Nice shop in the middle of Wageningen

We ate there today with friends, but we'll never go back. One person in our group ordered two appetizers but wanted them to be served along with the other as a main course. The appetizers arrived promptly, but the other dishes didn't arrive. We waited a total of 1.5 hours for this. We repeatedly asked the staff where our food was. They were supposed to ask in the kitchen for us, but they never returned. Just as we were about to put on our coats and eat somewhere else, they brought our food. I could barely manage an apology, but we'd been hearing it all evening. The atmosphere was ruined for the rest of the evening. And when we paid, they didn't offer anything for the inconvenience. Truly awful. They won't be seeing us again.

€4 for a cup of tea? No problem, but why not make it a celebration? What a sad situation. A cheap tea bag next to a (half-empty) cup of water and honey from a plastic squeeze bottle?? What a missed opportunity.

A dinner for seven people. There was some confusion about the burgers that had been ordered and were then served cold. It was resolved, but as a result, one person received their food later than the rest. I also think the quality has deteriorated significantly. A real shame. I don't think I'll be dining at the hangover again.

It used to be a great place, but now you pay €12 for two hot chocolates with a dollop of whipped cream, or €9 for nine mini bitterballen... Ridiculous prices for a small town like Wageningen. Too bad, we used to go there occasionally.

Today I had a cup of coffee on the patio, where the outdoor heater turned out to be broken: 4 euros per cup. I've never paid so much for coffee before. The coffee is nothing special. The cup has very little capacity, and the whipped cream is from a regular can. Apparently, the renovation costs of Café de Tijd for the expansion of Café de Kater should be passed on to the customer.

Delicious food, friendly staff, and a very cozy atmosphere. We thought the portions were quite large, especially for what you sometimes get in the Netherlands, so it was really great! I would definitely recommend the salad with crispy chicken 😋

I didn't think the food had improved. Lack of love and attention to the food.

We had lunch here. Service was good and quick, drinks were fine as well. My partner had a sandwich with goat's cheese which also tasted okay. I ordered the sandwich with salmon and guacamole, and was quite disappointed that the guacamole was not freshly made but was a chemical green sauce that tasted nothing like avocado and probably came out of a jar. Not sure if this is standard, or if they had run out of acocado's that day, but when I pay €15 for a sandwich I expect fresh guacamole. The bread was also kind of stale. Would come back for a drink and a snack, but I'm not sure about lunch/dinner.

Cozy place for a drink in the city center

The food is typical Dutch. Highlights are local branded beer and that you can order via qr code without waiting for the waiter.

Mediocre food for a less moderate price

Two sparkling water bottles: €8, please. Ordering via QR code, payment had to be made within... well... that's pointless, isn't it? Paying more is fine, but make sure you provide good service.

You order everything using a QR code on the table. Your order arrives within a few minutes. There's no waiter present. A bit odd, but fine.

Relatively fast service. Clean, beautiful and quiet environment. Clean toilets. Inside the church square.

A lovely place for an evening drink. They also serve good food. The staff is friendly, and the blankets on the terrace really complete the experience. My only downside is that you're often surrounded by smoke from people lighting up, but other than that, the hangover is definitely our go-to for an evening drink.

Incredibly rude and unhelpful personel. I ordered online, paid and they just claim they didn't receive my order and are not willing to help. Despite me sharing the order number and making clear that I have paid they still refused to double check and chose to instead take my money and not make my food

Glas bier niet vol, wijn matige kwaliteit, sangria waterig en voor 50% ijsklonten. 1 van de 4 van ons gezelschap moest een kwartier langer wachten tot drankje kwam. Bitterballen de meest eenvoudige die we ooit hebben gegeten.

Great place, man. Everything looks good, nice young staff. That's not what I'm talking about. I ordered a coffee verkeerd for 4€. And what did I get for that. We asked the staff, is this right, never seen so little before. 1 sip and it was gone. A coke also 4€. We're really not whining. They'll say personnel costs, purchase prices blah blah. But let's be honest, these prices nowadays are completely out of order.

Not recommended for lunch; impersonal service - ordering via QR code and food was of low quality.

Sat here for an hour and after 5 minutes we ordered food which we were happy with but from that moment on it went downhill unfortunately glass was broken, no cutlery and no offer of a new drink when ours had been empty for about 10 minutes unfortunately! After about half an hour of eating we had to ask for the bill ourselves because we had not been helped yet. We will definitely not be coming back here!

Dame met rood haar zeer onvriendelijk. Ik zat al lang binnen, werd mij terwijl zij mijn cappuccino bracht dat binnen gesloten is. Dit is niet de eerste keer haar onvriendelijkheid. Ook naar mensen met vreemd gedrag, wanneer ze weg zijn kei hard uitlachen en hard over praten. Dan kan ze wel praten en lachen. Misselijk makend. Doe er wat aan aanfluiting voor de zaak.

Never had to wait so long for 2 cappuccinos, apple pie and a toasted sandwich... too bad because it doesn't do the atmosphere any good. Many people were annoyed by the long waiting times. Staff too. Orders that don't arrive at the same time as your table companions... so one already has their drink and the others have to wait a very long time...? If you can't get that much staff then why fill everything up. They always get the full load? Or just say right away that the waiting times for food are long... I won't come back here anymore.

Really terrible. Ordered via qr code. Half an hour later still no coffee received. When asked got a huge rude mouth. Money back and left never to return. Terrible a disgrace for the catering industry

Pleasant place to eat and drink

Veel regen deze pinkster zaterdag. Op de markt zit deze eetgelegenheid. Gapende ober, maar ach dat kan gebeuren. Omelet als lunch was oké, de kroketten ook, maar het wit brood oud, zelfs de korst. Alles gesmaakt werd gevraagd, terwijl op het bord 90% van het brood nog lag. Op mijn opmerking dat het oud brood leek zou dit nagevraagd worden. Niets meer gehoord.

Coffee was good, toilet new and very clean but strong chlorine smell. Please do not use chlorine, it is very bad for the environment!

Brilliant staff if I say so myself, should really get paid more for this good service👌🏻

Wat een slechte zaak, bediening is ongeïnteresseerd, biefstuk met gebakken champignons is niet mogelijk, deze worden alleen gebakken bij een snitsel. Met 5 personen 2 kleine bakjes friet en twee nog kleinere bakjes mayonaise. Niemand die even vroeg of het smaakte en of alles naar wens was. Bij alle vijf de personen waren de glazen leeg, maar niemand kwam kijken of we nog iets te drinken wilde hebben. We zijn opgestapt en een klein stukje verderop zijn we heel gezellig een ijscoupe gaan eten. Hier hadden ze wel vriendelijk personeel.

What a bad business, service is uninterested, steak with fried mushrooms is not possible, these are only fried with a cutlet. With 5 people 2 small containers of fries and two even smaller containers of mayonnaise. Nobody asked if it tasted good and if everything was to your liking. All five people's glasses were empty, but nobody came to see if we wanted something to drink. We got up and a little further on we had a very nice ice cream sundae. They did have friendly staff here.

If you come with a group of 20 people after a cremation to be together for a while, you are told that we either have to sit separately or that we have to go somewhere else. Putting tables together is not allowed. So here you can only eat with 4 people. They do not know friendliness here.

We went in a large group and pushed the tables together to be able to sit together. They were not open that we pushed the tables together and were also very unfriendly about this. Too bad. VERY too bad.

Pricey and took a long time for order to arrive, and nachos never arrived after 45 minutes. We couldn't handle the crowds with the double terrace, and there was practically no one available inside. Too bad this is colonizing the market.

Too bad the food was quite disappointing, the steak is a bit on the pricey side for a cafe, but if they don't cook it properly and even the 2nd time is not much better, that's okay for me, I won't eat there again anytime soon, it took a very long time to arrive and the steak was tough and tasteless. The 2nd was not much better, but after an hour and a half of waiting I was just hungry.

Cheese cake was scandalously small and for €4.50

If you order via QR, it may take a long time for your order to be delivered. They forgot the nachos, which were certainly a disappointment. Dipping 6 whole ones and the rest crumbs is a bit difficult.

The location is great, and the service usually is too. (There was now a very friendly boy, but also a young lady who threw our cutlery (in a tin) on the table. I thought the goat's cheese salad was very plain and not really tasty. It's a pity that the goat's cheese couldn't be grilled for a while, and I don't really like raw pine nuts either. I've had better food here!

Polite people, smiling, fast service, just i'm not generally haven't gotten used to some of flavors here yet. Otherwise it's a nice place in the centre of the square which, especially now that the weather is starting to get more warm, will be nice for an evening meal or a drink outside.

We were completely invisible to the staff, very bad. Orders did not always arrive either, simply forgotten. Sandwiches tasted fine.

Avoid this place. We went for a drink, and everything went wrong. The confusion started with the waitresses, who only entered half of our order instead of the full table’s. I personally had to ask for my beer three times, and to top it off, they spilled a beer on my friend. Mistakes happen, but this was a complete disaster. Before we left, they insisted we had to pay for extra beers, probably due to a mix-up because we had originally used the app to book but then ordered directly from the waitress. In the end, they forced us to pay, even though the mistake was clearly theirs. We knew exactly how many beers we had paid and drank, but they wouldn’t listen.

De sfeer is nog altijd meer dan goed alleen mijn bokbiertje was lauw en de nacho’s was beneden alle peil. De kaas zat alleen op 2 nacho’s en er stonden 3 bakjes naast met saus. En dat kost dan 8 euro.

Met de Zonnebloem duofiets voor mensen met een lichamelijke beperking was het een heerlijke dag. Tegen de middag dan maar een lekker kopje koffie met gebak bij de Kater. Nadat ik mijn passagier, een dame op leeftijd die niet of nauwelijks kan lopen, op het terras had afgezet nog even de fiets parkeren. Tussen de verschillende horeca gelegenheden is daar plek zat voor naast de aanwezige bloembakken. Je wil die fiets van ruim €10.000 toch wel in het zicht houden. Maar nee. De bediening van de Kater sommeerde mij de fiets verderop te parkeren omdat vlak bij het terras parkeren zgn van haar baas niet mocht. Sorry maar met een beetje inlevings vermogen snap je toch ook wel dat het niet handig is als je met een gehandicapte persoon die niet kan lopen, je vervoermiddel ver weg moet parkeren. Dit nog even los van het diefstal risico en het prijskaartje van zo'n speciaal aangepaste fiets.

One of the rare places where you feel cozy. The service was great and the food was fabulous. Burgers but good ones. Price reasonable. Would suggest it .

Unfriendly staff, asking id while I'm 33🤬😡

I was nursing a hangover last Thursday evening and ordered an espresso martini. I've drunk that before, but this was definitely not good. I sent it back and the waitress said, would you like something else? Well, I sent the drink back and ordered something else. Then at checkout I still had to pay for it, because it was made “properly”, but I never saw the drink I paid for again. Very strange story, that's not how you treat your guests.

We sat on the terrace and had a delicious meal in the evening.

How quickly this terrace has deteriorated. A glass of ice tea filled to the top with ice and hardly any drink. An apple pie that was so small as half of normal. In short, poor price quality here

Unfortunately, the carpaccio sandwich could not be chewed away and the warm meat sandwich with mushrooms and onion was more like a mushroom sandwich with onion and a dollop of warm meat. Too bad it was much better before.

Mooie zomeravond, dus we dachten even een lekker hapje te eten! De tafel plakte en de stoelleuning ook, maar andere stoel gepakt en een Caesar salade en krokante kip salade besteld met een wit wijntje. Met dit warme weer verwacht je dan een lekker gekoeld wijntje, maar helaas lauw! De salades komen en zitten in een klein schaaltje. De gerookte kip blijkt een paar plakjes gesneden beleg te zijn. De spek zijn slordige grote stukken niet uitgebakken vleeswaar. De ansjovis zat er al helemaal niet in en de croutons waren de vulling van de salade! Veel te veel en niet lekker vers. Paar stukken ei en dat was het. De krokante kipsalade bleek sla met een in stukken gesneden krokante kipschnitzel van geperste kip en dat was het eigenlijk. Bediening was super snel met gerechten brengen, maar afrekenen duurde lang. Jammer! Met een beetje meer aandacht aan de presentatie en bereiding had het een stuk beter geweest. Hier gaan we niet meer naar toe!

Een kater bij de Kater. Jaren geleden was eetcafé restaurant de Kater een van onze favoriete restaurants maar sinds de eigenaar (en hond) met pensioen ging, ging het snel bergafwaarts met het beestje. Jaren geleden werd ons rauwe kip geserveerd onder het motto dat het zo hoorde en sindsdien zijn we er jaren niet geweest tot vandaag. Veel andere restaurants waren dicht of vol dus wat kan er misgaan met een hamburger en een drankje. Hoewel we met zijn drieën waren kwam een drankje eerder dan de andere twee. En hoewel we gewend waren aan een flesje Lipton Ice was dit een glas met heel veel blokken ijs, een plak citroen én een plak sinaasappel en een klein beetje ijsthee zonder koolzuur. Zo haal je wel 10 consumpties uit één anderhalve literfles. Maar het kan nog slechter. Een ijskoffie werd geserveerd en was inderdaad precies wat de naam doet vermoeden. Heel veel grote blokken ijs waar de Titanic bij om zou zijn gevaren en een scheut oude vieze koffie. Niet te drinken, dus maar naar de bar met dit brouwsel. Het grietje achter de bar bevestigde dat haar collega had gezegd dat het geen vanille ijs met koffie was maar gewoon ijsblokken. Ze had niet gezegd dat het grote brokken ijs waren met zeer oude koffie. We mochten best iets anders maar omdat we het besteld hadden moesten we het wel afrekenen. Ze piepte dat ze nog nooit klachten had gehad over de ijskoffie en dat mensen van heinde en verre naar hun restaurant kwamen, speciaal voor de ijskoffie. Hoewel dit brouwsel een kostprijs had van een paar centen, ze moest en zou € 4 vangen voor dit ondrinkbare goedje. Was echt niet van plan me te laten oplichten en uiteindelijk greep een andere medewerker in en hoefden we alleen maar € 7,40 af te rekenen voor een waterige ijsthee en slap kopje koffie. Overbodige opmerking dat we dus echt NOOIT meer naar de Kater gaan en dat ook iedereen zullen afraden.

Had a nice poor dessert. I expected at least a little ice cream or whipped cream. Three stars because it is a nice place and the food is probably good when I look at the menu.

Excellent food and friendly service!

Nice place in town. Spacious terrace and quite popular. Service okay. What is really bad are the prices. These have increased enormously since the corona. Feels like an abuse of the impossible situation. Price increases can be seen by comparing the prices on the menu with the prices on the final bill. Menu: burger, drinks, dessert = 22 euros. But the five of us paid 36 euros per person.

Staff nice and quick, drinks and snacks on the table quickly. Just a pity that it is a non-smoking terrace. This ruined the atmosphere for us. We continued our search after the first drink....

We were told, with our mouths full, by the clerk that we were not allowed to put the bicycle in front of the terrace. I have a mobility scooter myself, so that is difficult. However, there were 3 more bicycles in front of the terrace. In short, we left and will certainly not return here.

Staff very poorly experienced. Didn't feel like doing anything for you at all. The menus were thrown on the table instead of indicated. No order was taken, we had to call the staff ourselves. Food was not placed in front of you, but somewhere on the table. And we were not asked once if we wanted to have something to drink or order dessert. Three of the staff were standing behind the bar on their phones and chatting with each other. The food was fine for a cafe, but not great.

Easy ordering and payment via a QR code. Food came quickly. Portion sizes could be slightly larger. 1 bowl of fries for 2 with a small bowl of mayonnaise is meager. Meat good and tender. We had chicken satay and schnitzel.

Friendly staff fast service, dinner was ok. Some salad or greens on the plate would make it some much better. We should have ordered a salad on the side to share.

We wanted to sit inside, but the tall gentleman at the bar was very rude because, in his words: "of course it was closed inside!!". Surprised by his unkind tone, we dropped off. Not the service we are used to from the hangover.

Delicious burgers. Unfortunately, I find the choice to serve the burgers in the wooden containers very inconvenient. But according to the staff it looks nice. Too bad that photos for social media are apparently more important than the actual dining experience. But the burgers were really tasty and the price-quality ratio is also right.
