A very cozy place with a warm atmosphere. It’s a pleasure to spend time here, and the food is truly delicious. I definitely want to come back again.

I've been there couple times to study, and I have to say that it's really good. Toasties are solid, sweets and pastries are good and coffee is also good. Above everything I really appreciated the staff, the man (i think he was the owner or manager) was reeeally fun and talkative, and the waitresses are also really sweet.

"Cozy café where even my laptop felt welcome" If you're looking for a café where you can treat both your friends and your inner homebody, you've come to the right place. It's cozy enough to accidentally inhale someone's cappuccino, but in a cozy way. The service is so friendly I wonder if they're secretly adopting me. There's a game cabinet where Jenga suddenly becomes more exciting thanks to the small tables, and the seating areas invite longer conversations than you'd want to have with your in-laws. In the summer, there's a terrace so lovely I almost forgot I actually had to work. And yes—you can work on your laptop here, but be warned: there's a good chance you'll get distracted by the atmosphere or a game of Catan. Locals dominate the area, but thankfully they're friendly and don't bite. In short: a top-notch café. Only one star off because I still don't know how to get away with ordering a brownie without feeling guilty.

Must try the Hot Chocolate. Also Penne All’Arrabbiata was fantastic.

Terrible service, took way too long, didn't arrive at the same time, and let other tables go first. The food and drinks were okay, but nothing special.

September 2025, Cappuccino a little weak (in coffee taste) to my liking. But a real nice place to be, very home feel like. Bigger from inside than you expect (when for first time there). Nice and swift and friendly service. Lot's of locals.

Looks like it’s recently been renovated and the new aesthetic is so lovely! I’ve now been here multiple times for a nice quiet coffee. A great place to sit and work too. Highly recommend.

A lovely place just minutes from the station but so much quieter. Very friendly staff, good selection of herbal teas, and we both had lovely smoked mackerel open sandwiches and pear crumble tart. Incredibly friendly service too. Highly recommend!

Dir Café has improved by 300% since introducing a new menu three weeks ago! Absolutely delicious appetizers (we had the two vegetarian options, the fish soup, and the lobster)—one better than the last 👌 In addition, there's a homemade terrine and five main courses. If they're as good as the appetizers, you could spend a very good week here! The wine list has also improved enormously, with a fantastic Tourraine and a Rosé that's a bit underwhelming 👍 Furthermore, the service is incredibly warm and the prices are very reasonable (and of course, the fantastic, sun-drenched view of Zoutkeetsplein and the two canals 😎 So: highly recommended, and no comparison with the past 16 years (that's how long I've been coming here) 😉

Lovely cafe/restaurant in a beautiful part of Amsterdam. A beautiful, spacious terrace with both sun and shade. The food is delicious, the service superb. The location is top. Lovely view of the neighbourhood with a square, some local traffic and in a neighbourhood that is still left left or right by tourists.

During the Pentecost weekend we had lunch with a large group of friends at Mads. And we enjoyed the nice atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious coffee and various meals. A cozy place, where you can also sit if you just want to drink a cup of coffee and read a newspaper. Worth repeating!

Great food, amazing location. It's in Europe so service is what it is. You can't compare service in the US to that in Europe, most likely due to the fact that no one tips in Europe and our US wait staffs work hard for tips.

Food is so lala and very very VERY expensive!

On a beautiful Friday we had a nice drink on the terrace and then had a delicious dinner inside. Dinner menu has a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian per course. So something for everyone.

Desde el momento en que caminaste se notaba que iba a ser una buena experiencia. El anfitrión te hizo sentir bienvenido. Favorite cafe in Amsterdam - the colors, the ambiance, the servers, all amazing.

Service is fine, nice people. You don't have to come here for coffee. Either the milk is burnt or the milk is cold. No one knows the difference between a cappuccino and a latte. Just something gets done. Really a shame. You are also not allowed to pay with cash here. I won't come here again.

Lunch! And you immediately see and taste that there is a real chef in the kitchen!! Well-prepared tasty lunch dishes without frills! They will soon also open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings. Then I can be found there more often!

What a wonderful place, got better after the renovation. They have an in-house baker who makes tasty croissants and pains chocolat and the pies (small tartelettes) are awesome.

Place has the same name, but was renovated recently and I did not like it. I ordered the chicken burger, and got a very tasteless piece of yesterday’s chicken, deep fried and drenched in tartar, with one piece of lettuce on top 😂 Tea got forgotten in the order but the staff played silly and tried to charge me anyway… My experience was bad, and that doesn’t necessarily have to be the same for everyone - but I advise getting food elsewhere.

Mads' just opened again, and had a Coffee with one of the best tartelettes I ever tasted.

I came to drink coffee and they brought it to me, everything seemed to be fine until I took a closer look at the cup.. I hope it wasn’t washed after someone or was dirty, but I hope that it just absorbed the brown color of the coffee

Stopped off here for a late lunch. Wonderful hospitality and nice food. I had the curried lentil soup which was divine, and a cheese, tomato & onion toastie. Hubby had the chicken burger - delicious. Was early in the season but sat outside in the sun and would definitely recommend if you're strolling around this part of town.

Food was good but portions quite small (lunch), service wasn't good, not terrible but made multiple mistakes with order, wasn't very attentive even though the place was empty as well. Fine to just sit down but don't expect much.

We can be found at Café Mads every Friday and it is always fun! The staff is super friendly, the service is top notch and the terrace is very nice (evening sun and heat lamps). Recommended: the fries are delicious!

I recommend everyone to give Cafe Mads and Neeraj a visit! I had several days of meetings at the cafe and everyone loved the food and the warm people who work there. We felt incredibly welcome the whole time and we will definitely come back soon :)

Atmospheric and nice place to sit down and have a drink and/or some food. It's located in a lovely and peaceful neighbourhood. Service is good, friendly staff. Even when they take some time to notice you they will apologize and make some conversation. I always like coming here. I'd recommend the kimchi/cheese tosti! It's decently priced and super tasty.

After a tiresome walk in the area with some friends, we found this place to have a drink and were served by a gentleman I think was the owner : SUPER FRIENDLY, funny and helpful, he suggested that we tried one of the cakes and damn till this hour I still think about it and regret I didn't order a second piece ! (It was some kind of chocolate cake that was very light and tasty) I recommend!!

Schönes Café mit lokalem Publikum. Service war sehr schnell und freundlich. Wir saßen in der Nachmittagssonne auf der Terrasse und haben das schöne Ambiente genossen. Es gibt eine kleine aber feine Speisenauswahl. Der Chicken Burger 🍔 hat sehr gut geschmeckt und wurde schnell zubereitet. Wir können das Mads weiterempfehlen und kommen gerne wieder.

Lovely place with a wonderful terrace. Great menu with imaginative choices. The Onion Bhaji burger was delicious, and the Caribbean Jerk Chicken wrap was enough to split for two. Highly recommended!

Love de Mads. Gezonde mix van yuppen, buurtbewoners en toeristen. Van alles wat. Terras heeft tot laat in de avond en binnen ouderwets gezellige sfeer. De kaart is simpel, maar doeltreffend. Kan de zoete aardappelfrites aanraden!

Wij gingen met onze familie van 14 personen voor een dagje nr Adam en begonnen met een lunch bij cafe Mads! Wat een geweldige keuze was dat! Het personeel verwelkomde ons heel hartelijk en heeft ons een superleuke middag bezorgd! Ze waren vrolijk, gezellig en hebben ons heel goed verzorgd. Het eten was erg lekker, en de locatie was goed, maar Neeraj en zijn collega waren de spreekwoordelijke 'kers op de taart!' Wij raden het zeer zeker aan bij iedereen! Dankjewel van ons en vooral ook namens opa en oma!
