Really lovely cafe on the corner adjacent the canal. Quite quiet for how close it is to Dam Square. Delicious food (I had the pulled chicken sandwich), cold beer, and excellent service.

Avoid for people with food allergies. We informed our waitress of my son’s allergies, but the information was not checked or shared with the chef and food served to him contained sesame seeds, to which he is allergic. Only by checking again before his first bite did I manage to prevent a serious allergic reaction. We did receive an apology but no discount.

We ordered a flat white, cortado, iced latte, iced Americano, pancakes, and apple pie. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable. The outdoor seating was lovely; I'd definitely go back! ❤️

We had breakfast here scrambled eggs and toast were good… croissants were wonderful… curd and fruits could have been better… fresh juice was fine… if you want a hassle breakfast go for it… it is across canal so a nice view

The apple pie was really delicious. Unfortunately, the overall impression was marred by the service. The waiter seemed rather unenthusiastic, almost arrogant, and inattentive, which made our visit unpleasant. It's a shame, because the food was good. We quickly paid and moved on. Overall, it was okay, but in my opinion, the service needs improvement. Will we come back? Certainly not as long as we're treated like that.

This used to be a nice place along the canal to stop for a meal. Not anymore, apparently. No food photos because I never got the lunch and apple pie I came here for. In fact, it took almost 20 minutes to get a menu (!) and by the time more than 30 minutes had passed and I had still not been able to order, I gave up. I don't know what happened to this place over the last few years, but whatever it is, I shall definitely no longer recommend it to friends and followers.

Food was excellent and the beer was actually cold. Service was top notch. I highly recommend stopping here

avoid - i asked very very specifically for a burger with no mayonnaise. waited 30 minutes and it came with mayonnaise - server didn’t care so i cancelled and left - pathetic

The coffee tastes burnt due to improper use of the espresso machine, specifically not pressing the button after each use. Pressing the button to let water run through the group head helps clean out leftover coffee grounds and oils. If this step is skipped, burnt coffee residue stays inside the machine and affects the flavor of the next coffees, giving them a bitter or burnt taste. In addition, staff were handling ice and lemons with bare hands after cleaning tables, which is unhygienic.

The location is very central and right on the canal. They also have a really lovely terrace. It's definitely worth going there, especially on sunny days. The staff are very polite and attentive. I ordered a coffee; it was average, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. However, if you're drinking alcohol, this is a good place to go.

The staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious. A tip: The overall atmosphere of the café is inviting – the music, however, is not. It's simply far too loud and the bass is completely distorted. We would have stayed longer if we hadn't been blasted with music like in a souvenir shop… 🙈

Had a great experience at Cafe Het Paleis. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, the food and drinks were excellent, and the service was good and very friendly. The staff made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. Definitely a place worth visiting, highly recommended.

Stopped by for brunch and drinks. The place was alright, but the service was horribly slow. There was also one older woman on the staff who was just straight up rude and passive aggressive to us, really left a bad taste in our mouths. I definitely wouldn’t go here again and the whole experience put a bit of a damper on our afternoon.

The service was very slow; we never received our drinks despite asking twice. We ate, paid, and left. The sandwiches were quite good but expensive for the portion size.

Coffee was flat, 'poffertjes' were dry and there were a surprising amout of apple core bits in the apple pie. The vibe is alright and the place of well kept, though it seemed like they were very understaffed.

The food was very, very good, the service was excellent, I would recommend it to everyone.

Very new, designer-y restaurant on a corner overlooking a canal (hardly a suprise in Amsterdam, but still...). We stumbled across this joint and it was great - attentive and efficient service, good vibes, 80s power ballads - but special mention here to the burger. Handmade patty, great fresh garnish and PEFECTLY cooked. A real joy of an unexpected find. Recommended!

Update: 7 years later i get a response from the cafe! This is because AI is now being installed to automatically respond to reviewers. I've been receiving responses that are identical from various businesses. Please DO NOT do that.. It's better if businesses do not respond than to send an automatic, useless, AI message. Service was very good. The place is quite clean. There has been a mistake in my bill due to a misunderstanding in the order but it was somewhat rectified. The food was good and the menu big. It's also kid friendly with chocolate spreads for breakfast.

A true gem of a cafe! We discovered this place by accident one evening and returned twice on subsequent days for coffee. For our dinner had the cauliflower soup and the burger. Both were delicious. The atmosphere was cosy, the staff very friendly and accommodating, and the service excellent.

It's a place where you'll feel very welcome and which will warm you up in every way amidst the Amsterdam cold. It must be lovely to relax at the tables set along the canal during the summer months.

We had lunch here on Saturday. It's a very nice restaurant. Delicious food, homemade dishes with honest, fresh ingredients. We received excellent service from Oscar, who was very friendly and humorous.

Me and my boyfriend were trapped in sense of finding a place to eat, lots of highly sought cafes recommended by tourists online being full. Or unwilling to find us a table. This place was welcoming, a lovely menu too, very much appreciated. Not all meat! My sandwich was gorgeous and thought the quality of the bread was amazing. Well deserved for the price you pay :) thanks for making my holiday more joyful.

Great local coffeeshop with authentic vibes. The apple cake is amazing and the coffee is good. Stayed here to work for the morning and ended up getting their pea soup, which felt really home cooked. Good to escape the tourist crowds nearby.

The food isn't amazing (the soup arrived lukewarm) and the setting is unremarkable (the toilets are in poor condition, for example). The service has made up for it a bit, but it's not worthy of a guidebook.

The service is impolite, the coffee is disgusting, the mulled wine is the worst in my life, cold 100 ml of wine with a piece of orange. Waiting time for coffee is 400 minutes. I do not recommend and will never go again.

The food here is overpriced and falls short in quality. The waiter mentioned that the pasta would come with chorizo, but when it arrived, it was just pasta with a hint of chorizo oil, not even an actual sauce. Not worth the cost, unfortunately.

I love this place, good Belgian beer, nice snacks and food. But the girl from the bar, destroyed all our good mood. I hope next time we'll be served by someone else. Out of that, place is very nice with good location and small but tasty menu ☺️

We came across this cafe by chance. This is a great place where you can have not only breakfast but prosecco for breakfast. A great combination, especially if you're celebrating something first thing in the morning. Cheesecake was also tasted. I really liked it! They noticed that the locals were coming. The coffee in the institution is Italian. We recommend!

We went for some breakfast and sat inside as it was colder but I can see that this would be a great place to enjoy some beers. Nice staff and good value food although service did seem on the slower side, but this could just be down to how popular it seemed.

Today we spent a day in Amsterdam and had a drink here. Because the weather was warm and the dog had already walked far, we also asked for a bowl of water for the dog. Twice, but the lady didn't feel like bringing this. That's why we give 1 star to our dog.

nice to sit and enjoy a good beer

I went alone for a sightseeing break. The atmosphere makes it easy for even one person to enter. This time I only ordered coffee, but there was a variety of food available and it looked delicious. The store clerk was also kind.

I was disappointed with my experience at this spot. It seems the staff may need a refresher on basic classic cocktails as they are not very good. Service was rude and arrogant.. A quick check of the cocktail recipes might help ensure a better experience for future guests.

Great coffee and apple pie. They have tables either side of the road near the cafe or near the picturesque canal. Quiet a busy pedestrian intersection, so plenty of ‘people watching’!!!

Great spot to sit outside and soak in the sun when it’s peeking through the clouds. Sitting on the corner (big plus) at 213° on the compass. And, you did want to know that because you receive sun all afternoon, something Dutchies need. Back to the bar itself. I didn’t have any food but only a couple average IPAs. The beer selection looked a little weak but I will give it another try with some food. There’s plenty of seating outside, also across the street next to the canal as well as inside. I’m sure it’s full of tourist during the summer months. That’s all for now.

Horrible the drinks very bad capuchino and apero

Per l'ultimo pranzo della nostra vacanza ad Amsterdam abbiamo provato questo locale dato il bel tempo e la possibilità di sedersi e consumare in riva ad un canale. Mangiare nella media e tempi di attesa mediamente lunghi, senza infamia e senza lode.

Fantastic lunch spot, the sun was shining, the vibes were good, the cannel was busy, the drinks were nice and the food was great. Would definitely recommend. Service was friendly and efficient. One of the highlights of our day. Will be going back when I’m next in Amsterdam.

A lovely terrace view and a memorable service.

We were there on a Saturday evening for drinks and it was the most terrible service ever, although the place was not busy. We waited too long for the menu, for our drinks and the bill. So long that we ordered drinks inside and also paid the bill inside to avoid our server. The server was young and completely ignorant of the guests, he kept French kissing his girlfriend in front of us and it made us very uncomfortable. At one point he just sat down at his gf table to smoke and drink with her at that point we lost all hope. It wouldn’t have been as bad, if he would have actually been still able to serve us.

Nice cafe in the heart of Amsterdam. I’m the regular guest here. Terrace is very popular during summer. Staff very hospitable and friendly. Especially Oscar. Always with a smile and very caring of customers.

The waiters took 1 hour to serve us 3 sandwiches and a soup 😡. Plus the food wasn't that amazing... I really don't recommend.

We found this cute and friendly cafe when looking around Amsterdam yesterday. We had such a warm welcome from the friendly waiter. A varied sandwich, burger and pasta menu that is relatively small but covers many dietary requirements. Veggie sandwich for me, eggs, ham and cheese grilled on brioche for my husband and Dutch pancakes for my daughter. All delicious, prompt and served with great beer and a white hot chocolate!! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed late lunch sitting in the sunny window seat overlooking the canal and would recommend visiting this very reasonably priced cafe right in Amsterdam.
