A really great café, super friendly staff, very good selection of drinks and food.

Just bought beer. Nice people, tastings. Sat outside, nice!

Super friendly service, delicious vegan dumpling sandwiches, and plenty of water! The terrace is great for sitting on. Dogs were welcome. But there were cats inside! Not a problem for my dog, since we have a cat at home. But other dog owners should be aware, hehe!

A quaint pub, somewhat drafty as all the doors were open, tradesmen were working simultaneously, and deliveries were constantly being made. The outdoor seating area was busy, but the breakfast selection was limited.

Beef croquette with pickle and a lovely Sago Palm Negre .. a perfect way to finish our stay in Amsterdam

Lovely view in a cosy ambiente. The staff was super sweet and we could even stay until the rain stopped. I recommand the apple pie and coffee. My husband had the club sandwich which was great.

It was a very nice experience, I enjoy it very much, the aperol spritz and the bitterbal were divine.

The food is good, the service is great, and eating and drinking in a historic building with a canal view, especially on a Saturday, is wonderful. I highly recommend it.

update on Hendriks review on 26.05.2026: Unfortunately the lies keep adding. We ordered a large draft beer. Not a special pint and we were charged 11€. It was 0,5l so no large but normal. That is a fact. You can find it on the reciept attached. Others please be careful...

The Terrace used for a coffee stop on the road bike ride. Nice spot close to Central Station. It's a shame the apple pie is always so cold. You could warm it up briefly in the microwave before serving.

The staff is friendly and nice. Like a family. But this place is a total ripoff. The lunch menu has mostly sandwidches. They tasted good, but seems like they were made multiple hours ago or in the morning. They were dry and cold. In the menu a tap beer costs 5€ something. While ordering the waitress asks if you want a small or big beer. The “big one” is just 0,5l and costs a ridiculous 11€!!! Sorry but a total scam. Be careful.

I was here for the third time. The first two times I was only there for drinks, but this time I was there for dinner as well. That was great; we all four thought so. Besides that, it's just a nice place; it's lovely to still be able to speak Dutch in the city center. I will definitely go there again when I'm back in Amsterdam. Top notch.

I was equally impressed with the quality of the meal; everything was flavorful, fresh, and clearly prepared with high-quality ingredients, offering great value for the price point. Regarding the service, the staff was polite and the overall experience was positive, though it was a bit more relaxed and slower than expected during peak hours. However, the incredible setting and the tasty menu more than made up for it. It is a brilliant place to grab a bite or a drink while enjoying the unique surroundings. I’ll definitely be coming back to enjoy that lovely ambiance again soon!

Beautiful Amsterdam restaurant and hotel

We had dinner at Kobalt with 3 people on March 26. Our main course was veal. In terms of quality, nothing special, but in terms of quantity, scandalously small, at a normally expensive price. Absolutely not recommended.

Great place, informal and very good. Very light on corner, wall to wall windows. Great sandwiches and wine, lovely staff.

I have drunk so much coffee in Amsterdam, but nowhere as good as this nice terrace, top staff and fast service, and all that for a good price too.

I would not recommend this. The service was not friendly. We also had to wait a very long time before they finally came to take our order. We were seated next to a room where they took cleared plates; there was a lot of noise coming from the clatter of plates and cutlery. The food wasn't really tasty either. Soggy sandwiches. Not good value for money. It is nicely decorated, but I couldn't enjoy much of that.

Lovely people and a delicious lunch. I walked in on Wednesday morning and was greeted warmly. They immediately asked if I could have a coffee. Great! A typical cozy Amsterdam café where they cater to your needs.

We ordered a Flat White and a Cappuccino; the taste was okay, not the best. I don’t think I will return soon.

Good food, drinks, service and atmosphere

Such a charm. Covienently located near public transit station, at the corner of the block off a Canal. This cozy, charming, friendly eatery offers good food.

The best breakfast I could have had this morning. The young woman who served us was very friendly. Highly recommended!

This cozy restaurant/bar had super nice waitresses who had great drink & food suggestions. Service was quick and the food was hot & delicious! The tables fill quickly, so you might want to see if you can make reservations.

A very cozy place with smiling and welcoming staff, very pleasant. A very friendly atmosphere. The wait for food isn't long unless you specify that you're there to eat as well as have a drink, because yes, my little French tourists who love to complain, if you don't say so, they won't come and ask you what you want to eat! I recommend it.

Ribs were completely burnt. At least 1mm of carbon on the outside and dry for the most part inside. Told me that this is just the sauce that has been crisped. I'm familiar with flame-grilled meat. This wasn't that. Waiter said he would try to do something with the price but was overruled by the manager, because this is how they do it. So if you want ribs, don't go here.

A lovely discovery with fast service and friendly, helpful waitresses 🙂 I highly recommend it, and all at reasonable prices.

The food was very good, but I felt like a foreign tourist! Two main courses and two beers for €72!!! The side dishes were charged extra and were rather mediocre.

We celebrated day two of our wedding at Cafe Kobalt and the team made sure it was a truly special day. Rosanne, Jesse and the team are wonderful.

Feest l, what a great place with super nice people, really enjoyed it last Friday, November 7th. Very good wines, excellent service. We will be back soon and remain fans. A few months ago: A truly veeeery old, typical Amsterdam brown café, so warm and cozy. Once you’ve been there, you keep going back. And a fantastic wine list, also available by the glass. Rarely good wine for a café. Also very suitable for a nice date or job interview.

Kind staff, great food, awesome building and atmosphere. Went twice during my time in Amsterdam. Recommend the burger, avocado smash, and both croques. Reasonably price compared to a lot in the area—and some good variety of beer on tap. Highly recommend as a brunch/lunch spot.

Nice place, great atmosphere, and a lovely classic interior. Had a bad experience with the staff, who put themselves much more first than the customers. Hence the 2 stars.

Cozy place, very tasty food, authentic place, a bit noisy though

My family stopped in for a drink and snack. The local on tap beer was very good and the food was hot and fresh. We had the mixed plate of local Amsterdam appetizers which was great for 4 people. The only thing that lost stars was the server. She never smiled once, was less than happy about us being there and not very attentive. She did not make us feel any appreciation as a valuable and paying customer. Too bad really.

Beef burger and philly cheese steak sandwich were so delicious, one of the best I ever had! Even better than the ones I had eaten in the US. Service was good and quick. Highly recommend this place, location is walking distance from Centraal station.

Disappointing service, decent drinks Stopped in with my two young adult kids for an evening drink on the way back to our hotel. A tall blonde server came to our table. When I asked for recommendations, he said they “weren’t really a cocktail bar” and didn’t even have a shaker—so, not much to suggest. (Might be time to update the Google description.) My son asked for Amaretto, and the server flatly said they didn’t have it. I ordered an Old Fashioned and asked for a few minutes so my kids could decide. The server left and never returned. Eventually, the bartender came over—and sure enough, I could see a bottle of Amaretto sitting right on the shelf behind him. So we ordered that and my Old Fashioned. My daughter, tired of waiting, skipped ordering altogether. To be fair, my drink was good, the vibe was lively, and I enjoyed the country music playing. The bartender was decent, but the first server was dismissive and rude despite putting on a “nice” front. Not the worst bar, but definitely not welcoming, kind of like all of Amsterdam.

Very slow service and dirty tables and cutlery.

I recommend the Kobalt Craft beer, excellent, sweet and fragrant.

We ordered a large snack platter for €37, but we received a small one with only a few bitterballen (bitterballen) and cheese sticks, a little cheese, a few slices of sausage, some nachos, nuts, and pickles. It was very meager and not worth it. Very disappointed for the price.

The €37 snack platter didn't even include six bitterballen (meatballs). The pickles and nuts were also very sparse.

Don’t go. Slow Sunday afternoon… waitress took 15 mins to realise we’d sat down. Only came over because she was putting ashtrays out on the table. Took our order with barely speaking. Didn’t pick up the leftovers on the table from previous customers. Got the impression the waitress wanted to be anywhere but here working. It’s a mistake to come here

Señora era encantadora y absolutamente rechazado el pago, que fue muy amable de su parte. Gracias de nuevo por eso.

Rekommenderas inte! Nonchalant personal. Usel service. Från beställning till servering tog det mer än en timme. När maten kom var delar av beställningen fel och inkomplett. Burgarna var dock goda.

The location is very nice but the service is very slow. Since we had a plane, we wanted to eat something quickly and ordered a Club sandwich, but it didn't arrive in 45 minutes.

Went here on Sunday for a second time - the Friday before was an excellent evening and I would give 5 stars for everything. But 2 days later how very different.. The young woman serving could not have been more disinterested in working . After informing her of our booking she went on to serve another customer, leaving us standing . When she eventually came to our table she didn’t ask for a drink order , didn’t know the menu (she didn’t know what soup of the day was and wandered off to ask someone ). I asked if the ribs came with fries , she said no, so ordered a side dish - the meal came with fries , which were lukewarm warm . We waited ages for the main course and noticed other customers got food before us though arrived later - she hadn’t put it through to the kitchen . Have very mixed thoughts about returning here . As I said Friday was a completely different experience .

Ontzettende slechte Croque Madame. Kurkdroog, volledig doorbakken ei en slecht brood. Saus was ook helemaal ingedroogd. Bediening was zeer vriendelijk, vandaar 1 ster.

A pretty cafe with a view of a small canal and Central Station. Really friendly and the food is good. I ordered a beer and a Bitterballen. The staff gave us a warm welcome and recommended a table on the terrace, saying the high chairs would be uncomfortable. The pleasant reception, delicious food, and local beer became my best memories from Amsterdam. Thank you~

My son (10 years old) had a hot chocolate and whipped cream. Forty minutes later he vomited and the hot chocolate and cream or the rest came back out. He was fine again a short time later. He hadn't eaten or drunk anything beforehand.

Café Kobalt zit aan het begin van 't Singel in een monumentaal 17de eeuws pakhuis. Gezellig en sfeervol interieur. Leuke bediening. In de herfst en winter is er live muziek. Zo ook op de zondagmiddag dat ik er was. Gezellige drukte, ik kreeg de indruk dat hier voornamelijk vaste gasten komen. Huiskat Kajuit doet al die drukte niet veel, die ligt er gewoon stoïcijns bij. Aanrader hoor, deze gezellige kroeg met ongedwongen sfeer.

Ik had een tafel online gereserveerd, maar bij binnenkomst in het druk bezette café bleek er geen tafel gereserveerd te zijn voor mij. Het eten liet lang op zich wachten en was uiteindelijk koud. Kennelijk was de ongeïnteresseerde en onvriendelijke serveerster vergeten om het uit te serveren. Het café ziet er leuk uit, het pand is prachtig, maar oh, oh, oh, die slechte bediening is een ramp. Als je klanten haat, waarom ga je dan in een café werken?
