter (it was her first day) if it was possible to change it for a classic tea bag. They didn’t have any so the owner of the place came outside, put his hand on the table defiantly and from the top of his dickhead (I was sitting so he was looking at me from the top with both his hands on the table) he approached me so arrogant and I felt very intimidated. He asked me to leave because if I wouldn’t have drunk the tea they I had to leave because you can sit only if you drink something. He basically kicked me out of the place with so rude manner.

Was looking for a place for a simple relaxed, quiet coffee and a light brunch while I planned the day. This place was cozy and had some nice inside and outside seating. Had some eggs and some lattes and spent an hour there. The staff were very friendly and I didn't feel rushed at all. It will definitely be a place of note if I'm ever back in the area.

Overpriced for average and small portions: EUR 14,50 for scrambled eggs on bread with a bit of salmon and a few slices of a small avocado and EUR 3,50 for 20cl cola. The waiter was not reflecting energy and motivation.

We had a very good breakfast here. The food was really delicious. We once had the Greek yogurt and scrambled eggs with salmon. Both very tasty. There was also an oat milk alternative for the coffee. Top!

Nice corner bar with a great view over the utrechtsestraat. Service is friendly and the menu has a variety of choices. We had soup which was amazing and I also like that their sandwiches are made with sourdough. The stairs are quite steep so not really an option for people that are not that good on their feet.

I'm excited. I went here for breakfast and on entering I knew it was going to be great. the innkeeper speaks with his guest and you get immediately a homiesh feeling like you are visiting your favorite uncle for breakfast. The coffee and the breakfast were great and surprisingly cheaper as your run of the mill coffees here. Will definitely come again next time I am in Amsterdam

Nous nous sommes juste arrêtés dans ce café en bord de canal pour boire un verre de vin. Nous n'avons pas été déçus, tant par l'amabilité de la serveuse que par la qualité du vin. L'endroit se prête vraiment à la détente, tant cette partie du quartier est calme et pittoresque.

Prima plek om even een verfrissing te gebruiken en op een bankje buiten te kijken naar alles zoals dat langs komt. Lekkere muziek. Goede sfeer.
