Great place to sit outside and also great music inside, great choice of beer

The atmosphere is absolutely great and the surrounding neighborhood is beautiful. Sitting by the edge of the canal, enjoying a beer, and watching the boats go by is a fantastic experience. The only downside is that the beer seemed very expensive. Overall, a great spot for the view, but be prepared for the prices.

Great location with lovely aspect over the water. A very friendly waitress named Ariana looked after us. Food was a good size and tasty. Prices are what your would expect for Amsterdam and the location. Update: August 2026 - Back again. Still great and one of the best locations for chilled drink.

The service was quite slow; our orders were only taken 15 minutes after we were seated. The view is beautiful, but the prices are slightly higher compared to other places.

It's a very nice place by the canal. However, getting a table can be difficult. We waited about 15 minutes before we found one. It's a pleasant place to enjoy Amsterdam.

I visited Amsterdam for a few days and found this place by chance!! It was the greatest fid of my trip, quite a highlight, there is something about this place that just filled me up with peace and joy, just sitting by the canals seeing the boats pass by and people walk by, was just so calming... The food was amazing and the service was always excellent, came back several times and must admitt that I didn't wanna go away!

We paid almost €30 for four coffees. After we paid by card, the waitress told us there was a problem with the payment terminal and asked us to pay again. What made the situation even more concerning was that she came back with a second printed receipt. We declined to pay a second time and later confirmed that the original payment had gone through successfully. The whole experience left us feeling very uncomfortable. I recommend checking your card transactions carefully if you pay by card.

The atmosphere and view are very good. The service is fast and the prices are reasonable. We had coffee and it was delicious.

It takes 30 min to order something? The table next to us gets drinks after 2 min while we were sitting here longer. I will not recommend this place BUT the view is 10/10

Thieves are trying to trick you into double payment by suggesting a problem with the terminal! Be careful and don't be fooled into thinking you'll receive an automatic refund. reply: it's a pity that when I tried to contact you by email to politely explain the matter, I was ignored… Where to show you double payment?

Honestly, that was the worst pancake I've ever had. The mozzarella had a weird sour taste, and there was something off about the pesto sauce too. The harmony of the sauces with the other flavors was just terrible. On top of that, our order took nearly 40 minutes to arrive! We had to remind them three times, so it seems like they might have been short-staffed in the kitchen. I really hope they sort out these issues because the atmosphere of the place is lovely, and there’s definitely a lack of good restaurants in this area.

Even though omlette was delicious waiting time is painful, they should hire more staff for these customers, I do not wanna spend my 40 minutes for just 2 mins omlette.

Lovely spot on the corner of 'Little Venice' to have a drink and a bite to eat. Staff were faradic, really friendly - happy to offer recommendations. I forgot her name but the girl with a medusa tattoo on the back of her leg was fantastic!

Great location right on the water; the only slight drawback is the passing delivery vans. Service was quick, and the food (omelette and scrambled eggs) was excellent. The accompanying sourdough bread and butter/cream cheese were also top-notch.

It's a nice place, quite popular, but it gets a bit busy at lunchtime, so you might have to wait in line for outside.

They don't have decaffeinated coffee there!! In Spain and Portugal, every cafe and restaurant, no matter how small, has decaffeinated coffee, but in the Netherlands, it is almost a rarity! I'm done with it 😠

We got the deluxe eggs and the creamy eggs with some coffee. The place is located in a good spot, right on the canal. The food was incredible, tasted like real food with nice ingredients. Service was amazing: polite and fast. The lady serving us spoke perfect English. The place felt very cozy inside. It was beautifully decorated and the music playing was very nice and not too loud, not too low. 5/5. I was afraid it would be a tourist trap but it felt anything but. Worth a visit!

De Regent is the best place in the heart of Amsterdam, a comfortable and enjoyable place to hang out with friends. The beer is top-notch. The bartender is friendly. The atmosphere will leave you indifferent.

Great views and the pancakes were quite tasty. However, the only downside was that it seems that the waitress serving us was not truthful and honest when charging the bill and future customers should check the receipt prior to paying. We (table of 5) overheard her charging the table of 2 behind us an extra €2 (accidental/ honest mistake perhaps). When it was our turn for the bill she had “accidentally” charged us an additional €10.50 for a drink we didn’t order. Luckily I checked and she said it was a mistake and will have it corrected. When she came back with the corrected receipt, she had charged us an additional item costing €3.50. When asked, she said it was the cost for hot water we had asked for at the start. A hot choc is about €3.80 from memory- when I asked her, she said hot water will be charged the same as the price of tea. I didn’t argue and paid for it anyways. But this seems all abit too strange so I don’t think we will be returning sadly. Would be good if they are honest and upfront about this.

We wanted to sit down and have a drink one last time before leaving Amsterdam. Around 22:30 they told us that the coffee machine and other hot drink options were off. We asked for the bill, but they said there was no option to pay separately outside. When we asked to pay inside, they said we had to take the receipt out. The waiter's defensive and rude attitude made it a very annoying experience. I do not recommend it.

We also have English staff working here at Cafe De Regent. Could the staff at Cafe De Regent please ensure that customers don't have to wait a long time for a staff member? Unfortunately, the waiter was unfriendly. He laughed at my order for a non-alcoholic beer, and an older lady couldn't scan the QR code. We received nicer and more cordial service elsewhere.

Recommended! ✨️ The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and we didn't lack anything. The pancakes were absolutely amazing! SO savoury and full of flavour. Big portions! We couldn't finish everything. The waiter asked us if we wanted to take the leftovers with us, but we had to decline because we had a full day planned with touristy stuff. Would otherwise definitely have taken the leftovers. 🤤🥞 We sat inside on the upper part near the stairs, and the atmosphere was very nice. Most people were sitting outside as it was a sunny day, so we had the interior mostly to ourselves. We loved the interior and all the old band/concert posters, many of which are our faves! Would have loved if that was the type of music playing, but we got some laughs getting nostalgic with classics from the late 90s and early 00s playing (with music videos on screens). 😅 We found only one drawback; the customer toilets. They could probably be checked/cleaned more often and some air freshener placed inside. It was pretty trafficy as it was tourist high season. We were there around noon on a weekday in late july. 🌞

The "Caprese" and "blueberry" pancakes were good, but the "pulled chicken and Gouda cheese" was a complete failure. A mountain of cheese on pancakes and a few pieces of dry, tasteless chicken. At least an "apology" from the waitress. That's probably all you can expect these days.

Sat here for a couple of hours, people watching and sampling the local beverages. The service was excellent.
