Great food super friendly and a perfect spot for a meal in Amsterdam

Had dinner here on Sunday evening, the second Indonesian restaurant we tried in AMS. We had previously been to “Warna Baru”, the sister of this restaurant, which unfortunately we only realized when we noticed the identical menu. The experience was similar, nasi kuning too dry, nasi goreng okay but not special. Sayur lodeh good, but unfortunately way too spicy for my friend. And even though we had asked in advance whether it was REALLY not spicy... the paint is peeling off the chairs, which may sound whiny, but it still contributes to the overall experience. Attention and love for the details were missing for me. Shame!

The food was tasty, but not that hot. The restaurant looks cozy. I think the back of my chair was broken because it bent very far back. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. When we wanted to order, the staff was chatting in the kitchen. After dinner the empty plates sat on the table for a very long time, no one came to ask if we wanted anything else and I had to go to the staff twice. Shame. When the plates were finally collected, a glass fell over, the service did not return with extra paper or tea towels to wipe the wet table. Perhaps the staff was still quite new, so see this as constructive criticism.

Lovely Indonesian recommended by a friend who lives in Amsterdam when we were visiting from London. We would’ve like the food a bit more saucy. The Telur egg curry was very dry in comparison to the images we looked up. All tasted good though, nothing to overly rave about.

Delicious food, nice atmosphere, very friendly staff and large portions. Recommended! We will definitely come back.

Nice meal. Iga bakar, siomay, sate ayam were really tasty, delicious. Recommended! Corn cake was a bit disappointing (just too dark and too salty).

We visited this restaurant yesterday with high expectations based on the photos and reviews. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our standards in terms of taste or portion sizes. Having been to Indonesia, we were hoping for an authentic experience. However, the plates were small and the cost adds up if you want to be full. We ordered three meat dishes and requested nasi goreng, but it wasn't available as the kitchen was about to close. Instead, we got the noodles, which were disappointing—just dry, curly, packaged noodles with no sauce. The chili chicken, made from drummettes, was dry and lacked flavor. The beef stew was more of a dry mash. On the positive side, the crispy duck was good, and the staff were friendly. It was disappointing to leave somewhat unsatisfied, given the restaurant's potential. I do hope they up their game!

Murtabak sayur was amazing, rendang and jackfruit dishes too. Only downside was €4 for a 0,25l coke which is outrageous even for amsterdam. Was well priced! €55 total bill with two mains, shared starter and a drink each

This is my go to halal Indonesian restaurant. They serve delicious high quality Indonesian food and the staff is always nice. They took into account that we had to leave earlier and did their best to serve us as best and fast as possible. 🙏🏽

This used to be a great spot when they just first opened. But they changed the concept and make the menu more mainstream to the dutch and portion is way smaller. No more delicious soto betawi. Iga bakar also tasted different from the first time we tried. It is now another dutch indo restaurant that does rijstaffel concept. I hope Purnama can thrive again and serve delicious, iconic indonesian dishes that stay true to it's roots. The place was super cozy and service was great.

NOISE A bit of a contradictory review: almost everything is TOP! Beautiful authentic recipes and preparation, attentive and sweet staff and the tasteful design of the restaurant. Price-quality ratio really is Javastraat. But a huge negative: the acoustics. It is one large smooth reverberation tank, so that in the busy restaurant you are immersed in one loud box of noise. You can only have an intelligible conversation if you also start shouting. Which is annoying because the tables are quite close together. It would be nice if something were changed about this: structure on the ceiling? Want to change something about all those smooth surfaces? If necessary, ask Wilde Zwijnen, they had the same problem in their early days).

Went for dinner here last Friday with an Indonesian friend. Staff and service were great, but we found the food a bit underwhelming. Some dishes were served lukewarm and were not quite as tasty as I know the indo cuisine to be.

The food is so tasty! Especially the spareribs. An asset to the Javastraat. :)

One of the best Indonesian restaurants I’ve been to in Europe. We ordered siomay (fishcake with peanut sauce), fried duck, grilled ribs, and tempeh and beans stir fry. Everything was delicious and authentic. Fantastic service as well. Avoid other Indonesian restaurants/tourist traps (where the spices are often watered down) in the city center and head to Purnama instead.

Amazing tasty food. Simple flavors and great to share.

Indonesian 'rijsttafel' with lots of vegan and vegetarian options to share. Really liked the Tempe Mandoan starter with the nice chili sauce. Sate of tofu and tempeh is always a favorite. The Sayur Lodeh veggies in coconut sauce were great as well. Make sure to order your rice on the side. Good beer selection with some great non alcoholic beers that really match the dishes. And... there are more vegan plates that we didn't even get to try yet, so will be back another time. Sampai jumpa lagi!

Pretty authentic Indonesian food, nothing from rijsttafel, with fresh and aromatic flavors. We particularly liked the Batagor Bandung. And the staff very friendly and attentive. Too bad the smells of the kitchen are too much.

We shared this the next time the service came by, but unfortunately this was only when clearing the table. This was the most disappointing restaurant experience I have had worldwide. We had to ask four times for tap water with our wine. It took more than 25 minutes to get it. Don't order the Pinot Grigio they have. It will disappoint. We ordered some Pangsit Goreng, Ayam Asam Manis, Sate Ayam and Mie Goreng. It took over 50 minutes to get anything. Pangsit Goreng: The filling was so dry that it tasted like cardboard. As if it had been left in the fryer too long. Ayam Asam Manis: The chicken was really tough and was not tasty to eat. Sate Ayam: This dish was the only one worth paying for. The taste was good and the chicken thigh pieces were tender. Mie Goreng: Very dry and not pleasant to eat. We left almost everything after tasting it. The only thing we did eat was the satay. I felt really insulted that they made us wait so long and then served us this poor quality food. Not at all what you would expect. We had to go somewhere else to eat afterwards. They tried to compensate us for this experience by putting a discount on the bill. But honestly, it still feels wrong to have paid a little more than the sate ayam. Very nice Indonesian restaurant which is unfortunately very rare. Good service and good advice on which dishes were gluten-free. There was definitely a good selection of dishes. The portions are already small and we still had to order more. That's why it was a lot of fun, but delicious.

We had an amazing meal. The staff are friendly and the ambiance welcoming and visually appealing. The food was delicious! It was paced nicely and we probably tried 12 different dishes (there were four of us) which is also part of the enjoyment. Portions are enough to share but not too much so you can try many different things. A truly lovely meal. If you like spice try the chicken in green chili. It gives chili heads all the want and more.

I've been to Purnama several times and it was always good. Went again today and unfortunately my experience was completely different. The food was mediocre (the rendang seemed to have been in the microwave a little too long). The portions are extremely small. I'm not a big eater, but the small bowl of nasi really wasn't enough. The service indicated that two people could easily eat it. The atmosphere was also completely different than before. The tent was half empty, which is understandable given the far too high prices that people dare to ask for the mediocre quality. The concept has recently changed into a shared dining concept and since then the level has deteriorated. I hesitated between 1 and 2 stars. Ultimately gave 2 stars because the service did its best. Too bad, but no more Purnama for me. There are much better Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam.

Lovely restaurant with excellent food

Tasty Indonesian dishes where it is also a nice place to eat, the employees are nice and I would come here more often with my family or acquaintances.

Unfortunately this place doesn’t even deserve a 1 star. It was mine and my boyfriend’s worst ever dining experience… The food was cold, not even luke warm and had zero flavour. The menu says the beef rendang is spicy but there wasn’t even a hint of spice. I am Indonesian and there were no Indo flavours but worse than that, it simply just lacked salt. Now onto the service. We asked for a takeaway container and got it back after a bit of time but nothing to complain about, but the waiter didn’t offer us dessert or the bill. I had to call him over for the bill which took SO long to get. And when we finally got it, he didn’t bring a machine and he just left! He went to go clean a table and there were no guests to be seated so..? After another 10+ minutes of failing to call him over another waiter brought the machine. It took over 30 minutes to get the bill and finally pay it… Also the table beside us wasn’t able to get anything they initially ordered as they ran out of it. Terrible experience. Save your money and go get good take-out Indonesian.

We had dinner here for the first time with our team on Thursday evening, April 18, 2024. The food was of good quality, the vegetarian choices were very good. It was a good experience.

Really good and real Indonesian restaurant in the heart of Javastraat. Prices are higher than your average Indonesian places but taste and quality were good. We walked in on a week night and we were served promptly. Portions aren’t big so it’s best to get different dishes and share them. Everything was tasty, however Rendang beef dish was quite dry.

After eating at Purnama 3 times, it is no longer the same as we had eaten. The iga bakar was very little, we were shocked that it was so little than in early 2023, you had to order the rice separately, strange how can you eat Iga bakar without rice, bakso bami special large portion tastes like nothing, rendang the meat is soft, only tastes of coconut but not the pure lemon grass, coriander and all the herbs you can't taste with this rendang (often eat at Lapek Jo den haag and warung Anisah you can taste the real rendang there) and the nasi kuning is dry hard rice. The only thing that is good is the batagor and somay. Too bad we won't be coming back here again.

The best Indonesian food I have had. The rendang and the goreng was top quality. The restaurant had a lively and fun atmosphere. The service was fine but not particularly warm or attentive.

We ate here once last year and we really enjoyed it. But today was unfortunately a completely different story. The service is friendly and attentive. That wasn't the issue. The problem was that you were asked if you wanted rice with your rendang. What else do you eat it with? This is exactly the same when you order a kebab sandwich without a bun. Only to read on the menu that this charges €4 per bowl! The rendang was served and to our surprise there were no vegetables at all. This made it look sparse. And something was really missing. If we had not ordered rice we would literally have had a bowl of rendang...I have never experienced this before. Very unfortunate that you have taken this path.

Mediocre, tasteless and a bit boring food. I am surprised of the high rating. Maybe we were unlucky..

The food is very good, but the service is quite disappointing. The kitchen closed without prior notice which was upsetting. We wanted more food and drinks and the choice was limited to none after 10pm. There were mistakes in our order and when we told the waiters, they were surprised and not very willing to bring us what we initially ordered. It will probably be a more pleasant experience if you go early, like 7:30pm.

The food was really nice and authentic! A bit on the expensive side though, as typically you need to have ~2 main dishes + 1 side dish to get full, and it is better to share a few dishes with people. All in all we enjoyed our dinner a lot!

Nice Indonesian tent. A few weeks ago we had dinner at Purnama for the first time with a friend. Cozy atmosphere, a bit cold, but it is highly recommended to walk in spontaneously. Food was delicious, lots of vegetarian options. I will definitely come back soon.

Purnama Indonesian Kitchen | Javastraat Modernly decorated Indonesian restaurant🥰, lighting could be a little less bright, it was a bit cold in the back, atmosphere was good🙂 Friendly staff, the wait for drinks and food just took a little too long. Bakso special (soup) was very tasty and so was the homemade sambal👌 Sate kambing (goat) was tender, the meat could have been cut smaller and I would have liked less lime in the marinade. Atjar had a good taste, good balance between sweet and sour🙂 Sayur Lodeh (vegetables in coconut milk) was tasty, but I would have liked it served hot🙂 Nasi Goreng was disappointing. The rice was too wet and therefore not crispy as fried rice should be. It could also be seasoned more. Next time I will try other dishes😉 I can recommend this restaurant!

We wanted to try out this indonesian restaurant because it had good ratings and had its menu containing various interesting vegetarian options. While the service was good, we felt that the food was rather average in taste.

Just had a really great lunch here. Try out the spicy chicken with green peppers. The service was really friendly and so welcoming. You can tell it’s a great family business.

The Rendang was very good, but the other dishes we ordered were pretty average. The service was quite slow, despite the place not being busy. Most of the people working seemed to be hanging out at a table with some friends. It was ok, but not great.

Would definitely recommend if you like Indonesian food. Good selection of food and cozy atmosphere. The only thing we didn’t like was the bisang goreng but that might be because of a bad batch.

The food came within 5 minutes, very fast! Beef was good and tasty, but the chicken was pink and undercooked inside. Also the chicken was cold, like it was prepared in the microwave. The place looked beautiful!

The food was OK but we were one of 4 couples in the restaurant, which was otherwise empty, but the waiter insisted on sitting all of us next to each other on tables that were really close together (i.e. so close together you couldn’t get past the other table without knocking into it). No one wants to sit that close to other people, especially when the rest of the restaurant was empty. Really weird.

Super gezellige sfeer. We werden goed en bediend door aardige mensen, eten kwam precies goed op tijd (niet te vroeg niet te laat) en het smaakte heerlijk. Aanrader!

Indonesisch met moderne looks interior. Engels sprekende serveerster zou ook Nederlands of Indonesisch kunnen spreken, dan gaat de bestelling wat sneller. Serveer gelijk sambal en ketjap samen met de bakso, zo hoeven we er niet naar te vragen. Zonder die twee smaakt het flauw.

We came here on a Sunday night. It wasn't very busy (three other tables other than us) but there was only one waiter. It took a while for us to receive a menu and get our orders taken, but the drinks and food came very fast! Also very friendly and polite! We ordered: - Tempe Orek (€15.50): Flavorful and sweet. Pretty authentic. It contains tahu as much as the tempe so I think they should change the name to Tempe Tahu Orek :D - Ayam Cabe Ijo (€21.50): The chicken came in cut-up pieces (as opposed to a whole/half a chicken) which made it easier to eat. It's not as spicy as I expect cabe ijo sauce to be. The meat was very tender and juicy, I could just scoop it off of the bones with my spoon. Would definitely order again! - Es Campur (€9.50): Very generous with the toppings! The syrup was a bit much for me so I had to wait for some of the ice to melt to dilute the sweetness a bit but other than that very happy with the es campur. - Cendol (€7.50): Also a bit too sweet for me (too much palm sugar, I personally wouldn't mix it all together). It came with jackfruit as well which I was very happy about! It's mentioned on the menu that it came with crushed ice, but I'm personally not a fan as it made it difficult to drink. The food came with rice, which was very fluffy. The portions were big, which kind of justifies the price (although I still think it's quite pricey). I recommend coming with a group and share the dishes so you don't end up eating a big portion of one thing. The reason why I took one star off is because the floor was sticky when we walked on it and the price is just a little too expensive imho. Overall a very nice Indonesian restaurant and, as a born and raised Indonesian, pretty authentic!

the bakso was too salty and not really indonesian flavor. The service was very slow. my friend knew the waitress and when she asked to not put vegetables in the bakso, he yelled to tell it herself to the kitchen ( so silly ).

One of the best Indonesian restaurant in NL and the best in Amsterdam. We ordered many traditional snacks such as Batagor, Somay, Bakso Malang and empek-empek.. All delicious.. The services is great!!! The staff are friendly and the restaurant is cozy. It’s always full, thus make sure to reserve.

Enthousiast geraakt door de reviews en onze honger naar een heerlijke Indonesische maaltijd, is helaas teleurstellend verlopen. Ondanks dat de service tip top in orde was, was het eten helaas teleurstellend. Deze kwamen namelijk rechtstreeks uit de magnetron en smaakte oud. Erg jammer voor zo’n mooie zaak!
