Cafe De Regent van Amsterdam in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

This has become my place to visit every time in Amsterdam. Cozy, beautiful interior and good snack to add to a nice drink

We got the deluxe eggs and the creamy eggs with some coffee. The place is located in a good spot, right on the canal. The food was incredible, tasted like real food with nice ingredients. Service was amazing: polite and fast. The lady serving us spoke perfect English. The place felt very cozy inside. It was beautifully decorated and the music playing was very nice and not too loud, not too low. 5/5. I was afraid it would be a tourist trap but it felt anything but. Worth a visit!

Over an hour's wait for 5 omelets, a disaster both in the kitchen and with the service.

A small, atmospheric pub with a kitchen (it was open from 2 p.m., so I didn't eat anything, but I just wanted a beer anyway). Tables outside right by the canal, not much space inside.

De Regent is the best place in the heart of Amsterdam, a comfortable and enjoyable place to hang out with friends. The beer is top-notch. The bartender is friendly. The atmosphere will leave you indifferent.

I just ordered a beer and it was great! I loved the vibe of this place so much that I ended up coming back every day during my stay in Amsterdam.

Great views and the pancakes were quite tasty. However, the only downside was that it seems that the waitress serving us was not truthful and honest when charging the bill and future customers should check the receipt prior to paying. We (table of 5) overheard her charging the table of 2 behind us an extra €2 (accidental/ honest mistake perhaps). When it was our turn for the bill she had “accidentally” charged us an additional €10.50 for a drink we didn’t order. Luckily I checked and she said it was a mistake and will have it corrected. When she came back with the corrected receipt, she had charged us an additional item costing €3.50. When asked, she said it was the cost for hot water we had asked for at the start. A hot choc is about €3.80 from memory- when I asked her, she said hot water will be charged the same as the price of tea. I didn’t argue and paid for it anyways. But this seems all abit too strange so I don’t think we will be returning sadly. Would be good if they are honest and upfront about this.

We wanted to sit down and have a drink one last time before leaving Amsterdam. Around 22:30 they told us that the coffee machine and other hot drink options were off. We asked for the bill, but they said there was no option to pay separately outside. When we asked to pay inside, they said we had to take the receipt out. The waiter's defensive and rude attitude made it a very annoying experience. I do not recommend it.

For a beer or cocktail with a view of Little Venice and the canals.

Once again, a friendly request to all employees of De Regent: please do not immediately issue invoices after you have just received your order. We also have English staff working here at Cafe De Regent. Could the staff at Cafe De Regent please ensure that customers don't have to wait a long time for a staff member? So that they don't just say, "Let's go!" When I was here, I saw this twice at the same table: people were tired of sitting there any longer. Could the staff at Cafe De Regent please no longer issue the bill immediately after the order has been delivered? Thanks in advance. Nice place to stop by and have a drink, kitchen was closed when I was there (they close at 14:00) so I didn’t get to try the food

Unfortunately, the waiter was unfriendly. He laughed at my order for a non-alcoholic beer, and an older lady couldn't scan the QR code. We received nicer and more cordial service elsewhere.

Beer bar in the heart of Amsterdam's tourist area. Often crowded, but good atmosphere and the beer is cold!

Had a glass of Fuse tea. The table was dirty and sticky. Busy location with a beautiful view. No smoke-free patio.

Extremely rude. We wanted to have a drink here with a few friends but were chased away because there were eight of us and they deemed it "too crowded." Unheard of.

Terrible service. The owner is extremely arrogant and refuses to serve people. We where lucky enough to get a table but we will never come back again.

Recommended! ✨️ The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and we didn't lack anything. The pancakes were absolutely amazing! SO savoury and full of flavour. Big portions! We couldn't finish everything. The waiter asked us if we wanted to take the leftovers with us, but we had to decline because we had a full day planned with touristy stuff. Would otherwise definitely have taken the leftovers. 🤤🥞 We sat inside on the upper part near the stairs, and the atmosphere was very nice. Most people were sitting outside as it was a sunny day, so we had the interior mostly to ourselves. We loved the interior and all the old band/concert posters, many of which are our faves! Would have loved if that was the type of music playing, but we got some laughs getting nostalgic with classics from the late 90s and early 00s playing (with music videos on screens). 😅 We found only one drawback; the customer toilets. They could probably be checked/cleaned more often and some air freshener placed inside. It was pretty trafficy as it was tourist high season. We were there around noon on a weekday in late july. 🌞

It's a good place to drink a beer

The "Caprese" and "blueberry" pancakes were good, but the "pulled chicken and Gouda cheese" was a complete failure. A mountain of cheese on pancakes and a few pieces of dry, tasteless chicken. At least an "apology" from the waitress. That's probably all you can expect these days.

Sat here for a couple of hours, people watching and sampling the local beverages. The service was excellent.

The terrace is ideal for a drink (beer or soft drink, but not the horrible orange juice!) Avoid the restaurant: pancakes (very greasy for the savory ones and very heavy for the sweet ones) and very mediocre granola!

Nice ambience right on the water and a variety of beers on offer.

We had to move to the very lovely bar next to it as we sat for a very long time, no one acknowledged us. All the tables were served, drank more than half of their drinks and even paid :)

The coffee shop is excellent and has a great location overlooking the waterways. I've visited it more than once. The latte is delicious and the seating is even better. It deserves 5 stars.

Fui a este barcito con mi hermano a tomar una copa, se tarda un rato en conseguir lo que pedimos. En la segunda copa pedimos un Heineken y la única camarera que atendía a la gente de fuera nos dio la cerveza equivocada así que le dijimos que era la equivocada. Mientras ella está tratando de comprobar algo, ella derrama cada bebida sobre mí y simplemente dice lo siento como si fuera un pequeño error. El vidrio está en el piso y la gente lo está pisando y a nadie del personal le importa. Ella no me dio una sola toallita ni nada por esta “desgracia”. Es un lugar muy desorganizado y necesita cambios serios y una mejoría en cómo lidiar con situaciones como esta

Good place with good atmosphere to grab a drink

This was my very first coffee with tasty pancakes in Amsterdam. You can spend long time among the vibes of people, city, sun and good moods.

Very nice place. The view is wonderful. The taste of the coffee is extraordinarily good. Aperol spritz was nice too. Be sure to stop by here for a postcard photo.

Had my coffee there by the canal with the most amazing view, the staff is so nice and enjoyed the chill ambiance!

If you want to sit somewhere with a beautiful view by the canal, this street is very nice. I saw it when we came to another place for breakfast. I didn't drink coffee or anything, it was just opening. I wanted to share it because the environment is beautiful.

While this place is cosy inside, it is highly touristic regarding the prices and the way the staff treats you. We first asked for a menu and they said there wasn’t one so we then ordered gluhwein as we saw it on the sign outside. The lady asked if we wanted rum in it, we said yes, assuming just like any reasonable place that it would maybe be a few euros extra for each drink. We get the bill and find that they charged us €8,20 extra for a shot of Captain Morgan (which should never be that expensive for subpar liquor) ON TOP of each gluhwein which was already around €5,8…€14 euros for a gluhwein is absurd. We complained about there being zero transparency and felt taken advantage of, and mind you, we aren’t even tourists. We asked for some sort of compensation and was told there was nothing that could be done. It’s the type of place that thinks it can get away with terrible customer service just because it’s in the city centre. We learned our lesson and will definitely not be going back.

Bad service. We ordered mulled wine in the winter and were asked if we wanted extra rum. There is no menu showing prices. We were quite surprised by an extra tax of €8.70 for a shot of rum in a small glass of mulled wine. Staff was not emphatic about this and commented that it was “Amsterdam”. There is no 5* hotel that charges so much for Captain Morgan. Having a menu with prices available seems to me to be the basis.

I was served by Maria and she hit my chair couple of times on purpose. Such a disappointment. They were racists and very rude. She had an attitude, and also I believe under the influence of some kind of drug. It was almost scary to be served by such a person. I would never go back, I regret going to such a place. They should not be running a business at such beautiful locations. They should run a business at all maybe. I felt insulted with the way she spoke to me.

In winter weather the place is just right. Here you can warm up and drink excellent hot alcoholic drinks. A pleasant waiter will make you coffee with cognac and more

Nice place to drink a beer outside

We really liked the vibe of the place. It was quite nice to have breakfast in a pub which serves really nice Dutch pancakes. It also got quite busy very soon after we sat down so it was perfect timing. Really good.

A great place to eat outdoors with a really nice canal view! It's a place that sells pancakes, but I was actually trying to go to the restaurant next door and ended up sitting in the wrong place. But the view was so nice that I enjoyed my meal :) The server was also very friendly! Drinking beer with pancakes was a different experience haha.

Stayed here due to the situation. We were served shortly after we arrived, we didn't get a card, we had to order straight away. The waitresses were friendly but few polite formalities were exchanged. 12.20€ for a small cola (0.2) and a beer (0.5). Without asking if we wanted to order anything else, the bill was placed on the table and we were told to pay immediately. The invoice was partly incorrect (e.g. payment method). The store will be open for another 10 hours. Atmosphere nice, prices are so, service bad.

Keep in mind that if you are tipsy and don't keep track of your score, you may get scammed( Today the first beer cost me 5.60 euros, the second already 11.20 (same glass) After a short discussion, they told me “imsossori” and returned the difference in cash (I paid by card) As if we sorted it out, but the residue remained ((

I have been visiting this place for years. The service is good, the food is good but most of all I really love the spot.

Typical pub. Great music. Clean. The Italian boy who served us was especially kind. Excellent beer.

But as we asked for the bill an other waiter came and he said we couldn’t split the bill… so one girl has to pay for all the table (poor girl she’s broke now) just because the bill couldn’t be split ? Lovely spot by the canal to get your plate of dutch pancakes with your choice of toppings. The cream cheese felt a bit too rich and too sour, left half of the toppings in the end and just ate the pancake part. The apple flavour, on the other hand, is lovely. Really great backdrop, super nice for relaxation.

Little, tiny, and cozy.. pancakes? Not the usual ones. But tastes good enough to pair with a beer for brunch, or any time.

It's really nice in the morning for a morning coffee or a pancake. Don't expect super quality food, but enjoy being able to sit reasonably peacefully right on the edge of a canal, with sun in the morning.. and right in the center.

First time in Amsterdam, discovered the café and immediately sat down. We had coffee and pancakes. The service was friendly, the food and coffee were great but a bit expensive. Still worth an experience. We will be back!
