Delicious French cuisine and a cozy interior. The staff is young and sometimes inexperienced.

We enjoyed a delightful dinner with exceptional food and friendly service. The fresh oysters, flavorful mains, and indulgent desserts were beautifully presented and delicious. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the evening. The combination of great flavors and outstanding service made for a memorable dining experience.

Usually, we really enjoy dining here. Unfortunately, last night's experience left us feeling deeply disappointed. Firstly, we were served a lukewarm lobster bisque as a starter, but no bread. When we asked about the bread, we were told it is only served when asked for. However, we have been many times before, are always served bread and also, every other table was served bread unprompted. Mistakes happen, there is no need to lie to customers. But the biggest disappointment was the main course, an Asian inspired chicken breast, because the preparation was very poor. I am not a fan of poached chicken to begin with, but at least in Asian cuisine, chicken is tender and flavourful. The chicken we were served was hard and it was covered in a generic, thick, brown sauce. It was served alongside a vegetarian spring roll. Not what you would expect at a French bistro. I am sure things will improve with the next change of the menu, but yesterday's meal has left us reluctant to come back again anytime soon.

Fantastic food on Boxing Day, top service and beautiful wine

Charming restaurant, friendly staff, and delicious food. We enjoyed the multi-course dinner with delicious wines on Christmas Eve. Afterward, we had a drink at Petit Caron, which was also very pleasant!

Great spot with very good food and a solid wine selection. The service is very Dutch in the best way efficient, friendly, and relaxed. That said, the dishes aren’t always fully explained, which might matter if you like more detail. The ambiance and atmosphere are warm and inviting, making it a lovely place to spend the evening. Would definitely come back.

A wonderful evening! The service provided by Ties was exceptional and greatly contributed to our enjoyment. While the Cod and Duck were delicious, the Tartare was the standout highlight of the meal.

A charming restaurant with truly attentive staff. The dishes were excellent, in a sophisticated and flavorful bistro style—a very pleasant surprise. The only slight drawback: we were charged for a bottle of water that we neither ordered nor drank. A shame about that detail, because everything else was impeccable.

Nice friendly atmosphere and the simplistic menu and ambitious plates looked very promising. But the food was a disappointment. Nice presentation, nice textures but zero taste. Absolutely zero 😳🤷🏼‍♂️

Loved this place. A friend booked a table for us on a Sunday evening. Prior to the invitation, never heard of the place and was unsure of what to expect.. Absolutely loved it! Adorable corner restaurant. Cozy decor, from lighting to place settings. Excellent service. All the staff were friendly and jovial. It really elevated the experience. Makes it more personal, more homey. Great wine menu, with a price point for every budget. And the dishes were outstanding in both preparation and presentation. Delicious. Particularly the signature poached egg app. Just lovely. You guys really nailed it. Highly recommend. Thanks for a fantastic dining experience.

My husband and I found Cafe Caron while walking the streets of Amsterdam on a recent holiday trip, and were fortunate enough to be seated at the bar without reservation on a day where they seemed to be otherwise fully booked. We had their three-course tasting menu, with wine pairings suggested by our bartender/server. I started with some beautiful French oysters accompanied by some champagne. I had the poached egg with the mushroom sauce as the appetizer, the pork starter, and the profiteroles for dessert. I could write a long, detailed review of the deliciousness of each dish and the wine pairings, but let me just get to the point: This is Michelin star quality food and wonderfully attentive service, all in a casual atmosphere tucked away in a residential neighborhood in Amsterdam. What most impressed? The fact that everyone in the kitchen, including the chef, was under 30. This team reflected a maturity and nuance to their food well beyond their years. This is a must-do dining experience.

This restaurant is located in a very lively, youthful neighborhood, which already gives it a great vibe. The interior is cozy, the atmosphere is warm, and the crowd is stylish and friendly. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. When it comes to the food, I personally lean more toward traditional cuisine, so this wasn’t exactly my usual style. The dishes here are more modern and experimental, with a creative twist — so if you’re expecting something classic like mashed potatoes & a steak or simple sides, this isn’t quite that kind of place. That said, the quality was very good, everything was tasty and well prepared, and if you enjoy creative cuisine, I think you’ll love it. Even for someone with more traditional taste like me, it was a pleasant and great evening overall.

Absolutely amazing dinner in Amsterdam. My wife has Celiac disease and all her food needs to be gluten free. We informed the restaurant ahead of time and they attended to every detail - information about gluten free options, a portion of gluten free bread, and all without having to remind them. Not to mention that the food was delicious, and the wait staff was fantastic. A must visit location for sure, and even moreso if you are gluten free. Be sure to reserve ahead of time!

The staff were very friendly and efficient. They all worked with finesses! I had ordered half dozen of oyster at first, it was so fresh and delicious and I couldn’t resist to order another half dozen. The main course Hamachi was very tasty. The Hake I ordered I could taste its freshness. I don’t eat fish skin normally but it’s very crispy so I wouldn’t mind eating it. I had no room for desert but I would love to try the other time. The wine I chose Bourgogne Viré-Clessé paired with the seafood dishes well! I’ll definitely come back.

It was wonderful again. On Sunday, the three of us had a delicious lunch and enjoyed a tasty three-course menu. All the dishes were very tasty, but the main courses were particularly delicious. We had two meat dishes, one Braambrugs Big, and one fish dish, Hake with peas and caponata. All this was accompanied by a lovely bottle of white wine (Limoux from 2020) and two separate glasses of red wine with the meat dish. To finish, we had one sweet and one cheese dish. We had a wonderful afternoon in a cozy restaurant, with plenty of light through the glass facade and a charming interior, and very pleasant service. Looking forward to our next visit.

Great French Cafe in a lovely neighbourhood of Amsterdam. Service was on point, fresh ingredients, meals were tasty. Beef tartare was not the traditional flavours you would expect in the French version, but truly succulent.

We had a nice meal at cafe Caron but I don’t know if it was worth the price. Quite small portion sizes, the boys in our group were quite hungry still afterwards. We did the set menu €57. We got the leek entree which was nice, fish for main and then the highlight was the choux for desert. Possibly one of the best desert Ive ever had. Would go back just for this. Hard to get into this restaurant have to book in advance and paid a €80 deposit which was taken off the bill

The food was excellent and the setting is lovely. Unfortunately the service was a bit of a let down. The waiter spilled red wine on our table and didn’t clean it up, the wrong mains were brought to our table, and they forgot to add something special to the dessert for my husband’s birthday like I had asked.

Unfortunately, my recent visit to Caron Café was underwhelming. The service felt inattentive – we had to wait quite a while every time we wanted to interact with the staff. When the waiter poured water and spilled some on the table, they didn’t bother to wipe it up. When asked for a wine recommendation to pair with the dishes, instead of suggesting wines that would complement the food, the waiter simply asked what I personally liked – which is not really helpful when choosing a pairing. As for the food, there were also some issues. The lamb was dry and lean, with very little sauce to make up for it. The rabbit felt slightly undercooked. Lastly, the dessert was puzzling: the tartlet came as just a half, as if a portion had been taken away before serving – not exactly what you expect from a restaurant of this level. That said, I know their menu changes periodically, and perhaps I just visited on an off day. I hope next time will be different.

The food was absolutely delicious. We went for the 3-course option, and since there were two of us, we got to try almost every dish on the menu. Among the starters, the poached egg had a beautiful presentation with crispy cavolo nero adding a nice visual touch. The leek was on another level – both in taste and creativity. For mains, we tried the hake and their special rabbit, and both were cooked perfectly. The only downside: despite being an upscale place, they charged €7 for tap water (€3.50 per person) because it was “filtered.” Which is a bit funny, considering Amsterdam tap water is already so clean and drinkable, it could probably win a taste competition:)

We had a delicious meal, surprising flavors, and it was a work of art to behold. The service was very friendly and welcoming. We went to Carré tonight and, thanks to the excellent service, really enjoyed our main course and dessert. They also have excellent non-alcoholic wine alternatives. We'd love to come back!

We've been coming regularly for five years. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Amsterdam. In fact, it's one of the best restaurants in the world. The menu is varied, changing roughly every three months. They focus on what they can cook well, not on cooking everything. You can follow these menus on their Instagram account. The clientele is delightful, the staff is very polite, the food is delicious, the wine list is extensive, and despite all this, the prices are very reasonable. Naturally, it's quite difficult to find a table. I recommend securing a reservation at least a few days in advance.

The menu is compact, likely reflecting seasonal changes, but every dish we tried was fresh and bursting with flavor. The oysters and their sourdough bread were particular highlights. Service was also warm and friendly.

Location is wonderful both inside and outside. However, the menu is too small only 4 options for both start and main. The food itself wasn’t that impressive. We had the leek and the mackerel for starters and the tomato and hake as main, both vegetarian option were not to our taste, the wines per glass were good though. Service ok: friendly and one lady new a lot about the wines. However, nobody really new what was ok for pregnant women, so it took a while before we heard and I went to pay at the bar in the end as we never really got served past our main.

This was the first recommendation of a local for where to go in Amsterdam, almost everyone seemed local... for such a tourist area, that speaks volumes. The food was at a magnificent standard. The mushrooms on the starter were the most tasty I've ever had. Yanik served us as he worked, was great to chat with an exceptionally talented young man. Thanks ☺️

For years, this establishment was a dependable fixture—reliably charming and well-run. Sadly, recent visits suggest a troubling decline. The seasoned, professional front-of-house staff has been replaced by a revolving door of inexperienced youths, whose lack of training is immediately evident. Expect to wait an uncomfortable 15 minutes outside—even with a reservation—without so much as an offer of water, let alone a welcome drink. Menus arrive only after repeated requests, bread is often forgotten entirely, and wine service borders on parody: cork fragments unceremoniously fished out with a ballpoint pen. A bottled water might be tossed onto your table post-meal, only to appear on the bill moments later. The kitchen, once a highlight, now suffers from wild inconsistency and a heavy hand with the salt. And while the coffee has always been regrettable, it now feels like a final insult rather than an oversight. One hopes this once-promising venue finds its footing again—but for now, its best days are clearly behind it.

I wish I could go back in time and eat this meal again. Incredible and reasonable pricing for such a beautiful restaurant. Great French dishes, the mushrooms on the egg dish were delightful, the rabbit- tender and tasty with a delightful sauce but the real stunner was the choux. The tang of the grapes made the rich ice cream with pistachios sing! Great service and wine selection. I love this place!

I sat on the bar started with ousters that were very fresh and good, than I had one of the best tartars I had in my life and all because the freshness of the meat and the thyme oil then went on with the rabit that was excellent, had great chateonauff de pape wine , one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam

Service was incredibly slow, it took forever to get anything. I waited 5 minutes just to be seated (I had a reservation). The place was full and only had 4 servers, who never seemed to be in a great hurry. The food was not bad, although almost always intensely salty and sour and never as good as to justify the wait.

Lucky enough to find a spot in the terrace, recommend reserving in advance especially on sunny days. A classic French bistro menu which is updated often. Not to mention an elaborate wine menu.

The food exceded my expectations as every course was delicious and full of flavor. The restaurant was quiant and lovely but I didn't get to experience much as could only get a seat at the bar when I booked. Only critique I have was the bartender wasn't very knowledgeable about wines as he was youthful and not very personable. I absolutely suggest going and getting a table to enjoy every inch of what this restaurant has to offer.

We made a reservation to dine here a few days in advance and could only get seats at the bar, which worked out great because we had a great view of the oysters being shucked all night long. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. Would return.

PERFECT! Everything. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Four of us enjoyed a wonderful meal that started with oysters and champagne. The restaurant is French all the way from the menu to the decor. It is on the pricey side but not crazy and definitely worth it. Unique dishes that change. You do need a reservation. Excellent spot to celebrate something special. Highly recommend.

Pregnant wife ordered the duif. Gave the waitress the information that the kitchen should address this.the meat of the duif came bloody rare. Also the dish consisted of two wings that were mainly bone and skin and a tiny piece of meat. For a dish of 33€, I expect more.

Amazing French restaurant in De Pijp! We went during the weekend and had the 2-course menu and everything was amazing! Service is great, the interior has a very nice rustic vibe with an open kitchen and of course the wine was very good! Definitely recommend Cafe Caron if you want to have a special weekend lunch!

I had the fish and it was disappointing. My dish was more grade than meat in addition the vegetables were cold. The dessert, pear tart, was very tasty. The dish with rabbit would have been a better choice, I understood from my table companions

Top food French style, great elaborations and combinations of flavors, even in the vegetarian dishes. Staff is nice, food came a bit slow but it’s ideal to enjoy a good atmosphere and chat with good wine. Can be a bit noisy inside.

Our server, Mary…was super friendly and gave great service and advice on what to order. Truly, the restaurant is so cozy and the food was wonderful. I learned what “soubise” was and have been making it for dinner parties!

Due to an error in the kitchen it took a very long time before the main course arrived, but the evening was a bit fun. There was no communication about that, we did get a coffee, but it didn't really feel good The food was tasty but very salty

I have been at Café Caron multiple times and it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. The menu is small, giving the kitchen room to prepare tasty courses for you. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy. PS 1: if you are alone, or if it is just the two of you, I can also recommend you a seat at the bar. PS 2: Book in advance, this is a popular place!

I found Cafe Caron on a list of restaurants a coworker sent me. Cafe Caron was listed as his favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. His recommendation didn't disappoint. My experience here was one of the top 5 meals I've ever had. The service was spectacular. The food was incredible. The wine selection amazing. I had oysters to start and chose the prix fixe menu, which included a first course of chard, second course of short rib, and selection of cheese for the third course. I recommend dining here when you can take your time eating the meal. Every course deserves to be eaten at a leisurely pace, enjoying every flavor.

The dishes were good, shame about the service, we waited 1 hour to have the first course and an endless wait to have the menu. The location is beautiful.

Not a good experience. So understaffed and bad service. Waited 30 min to get the menu and was fully ignored from the staff. Had to leave the restaurant in the end. Unbelievable after trying several times to reserve a table, which was basically impossible online or over phone, and had to show up in person to it and then end up with this service. Sorry, but this is not good enough!

Caron was good old-fashioned again. Very friendly welcome, which took a while, but the place was also packed. A short nod indicated that we had been seen, followed by (unjustified) apologies for the wait. The menu is relatively small but fortunately still has real French dishes. The wine list offers something for everyone and because of a driver we didn't need the notebook (is that still available?) We drank a very nice, well-priced Margaux on the recommendation of.... Thanks for a nice evening.

The food and wine selection were good, and the service was good as well. However, the place was so cold that we had to finish our bottle of wine just to warm up. Not sure why they did not warm the place enough…

Although the food was tasty, I found the service mediocre and the waiter did not respond well to my complaint about the cold main course. 3 red wine glasses at €12.50 were charged instead of 1 glass. It was that my friend checked the bill otherwise we would have paid €25 too much. We hope this wasn't express to compensate for the main course I sent back…

The food was incredible, taste very different to anything I’ve had before and an unexpected experience. However the food took SOOOOOOOOO long, we got there at 8:45, didn’t get a menu until 9:15, and our starter didn’t arrive till 10. Ended up finishing around 11.

Excellent meal and experience at Cafe Caron. We tried the three course meal and each was fantastic. Wine was great. Server was kind and excellent. It was also priced well. The restaurant was so cute! I’m so glad we chose Cafe Caron.
