Great for gluten free!!! Very nice food!!!

First time in an Indonesian restaurant. We had a rice table where you get small portions of many dishes. Everything was tasty with exciting new flavors. Our waitress was super nice and very helpful, especially with our food allergy needs (gluten and nuts). Actually, all the dishes are gluten free, which made our Celiac girl very happy. The place itself is wide and beautifully decorated with traditional face masks and other authentic objects. A great culinary and cultural experience.

Taste ok, not so authentic....too pricy

Service was quite nice and quick. She immediately sat me down and gave me the option of the table in the back or by the window, even though it was just me. She also recommended a dish for me to try everything in one plate for 1 person. Dish was great enough, but I felt something was perhaps missing (a bit of spice?). This is the first time I had indonesian, however.

Awww! First time trying Indonesian food and it was soooooo good! So, I’m staying at a hotel near by and found this place and decided to give it a try. At the moment I came, something was happening with the credit card machine so they were only taking cash, and I literally only had 27 euros on me. Mailing was kind enough to recommend a dish and give me a bottle of water for free. I didn’t know what to expect of the food but when I tried it, my brain exploded. They just convinced me to add Indonesia to my trip! Will be back before leaving Amsterdam!

A good Indonesian spot is so hard to find but man, look no further: Dèsa should be your new go-to spot for authentic Indonesian dishes. The atmosphere is spot-on and the staff is the friendliest around. Can’t recommend it enough 🫶🏻

I was looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine and found it – the food was great and I would love to come back.

My wife and I had the two-person meal, which includes a variety of meats and vegetables. It was the best meal we had in our three weeks in Europe.

Amazing Indonesian food, 💯 authentic. Highly recommend!!! Great place also to try many different kind of Indonesian dishes… you can order a menu consisting of many dishes (see photo, for 3 ppl) which is served with rice and fried rice.

Feels like home! We came back again after 5 years and food still taste the same. Try the soto betawi is really really good. The owner Tante Meiling was really kind person , we will definitely come back again.

Special Dishes, Rijsttafel, having everything

The food and service were amazing! The prices were great for the amount of food and Meling and her staff were very inviting and attentive!

The food was there quickly. That was the only positive. Satay? Just pieces of chicken in satay sauce. Special sambal, almost only oil, half cold nasi goreng…. I would not recommend this rice table. There are better Indian and Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam.

A lot of people recommended Desa to us for servint great Indonesian food. So we had to try and were not disappointed. We ordered the Rijstafel (samples of some popular Indonesian dishes like rendang, ayam bakar and other meat and vegetarian dishes). It was honestly the best indonesian restaurant food that we ever had outside Indonesia. The staff is lovely and helpful as well. It's just a few meters from De Pijp metro stop, so easy reachable. We'd definitely come here again when in Amsterdam!

Fantastic restaurant to taste Indonesian food. A bit on the expensive side but food is excellent, portions are perfect and service is great.

I came here from a YouTube video recommendation, excited to try the Beef Rendang. My very first time trying Indonesian cuisine. They sat me at a table at the back across from the bar - the table had no table cloth. Other tables had table cloths. Even though I felt the service left alot to be desired, it seemed that other patrons enjoyed their food, most people were having the Rice Table. I opted for the nusantara platter - beef rendang, a chicken dish and green beans with rice. The meal lacked flavor in my opinion luckily they had sambal & it helped improve the flavor. Overall i probably wouldnt return to this restaurant. Beautiful decor though!

Not a good experience. We asked for a vegetarian meal with some meat to try. They brought a meal with almost any vegetarian food. The food was cold and very expensive.

had a satisfying authentic Indonesian meal! our favourites were the sate ayam, gado gado and tempe goreng! it was a great choice to get the table set - we got to try so many dishes at one go! we were met with a warm welcome from Tante Meiling ☺️ would love to come back one day!

I was a bit surprised to find an Indonesian restaurant with delicious food here, somehow the chef was able to find the ingredients and cook them very well. The menu is very Muslim friendly.

I would give 3.5 star if possible. We got the rice table feast for four people. All the dishes had great flavour with the exception of the soy beef, that was very average and beef is slightly dry (-0.5 star) Beef rendang, satay chicken and fried rice was excellent! The only issue I had with the meal is the portion size especially considering the meal was 28 euro per person(-1 star). The attached picture is the food served for four people. Glasses and spoons in the picture gives you a good idea of the size of the dishes. We had two elderly almost 80 and a girl with the appetite of a rabbit so the food was sufficient. If you had four normal people, you would likely need to order double the order to have enough food.

Good authentic Indonesian food and great service! We got the rice table for a great price. The rendang and nasi goreng are very good! It really tastes like home👍

As an indonesian, I think the food can be improved as the meats should be softer just how in Indonesia it is supposed to be. The quantity should also be added more for the price, the price is a bit too expensive for the quantity provided. The service is great. It is a family restaurant where the family members do the works, mother cooks, daughter cleaning, father serves the food. The daughter is very kind and welcoming. The location is not far from metro station and tram stop. And there were many customers. Overall experience is still a 5 stars and we will surely come back again and again.

We waited a long time, couldn't order everything because one of the waiters was probably too lazy or whatever... and then the portion just wasn't big enough. But it was delicious.

The Rijsttafel was very good. We had two, one vegetarian and one with meat. Everything came out quickly, and tasted great. The sambal was good, but didn't quite bring the heat like I wanted it to. This restaurant is nice and spacious, so you get a little bit more room to yourself than some other restaurants in the city. This is both good and bad, depending on what kind of vibe you're going for. The service was fast and without fuss, which I quite enjoyed.

We ordered a variety/ tasting menu. It came lukewarm - maybe that’s why there are rechauds on the table. Meat in the beef dishes were dry and hard. Fried rice tasted off. I would not recommend.

The food is always delicious. This time I had to wait a little longer which I didn't mind at all because the food is worth the wait. For the wait I got a nice piece of cake and a drink which I thought was super nice. Lovely people.👌

We visited Amsterdam for the first time as a family. My father is the only American-born child of a Dutch-Indonesian family, so we wanted to find an authentic Indonesian place to eat. We sat down to a Rijstaffel meal here, and it was glorious. Our host was from Jakarta and took the time to explain everything to us. The food was delicious (the Rendang and Satay were great). The only criticism was that we had 4 adults and 3 kids, so we were hoping the portions would have been a bit larger since the price is per-person. Overall, highly recommend.

I recommend this restaurant. The employees are friendly. Food tastes good (I'm Indonesian so I dare to say this tastes really good). The two of me eat but I can't finish. Plenty of portion provided. I came there during Ramadhan and they also give us free takjil (dessert). Super

We ordered the set menu for two people. The food is good with a nice variety of meats, salads and pickles. The service is friendly and efficient (with your dishes arriving by cart). The prices for both food and wine were very reasonable.

Great family run resturant with authentic Indonesian food! As you walk to the toilet you can tell its run by a family and they care about the food and their customers. The food was amazing, we got the set menu deal between 2 people! Tasted great and very good price by big city standards

we make Reservations around 06:30 in weekdays and its not to crowded. The food its soo good, tastes like back to Indonesia. if u come with 2 people Recommend the Rijsttafel! top tier. and dont forget the „Teh Botol“ for the drink. For dessert we chose the Pandan ice cream and its soo Pandan love it. The Service wass soo nicee Thanks for warm Service. Atsmosphere. if u been too Indonesia or you guys Indo gang u will feels like home with Sabilulungan type of music. Even my Bule Boyfriend approved 🫶🏽

The young lady who served us had an attitude and rushed us out by giving us the bill without prompt. The food was lukewarm and not memorable.

Food was tasty, but there was far too little. We had a rice table for 3 people and received 1 dish of rice. And the rest of the different meat and chicken was tasty but also little. I don't know if I'll go again.

We arrive here a little earlier than 5pm which was their opening time and the owner kindly let us in earlier since it was winter. We got the set menu for 3 people which tasted really good but for the price we paid, the serving was too little for us. Although, we really enjoyed the food since it was delicious. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcome. It was a great meal nonetheless.

The best meal we had on our trip through Belgium and The Netherlands. We did the vegetarian tasting menu and could not recommend it more. We ate every last bit and enjoyed every bite.

Had Dinner here on Christmas Day (evening). Excellent welcome, excellent service and excellent food. Nothing to fault and hope to be able to visit again when next in Amsterdam.

total rip off. don't go there. rjistafel is extremely overpriced if you order it for 2 persons (ca. 50€, very small portions). if you order rjistafel for 4 persons, you pay over 100€ for it - but get the same amount as 2 people for 50€! it's a calculated rip off that will leave you hungry.

As an Indonesian living in Japan, I can tell you that the Indonesian food I ate in Amsterdam was even better than the one in Tokyo! The owner was also very kind and the food was all delicious. I would definitely like to visit again soon.

Outstanding food. Gado gado was delicious. Lovely staff, relaxed atmosphere with pictures of the owner’s family over the walls. They brought me free dessert called cendol, very sweet and delicious! Will come back when I’m in next in Amsterdam.

We stumbled upon this place when visiting Amsterdam. We know Amsterdam has some real Indonesian cuisines to offer. But this place completely exceeded our expectations. The food is absolutely delicious. The service is on point….We ordered the Desa Ricetable set dish shown in picture. The spicy dishes are not for faint of hearts.....

Poor vegetarian Ramas and mediocre regular Ramas. No refinement and little taste. This is not an example of what Indonesian cuisine can taste like...therefore expensive in terms of price and quality. Staff very nice.

Not recommended! Small portions and high prices. A bottle of water €7.90! Exaggerate. But also the Dish taken which is equivalent to a mix for one person €23.90 seems really much for a place that offers nothing as an experience. The waitress was kind but too hasty to even think about what I had eaten, she had already cleared the plate with the two cutlery and the miserable handkerchief... absurd. Never again!

Delicious food, a friendly Indonesian owner, good location very close to Metro De Pijp. The restaurant was busy when we came (it’s on Sunday evening), so I recommend to make a reservation before coming in. Highly recommended!

It was an amazing experience. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were kindly seated. We ordered the set meal where we could try different dishes, and it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was filled with so much flavour and texture. This is definitely a must try when you are visiting Amsterdam.

This was the best restaurant meal in a long time! I had the (meat) rice platter, all 3 dishes were exceptionally good. Very different, spicy, every bite a devotional one Enjoyment! My wife and daughter had the vegetarian rice platter. It couldn't have been quite as exciting.

Delicious! Always Indo in The Hague, this one just as good (even better)! Fast and great service from Meling. But we were also allowed to dine for a long time with the best ice cream (ask here). All in all; highly recommended!

Came here for dinner as we were looking to try Indonesian cuisine here in the Netherlands. The woman who greeted and served us was very lovely and told us a little bit about the dishes. Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious and nothing I’ve ever had before. It makes me excited to try other Indonesian foods! I would 100% recommend this place for the service and the food.

Wow, what a night. The most amazing selection of food in one meal. The staff are brilliant and take all the awkward decision making away by pointing you to their popular tasting menu, where every dish is delicious. If you’re staying in town it’s a tram ride out, but well worth it.

Family owned and operated Indonesian food and drink! A unique experience you cannot miss. The food is flavorful, fresh, and made with love. Very sweet family, you feel very much at home. I enjoyed my meal a Rijsttafel or Rice Table featuring multiple small dishes giving a kaleidoscope of colors and flavors. 2 beef, 4 chicken, 2 veggies, sides of picked vegetables and in sure I'm forgetting a side. My wife and I ate every bite of everything! With a nice rose wine and beer it was the perfect meal. Easy to get to by metro or tram from centraal station.

Very friendly staff and good food, we had a typical rijsttafel as it was our first time and everything was delicious with a sweet coconut water. Totally worth it!

Really enjoyed having dinner here. Both in terms of food, interior, even atmosphere. We even had a chat with the next table. The ones we thought were Indo and Dutch, turned out to be from the US and the brown ones from Hawaii! For a restaurant with location so premium I had always been skeptical with Desa until I tried it myself. It was indeed authentic Indonesian. They did not compromised the taste by just the sake of having premium location. Perfect for small or big groups since the restaurant is also super huge. I love the interior design! Tried the rice table for two! Would come again!

What a great choice for Dinner in Amsterdam! The food was delicious and service was excellent. Mei Ling was an excellent host and provided us with a friendly, homely environment.

The service is efficient. You should remember to book. Water is only sold in bottles at a price of around 8 euros, no carafe of water but that doesn't hurt anything. The wine is not expensive at all. The rijstaffel is very good.
