Cafe Kadijk in Oostelijke Eilanden/Kadijken

First time eating here and I was pleasantly surprised. Very VERY flavourful flood, very friendly staff, and a nice cozy atmosphere. I will be visiting again. Btw, i recommend the Indonesianl Plate!

Fantastic food, as always. However, what an incredibly rude staff member works there. This guy couldn't even crack a smile... he wouldn't even look at you and was extremely curt. He clearly wasn't enjoying himself. We saw several guests exchange surprised glances. A real shame... because otherwise it's a nice place and, as mentioned, delicious food.

They do not reserve tables, which is very pity. The stuff is rude, so we couldn’t take a chance to try the food

Delicious food and wonderful service at this cozy neighborhood gem of a restaurant. One of our group is allergic to peanuts, and they made her a peanut-free version of the lamb. Highly recommend!

The Lamb Gulai was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Really warm, casual atmosphere and very nice staff who kept a table free for us in advance even though they don’t normally take reservations.

Food is great. Been here a couple of times and the food didn’t disappoint. But: the service leaves room for improvement. We ordered food and after 30min we asked how long till we get the food. The waitress said there is a problem in the kitchen and the food takes another HOUR. No apologies or anything. That was the second time this happened. Last time we waited 1.5 hour for our food. Was the last time we will visit.

The Indonesian mixed platter and the soy/tofu dish with peanut sauce were absolutely delicious! Highly recommended. Also very friendly service and a lovely heated outdoor terrace :)

I have eaten at this place before- and the food was great! They do not offer guests the option to make a reservation- so one goes there on the off chance of getting a table and the food is worth it! Tonight on a sunny August evening however, we waited first of all for a table- and got one outside after about 10 minutes- absolutely fine!! But after another 20 minutes of waiting we were finally told that the (very small!!) kitchen was too overwhelmed and thus had put a stop on orders for a while!! Fine…. But this literally took 45 minutes or more…. By the time we were finally told we could place an order we had not received any apology for the long wait- we had not been offered free nuts or anything like that (but we were told we could order some crisps and nuts which we did as we were starving…! ) so- by that point we were too upset and perhaps a bit ‘h-angry’ to order anything…! Perhaps this very good restaurant should consider offering less tables - as they obviously do not have the capacity to serve all those extra tables outside- and please do think about allowing people to make a reservation…..

Rare in Amsterdam to get decent food in a cosy bar. Very solid mixed platter, if not the biggest portion for the price. Perfect in warmer months to sit on the terrace in this idyllic little square.

I had a delicious, generous Rendang sandwich. My friend had a chicken sandwich, and we both shared it. It was delicious. Highly recommended! A lovely terrace in a great location.

One of Amsterdam’s hidden gems.

Did not have a good experience here- no one came up to us for 15 minutes, we were giving it 5 before getting our own menus. Then the server “taught us a lesson” and explained that since we didn’t ask for help now we’re going to have to wait 30 mins for food. It was at least 40, lots of the servers were socializing and sitting with friends and eating. We arrived around 8:30pm and the restaurant was full. When we got our food the waiter had an I told you so speech for us about the timing… we had to go find ppl to get the bill, no one checked on us. Also, a 30 minute wait seemed not that bad to us, seemed like he just wanted to take out a bad day on us. Also we were not the last people to leave by far so, not sure what that was about.

Nasi campur tasted just so so. The good one was the peanut sauce- the rest taste nothing special.

Great local bar / Indonesian restaurant, a combination that would only work in the Netherlands. Impressive food quality and friendly service. Clean bathrooms. Sun-faced terrace. Don't expect parking options in this part of town.

What a Hidden gem! Have cycled past this place so many times and didn’t realise it was an Indonesian restaurant. Went in tonight, food was stunning, service wonderful and priced reasonably. Try the makerel starter and the generous Indonesian plate. So delicious, will definitely be back.

Delicious Indonesian food. Share some dishes. You won't regret it

Google hours are wrong. I arrived yesterday at 23:50 and there was a sign on the door that said it was closed. Disappointing as I really wanted to try rijstaffel during my trip and this was one of the few places that was supposed to be open in the late evening.

Ended up here by chance, small restaurant with a few tables or a kind of loft. Indonesian dishes are served, which are absolutely fine. Just a nice, cozy cafe with friendly staff. Unfortunately I live too far away, otherwise I would definitely come by more often.

Probably my favorite spot in Amsterdam, very charming and great food every time we’ve been there. The staff are kind (including the cat). No reservations are accepted when I was there which I think is goed.

Conclusion: this tent is virtually anchored to the neighborhood. A classic. Main courses are quite simple by Indo standards and not very exciting, but tasty. Mackerel is my favorite. All you REALLY need to know: the eggs, the eggs, the eggs. Order the eggs. Known on the menu as the starter EGGS À LA ANT BEA. The rest doesn't really matter. You'll be grateful for this tip (and especially the eggs).

Rendang Padang ausgezeichnet, gleich wie auch das Amstel-Bier. Bedienung draussen nicht ganz optimal, bei Abendsonne aber nicht störend.

Too expensive for what you get. I eat indonesian food in other places for less and to be honest better and more orginal indonesian food. The food was okay, but it gave me a bit of a fusion feeling between western and Indonesian. I'd rather go to an original Indonesian restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended to us by We Bike Amsterdam after our tour with them. We would never have found this restaurant otherwise but are so glad we did! The food was delicious! It’s a tiny little restaurant a bit away from the main centre serving delicious Indonesian food - we both had the chicken satay. The portions were very generous and the staff were very friendly. The sharing platters looked amazing too!!

Got the lamb curry and the spicy beef here. Both were very good, tasty, and filling. Nice atmosphere and a cute cat.

My first try at Indonesian food. I had satay chicken thighs. It was amazing. My daughter had Lamb . We both had dessert. The champagne cheesecake was wonderful. The 2 kids running round doing a great job with the service in such a small place. Just a wee pub doing great food.

This little cafe is big on making subtle Indonesian food. Good beers complete the journey to the West.

There was only 1 waiter for about 9 tables, which means we had to wait an enormous amount of time before we got our food. It was 1 hour between us arriving and us getting our food. It is possible that our order had been forgotten, since people who had arrived at the same time as us, managed to get their food and completely finish their meal, before we even got ours. We only got our food after I went downstairs to complain that it was taking too long. Would definitely not recommend.

It is not a cafe, but it is a nice restaurant with Indonesian food in a nice location. Amsterdam prices are therefore quite high. The food was too spicy for me

First time eating here and I highly recommend it. Smooth operation and excellent price/quality ratio. It's funny what I read about whether or not there is real Indian food. The Indian cuisine does not exist, there is not one type that it must conform to. Every few kilometers in Indonesia it tastes different with local influences, ingredients and specialties. I have experienced this in my own family. It is also impossible with such a huge country. Plenty of vegetarian options. Tasty desserts (spekkoek with ice cream!). The team has to work in a café setting under not too easy circumstances, but they really do their best. We arrived early, that may have helped. I would love to come back here again, but only if I can get a seat right away. There are people who want to wait for a table, but I think it's too small for that. But a nice place and within walking distance of Central Station and Maritime Museum.

Wat een leuk tentje zeg! Leuk personeel, leuke bar, lekker eten…prima zeg! Hele fijne tussenstop in de Amsterdam light route - welke erg tegenvalt, maar dit restaurant maakte de avond weer goed😅

Very childish to quickly change the amount on the ATM for the tip and look at me as if I didn't notice anything. You can't look in my wallet to see why I can or can't tip at the moment. Furthermore: food was great! Very good!

I’m Indonesian who live in USA, came here for vacation. Every country I go I make sure I eat Indonesian food. This one is ok. Service is little slow. Quantity is good. It’s little pricy for just mediocre indonesian food. I kinda enjoy it tho for afternoon dinner and drink. Ask to sit outside if the weather is nice.

There are so many nagging reviews at the top that I thought I'd post a positive one: Top tent, top people, top food. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other dining options in the area. For the record, I am a customer, not a stakeholder.

A perfectly located Indonesian restaurant, busy, and you cannot reserve a table. The food is fine, although there are certainly better Indonesian places in town. The staff is friendly, but sloppy. We (and other people) were passed when tables were freed up, although we were promised to go first. Also they forgot the starters we ordered and directly served the main dishes. In exchange we did get a free round of drinks though.

Unable to enjoy. Was highly recommended as a great Indonesian menu, walked 25mins to get here—but they refused to accommodate our group of 7 (three of whom were kids), no waitlist, and when we said we’d wait, were brushed off rudely. I get that it’s not normal to host groups, and the kitchen made need some time. But surely. The small cafe nearby made it work.

Amazing place for Indonesian food. Also a good spot for beers and snacks. I recommend ijwit kroepoek with peanut sauce and their mackerel all day long…

Ik wilde afhalen maar werd zeer onvriendelijk behandeld door de kokkin ik had telefonisch moeten bestellen. Dat heb ik meerdere malen geprobeerd de dag ervoor maar er werd niet opgenomen. De telefoon was stuk hoorde ik. Ik kwam eten halen voor een zieke vriendin en we hadden ons ontzettend verheugd op het eten Saté tahoe tempeh gado gado en rijst 2 maaltijden voor 35 Euro. De saté tahoe smaakte vies en droog en er zat een theelepeltje saté saus bij. Jammer want de saté saus had het nog enigszins op kunnen krikken. In de kleine komkommersalade geen azijn of andere dressing gewoon droog in een bakje. De gado gado ging nét. Het was eigenlijk allemaal niet te eten dus in de vuilnisbak gemieterd en een boterham gegeten. Allebei de pest in en zo zonde van het geld. Ben hier eigenlijk erg boos over en naast het slechte eten ook nog onbeschoft behandeld te worden. Mij zien ze hier nooit meer terug.

I don't understand the high ratings. My husband and I know Indonesian food and this is not it. I'm not even sure what some of these recipes were supposed to be. The gado gado was completely missing bean sprouts which is the main key ingredient and instead had a few beans as if they misunderstood the recipe. It also included HOT iceberg lettuce (yuck!) Very strange. The meat in general was bland, missing all the great flavorful Indonesian sauces you'd expect. The beef radang was the best of the dishes and was okay. The place had a nice neighbourhood vibe and our service was also okay. The prices were high, especially for this level of food.
